Five Food, Cafe/bar Bistro in Calderdale

Ordered a takeaway late on Sunday lunch. Ordered a variety of items which were delivered on time. The food was extremely good value for money. Was presented nicely and was extremely tasty. The food was delivered by the cafe and the driver was a lovely curtios man,very pleasant. This was our first experience but certainly won't be our last.

My daughter ordered a delivery from here . Feta chick pea salad and a salmon and cream cheese bagel . She let my try the salad which smelt really fresh . Tasted just as good . I decided that if I got all my housework done I’d take a trip out to get my own . I asked if they could do me a chicken with less feta cheese instead which they happily accommodated for me . They use all fresh ingredients even made the dressing right there and then . Really fresh tasty food . My kind of salad which is near on impossible to get anywhere. Will be using regular now .

Went here for breakfast with my wife and friends (one of whom is bald). Food was great, bacon cooked exactly how we asked it. The owners were very friendly and it was well priced. Will definately be returning.

Called in whilst passing, ordered a ham salad with salad cream, was asked if I didn’t want anything on, I said tomato’s, asked again if salad cream was added as I didn’t notice it being put on, got to the car, no salad cream! Tomato’s and very dry ham, very little filling, all for £3.50 which is expensive for a cafe in the middle of an industrial area. Will happily avoid going forward

This café is a delightful surprise in a pretty location. The food, both traditional and trendy, is freshly prepared to taste from super-fresh ingredients. With generous portions and incredibly low prices, this establishment offers outstanding value for money. There is a homely atmosphere which makes you want to stay, order more coffee and peruse the good selection of newspapers. This is an ideal place for the single traveler in need of a quick sandwich or a group of friends who want to take their time over afternoon tea or a filling lunch.

The food is absolutely delicious. Today, I ordered chicken curry with rice and nan bread. It’s so tasty and yummy. The chicken is cooked perfectly as well as the rice. Would recommend it to everyone. The staff are really nice and friendly. Nice to see people who want to make their customers happy, by giving lots of love and care for them and the food!!!

Visited here due to recommendation I was very disappointed. Hardly any choice of food. No menu so therefore no price list. Cash only which if you don't know how much anything is you wont know if you have enough cash? Very unorganised staff throughout the visit. Cups of tea brought out with tea bag just floating on top, not in a tea pot. Salad and cold frittata served on a hot plate? No cake as they hadn't had time to make one. Wont be returning.

I love it when I have a meeting at the nearby office complex because I can then call in to this lovely quriky cafe for my lunch. The owner Jannine really goes the extra mile for her customers, and is very accommodating. The food itself is delicious, and healthy (though with plenty of treats on offer, too!), the portion sizes are generous and the prices really very reasonable indeed. I was obsessed with the chick pea salad, which is delicious, until I tried the homemade falafel and mint raita salad the other day, and that has now become my new obsession: it was epic. For something a bit special, give this place a try. You won't be disappointed.

Called in for pork and apple cheeseburger in a homemade granary roll and homemade coleslaw roast potatoes. Absolutely sensational and great value when you consider what you might pay for imitation food at large chains. Always exceptional and innovative food!

Finally found this place after much searching due to seeing it on Facebook. Absolutely stunning little place , vintage decor is beautiful, we all had a full English breakfast ...I don't think I will have to eat again today. Very friendly staff .definitely going back .

Great lunch. Vegetarian Nacho was just the job on a cold winters day. Comfortable, relaxing surroundings. Excellent service from very friendly people. Best value for money in the area.

We were walking the Calderdale Way path over from Jerusalem Farm campsite, and this was a great stop for lunch! Comfy seats, great quality food, and lovely service. We probably won't be back as we are from London and only here for a week, but would definitely recommend it! Homemade chips were excellent, the lamb burger was tasty, and scone to finish just what we wanted.

Great fresh food can be bought here, either to takeaway or to eat in. There is a changed menu daily so you never get bored, with the usual sandwiches always available. I would recommend Five!

Fueron los anfitriones amenos y tendían a todas nuestras necesidades, incluyendo nuestra selección de música (alma por supuesto) . Los amigos pronto notado nuestra condición de facturación y se unieron a nosotros para el café de la mañana, que era con rapidez y caliente! Disfrutamos de una avanzada hora riendo y charlando en lo que parecía una acogedora recepción , en vez de un bistro. Llamado para un almuerzo rápido entre empleos. bienvenido al instante fieltro. Aunque el personal estaban ocupados se tomó el tiempo para asegurarse de que todo estaba igual que yo quería. La comida era fresco y sabroso y el ambiente era cálido y acogedor. Hogar lejos de casa. Podría haber estado todo el día. Sin duda volveremos otra vez y lo recomiendo encarecidamente.

Breakfast sandwiches hit the spot and lunch menue super tasty fresh food, recommend the Burrito yum yum.

This cafe is small and tucked away but well worth a visit. Full of character, the staff extremely hard working providing delicious, healthy meals at a reasonable price. One not to be missed!

This place is a hidden gem. The spinach, feta & sweet potato frittata was gorgeous. Will definately be back to try more of the daily specials.

Wrote a review before but it does not seem to have got on the site- so here goes again.Having visited Five before and being knocked over by the food, ambience and much more, I decided to test my opinions by calling in with my good wife who is an excellent Judge in all such matters. She was not disappointed and agrees with all the high marks gave the place. The staff are warm and friendly and never OTT if you know what I mean. The ambience is different to anywhere else I have been, it is clean and inviting- some might say a little dated, but I would disagree. It is a little like going back a few decades but that is no bad thing. The food- well I could go on forever so I will summarise.Healthy- Freshly prepared-tasty - filling- nutritious and well worth the money. As a result of my visit my wife and I are often accompanied by our daughters who have both become fans of this oasis of fine food! Another aspect I appreciate is the fact that the open plan preparation area allows you to see the food being prepared. It goes without saying that Five has attained a Five Star rating from the Food Hygiene Inspectors. The proprietor is a lovely lady and despite the fact that she is very busy making wonderful food she is never so that she cannot take time to advise and explain the dishes of the day. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment. Well Done Five and Thank you.PS They are now open on a Saturday morning.David

We got lost on our way to Holmfield from Chesterfield. We asked in the Mill complex for directions and spotted this absolute gem tucked away among the other offices etc.Massive car park across the street. It smelled delicious, we enjoyed the atmosphere & the food and the staff were exceptional.Freshly made 'proper' HOT Dinner & Pudd came with a smile and was eaten with gusto!! WE WILL BE BACK!!! We went to Cafe Five for my sister in laws birthday. They opened on a Sunday for the special occasion. Jeanine and her staff were so lovely and helpful and couldn't do enough to make our visit enjoyable. The cafe is a bit of a hidden gem off the beaten track and I didn't know it was a part of the old mill. The room is very quaint with china cups and saucers. The sandwiches were so tasty and the cakes were delicious. Well worth a visit.

Just want to say that I had the most amazing flat bread wrap from Five food the other day, It was that nice that I couldn't stop thinking about it and had to go back for another one the day after. Five food do some of the most amazing food that I have ever tried, all fresh and totally to die for. If you have never heard of Five food then I personally would recommend that you go down and try their food, you will not be disappointed. Well done Five food I applaud you :0)

Whether it's for a takeaway sandwich, an energising smoothie, entertaining a business client, or a leisurely Saturday breakfast, Five never disappoints.The food is always well cooked using fresh ingredients, the staff are welcoming and friendly, the environment is homely, and Janine the owner is passionate about the quality of both food and service.Five is definitely worth a visit....or two....or three.....

Always made to feel welcome and look forward to receiving great home cooked food. There is something different to be had everyday and we never know what we will have until we get there and see the menus for the day. Today we had chicken ham and leek pie with great pastry veg and gravy followed by sticky toffee pudding and ice cream.The kitchen is open plan so you can see everything being prepared. Nothing is hidden. A great little find in the middle of the mill complex. We'll worth a visit

Our business premises are in the same mill building.A good warm cafe, where staff are friendly and helpful.Food is good and samples often given out for tasting comments.

Went to Five on Wednesday evening to attend an exhibition of paintings by a local artist, who has his studio in the same building as Five. The place is quirky, vintage, different with real china, comfortable chairs and great food. The staff are knowledgeable about the food and the local area, wonderfully patient and polite, cheery and very good at their job.All in all the evening was great and I'd recommend the place to anyone wanting a home cooked lunch (or dinner). I'll certainly be back again!

We visited Five Food for the first time today. It was a very warm and friendly café and the food was great and the staff very obliging. We give 10/10 for the very light carrot cake which had just come out of the oven. It was so nice we took a piece home.

Called in for lunch after reading the reviews on this web site. What an odd place, the staff were friendly and talked us through the food available in display in the chiller cabinet. My partner is a pie connoisseur and often chooses it if it is on the menu and he said his meat and potato pie was meaty with lots of gravy, a very large portion but a very clean plate. I have a smaller appetite so just had a sandwich which was also very nice and made with GI bread which the waitress recommended.The place is described as "stepping back in time" and "vintage" but I would describe it as "look what I picked up in a charity shop". Vintage is a great look if done well but I feel the owners have just put a lot of second hand stuff together with little thought for design. Nothing matches, not the chairs, tables or table settings.Would I eat here again? Yes if I worked in the area as it is good wholesome food at a reasonable price with friendly staff. Would I make a special trip? sorry but no

This is in the same building as our business premises, so we often pop in for a bite of lunch. It is reasonably priced and wholesome. I have only ever had a sandwich or a wrap but I know my husband has had main courses more often.It is welcoming and comfortable.

Had a fantastic sit down meal of Chili-bean Chicken with Basmati rice. The flavours of chili came through, very wholesome, healthy food. Would Definitely recommend this to anyone who fancies an excellent meal, of home cooked food -just like your Grandma used to make it- at a very reasonable price, warm and welcoming staff. Encouragement to go again and try another dish with friends!

I visited Five for lunch today and was met with a lovely welcome from the staff. The food is absolutely first class - it is all top quality, fresh ingredients, made to order and presented in a very appetising manner. The home made courgette quiche was delicious, the salad extremely fresh and the lemon drizzle cake with accompanying fresh fruit and cream was truly gorgeous. It is so refreshing to find a cafe/bistro where there is a total emphasis on such high food standards. Would highly recommend Five and will definitely return next time I am in the area.

Excellent food and service, will be eating here again ,the roast beef deluxe is the best sandwich I've ever tasted would highly recommened eating here !

I attended an event on WEDNESDAY 15TH MAY 2013, catered by FIVE VINTAGE BISTRO. Approx- 50 people.The quality of food was truly awful. A child of 10yrs could have done better. The food spoiled the day.Splattered onto a plate was watery grey cottage pie. I overheard comments of - " I don't know if I dare eat this". After a long, long,long wait, out came apple crumble.Again sloppy mush, so sweet it set your teeth on edge. It brought to mind, a post war pensioners lunch-- did'nt matter that you had false teeth, it slid down all the same! The waiting staff wandered around in a daze not quite sure what to do, all looked equally embarrassed at having to serve up this slop. You have been warned!!! Go to a catering company that can actually COOK !!

Five is unique and different to almost any place you may go and I try to eat here whenever I can. It can't be compared to other establishments because it is quite different in the owners approach to supplying the highest standard of catering with the very finest of natural and fresh ingredients. Every time I eat here I am energised by consuming genuine food rather than something that contains a mixture of chemical preservatives. The service is honest,welcoming, homely, and never false. I know Five has many many more loyal and devoted customers who just can't get enough!Get round to Five and share this experience!

very disappointed on first visit to the cafe we were greeted by being asked how long would we be staying has it was a very busy day,there was only two other people in, had we come for lunch it was 11.50am,there was only two choices left on the special board, told were we could sit, before being able to sit was asked if we had come for shepherds pie we replied no, the repeated that we had giving the feeling that they had chosen for us.whilst waiting for our lunch pie and peas(20 mins) there was an uneasy atmoshere from the food perparing area( sharp voices). the food was ok although not home made pie.my mum ask to use the toilet which is only accessable through the kitchen.

The quality of food here is exceptional and really good value for money.All food is fresh and the best quality locally sourced produce and as an added bonus nutritional advice from Janine is on hand. All the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.This establishment is just what every area should have.

Top notch! The best food we have had in years, five foods is like home from home and We could see and taste the quality. We can honestly say the best baguette's in Halifax, defiantly worth a visit .Also the staff are really friendly and helpful , they even did our sandwiches to our liking , most cafe's just give you what you get, but the staff listened to our request and delivered ! Went here with some colleagues for lunch on several occasions. Sandwiches are full of great ingredients and the bread is fresh. They offer a great choice of sit down homemade meals, including spaghetti & meatballs, lasagne and pizza. This varies day by day. Overall a great little spot. Grab a bite if possible!

enjoyed a very healthy and great flavoured meal, the meals were full of flavour and every spice, herb etc, was easy to detected and all nicely blended in together, I have never tasted food as well seasoned and balanced ever.The staff was very helpful and made me fell very welcome.I will be certainly eating here again.

Went to try the new idea of Jeannine the owner's of an Italian tapas. It was a set menu so if you are a fussy eater this is not for you. There were four couples in and it felt like you were in Jeannine's home. She has done it out in 40's style which I believe is because she is planning 40's evening too. The food is all cooked from good quality ingredients which is Jeannine's big thing and very tasty. It is a small bistro so the atmosphere was nice and we had a good night.
