All the usual tourist stuff, with the accompanying prices, they do a nice range of sausage and the very illusive white pudding, this is very hard to get in England.

We wished we had gone to the service station instead of having the soggy tasteless macaroni cheese and chips. Overpriced for what it was, the portions weren’t large but we didn’t want more. Generic condiments. We did like the shops but regretted eating there

We stopped off for lunch on the way down to England. I really like Gretna Green - the shops and surroundings have a unique, classy vibe - but the foodhall was massively disappointing. The staff were friendly enough but seemed overrun. The place generally lacked organisation, the decor is fading, while the food and coffee were mediocre at best. Sadly I don't think we'll eat here again. The standards need to be elevated to the rest of the place. By all means wander around and check out the shops, but find somewhere else to eat.

We visited the Foodhall at Gretna Green whilst on a one day visit to the town on a Monday morning in July. We had travelled to Gretna Green by train from Carlisle and the attractions here are a short walk from the station. The Foodhall is quite large and it is possible to get anything from a cup of tea to a reasonably priced meal here. The restaurant has both inside and outside seating and we managed to use both although it did get busy when there were coach parties visiting. We used the Foodhall twice during our visit, one to get a drink and a snack in the morning and later to get a hot meal prior to returning the station. Both times I thought that the staff were helpful and friendly and the food and drink of good quality.

If you are disabled and need toilet facilities avoid Gretna Food Hall like the plague. Disabled toilets shut. Staff didn't appear to know how to deal with a disabled customer who needed toilet facilities. Management could not be bothered to reply to email drawing their attention to the situation. There are plenty of disabled toilet facilities in the Gretna area that are not closed off.

Toilets were filthy, no servicing at all. We ate at burger King and KFC and did not once see anyone come to clean tables. Same with outside tables, covered in bird poo. I wouldn't be the first to say that the Foodhall and the gift shops are too expensive. £ 2.29 for a bottle of Irn Bru and £ 3.50 for a sandwich are extortionate, probably three times what you'd pay in a supermarket. Also for all I diidn't buy any of the souvenir things, £ 36 for a bottle of Gretna Green whisky and £ 6 for a smalll packet of souvenir shortbreads is typical. I'd advise tourists to avoid the Foodhall if they want to avoid being ripped off.

Anyway, was given paper cups for our coffee as apparantly there were no china mugs as they were waiting for a delivery (8 people in restaurant) Older lady said to make up for this she would fill our large paper cups up which she then did. However she just diluted the coffee which rendered it undrinkable. Bap was stale tasting and bacon and sausage were both stone cold. Disgusting. Don`t know when I have felt more ripped off. Realise that the coffee cup trick was just that the KP hadn`t arrived for work yet. If she could have given us paper plates she would have. Will NEVER use Welcome break again. Our first stop in Scotland. Just over the border from England, is Gretna Green. There just off the roadway sits the Foodhall. It is a complex of stores and shops which surround a square of grass and concrete where a Piper is found in full regalia, stiff in stature playing lonely tunes on the bagpipes. We had a snack in one of the restaurants, tasted scotch in several shops and attended a marriage re-enactment at he Blacksmith’s barn and observed a real marriage occurring there as well. Scotland, you see used to permit young people to marry at a far younger age than England, Because of Gretna Green’s location it became the “las Vegas” of Britain in days gone by. Great place to explore.

We called here to breakup a long journey home and stayed about 2 hrs. Picturesque, with lots to look at, from tourist tack to quality goods. Something for everyone. Divided into separate buildings, with some overlap of merchandise. Several food halls, cafe, very large hall with clothes and gifts. First impression was Edinburgh Woollen quality and prices, but also a section with more expensive clothes like cashmere and brands like Daks and quality tweeds. There was of course a section of single malts including a bottle of Glen Grant 1948 for £4600 in a glass case. A smaller building called Hamper & Home had some nice quality goods. We went into the cafe at 11.30am and found many of the potential hot foods counters weren't being used. Although two different soups were available. Whether this was because we were early, or more likely 'out of main tourist season' with it being October, I'm not sure.We ended up with a pack of 'salmon with a hint of lemon' sandwiches each and lattes. Total bill £12.40. The sandwiches were nice, plenty of salmon. but I couldn't taste any lemon. The seats in the bar/ cafe area were wooden and had no padding, so were very hard on the bum. Probably to discourage folk from sitting too long during busy times.Soon after we found the Wee Big Shop and if my memory serves me correctly, this sold take away hot drinks and a different make of sandwiches, which looked nice and cost less than the cafe prices. They also had lots of gifts at budget prices. It's worth calling at this attraction and allowing a couple of hours to look around.

Stopped here for something to eat - a food hall restaurant, sounded good. Left having not bought anything. I've no idea how much the food cost, it looked dreadful. I arrived about 3.30pm. Perhaps it's better if you are there earlier. The salad bar was half empty, several serving stations were empty, the cakes looked mass produced but it was the main courses on offer that made me walk out. They were all dried up, obviously cooked a good while earlier and some of it was unrecognisable as to what it was exactly. No idea what the service was like as there was only one woman I could see working there and she didn't say hello, just carried on cleaning. I was hungry and I'm not that fussy at all but this really was poor.

We stopped here at midday and we're disappointed in the selection of food. I decided to have a baked potato and was told that the person in front of me got the last one. It was midday and they ran out of a main food option. The food choices were regional fare and didn't appeal to me. I was disappointed with the selection.

Worth a look inside whilst you're here but the prices are extortionate! Didn't buy anything as I couldn't justify paying the prices that they charge.

Never been to Gretna and thought we would stop off on way up to Scotland. Very friendly staff, food was hit and nice. Would recommend.

Dog friendly and comfy. Hand pulled ales and dog treats available. Staff were friendly and accommodating, finding us a table despite being very busy.

The steak tasted boiled not fried and the onions were sparse and undercooked. This was not a good steak baguette. Nice service though in good surroundings.

Amazing location just to the side of the A75 near Castle Douglas. Perfect spot to take a breath, enjoy the view and also the good coffee and flapjack that they serve. A great little find.

Excellent service with you ordering everything from your table which is very convenient. Good choice of food although children’s menu could be better and there were no pizzas which dissapointed our youngest grandchild. We all enjoyed what we ordered and look forward to calling again soon.

It's always a pleasant surprise to find a pub with a good menu using local ingredients! We ate well, the service was friendly. The pub has a large garden. This must be one of the best pubs for miles in any direction! My wife left her sunglasses behind, but Tim, the landlord, was super-helpful, finding them and posting them on. We will definitely go there again.
