Passing through Ormskirk at lunchtime and saw Toby Carvery, pulled in and found the Fiveways. We both had the Carvery which was an excellent choice of Lamb, Turkey, Gammon or Beef. We both had Turkey and Beef the accompanying vegetables were excellent and even though stood on a hot plate were not dried up. The place is spotlessly clean the toilets smelt fresh and clean. One of the best Cavey's we have had., and the price was very reasonable @£15.48 for two

A couple came in with their two children. One of which was autistic and had their own little packet lunch... They where turned away stating not company policy to allow the child to eat their packed lunch whilst the rest of the family ate. Made worst by the fact their other child then started crying...Well done Toby Carvery

I'm afraid the Fiveways has become a quite dreadful restaurant. The Carvery is typical of a mass produced chain. The beef is quite appalling, pure fat, and bordering on the inedible. The pork isonly just better, a dreadful cut, and very very tough. And unfortunately it's all absolutely tasteless, veg, potatoes, etc, look good, but are bland at best, but the gravy is good and has a decent texture and taste. And there's no kids menu, so we have two children aged four and six having a carvery! Bizzare ! Two of our group had a chicken 'salad'. The chicken was ok, but the 'salad' was a joke. A great load of sad looking shredded lettuce, quartered cucumber and a quartered tomato. Now the good point - the waiting on staff are very very good! There's plenty of decent restaurants in Ormskirk, try one, or get a takeaway! Seriously!

Chef very friendly and smart in his uniform. Served plenty of meat from the choice offered. Potatoes, veg etc. Plentiful. Gravy and accompiments also in supply. Slight mix up with drinks but corrected immediately along with an apology. Considering how busy the restaurant was and the limited amiunt of staff working they were all professional, friendly and hard working. Did all they could to make you welcome. A thoroughly enjoyable meal. Well done and thank you.

We use to quite regularly go to The Fiveways prior to the Toby take over. This was our first time to eat since. The place was very quite, staff were attentive and knowledgeable. It was warm and clean inside.Apart from carvery very little choice on the main menu, good dessert options though. The only thoughts were that the carvery deck could have been tidier and the vegetables made to look as thought they hadn't been there all day. The meats were delicious though.

This is my second review of this toby carvery. I thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt after last times experience. On arrival we were greeted and we're about to be sat at the front of the restaurant when all of a sudden a smartly dressed waitress arrived (who I'm presuming is the manager) and said they have found a better table somewhere else, Thinking nothing of it we agreed to move and followed her. We sat down with our 2 children and realised straight away that the roof was severely leaking and dripping down next to our table. It was like a tap! Seriously it was much more than "just a leak"...I complained and they didn't even apologise! We were moved to a window seat that was much better but then it was another 10 minutes until the waitress returned to take drinks orders, "However" The waitor that was in was very helpful and took our food orders rapidly, he also got our drinks after we told him the waitress had simply failed to deliver them. The food was actually not bad this time, I'd of liked to of seen a few more greens to choose from if anything. We ordered desserts afterwards and they were spot on. Unfortunately i dont think any of us will return here after this.

No pork, half the veg had been out for hours and was cold, no beef gravy. Then we ordered puds. 20 mins later questioned the waitress who gave me a feeble excuse of loosing the slip??? What slip, Orders r made on the hand held computer. 10 mins more for 3 kids and 2adult desserts, disgusting.

Visiting friends in the area we decided to do the Toby, arrived about 8pm, to a virtually empty pub, just 6 other diners all placed in one area, we were seated in the same area (I presume to make it easier to clean). Quickly had our drinks order taken and delivered. Went to the food area, only 3 of the 4 advertised meats on. served quickly by the pleasant chef. The beef was quite fatty as was the gammon. The potatoes, veg etc, looked like they had been there for a good while, but actually tasted ok. One of our group had a sweet, which was served quickly and was enjoyed. I couldn't fault any of the staff, just a shame that the place was so quiet. Would we go back, probably but on a busier evening.

A few vegan choices on the menu and the chef cooked some seperate vegetables (not cooked jn butter like the ones on the carvery) so we could have these too. The carvery was actually better than before - meat was tender and flavoursome, a choice of four meats. Ordered a baguette with cheese as my daughter and I are. Vegetarians. We got a BAP toasted very dry with grated cheese ' waived' over the top of one side for some reason it came with roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, very strange if it had not been for the small amount of chutney we got it would have been too dry to eat. As an extra, we got soup. It came in a very small cup one third full which we were asked to pay £1.50p for. Although our disappointment with the sandwich was made clear, we did not let the size of the soup portion pass and had extra added. For £5.50 each, we did feel a bit ripped off with the portion. Will not recommend.

If you want a freshly prepared meal then don't go to a carvery , if you want a quick and full roast or a hot meat baguette full of hot meat quickly then this is your place, and better than some of the others around.

Where to start... The service was terrible. Me and my partner arrived for a carvery new years day, and to be frank were very disappointed. The meat carver was very rude - just looked at my partner when he asked a question and then replied with a very sarcastic question in return. When we sat down at our table, the air conditioning had been turned on and it was FREEZING. I wanted to stand next to the hot food for a little bit longer just to warm up!While we were choosing our veggies, me and my partner were going to go for the cheesy cauliflower - until that is I noticed a long hair on the serving spoon. The customers in front of us were waiting for stuffing for about 10 minutes, and then when it came out it looked barely edible - just slop in a bowl.We finally tucked into our food to be met with cold, bland stuffing, rock hard roasties, very gritty beef and undercooked parsnips. The mash was very lumpy, the gravy still had granules that had not dissolved and the only thing I quite liked about my meal was the turkey - which I ended up smothering in cranberry sauce and gravy anyway. My partner ordered a fizzy drink and was met with what tasted like soda water - it was infact meant to be Tango. I usually love my carveries but because of this I will not be visiting the Ormskirk toby carvery again. Took us 20 minutes to walk there too, which would have been fine if the food was bearable.

Came here for a group christmas outing. We'd booked our tables and sent our order in in advance, so no excuse for getting things wrong. All turned up at the same time and had to queue for drinks as there was just one guy serving at the bar. Waited quite a time for our first course which was served. Most were ok, but some grumbles about the prawn cocktails just being a glass full of cold prawns and lettuce. When most people had finished, the waitress appeared with tiny pots of thousand island dressing to go on the prawns, as they'd forgotten it. It was quite busy that evening and the staff were pretty pushed to serve everybody, so we had a wait whilst everyone finished and eventually the plates were cleared. Then a long wait whilst another party went up to the carvery. Eventually got to the carvery, and were served what we wanted, so don't know why we had to send in our choices earlier. Not overgenerous with their portions of meat, but you could mix and match if you felt like it. Help yourself to veg and gravies. On eating, the meats were pretty good, I didn't hear any complaints. The veg however were a bit dried out, especially the roast potatoes. The peas were tinned and hard, yuck. The rest were ok. Another long wait to be cleared before desserts arrived, which were as ordered, and very nice, no complaints. So all in all, a reasonable meal for a reasonable price. They could do with a few more staff at busy times.

I'm a good cook and judge places by comparing them by how I grade my own meals - allowing for the 'mass produced' factor. I've had great meals at 'Toby Inns' and I've had some that are absolutely dire - this is one of the better ones. The place wasn't very busy when we arrived, but by the time we left it was filling nicely, so it must be fairly popular, and to be honest I only saw clean plates - not heaps of uneaten stuff destined for the bins. Choice of 4 roast meats and a wide selection of vegetables, I have to agree with one adverse review - PLEASE cover the veg dishes in between groups of customers, it's more hygienic, keeps the contents hot and prevents drying out. Personally I like a hot plate (very hot in fact) but I recognise all the Health and Safety rules forbid it, that is why people complain about cold food - it isn't cold, it's the plates that immediately scupper the catering. The staff were extremely friendly and pleasant - we don't leave a gratuity when they aren't - and if we'd been staying in the area longer we would have eaten there again. Pity that the Toby near us at home doesn't even come close to being as good.

Meats... 3 out of 4 of them had fat running all the way through, the Yorkshire pudding was rock hard, stuffing balls cold n crunchy, veg (according to my partner) was not cooked properly (I didn't have any) mash potatoes bland, roast potatoes were Luke warm and the skin was chewy and the Gravy was like water! Garlic bread to start was nice thou :) It was safe to say after the second chance my Xmas dinner got cancelled as I'm not prepared for me or my family to pay out a lot of money for that! We come in July to celebrate my stepsons 18th and it was amazing food and service, Whatever u have done please change it back!!! this was the 'place to go' with ur family but we won't be back.

Previously regular diners at Fiveways we decided as part of Mums' 88th birthday celebration to visit the new Toby incarnation. Arriving at 7-30pm we found the car park to be pitch black and what was the old entrance now converted into a fire escape so ensuring that everyone has walk a greater distance to gain entry in total darkness! (whoever thought up that not so bright idea really needs to be punished in some way!) On entry it was difficult to see where any money has been spent as Toby seem to have pulled off the amazing trick of actually downgrading the decor and certainly not put any effort into upgrading the dining furniture as our worn out table and my broken chair will testify! That said, the staff were friendly and welcoming although they could have been more attentive during our time spent there. Having all decided to sample the carvery (not much choice if you don't) we made our way to the serving area. It could have been cleaner and some of the veg was crying out for added moisture but all in all the food was hot and wholesome and everyone enjoyed their meal. After some deliberation, members of our party decided to plump for pudding only to be told that the ice-cream machine was broken which wiped out 80% of the choice so it was decided not to bother and we promptly requested the bill. So, to summarize...if you are local and fancy some cheap wholesome grub and you're not fussy about your surroundings then it's worth a visit. If you live any great distance away, i really would't waste your petrol money because you are bound to find a far better alternative somewhere nearer to home.

I should learn from my mistakes but forever the optimist I gave the Toby another try last week, I wish I hadn't bothered! We had the carvery and to be fair the meats were ok but the veg was awful. I appreciate that in order to keep the food hot they must be under the heat lamps but why can they not have some sort of covers on them? Never ever again, and I mean it this time

We had all just been pumpkin picking and decided to go here for food before home. We got in the woman who asked us how many seats we wanted moaned cos they didn't have nowhere to put us at first when the pub was empty.total.of our food as a family was 120 pound. The food was horrible stuffing rock hard. Toasties rock hard and everything apart from the meat was cold. Yorkshires was stone cold. The only thing that we was happy with was the puddings which was excellent. But as a carvery prob one of the worst ones we've ever visited and will not be returning to. Shame as the place looks really nice. Maybe a staff attitude talk and fresher food being brought out this place could be rated 5 star

I was disappointed if I am honest, usually we go the TC in Ainsdale which is really nice, nice atmosphere and location. The Ormskirk one was nowhere the quality, the potatoes were like rubber, meat over salted, and the stuffing was burnt and dry from a new batch that came out as I was in the queue. I ordered a pint of Stella 4 but it looked more like apple juice, there was no life in the drink and when I took it back there was no apology or concern more of "ok what do you want instead" followed by a sigh. Will stick to our local place to eat I think

The food was lovely but the service was very poor, had to wait over half an hour to be seated at a booked table and the staff were very surly and unhelpful. They forgot our drinks order (despite the fact the place was empty after the table delay and food order) and we had to ask 3 times for the bill.

Venue very busy 6 p.m on Saturday evening but we were asked to wait in the bar area until a table be came available. After a short wait we were taken to our table and left no water/waitress approached us. After waiting quite a long time our order was taken but again waited extremely long time for starters despite speaking to waitress staff. Carvery was acceptable when we eventually got to eat. No alternative menu available so make sure prior to visiting that carvery is the only meal available.

Toby Carvery is usually pretty good so we thought we'd try the eat as much as you like breakfast. Won't be bothering again. Sausages only half cooked, as was bacon. Eggs overdone and sitting in luke warm grease/oil. Beans luke warm. No tomatoes. Potatoes were last night's left over roast potatoes chopped up. Coffee quite strong and again barely warm. Toast could be either not done enough or burnt, and no plates provided for it. Butter was on warm plate and starting to melt. The place was not overly busy but they kept running out of food and people were left waiting for it to be replenished. There did not seem to be anyone looking after it. And, then there was a bowl of Yorkshire puddings....with breakfast? Hmm..Not a good experience. Not up to Toby's usual standard. Won't be going back.

We dropped in on a Saturday evening, the place was heaving. We had to wait a short time in the bar, the bar staff were very polite and helpful. The food area had been very busy but was clean, we often use Toby Carvery's, the food was not quite a nice as our local Toby, the roast potatoes were soft and appeared to be breaking up in the bowl, the cauliflower was hard and the meat portion was quite stingy. That said the staff were very friendly and attentive.I think we may have called at one of their "off moments" and would dine there again even if only to see if the normal standards were achieved. I would be inclined to avoid visiting on a Saturday evening.

Tried telephoning to book a table at 11am on Sunday, I was told they could no longer take anymore bookings for that day, so I asked if that meant they were fully booked? I was told 'no'. So I asked if we turned up how long we could expect to wait, the lady on the telephone informed me it could be anything from 20 mins up to 45 mins. We decided on that information we would try it. On arrival I was told it would be an hour wait. We decided to leave it as there is an abundance of other great places to eat in Ormskirk and if you want a car very The Kicking Donkey is only a couple of minutes down the road.

Now a Toby Calvary. Food was good but had to wait for a gentleman to come and serve the meat, when he eventually came, he was friendly. The food was good although roast potatoes weren't wonderful. The customer service by Maxine and Hazel was poor, not once did they come to our table unless we went and found them to meet our need. We weren't even simply asked 'is that everything?' Or 'how are you enjoying your food?'. Having to pay separately at the end seemed to be such an effort and a chore to Maxine yet declined assisted help from Hazel. Moving onto a more positive note, Naomi was helpful when she ordered our drinks, the puddings were DEVINE, the toilets were clean and the decorations were lovely.

Sadly the place hadnt really improved since our last visit in March and having been closed one would have expected the place to have been redecorated or at least new furniture in place but neither of these happened. Its been going downhill for the last couple of years and as there is plenty choice in the area its unlikely we will be back. The place is OK but no more

I have never been to a place that reopens and is worse than ever!! The decor is drab dull and boring. The wait was too long, the staff in-attentive and the tables were dirty. Food was ok for the price but the menu has been reduced so now it's a Toby you can have carvery, meat free carvery or salad. We were seated on a table opposite the toilet (which obviously also needed attention judging by the smell) no staff asked us what we wanted, or if we wanted a drink. We had to negotiate for a sausage for my daughter (who doesn't eat meat). We weren't even asked if we wanted dessert when finished. We passed the plates along to a waitress and then queued up to pay.It appears the only thing on the up in the Fiveways is the price. An extra £3 a head!! We will certainly not be going back in a hurry.

On our way in some people said they were'n't pleased with their experience but another couple behind them said they really enjoyed it. Lovely modern and well kept place. The food is lovely, but the meat portions are very small. The veg variety os always good, and there's usually a pie alternative too. Whenever we come in the waitress is ALWAYS miserable and rude. (the one with black hair, about 55 years old, with a beehive type hair updo). Kind of spoils your meal out when people are like that. The rest of the staff always seem very pleasant, like they ENJOY their jobs. Just a shame about the 1 person that puts you off coming.

I've visited the Fiveways on many occasions with my family but today's treat for Father's day turned out to be a really bad choice. I chose the carvery: meat choice was excellent but portions were meagre. Vegetables- good selection but barely warm and I thought the roast parsnips were overcooked until I bit into one and found it to be uncooked (frozen produce?). Roast potatoes - unbelievably soft with no crispness or taste. I felt sorry for my children who had paid for this as a Fathers day treat and who were undoubtedly embarrassed. Will think twice before I return. Thought long and hard before posting this review as it is something I am reluctant in doing, but I'm afraid it was that poor.

I've been coming here for years and seen it's changes all for the better to the great British carvery. This has been one of my particular favourites as the venue is ideal for all things whether it's a party, to couple's to dietary needs (celiac ), and accessibility for wheelchairs. Its all on one level open and spacious and excellent value. There's an additional bonus of a separate bar with access to outdoor dining or just a drink when the weather is good. I really can't help myself sometimes when it comes to the carvery, eyes bigger than ones stomach it's next change is due soon with Toby Carvery set to take over! Although that aside I will be tempted to go and try the breakfast next.

Travelling through Ormskirk, we stopped on Saturday evening on our way home. It was busy. We had to wait for a while before anyone came to speak to us. Then we were told it would be about 10mins before there was a table. We sat in a lounge area and had a drink and then we were shown to our table. They serve a normal a la carte menu and also a Diamond Club menu for over 50s, Mon - Sat. Prices are reasonable. We chose the Diamond option and had soup and a main for £7.50. You could have main and a dessert for the same price. The soup was broccoli and cauliflower. It was tasty but it had stringy bits in it and it was not really very pleasant to eat. That was a shame, really. The main courses (scampi and gammon) were both good. Despite the fact that we had ordered the Diamond option, the portions were both of a very good size. We mentioned the soup problem to the manageress and she took them off the bill. In the mornings there is an unlimited breakfast option at £3.99. There is the option of a carvery from lunch onwards. It is £5.95 and it seemed to be very popular. They do a Sunday carvery for about £8.95. There are disabled facilities, free wi-fi , outside seating and large car-park area. They have an adults only room and a private room available to hire for parties. We will be visiting again.

Had a lovely lunch here. Have been a few times and never had a bad feed. The carvery is plentiful and delicious. My son had a burger with a big bucket of chips and really enjoyed it. My only disappointment is they used to do red cabbage on the carvery and it was missing. Not sure if this is a permanent exclusion? However the roast parsnips were gorgeous.
