Full of character, and very friendly staff. Nostalgic experience of a good old british hotel stay. Thank you!

My husband and I had our wedding reception here 40 years ago. We have not been back since, until yesterday, to celebrate our Ruby Wedding Anniversary for afternoon tea with 13 family and friends. The sandwiches, scones and cakes - superbly made and very tasty and plenty of coffee and tea was also served. The staff were superb, friendly and attentive, but not in your face. In the evening my we had a fish and chip bar snack, cooked to perfection. I had booked us in for one a nights stay. The receptionist showed us to our room. I walked in but told her it wasn't the one I had booked. She checked at reception to find it was occupied. Checking her computer she gave us an upgraded room! She escorted us back upstairs, shock. WOW, she had given us the room with a four poster bed! I was totally blown away. It was wonderful. With lovely old fashioned portraits on the walls, old furniture that match the age of the manor, modern en suite bathroom with added mod cons. A truly delightful room. Breakfast was very good. Many cereals to choose from. Toast and preserves, nice juice selection, finishing off with a full cooked English breakfast. Coffee and tea. After getting our case from our room we made payment and thanked the staff for their hospitality. We cannot praise the staff enough for making our day extra special.

4 of us had afternoon cream tea on Mother's Day. Lovely setting and very friendly, attentive staff. The only slight criticism is perhaps more sandwiches/savouries and a little less of the cakes. Otherwise a very nice experience.

My two-night stay at the Manor was the worst hotel experience I’ve ever had. It began with the journey to my room, located in a distant part of the hotel, accessed via a confusing maze of corridors and steep steps. Despite indicating my age (76) during the online check-in, I was given a room that required a challenging climb. Upon arrival, I struggled to open the heavy door, and when it finally gave way, I was met with a step down into the room with no warning. I stumbled in the darkness, only able to navigate using my phone’s torch as the light switches didn’t work properly. The room was dim, dingy, and cold, with no central lighting and a faulty radiator supplemented by an electric heater. The room, labeled as a ‘Superior double,’ was anything but. It lacked style, warmth, and comfort. The furniture was outdated, the carpet dreadful, and the décor depressing. The centerpiece was a dark, empty hole where a fireplace once stood, adding to the uninviting atmosphere. The bathroom was purely functional, with a weak shower. Breakfast was equally disappointing. On the second morning, I tried Eggs Benedict, which consisted of tasteless ham on an un-toasted muffin with bland poached eggs. The fruit salad was basic. For this subpar breakfast, I was charged an extra £17 per day, totaling over £270 for two nights. Despite voicing my complaints, staff merely promised to pass them on, attributing issues to the building’s age. On checkout, I was informed I wouldn’t be charged for the breakfasts due to my feedback, but this was scant consolation. I was promised a follow-up call from the manager, which never happened. The overall complacency suggests my complaints will not be addressed. For the price, you can find far better service and standards elsewhere. Avoid this hotel.

Lovely setting with a slightly tired building with a very warm atmosphere. Lovely reception staff and Charlotte and Amelia went out of their way to give a friendly service in the lounge

I LOVE this place. The location is peaceful and ruggedly beautiful, and the room was very cosy; but the staff are the best! They were all so friendly and made me feel very comfortable 🥰

Visited for afternoon tea with friends and was not disappointed. Easy access from the M1 with plenty of parking. The building is a classic country house complete with a slightly faded entrance. We were shown to a comfortable lounge by welcoming staff. The food was well presented with an excellent array of cakes. They provided boxes to take the remains home. The pots of tea and coffee kept on coming at no extra charge. We will be returning.

Very small double room which was one of their standard double rooms. Bulky furniture which made the room smaller. Very hard to walk to the ensuite bathroom without bashing against a piece of furniture in the middle of the night. Very poor lighting in room Bed very uncomfortable. Curtains very dusty Bathroom old and could do with a bit of a touch up, nice touch with the bath robes and slippers. Breakfast was very nice but the tea was like dish water. I won’t be staying at this hotel again which is a shame because it looks luxurious and beautiful on the outside with lovely scenery.and certainly not worth the £170 + for one night

Staff were friendly and attentive. The location was lovely and the courtyard was a great place to have dinner. The food was solid, if not a little expensive. Drinks were quite expensive. The rooms were a little dated, could use some modernisation.

Fairly dated hotel. The room needs modernization and definitely a small fridge; cleanliness should be improved. The staff is truly professional and kind. Excellent breakfast. The dinner was good but too expensive. I confirm three stars

We spent one night at the hotel and can safely say it was best place we have stayed at mainly due to the welcome from the staff. From reception, servers, cleaners and cooks everyone made you feel so welcome and they all seemed to genuinely care about their work. The food for both our evening meal and breakfast were very tasty and of a high standard. The view from our room overlooking the grounds was beautiful. We would recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for a great location with excellent service.

We had a lovely nights stay here in an upgraded room with a four poster bed. The staff were incredibly friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing but its not cheap so try and get a full board package. There maybe some areas that need a bit of attention but that kind of adds to the charm. There are only 14 rooms so it's very intimate which is what we liked about it. Overall we had a great stay here.

What started as a bold adventure turned into frolicking fun and mirth ! For the food , it was amazing! Certainly filled me up ! There is one thing that puzzled me though, why just why are the prices so cheap ??? 🙄

Everything was fresh and delicious. Generous portions, we had the Adana kofte and vegetarian kebab. Even the rice was 10/10.

Following a great experience last year with friends, I decided to have my family birthday meal there. Both my kids ASD. We went early and the staff were amazing. No pressure on the kids. We moved tables due to my kids being under the heater ... not a problem. Explained allergies and they made sure we understood everything we could eat. My boys felt so relaxed that they tried new food. We weren't rushed and one of the most positive experiences. The boys have both asked to go back. The music was a good level and the inside looks great.
