Ordered sea bass 40 mins later was told none left, chose another meal and waited another 20 mins food ok

Highly recommended myself & partner stayed her for a fri & sat night. The room has own bathroom with shower,toilet. There was tea/coffee making facilities. Has a iron,ironing board,fold up chair hairdryer,toiletries. Tv with free view & air-conditioning. For what you pay it well deserves its rating,must add pay for the breakfast which is served 9am-11am,food is lovely compliments to the chef we had full English first morning then ,salmon & scramble eggs & poached eggs on toast. It's a perfect location 👌only downside is no parking. Staff are very helpful & welcoming ,it's nice that the owner "Babs" gets involved in work & chats with her customers. Will be returning Room with a view room 1

A lovely find! Great menu selection, there is something for everyone. We had the ploughman’s platter, which was incredible and the hot sauce chicken burger with fries which was authentically hot. Dogs are welcome inside and out and the staff were lovely.

Stopped for brunch but got told 40 mins waiting time, so just had beer Busy place

We had a seafood platter, served on a board. They had run out of crab and made up with some extra of the other items. Whitebait had been re-heated and was hard and not a very appetising colour. On the menu it was supposed to come with ciabatta, but we were served a finish-in-the-oven roll which was doughy, with no butter, 10 minutes after the rest of the food. Very disappointing and not worth the price we paid for it.

Very busy place but hardly surprising - food was excellent. Sat outside which was a bit noisy with all the traffic, but had no problem finding a table. Good sized portions for the price so value for money - only thing that let it down was the loos - tiny, not very clean, and right beside the kitchen.

Had lunch there today with friends and the food was wonderful. Pint of prawns, whitebait, salt and pepper squid, crevettes in garlic butter with samphire all really good. We’ve been here many times and the staff are always great but the food has gone up a level - well done guys ❤️

Good beer, great food & fantastic location

We stayed at Fish on the Quay mid-week and were very impressed with the service. The pub is nicely decorated and our room was lovely; we enjoyed all the little nooks and passageways. Breakfast was delicious and they were happy to make slight alterations to accommodate dietary requirements. Only downside is there is no parking. The B&B is only accessible up some quite steep and narrow stairs, so not ideal for everyone (but fine for us!).

The food is heavenly delicious, and Barbara was really helpful for choosing the dishes that me and my friend absolutely loved : i wouldd recommend the seabass

I came in about 9:15 on a Saturday, was the only one here, and for that reason I asked if “you were still open” he said “unfortunately” so I continued to stand there while he was cleaning the bar waiting to be served. I leant on the bar and he said “don’t lean on there it’s wet” so then I apologised. I continued to wait for another 5 minutes while he cleaned the bar. I was the only one here. He then asked what I want and served me. Awful service, he obviously didn’t want us there, eye rolling and slamming stuff about, didn’t say a word to me the whole time, handed me the card machine still didn’t say anything to me, I said thank you and got nothing back! RUDE GUY! So unnecessarily rude!

Lovely pub, with great food by the estuary in Maldon. Decent menu, and good prices. Highly recommend.

Had dinner, 2 courses. Absolutely wonderful! Have an intolerance and the staff were very helpful and made my food around this.

The service was good. Staff efficient. However, my food was only warm when I received it.

I stayed in the hotel part of this establishment (jolly sailor), and I really love this whole place. Even when work messed up my booking they let me stay and sorted it in the morning. It has a great friendly/family atmosphere from the owner, and all her staff, with great service. Drinks are reasonably priced and the food is fantastic, a great choice, and quality all worth every penny. All freshly cooked and delicious too.

I was hoping for a lovely dinner out with my sister ,food looked pretty good on the plate , unfortunately I noticed a slight ammonia smell to my fish ,sisters was fine . I complained to staff member,food was taken away , chief said it's absolutely fine ! Sorry but it's not ok I can smell something and I'm not happy to eat it . No other dish was brought out for me .I was charged full price which I refused to pay ,girl behind the bar was extremely rude and abrupt to me to the point of almost shouting..not impressed with how this was handled.another dish that smelt fine would have been what any other restaurant would do .won't be returning

I had the haddock and chips it was fantastic m, great service, the dogs were allowed inside. All together a great experience.

First time visited this restaurant lovely location overlooking the estuary. Has roast beef well it was amazing one of the best roast ever. Generous portions all hone cooked fron fresh. Staff lovely and freindly

Lovely place to stay, staff are super friendly and helpful, food was amazing highly recommend the scampi n chips, room was spotlessly clean and the bed pillows and duvet were quality. Quirky way to enter the rooms either through the bar or down the side via the kitchen area however we found this really lovely.

Worst place I have ever stayed in my life! Not worth the money, we have been ripped off. Lovely location, but let down badly.

Beer was warm and off, squid starter was tiny, tuna main was over cooked and saturated in soy sauce with no hint of ginger. Pretty much all the pizzas were burnt, we had to ask for cutlery and when it arrived it was placed in a heap on the table. The lighting was constantly flickering from bright to dim which was hrd for all to sit through, all in all a very poor dining experience.

Spent my birthday going for a walk around Maldon, a place I left over 20 years ago, but where I grew up as a child. Fish on the Quay used to be the Jolly Sailor in my youth, but has now been renamed. We had our dog with us, but he's nervous of other dogs, and the management kindly accommodated our request to be somewhere quiet out of the way of other customers. The food was awesome, from the crab, to the fish and chips. Thoroughly recommended.

Went here tonight they were busy but kirean and Emma fitted us in I had 🍕 lovely wife had burger homemade delicious

We had a lovely meal here on a Tuesday, the host was friendly and attentive and the food was superb. Definitely coming back next time we are in the area.

The chef is brilliant here. My son has a restricted diet and they bent over backwards to accommodate us. I had the tempura squid which was melt in the mouth, everyone knows how difficult squid is to cook and this was top notch. The main course was a tuna steak salad, nicely cooked with an oriental twist to the salad. My companions were equally impressed - they had the mussels which were so fresh they still smelled of the sea, and the pan fried sea bass I am told was absolutely delicious. I didn’t take pictures I was too busy enjoying! Check it out!

Nice location and staff were lovely and attentive, but sadly, the seafood platter wasn't as described on the menu. The platter was meant to be served with crevettes and cockles but wasn't. The mackerel was warm. However, the mussel starter was lovely even though the mussels were small. Would definitely return, but the seafood platter isn't worth the money they charged for it, so I wouldn't recommend it to others who know quality seafood.

Disappointing experience. We booked a fish restaurant for the online menu only to get there and be told today it is a different menu. Maybe you should advertise this on your website or at least contact your online bookings and advise about it. We got there and were told that there is Thai instead of normal menu so we had to find a different restaurant. But on a positive note we will now be regulars in that restaurant while your business lost good business.

Fantastic place! Generous, welcoming, professional staff and delicious and very fresh fish and chips with good portions. Beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the estuary and great selection of beers 🍺

Awful food. Inedible peas, tasteless and over-cooked. Fish very dry and not very tasty. I was up with bad tummy half the night.

11 of us dined here for lunch today, a mixture of fish n chips, roast dinners and a wagu burger ordered. Not one of our party enjoyed their food fish watery and tasteless. Roast dinners potatoes bland veg just yuck and very burnt yorkshires wagu burger was just mush. On a plus side the extra £3 paid for cauliflower cheese was nice. Considering the price of this food we were all left pretty disappointed with the food and needless to say we will not return. Also one our party is a vegan not much choice he ended up with soup and some veg sticks off the kids menu.

Stayed there for the weekend. It's a little gem of a place. Verity and Babs really looked after us. Recommended.

Had lunch with my wife, I had Cod and chips with home made tartar sauce wich wasn't very nice the fish wasn't cod and it was frozen not fresh I asked the server what the fish was a I didn't think it was cod and I asked if it was frozen she said it is cod and fresh I think fresh out of the freezer it was watery and no flavour very poor I wouldn't recommend this place . Having said that the chips were very good . My first and last visit to this place . If you say cod on the menu it should be cod on the plate shame on you.

Stayed with a friend on Saturday room was lovely tea/coffee facilities shower gels towels hairdryer etc only 1 thing is that the room smelt damp the shower door doesn't shut properly so the water went all over the floor so am assuming that is why it smells damp,breakfast was lovely staff are friendly Be aware NO parking and most roads are permit parking. For the money it was OK.

One of the best Sunday roasts I have ever eaten. The roast lamb was melt in the mouth. Home made Yorkshire pudding was divine and the veggies retained thier crunch.

Food was good, however, service has room for improvement. Only half the food came out, it was some 30 mins difference before the rest of us could eat. Bear in mind they were only doing sandwich with chips or crisps. Not impressed with the general customer service when brought to the barman's attention. Very annoying and enough to make me want to eat at The Queen's Head next time.

Absolutely Faultless in every way very welcoming when we went in ...didn't make you feel like we were an interruption .....Food was generous portions not watery and tasteless nice bread and not mean with the butter will definitely return soon thank you

Lovely little pub, nice fish but the chips were slightly under cooked. Overall very nice. Staff are young so might need a little more training on how to smile more. But it's a must goto at the end of a hot day.

Great value. Good food and a fantastic location right on the harbour front at Maldon. Outside tables can’t be booked, so arrive early, especially on Fridays. No table service, so you will have to go inside and order at the bar. Very friendly smiley staff.

Nice place to sit and enjoy a drink on a sunny day

Well below average. Starters calamari was chewy not fresh and served with a plastic pot of wholesale sweet chilli. The burger was average as best, chips awful full of old fat/oil. chicken salad chicken looked like it had been in the fridge for a while.

We booked a table for 1.30 on Sunday to celebrate our daughters birthday. The food was excellent but service horrendous. My sons main was brought out with his starter 2 starters didn't come at all then they brought out starters we had not ordered. 3 times they came and took our order but when we eventually got our meal at 2.45 my husband didn't get one then when he did it they had obviously made a mistake and put peas on which my husband loathes then realised it should have had beans so they took some peas off and put beans on top of the rest. I am diabetic and because of the wait my blood sugars dropped dangerously low, although i carry glucose I need to eat carbs as well but when I ask if I could have a slice of bread I was told no as they would have to cook it!!! my husband had to but a bag of crisps. They took some meals off of the bill but it couldn't make up for the shambles they made of the whole thing and it spoilt the birthday meal. It seems like they are trying to run it with young untrained staff as they cost less but it is not working. A man had booked a table for 2.30 and although they took the booking they shut the kitchen from 2 to 4 , they were then debating if they could do his party any food. How not to run a restaurant, even though the food was lovely won't be going back.

Waited an hour for very basic food, kids restless and hungry making for a stressful wait. When it eventually came the platters prawns were room temperature, tasted like they had been sitting out. 'Came' with crusty rolls but no rolls arrived, waited 10min into meal before they did (after being chased). No side plates, cutlery. Table wasn't cleared of previous clutter. Overpriced.

The food was good. But the chef is short of staff. We ordered at 7pm. Got our starter after complaining at 8:25 and our main meal just before 9pm. We were refunded most of the cost because of the delay. Several other diners also experienced similar delays

Good food and service well presented reasonably priced. Only negative was the Lobster tail was a bit tasteless probably frozen We will be back

Very busy little place this when the suns out. We only stayed for drinks for a few hours over looking the water. Had a great time staff where friendly.

Awful service, nothing available on the menu at 12.30 lunchtime, staff didn't know what they were doing or care, no fresh fish available at all, will never return again and we were not the only disappointed people there, such a shame great location, the weather was fab and they appeared totally not prepared either menu or staff wise - but the worse fact was that no one seemed that bothered when we asked for a refund............................

Now I am not a food critic, but I know a good, great meal when served. However I ordered a seafood platter from here and it was revolting and that’s putting it mildly. The calamari rings were pale and soggy as though they were fried in cold oil. The prawns were off and have a foul smell and taste. The hollandaise sauce was awful tasteless. The crevettes were mostly shell with little meat. Bottom line is that it was a vile meal and pricey for what was served. If you are serving a seafood platter on a board you don’t asked patrons if they need a plate. I can say that the only thing I enjoyed was the bread although butter was scarce. Would not recommend or patronise these premises again.

Love Maldon, the Quayside is great. The Fish on the Quay (Jolly Fisherman) as it was called is great little pub with B&B. The seafood we had was excellent. The Mussels were the best we have ever had. Tip swap chips for bread to mop up the amazing cream and wine sauce...

Pictures are complete opposite from reality. Tables we not cleaned in between seating's. Food very below average, Ordered the fish platter and the smoked salmon was of low quality same as the prawns. Warm beer. Not a pleasant experience. Staff not rude but no enthusiasm. Saw kitchen staff taking out the rubbish and they were to say the least very unhygienic. Don't waste your time here.

Excellent meal and service tonight when we visited with our three sons. Eat seafood and a lobster platter with portions of chips between the five of us with an extra portion of chips and bread.

Dinner we had Paella very nice followed with sticky toffee pudding. Lovely location and great view from our table.

We went on Bank Holiday Monday but the service was very good, friendly and helpful (despite their apologies that we had to order at the bar due to Covid staff shortage), and the food was good too.

We are now regulars here. The good is outstanding. The staff are all amazing... Soo freindly and welcoming. On two occasions the chef... Claire has catered to our non meat eating needs and come up with the most amazing food. We won't eat out anywhere else now We've just had our first Sunday roast.. Vegan.. And it was absolutely delicious EDIT Went last Monday 23/8/21 we were the only customers inside .the manager was there with some friends .we had my 6 year old grandson with us.the guests of the manager were swearing excessively which upset my grandson and us.my grandson asked to leave straight after we had eaten .I have always praised the venue and the staff but this was totally unexeptable.we will never return

Food and service excellent but was astounded to see they only had either Bare Foot or Yellow Tail wine!! Serving that with fresh fish is almost sacrilege. Polite recommendation they up their quality of wine options

We have been welcomed with big smiles and a simple menu that facilitated releasing the long journey to this fantastic restaurant. The fruit de mer was abundant enough for two people. The California white wine was superb. The chips were coked perfectly and the warm bread just to dye for.

Enjoyed a wonderful lunch here today for a family celebration. Event made even more enjoyable by attentive wonderful staff and very good food. Wish to thank all staff, and the creative chef, for making the occasion special for my mother.

Me and my partner went for lunch yesterday I had the crab salad and he had the mussels, all really fresh and tasty, what I found really lovely too is the staff, we were served by different girls and and I must say they were all so lovely, had a really nice way about them, to be honest you don’t that to often, will definitely return

Fantastic meal with equally fantastic faculty

Went there with friends for a mates birthday just before the last restrictions eased. The service was great, the food amazing and they really have done a good job. We were lucky to be there for cocktail hour and the people there really looked after us. We'd recommend and can't wait to go back. 😊

Terrible service and not really following any covid regulations well. There's MUCH better places in Maldon - spend your time and money elsewhere.

Got seated to a table and was loads of flies around, table was sticky too. Waited 55 minutes for a cold seafood platter which never arrived only to be told our order had be forgotten. Wasn’t particularly busy so no excuse. Such a shame as food looked good but due to this experience we won’t be returning. Ended up at the Tiptree tearoom down heybridge basin which was exceptional, know where to go next time. In reply to the comment left, no we was seated to a table as was busy when we arrived, was the only one left. We was never offered a lobster roll either let alone take one, was only told we didn’t have to pay for the glass of coke and 2 beers we had which should be expected after waiting nearly an hour for food which never replied. I suggest your management tries again

First time in this restaurant, having heard good reviews. Food was presented well with very good size portions ! Service & waiting time excellent. Pleased we took the time to try this one out & would go back. Presumably as we'd booked, they didn't ask for other contact details, I didn't see them asking others outside but as all orders were taken at the bar, possibly track n trace was complied with there.

Lovely food and lovely to sit outside! Fresh food and lovely service. Just gets very busy and chaotic sometimes. But I definitely recommend!

What a shame. Attracted by a spontaneous visit and greeted by 'Babs' who discovered we were looking for a place to celebrate a special birthday, she suggested we book a table during the coming week and they would 'look after us'. We booked and got a table we wished for. The staff didn't seem to know we'd booked. Apparently 'Babs' was sat outside with friends - we asked that our presence was brought to her attention - that didn't happen. We enjoyed a G&T followed by two half lobster main meals with a bottle of wine. Staff were attentive, friendly and clearly badly trained in the niceties of service at the table; one meal was served on a cheap plate that was made stable only by support from several napkins. Following the meal we moved to an outside table that had not been cleaned let alone disinfected. The final decision to not go here again was the refusal of staff to acknowledge the governments edict that support in the form of a discount was to be given for anyone for everyone dining out on Monday to Wednesday (this was on the Tuesday) would be given a government granted support of up to £10 towards their final bill. Our bill was a nil-discounted £66.00. This for two half-lobster portions, two G&T and a bottle of wine. Where was 'Babs' who sold us such an invitation but failed to follow up and greet as she so convincingly suggested? Attending an outside table with friends. Result?: lobster half the size we have enjoyed most other places in the uk and at twice the price, and no promised greeting from the management even spending £66.50. You decide. Certainly not encouraged to recommend.
