Chinese Express in St Albans

First time order, the order was late by an hour, called restaurant and eventually got the order but should have been called to explain the delay.

Very nice food will order from there again

NGL, We would probably starve to death without you. Always good food. Honey ribs are glorious, Salt n Pepper chicken is life! Can smash a pork fried rice and pork chow mien any day of the week!

The best Chinese food I have honestly ever eaten. I travel the country for work and always have a Chinese takeaway, this is hands down, the nicest, old school food I've ever had. The king prawn fried rice was unbelievable, you will not be disappointed, enjoy.

Just ordered for the first time. Terrified I'm going to be ill from the amount of salt on ribs, not going to eat. Definitely won't be back. Service was far to fast everything just put in pots.

We always use Chinese express but this occasion there was definitely something wrong with the chicken balls -they tasted so wrong and when opened up chicken was lumpy and grey

Restaurant said order was delivered when it wasn’t. I called the restaurant asking that the driver call me. This took a further 15 minutes. Food arrived cold and tasteless. Avoid

While the food was delivered hot and on time, it was lacking flavour.

The chow mein and duck was missing from the order and the food was freezing cold driver was stood outside for ten minutes I usually order from here but will not order from here again!

We have been using Chinese Express for some time and you cannot fault the food nor the service. Always really good HOWEVER the prices have gone up so much lately. It’s actually quite unbelievable how much they now charge for their dishes. After many many years we are no longer going to be using them which is a shame. Ribs are now almost at £9, and rice more than £5! There is no way these price rises are justified. Plenty more Chinese take aways in St Albans for a lot less and it is there that we will now go. Local Facebook groups are saying the same thing…. Just for a little greedy especially in these tough times.

The quality of food is very good, nowhere else compares to the satay chicken or spare ribs from here for me, you actually get meat on the spare ribs here 😋 staff are lovely, everything I've ever ordered from here has been lovely, ive seen some bad reviews on here and im genuinely shocked, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

MEAL WAS TASTELESS a WASTE OF MONEY how is this place open!! Chicken balls microwaved and very soft. I live 2 mins from the place. Sweet and sour sauce was sour no colour to it. And only half full. Very disappointed, feel like I have wasted my money. Even the children disliked it. Delivery driver ‘apparently’ didn’t have enough change. Considering he handles money. So he can smartly keep a tip. falsely paying for a service. I had to bin the food over £50 worth My advice honestly try another place. Or make your own as you will not get that Chinese experience here. I wish I saw the reviews before I brought the food. They are very true. Looking at other sites this place has are clearly false. Why am I writing to warn the fellow customer. To help them never make the mistake I made…..I feel like I have been robbed..Smh….

Order hasn’t turned up and when you try to call the restaurant it takes you through to their answering machine. Do not order from here we’ve had too many bad experiences with them this being the worst one.

Worst chinese food ever! Never had such bad experience. These meets was in my hot and sour soup, I can’t even rate their chow mein. Everything ended in the bin. Hopefully I won’t be sick. Dreadful

I was really happy that it got here a bit earlier as we were really hungry, better early than late...food was really good, not the same pineapple rice I've had in Thailand but still really nice, I'll be ordering from them again, thank you.

For close to 15 years this has been our go-to Chinese takeaway, having sampled a range after moving to St Albans in 2006. I can’t vouch for a wide range of their dishes as we are creatures of habit in our selection, but what we get regularly (which includes capital spare ribs, prawn toast, pancake rolls, s n s chicken balls and occasions pancakes) is the best version of each of these I’ve tried anywhere. Furthermore, given we order about twice a month, they never get an order wrong (and there is scope for this as our kids do vary with their selections). They’re always very friendly as well as efficient.

After reading the reviews the food was very underwhelming. Duck was dry, no recognisable sweet & sour sauce, satay chicken sauce was strange, prawn balls needed to be cooked in fresh oil as really greasy and dark. Will be going back to Sam’s in London Colney.

On road parking, which is normally available. Good access to the shop. Excellent staff. They handled my need to remove one ingredient from the dish ordered, without an issue. It was fun watching my meal be cooked. And it was exactly how I wanted it. This is my go to Chinese takeaway.

Moved to the area 24 years ago and this is our only go to Chinese for a large or small takeaway. The food is constantly good, always tastes the same and lots of verity and choice. Never had a bad or wrong dish. I know you can book via various platforms but we always book direct and will collect or have delivered. By booking directly you pay the same or less and the takeaway does not lose out. 5* food 5* friendlyness 5* always clean fresh and hot. The negative nellies are wrong!!!!

I am very unhappy about the prices for this restaurant if you ring and order through restaurant u have to have atleast £18 worth of stuff to then be told I couldn't pay card when I have paid card with this place it for along as I have been getting food from here ( which is years) as I don't have cash I then go on just eat to then have to get £25!!!!!!! worth of stuff for one person ridiculous plus not only have to do pay £25 but the delivery charge of £3 onto for the same person to deliver. I'm really upset about this as I am a loyal customer and always order from here and now feel scammed something needs to change . If someone from store wants to contact me please feel free I would love to know how they feel this is fair to customers

The food has no taste the duck is completely dry. Literally few pieces of meat. Chicken chow mein tastes like pot noodles. Regret ordering from here.

Rule number 1 - NEVER cheat on your regular takeaway!! This was THE worse Chinese I've ever had. I asked for small sized spring rolls and made it VERY clear but when I got home, opened the bag and I saw 2 BIG vegetable spring rolls🤦‍♀️ And I also ordered a Singapore vermicelli noodles but it was bland!! In my experience Singapore vermicelli is well spiced and tasty but this was disappointing to say the least. Never again! I wouldn't recommend.

Very disappointed in the Singapore noodles hardly any meat and very bland no flavour and definitely no spice!!! Every mouthful I ate was filled with a very large hard onion slice! My chicken satay was very slimy The curry was okay but once again more onions then anything else

Used to be my favourite takeaway in St Albans but today my order was a huge disappointment… tasted like microwaved food, spring rolls were soft not crunchy, nearly tasteless rice & they forgot one of the things I ordered. Very overpriced too.

This place is an absolute gem of Chinese and Cantonese cuisine in the heart of St Albans. It also serves a fantastic range of vegan options which are truly incredible. I have only ever used this place since I have learned of it's existence.

Avoid. Greasy flavourless food. Burned the spring rolls but still sent out. Short grey hair in satay. Beef ordered but chicken received. I'd be embarrassed if this was my restaurant.

The food was, as usual, excellent. However we were shocked at how much the prices have risen recently. Food inflation is hitting everything and restaurants and take-aways will be badly hit, affecting jobs. It's not fair.
