Small Chinese takeaway, not that expensive and the taste is very nice.

I think I just picked up a Chinese from the1970 really don’t understand how these type of places are still in business serving this type of food ? I think one star for this place is being polite And finally can’t be sure if it was even a Chinese meal ?! Sorry but never again

First time we’ve been here for a takeaway. Best Sesame Prawn Toast we’ve had. Enjoyed a drink in the pub next door whilst we waited for the food to be prepared.

Great food Good quality lots of flavour Large portions they are not tight like some Chinese takeaway Quick service rang up and collected 10 mins later will definitely come back again when in the area 100% recommend 10/10 Thanks guys

Amazing old school flavours I’ve been searching for four years and I’ve finally found a winner in St Albans .amazing food great portion sizes good price and friendly staff.i smile every time i eat from the mayflower,I’d definitely recommend trying.

Great Chinese takeaway, I travel from Bushey to collect as much more reasonably priced than my local takeaway!

Used to be a good Chinese take away, I heard that recently there are new chefs also owners may have changed, the food is very salty so there is no way to tell if they taste good or have right ingredients, had to throw every thing from starter to the main dishes in the bin. They need a good chef or at least the chef need learn a tasty and healthy food

Always use this Chinese take away. We had family around on Saturday so ordered a meal for five of us. We ordered 3 different Chow Mein meals amongst other things. Theses were so salty that none of us could eat them. The other meals were fine. We felt really embarrassed that everyone left their meals. After paying £55 I was very annoyed. Will be a while before we use this take away again. Very disappointed.

Our fave Chinese, not the best ever but defo the best in the area! Sauces tasty, portion sizes good!

I gave 5 stars because I usually love the food from here one of my favourite Chinese restaurants however tonight it didn’t taste as good as usual the bbq sauce was overpoweringly salty and the curry didn’t really taste of much I’m not sure if I just couldn’t taste it due to the bbq sauce being so salty tonight still I give 5 stars because usually it’s really good so whatever chef is in tonight isn’t as good as the usual chef

Exceptional Chinese meal, nothing to criticise. It's an unassuming takeaway so a bit hard to rate its ambience.

I have had takeaways from Mayflower for year's. Even when I moved far away I would come back to buy my food. I now live closer again so I only order from here. Would definitely recommend .

Food was twenty five mins after they said it would be ready. Seaweed was soggy as was the crispy beef. Very dissapointed

This was not only the worst Chinese meal I have had it was the worst meal from any restaurant . The meal was cold and the food was so badly cooked and inedible due to the toughness of the meats. This was so supposed to be a Birthday treat given to me by my daughter it completely ruined my day. I will never use it again and advise others to avoid at all costs

It won't be the last. We ordered sweet and our chicken balls and chicken chow mein. It was amazing, the chicken balls were the best ever and the chow mein delicious. Will be back!

Marvellous little take-away at the bottom of the village. A tiny counter but big food. There's a piano you can play while you're waiting!

Hygiene rating 0 & cash only. So basically avoiding tax and needs shutting down for health and safety reasons. Not sure id ever go back knowing it has a zero, ZERO hygiene rating

Food ordered at 18:50,told to collect at 19:30, arrived to a shop and pavement full of people waiting for their orders. Finally left with my order at 20:15. If they had been honest about the wait time on ordering I would have felt less angry.

Just moved to the area and went purely as most conveniently located.... what a find! Best Chinese We've ever had! Had to go back as they forgot my curry sauce but couldn't be mad as the food was 5/5

Our order was correct, a few freebies thrown in. The food was freshly cooked and very tasty. Every dish was perfect... we will definitely be ordering from here again. I would recommend to anyone.

Best Chinese food I have eaten, outside China.

My elderly parents collected a £17 take a way last Saturday 5/6/2021. They said it was the worst Chinese they’ve ever had. Ribs were burnt special rice had cold chicken in it, sweet & sour chicken was disgusting - In fact the whole lot went straight in the bin. Looks like since all the good reviews in 2020 they have gone down Hill or perhaps changed hands - Avoid.

We have been having take aways from Mayflower for 15 years or more..... Its always AMAZING. The staff are very friendly and TBH I don't mind waiting as I know its cooked fresh. I have had my own restaurants in London and I know good fresh food - some of the reviews on here seem very suspect as they seem to be pushing people towards the competition (actually naming other restaurants in the review!!) Mayflower is the best most reliable Chinese take away I have ever seen and we always will suport them.

Good value delicious food. Generous helping. Friendly welcome. Asked for less oil which they did. Free prawn crackers were given. Recommend Singapore fried rice. Will use them again!

Perfect early morning stopover (not services) place on the M25 on a weekend before the joining the M1, though Mayflower Takeaway itself wasn't open till later. For cars btw, not trucks 😉

Not the best Chinese I have had from here. I have been ordering take aways from here for over 25 years and tonight’s meal has been extremely disappointing. The crispy duck was a huge disappointment.........burnt. My advice to the Mayflower is leave it whole and do not cut it up then cook it, it was inedible. The rest of the dishes were just as bad. Sorry guys, I will be going back to another take away from now in Chiswell green

Ordered food at 6.48 online said would be ready for 7.29pm still waiting outside at 8.30 joke !!!

Every time we come here the food is amazing! Always cooked on time , and hot when we pick it up :) the people in there are very friendly, and you get free prawn crackers with your meal. Prices are great, and I have tried out other chinese places but this is definitely the best!!! Especially the chow mein, egg fried rice, and vegetable mini pancake rolls 😁 10/10 recommend

Had a good chicken curry from here recently but took 45 minutes before ready for collection instead of the 20 we were told. No choice but to hang around and wait.

First time ordering from here, never again. Placed order on their website and it gave us a collection time. Arrived at scheduled time but still had to wait another 15 minutes for the order. Ribs were chewy and tough, chicken balls were over cooked inside chicken dry and tough, struggled to even cut them. Chicken & cashew nuts in yellow bean sauce, meat chewy. Basically everything we ordered had been over cooked and dry. Will use oriental in How Wood or Flamelight in Chiswell Green in future.

I have used the Mayflower for quite a number of years now, I can’t understand why there are so many negative reviews? Ok some times you do have to wait a bit for your order but the food is fresh and always good. Not sure if some people are expecting 5star from a small local restaurant but we have never been disappointed with the food. Well worth a visit.

Great food. Got my order wrong changed it without a quibble and a refund.

The food was bland and one of the staff was very snobbish and not very friendly and helpful at all.

I had crispy chicken with salt and chill which seemed like it had been undercooked and extremely dry with scraps of garlic and chilli, buried below the chicken as if it wasn’t cooked with and was mint supposed to be to help add some flavour. I then went into the sweet and sour chicken balls which were like tiny snooker balls (most Chinese takeaways have chunks of chicken)with a dull tasting sauce

Definitely the best Chinese in St Albans, all the other places "water" down their sweet and sour sauce with vinegar, this place does not.

This our local, we've tried others in the area Garston, Park Street and How Wood. Also come back to the Mayflower. Never had a problem. Nice and friendly too.

If I was giving this review a couple years ago, it’d be 5 star. But the popularity of Mayflower has sadly meant that there is a very long wait for food, and the service isn’t as attentive as it once was. Food quality remains ok.

The best Chinese food in Brickt Wood...

We decided to try this takeaway as our usual one was closed and had good reviews. Staff are very friendly. Food was ok but not amazing. Chicken was quite dry. Reasonably priced.

After reading some good reviews I thought I’d give this place a go but sadly wish I hadn’t. The sweet & sour chicken was ok but the rice tasted awful and smelt fishy, the chicken balls were over cooked so the chicken was all dry inside and the batter over done, the vegtables way too garlicy, even the prawn crackers tasted rubbish! So most of it ended up in the bin

Ordered on line (very easy to do), great food, ready on time, reasonably priced, good size portions, recommended!

Mayflower Chinese is great, some of the best in the area. The online booking system is good with full menu and ‘time ready’. Recommend special house rice. It’s a meal in itself

Great chinese, always busy! Food is great and not too grease which I like. You can park outside although it does get busy. They don't deliver which is good for my waist line.

Sí, ha sido la extraña cosa que falta en el orden pero vivimos cerca así que han podido regresar y conseguir lo faltante. Son muy atentos, así que si hay algo que quieras que no está en el menú y, a continuación, intentarán y hacer que si pueden. Altamente recomendado.

Fresh cooked my boys love this takeaway. Friendly service, food always hot and orders always correct.

Authentic, heart warming and brilliant food! Generous portion sizes and great value for money. Staff are genuine, friendly and polite. Food is made quickly and efficiently. Ingredients are fresh, flavours are vibrant, and the take away is clearly hygienic and well maintained, with certificates to support this. Wide ranging choice of menu (I'd highly recommend the Kung Po chicken, Crispy Aromatic Duck, Sweet and Sour Prawn Balls!).

Our local business needs your support, the mayflower supplies good quality food. A previous person said it was spicy, yes some is but only those marked with spicy symbol. If you like it hot..... Really tasty highly recommend.

Wonderful food , I have been there many times , the lady who serves us is very friendly . It's such a shame they don't delivery.

Me and my fiance was passing and wanted Chinese so thought we would try here we always have some food but was to spicy burnt our lips made my eyes water.too much chilli.ruined our dinner and crispy beef was not good

The only Chinese restaurant in Bricket Wood, but as the food is so good friends drive from Abbots Langley that has 3 restaurants to use ours.

Lovely little local Chinese, Sue is so friendly and chatty - food is great, ordering is quick (ask Sue any dish on the menu and she'll give you the number from the menu). Definitely the best Chinese I've ever had in the St. Albans / Watford area.

I've been visiting The Mayflower since it opened over 24yrs ago, the quality and taste of the food I have yet to find in my local area therefore when we decide on Chinese takeaway we undertake a 25 mile round trip to purchase from the Mayflower.

Consistent quality at a reasonable price. Very friendly counter staff make the pick up a pleasure. We've used 'Mayflower' for the 17 years we've lived in the village and never been disappointed.
