A truly fantastic representation of an old English pub, where tradition blends with modern touches in a near perfect way. Tucked in the centre of a small village, this pub is a cosy spot for lunch or dinner, with beautiful ornate decoration and a fantastic log fire that welcomes you in on a cold day. The only downside is the toilets which are a bit too tired for my liking, but not a big deal if you don't have kids. The food was fabulous, which was a surprise given the huge variety of options available across the 3 or 4 menus we were given. It was pricey for a pub, but the quality was well above that of an average pub, so I'd say it was reasonable. Staff were very friendly and made a big fuss of our kids which was lovely. Highchairs available, as well as free parking. I've found my new favourite pub!

Not visted this pub for over 10 years. Recently went back 6 weeks ago for their Thursday Steak Night, 2 Steaks & a bottle of wine £40. Food & service was good. This time we went, we told the waitress we dont need a menu we'll have the 2 Steaks/Wine for £40. Food came all fine. Asked for the bill......£60! Errrrrr we told the lady what we wanted. "We dont do that deal"........really (see attached) Not arguing, paid the bill & left. Not only have they lost 2 returning customers, also a awful review on here. So....if you want an expensive Steak Night, this place is for you!!!!!!!!!

Extremely poor service (50 minutes from seating on time for our table until starters finally came). Similar story for the mains. We’d booked this birthday meal months in advance, yet the manager suggested we should be more patient as we were a large table (8 people by the way). Not the place it used to be.

Lovely pub and atmosphere. Some staff seemed a little rude/abrupt when asking about baby changing facilities. Had CousCous Arancini, Beef Roast Dinner and Bakewell Tart. The starter and desert were tasty but the roast was quite underwhelming. Very poor range of vegetarian options which left one person having garlic mushrooms and a side of chips.

Recently dropped in on our way back from a bank holiday family walk with the kids and dog and wow!! This is my new favourite place to eat. Such a beautiful, quaint place. Firstly met and served by who I have to say, were the best staff I’ve ever come across in a pub/restaurant. My husband and I love to eat out, with or without the children but these guys surpassed any service we have had before. So friendly, knowledgeable and made us feel like nothing was a problem. The food was also the best we have eaten in a pub, ever! I cannot rate it highly enough. As a family of 5 with a dog, we sometimes have to eat and run but here we were made to feel so welcome and it was so lovely we didn’t want to leave! Massive shout out to the staff (I didn’t get their names) but the service from them was off the scale. We can’t wait to visit again. Thank you for a lovely lovely time.

We've just eaten here again, probably our 10th visit over the past 5 years. As ever a great menu and with the specials menu adding several more options, more than enough choice for anyone. A shared garlic ciabatta bread, followed by mains and desserts each (mine washed down with a pint of draft (still) cider and a coffee................delicious meal, happily full, all great!

The pub interior is what you could describe as Olde Worlde...yep with some regulars having a drink by the bar and some customers take their dogs along too...however, the food and service I have always found to be excellent. Its a real 'rural type' pub and doesnt (I think) pretend to be anything else. The menu whilst not extensive is quite varied but the key thing for me is that the welcome is warm, the food is really good and the prices are more than reasonable.

We spontaneously decided to stop here for a drink one evening and were pleasantly surprised by the friendly atmosphere, attentive staff that served us, and quality of food. We ordered a selection of things from the menu including; Smokies 5/5 - Wow, delicious, but could've done with some more bread. Calamari 4/5 - Good but not the best I've had, room for improvement, but certainly not bad. Tasty, well cooked, light batter, no complaints. Garlic Ciabatta 4/5 - Good, Great paired with Smokies, could've been a bit more toasted but then again I could have asked for it. Chips 4.5/5 - Really good, can't give a 5 as they're not triple cooked in Wagyu beef dripping. But as far as big chunky chips go, be hard to find better. Overall a cracking country pub, good food, friendly locals and staff, dog friendly too. Will go again.

Overall - this is a "do not go" for me. Unfortunately I have to give this one star. We may have caught them on a very bad day, but here was the awful, beyond ridiculous experience. Arrived about 12:30 for lunch. St around for 10 min with NO one around. Place is empty. Got up to leave, someone appears who thinks we just walked in, and offers us a table with menus. Very friendly, all seemed fine. Says will be back in a minute for order and drinks. 10 min later, we're still sitting unserved and completely alone. At this point a courier arrives, the waiter appears for them, has a 5 min chat, ignores us, then starts cleaning a table which hasn't been used. 5 min later, laughing at the ignorance, we interrupt and ask for our order to be taken, no apologies from them, but all is friendly and takes our drinks only order. The waiter then disappears for another 10 min. So we're sitting there waiting for two simple drinks when another customer walks in. They too sit there waiting for a full 5 minutes for some one to appear. A waiter then serves them after they badgered them, and they get their drinks. After which the staff ignore us again. After 45 min of sitting around and waiting for even 2 simple drinks which never came we've had enough. We assume it will be another hour before we get food, so we leave, but once again we had to wait 5 min just for someone to appear to tell them we were going. Add to that, The place itself was shabby, dirty and desperately in need of a refurb, with the wall near me properly peeling and falling away. The menu was very expensive for the fairly typical pub food on offer. In short, The eagle and child was utterly deserted of customers for a reason - it's rubbish in everyway. After leaving, we tried other pubs and cafes right nearby, and couldn't get in as they were all full. That says enough -> Other places full, eagle and child literally empty.

Brought my mother and daughter for Sunday dinner and we will not return. We were cold in a draft and asked to have the radiator turned on, this didn’t happen and eventually we had to ask to move tables after sitting with our coats on. Sunday lamb shank was fatty and came with roast potatoes covered in gravy so we’re not crispy. Key lime pie was disgusting couldn't eat it, synthetic and horrid texture. They did take this off the bill. The wall paper is coming off the walls by the radiators, toilets stink and disabled isn’t fit for purpose. Too low toilet with no grab rail to get up with. Chairs at the dining tables are so uncomfortable and cheap, dirty painted walls. Whatever happened to this place it used to be top notch, such a shame.
