Whilst the food is usually of decent quality , now they have started to take orders online the kitchen can not cope at all. After ordering my food online at 6.20pm and being to 60mins I called the restaurant to see if that was correct as didn’t want to wait that long and would go elsewhere. I was told 50mins. I arrived after 45 mins to find 15 people waiting for their food and the staff in complete chaos not knowing how to cope. The staff wanted payment for food when people came in but then had to wait up to an hour for their food. Anyone that ordered online realised that the could walk out without paying and gave up. Eventually I said just forget my order and was then promised it was being packaged up .. and It promptly turned up. If on a Saturday to are willing to wait 1.30 hrs - 2hours then fine … DO NOT PAY ATTENTION TO THEIR PROMISES OF FOOD IS NEARLY READY

The crispy cuck was really crispy on the outside and succulent inside. The plum sauce was too thick and looked like it had been left out and dried out a bit, far too thick, but tasted good. The Beef in black bean sauce had a good chili bite to it. The beef was succulent and there was plenty of it. I have had slightly more aromatic black bean sauce elsewhere in the past and preferred that. All in all an enjoyable meal and I will buy here again. So far this is the best I have found in St Albans. A solid four stars

We live locally and are regulars with Flame Light. They are the only Chinese takeaway which doesn’t have me drinking litres of water after the meal due to salt and MSG. The food is excellent and always quick - the Char Siu pork and roast ribs in bbq sauce are firm favourites. Highly recommend

I live in the southern part of St Albans where I have a large choice of Chinese take-aways. I've tried most of them, if not all. This is by far the best Chinese in the area. There's only one exception to the great food they offer, and that's the chicken & chips, typical English food. Somehow they just don't get the chicken right & to make it worse, they put the chips into the same tray as the chicken that has the gravy in & therefore you get very damp & soggy chips. Besides that, the chicken It's far too dry, just like it's been reheated many times. Apart from that, the rest of the items on the menu are just the best out of all the other offerings from other Chinese take aways.

We found this gem after trying most Chinese Takeaways in the area. Food is always freshly cooked and the service is very quick.

This take away place serves typical chinese dishes. Food is good, tasty and prepared within 10-15 minutes during the pick times. The service is good too. It is handy and has parking space in the front. This take away is very popular with local residents of Chiswell Green.

We used to go to Cheongs on Vesta ave but since it changed management the other year it’s not been as good for Chinese (still fab for fish & chips though next door). So we tried Flamelight on the advice of a friend in Chiswell Green and it was very nice! Much nicer than Cheongs. We picked up within 15 mins (Sunday early evening). They take cards too. Not greasy. Tender chicken. Great taste. We’ll definitely choose them again for our next takeaway.

I cannot fault the food in this establishment having had a variety of dishes over time. Duck dishes are especially good.

Oh dear what has happened to Flame Light? Cold food, burnt noodles, burnt shrimps, greasy rice, new staff who don't know the difference between Prawns and Shrimps. Used to be my favourite, not anymore. Lots of the recipes seem to have changed as so many now taste different or it could be just the cooking. Now leaves an after taste which isn't particularly pleasant. Doubtful I will use it again.

The worse Chinese meal we have ever had (having lived in Birmingham, Manchester, London and a wife that works in Hong Kong) Almost zero flavour (if you can get past the overpowering amount of sugar!) The kung Po beef was like a weird in orange juice and sugar combo. Total waste of £35, won't be going back, in fact I won’t be being Chinese take away food anywhere in St Albans anymore Actually threw the left overs away, this is a first for me!

I drive 20 minutes to collect my food from Flame Light. Always delicious, order always correct. Much better than my closer options.

Whilst staying at the Mecure Noke Hotel St Albans we decided that we fancied a Chinese takeaway. On looking on Trip Advisor wet came across the Flame Light which was only down the road and with the reviews sounding very positive we decided to try it. Thank-you to all who reviewed this takeaway, we weren't disappointed. The Flame Light on arrival looked lovely and clean and the aroma from when I opened the door to collect my order was amazing. We ordered over the phone and was told it would take between 10 to 15 minutes to prepare, which was exact. Thank-you to the staff and chefs as we thoroughly enjoyed the food. If we are back in the area we will definitely try it again.

The food is consistently good, always ready if you call ahead. Service is efficient and parking ok too. If I wanted a Chinese I would go anywhere else....

Some will say great and some I know will perhaps say not so good. The Flamelight is always good to say 7/10 and therefore a safe bet. Others can offer some great dishes but are inconsistent particularly on say a Saturday night, but you get a consistent standard here so we always go back. The chicken satay starter on skewers is excellent, as is the chicken chow mein but you need to go a couple of times to decide what you like as some dishes are not as good as the others. My apologies for not being clearer but after a few visits we have decided what we believe are the best dishes and we always get the same which suits us.

I use this takeaway when we don't feel like cooking for ourselves, and it is great very nice lady on the counter always get's the order correct first time, and the food is very very good indeed.

I love flamelight, their food is always on point - Full of flavour and best produce used. Its definitely the best one in St albans and Watford! Always friendly and chatty, the order leaving you enough time to run over the pub adn have a quick drink. The only thing that would make this better if is they had a delivery service however always more than happy to pick up!

Este es un gran llevar comida siempre es buena y listo muy rápidamente. Tienes suerte si tienes tiempo para una pinta en los tres martillos sobre la carretera antes de que está listo. Recomiendo los langostinos con chile y la sal. Tienen un menú brillante, con un número al lado de cada artículo, así que es muy fácil decirles lo que quieres.

Esto realmente es un fantástico para llevar que he estado utilizando durante más de 20 años y sólo creía de añadir mi crítica cuando vi su TripAdvisor cartel este fin de semana sea lo que sea lo que hemos tenido, siempre que hemos tenido ha sido muy fresca, calidad y buena en términos de cantidad. Sólo puedo estar de acuerdo con otras opiniones en que decía que el personal es siempre amable y servicial. Nunca hemos tenido una mala experiencia de su comida y hemos usado con frecuencia. Ojalá que sigan ofrecen sus servicios a este lado de la ciudad.

Luz de llama es mi comida para llevar chino normal y siempre preparan la mejor comida sin culpa. El personal es encantador y dispuestos a atender a sus peticiones.

visited again last weekend. food excellent as always. one tip....if you want food at peak time telephone your order. It gets very busy....not surprising with the food.....but if they say 30 mins from call they mean it.....or you could nip in the pub over the road while you are waiting....

Very tasty food although at peak times there might be quite a wait for food. Takeaway only, no delivery - which is a bit frustrating if you can't get out.

The sort of Chinese takeaway in an unremarkable row of shops a mile or so north of J21A on the M25 that it would be easy to ignore, but don't. Have been a regular customer for a number of years and keep coming back for more. Busy but efficient service of excellent food. Deep fried king prawns in chilli and salt (143) a particular favourite.

Have many take away meals but this takes a lot of beating..always visit on my trips to St. Albans....

We have used this takeaway ever since it opened. The food is always good and whenever the son comes home we have to have Chinese from there. He says it's the best and we couldn't agree more, fair price, good menu, good tasty food nothing bland about the meals we have had from there, lovely people, calendar at Christmas and if the order is big free prawn crackers. Yes on Saturday nights you have to wait a bit longer, but that is because a few order before going over the road to the pub, and then come out a bit later to pick the food up.

Saturday evening decided to drive to chiswell green for a Chinese take away,placed order and sat down.And waited( and waited,)many orders taken by phone,(still waiting)customers now collecting orders placed by phone(still waiting patiently)40 mins now passed.decided to ask what has happened to my order what name came the reply (no name was asked for on placing order just money) oh here it under counter.no apologies what so ever upon returning home food was cold And soggy .The worst service bar none.

First up, it's a Chinese take-away. So, a few standard evaluation parameters of TripAdvisor shouldn't count. The food is delicious and price fair. Run by a Chinese couple, the turnaround time for an order, depending on the volume ordered of course, is 15-20 minutes. The main evaluation criteria of a takeaway are dependability and consistency. Flame Light scores on both counts.

When they get the order right, this place is just about OK, it's nothing special, it's nothing nasty. Some of the other reviews say the food is bland, and I tend to agree, but hey, it's a take away!!!

We've just moved to Chiswell Green and thought we'd try our local Chinese. In essence don't bother there are several other Chinese restaurants in the local area that are much better. The food was very bland virtually tasteless even after copious amounts of salt, pepper and soy sauce. Positive: food was very quick maybe everyone else knows better! The Thai restaurant on Hatfield Rd is so much better. Give it a try.

We don't use the Flame Light very often, but when we do we are never disappointed. Only problem can be that it gets very busy so you might have to wait even if you have pre ordered (they really need a separate pre ordered desk). Staff are very friendly and helpful, food is excellent and it's good value.

We have been going here for years and never had a bad meal. It is a family operation and everyone is alway happy and friendly. Couldn't recommend it highly enough.

It's a take away, that's why the atmoshpere score is low. Great little take away. We have been using it for years, good food, quick service from this nice family run Chinese restaurant.
