Fish-a-Licious in Southend-on-Sea

Second time we have been here for takeaway. Fish and batter nice chips nice. Crisp and not greasy. Salad very large and nice. Not too expensive either. Would recommend

After having a terrible day I went online and ordered our dinner. As soon as I released MY mistake I called the restaurant instantly to cancel the order. They were rude and unhelpful and weren’t willing to cancel the order and refund the money. 100% this was my fault as I thought I was ordering at my local chip shop with the same name. But as I called instantly I didn’t think I would be spoken to like I was and refused a refund. The order was £34 and in the end my family had to go without as I couldn’t afford to pay for a second takeaway. The key I spoke to even confirmed they hadn’t started the order yet. So I don’t see the issue. Terrible customer service and never refunded my money

Fantastic customer service. We've ordered from here many times and have always loved the food. Today we ordered a takeaway pizza which is normally amazing but unfortunately this time for whatever reason was really not very nice. I phoned the store to let them know as it almost seemed like some ingredients or something was off. The gentleman I spoke to very kindly made another pizza and delivered it to us all free of charge and this was one was perfect. Very happy customer.

It was takeaway ordered 2 fish and chips may as well ordered crackling and chips probably would have got more fish very poor fish must have been on a starvation diet was a regular customer will no longer be using them again under par will tell all family and friends to steer clear or just toss you're money in the bin

Had fish and chips delivered from here and wasn't impressed, fish was dry and tasted old and the chips not that good either . what a disappointment.

This evening Friday 25th @ 7.15pm. Happily prepared to wait 10 mins for my order of large rock and medium chips.....a further 10min walk home to tuck in to my eagerly awaited meal. The chips looked good, tasted good! The fish looked ok on the outside BUT beneath the batter, a rock eel of no substance....it must of weighed next to nothing before being put into the fryer....absolute rubbish, .....the person who put this into the fryer must of known there was some mug out there....ME......I can honestly say this is the first time I've written about a bad food experience, not that it's my first bad experience, just never be bothered .....Just don't go back.

Food ordered for 7pm but arrived at 6:10pm when I was not home. Wife tried to keep it warm but by the time I arrived home at 6:40 fish had gone hard and dry. Mostly inedible and had to be thrown away. Fish was also of very poor quality. Will never use again

Best fish and chips in Leigh easily.. so clean in there and the most friendly staff and owner. Love that they have loads of choice on the menu and they have a brand new pizza oven that looks amazing! Can’t wait till we can try the fresh pizzas... love it wouldn’t go anywhere else.

Staff are friendly, food is really good, not greasy at all and cooked fresh when you order. Not just fish and chips on the menu, they do steak, pasta, pies, burgers, you name it! Really fast delivery and the delivery driver was nice too has become my go-to chip shop, definitely recommend!

The food portions are an excellent size and the quality is amazing! The owner is so lovely. Couldn't have had a better experience. Will definitely be coming back soon. :)

Great food and large portions. Wow what more can you ask for? Well there is more- a great service too. I ordered 4 large cod and 3 large chips. Even though my wife reckons they are the best chips she has ever had we could not finish them, there were so many! Nice friendly people that care. Will definitely be back.

New favourite chippie! We were searching for chips after 9pm (had gone into our usual, Fish 2 Go on Elm Road, and had been 'greeted' with such abrupt and insolent service we gave up, just couldn't wait to get out of there) but then we remembered this place, having driven past it. They couldn't have been nicer, even though they were preparing to close, the GF options were fab and the general decor and ambience warm, clean and stylish. Most importantly, the food was outstanding, generous portions too. Highly recommended.

Had gluten free and regular haddock delivered this evening. Absolutely delicious and right on time. Chips were lovely too. Back to how it used to be.

Wonderful - fish and chips is such a rare treat for my wife. As a coeliac there are so few places that offer GF fish and chips, so finding great reviews for Fish-A-Licious we decided to try it after a day out at Adventure Island.Fish was perfectly cooked, chips lovely and my wife very happy with her very generous portion of GF fish and chips.Nice staff too - happy to chat.Thanks!

These guys are the best! Fresh, delicious, well-priced with a great variety of eat-in or takeaway foods. Something for everyone! And they care about their customers, too. We was looking for a new car in the area and decided to stop for a bite to eat here. They freshly cooked our food while we sat outside in the sunshine. Our food was brought to us with condiments needed. Very nice it was! Then we used the toliet facilities too very clean and well looked after. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Recommend this to people.

We phoned through a large order for 30 people, and the owner was really friendly and helpful, particularly with food allergies. All the food was ready on time and hot. Everything was great quality, large portions, tasty chips and very large and tasty cod. Thank you!

We went here by accident when our usual place let us down. What a find! The staff were so helpful, everything was freshly cooked and very delicious. Their chips are really something, I really recommend this.

Sadly, I used to love a Saturday evening Fish Supper from here, but since it's been taken over, their GF fish has become rather like shoe leather. I've tried a couple of times lately, but each time the fish has been dried out and almost rubbery. The Gluten Free batter is also thin, dry, not crispy and a strange pale shade now; nothing like it used to be.The only good thing I can say about it, is they clearly know about cross contamination as I had no "Glutened" reaction at all. Oh and the shop has had a make over and looks much nicer now.

This used to be to go to place for fish and chips, unfortunately, it is no longer! Im not sure how they cook fish so quickly but the result is less than tasty! The batter is way overcooked, can be quite chewy and has an odd tang to the taste. The chips look and taste like bulk buy frozen chips. They're not the worst I've tasted but there is not a lot I can say about them that's positive. The menu is extensive and I think this is a major reason behind the demise of this establishment. They should make up their mind what they are! A fish and chip shop or a general purpose cafe! On the plus side, it has been nicely refurbished!

Nice resturant area all done up. Quick service and made from fresh. All very tasty and a small cod and chips is only £3.45. Great fish and chips which are reasonably priced.

I walked in to fish shop to get some fish and chips when I look at menu first thing I have noticed it's way more than a chip shop err is it breakfast shop or is it lunch diner or is it fish and chips shop finally I have bought a small chips it's definitely not worth for the money very soggy and basically was inedible it's a plenty choice in the area

Food was awful and expensive. Too much on the menu which indicates they don’t specialise in anything. The small chips were so small and definitely not worth £1.60! Never going back

Asked for a delivery. 45 minutes late. Then the delivery chap couldn’t find us,so the food was only tepid.Although the fish itself was nicely cooked,the batter had a very strange chewy texture. Chips were a bit soggy. Don’t think we’ll be visiting again.

This place has had its ups and downs, mostly down last few years, but its had a total re-fit, now a sit in Restaurant with bigger menu, and the fish and chips are now Cooked to order, much better and fresher, theres a £3.95 all day deal too, nice chips, nicely cooked Fish no soggy batter, have had several orders from here last few weeks (Chips/Pie/Fish) and its all been good. no complaints so far.

Was looking forward to visiting as it's the first fish and chip shop we've seen that does gluten free fish but we was left extremely disappointed.

Certainly had high hopes for this new ‘chip shop’ after being closed for refurbishment due to new owners taking over, however was extremely disappointed. The menu is extensive, pasta, salads baguettes therefore there is no speciality in anything certainly not fish and chips! Ordered cod and chips, and sausage in batter/chips. Both were awful, cod was just a soggy battered mess with dry inedible chips with the battered sausage rock hard!! Is it a fish and chip shop or a cafe? Certainly not worthy of a Friday night trip for fish and chips!

Wrote a review in June. Have visited since and the new owners appear to be getting their act together. Their Gluten free ovation being available every day is a feather in their caps.

Really love what these guys are doing, gluten free options are great and the chips I had today were gorgeous - crispy on the outside an soft and fluffy inside. Been going here for over a year now, and it is going from strength to strength! The staff are really friendly, service is quick and efficient, big portions and offers great range and value. Keep up the good work!

Has been a great chippy for some time but recently gone down hill, the chips were soggy and clumped together and the fish was sadly the same. Underwhelmed and disappointed after looking forward to this as a treat.

Me and my family come here every Wednesday, they do a special deal £3.50 for fish and chips and it’s is always freshly cooked and tastes delicious. We absolutely love their homemade tartar sauce and as we sit in and eat at the restaurant we get a free salad with our meals.

Fantastic food and the most friendly staff. Could not fault anything about my experience here! I will be back.

Have been getting fish and chips here for a while as my husband has to have gluten free. When he went to collect that and ordinary haddock ,he said what lovely people they were. However the quality of the fish is not as good as it used to be. The chips while a huge portion,were very undercooked and stuck together in a soggy lump. What a shame that the new owners have let us down.

Have bought my fish and chips here for a long time and have always been very happy with the quality and service. Also they have been able to supply gluten free fish which was great for my wife.

Visited for the first time after new ownership .. after reading recent reviews I was a little reluctant but as so close to home decided to try.

Recently tried this restaurant for the first time last week and was delighted with the quality in the food. I ordered large cod and chips for myself and didn't reset it one bit.For the price you pay you definitely get a good meal. I highly recommend this to anyone especially for those nights that you cannot decide what to cook and are feeling lazy.

I guessed the place had been taken over by the dreadful quality of the fish and chips we had tonight. The fish was dry and the batter chewy and greasy, such a shame as it used to be so good. The Wednesday special has gone up by £1.20 and although it was incredibly cheap before at £2.30 it used to be delicious. Tonight's offering at £3.50 wasn't worth it at all. Shan't be going back.

Tried the rest, now try the best. Always generous sized fish cooked to perfection. Had chicken From the grill which Is succulent and tasty.

Cayó en un jueves por la noche y las cuatro de la novia Cod intentamos y patatas fritas. Absolutamente excepcional calidad, pescado fresco y grasiento. Patatas fritas también estaban bien. Es básicamente un sitio con unas pocas mesas, en un entorno muy básico pero limpio....

Buena comida, personal muy amable. En general, un gran pescado & chips tienda! Se lo recomiendo a todo el mundo.

Visité la tienda la semana pasada con unos amigos un pescado sabroso n comidas fritas. El pescado estaba muy aceitosa (esperamos haber sido muy largo antes de servir) y las patatas fritas eran muy fríos. Pudo haber sido una experiencia mejor! La comida era mala.

Este tiene que ser el mejor pescado y patatas fritas que he tenido en mucho tiempo! Todo era muy buena y caliente. Pedí un regular cod para £3. 90 y la pieza que me dieron era enorme. Fue una increíble relación calidad precio. No puedo recomendar lo suficiente

I have to eat gluten free these days and so far had to accept not being able to have chip shop chips again... until tonight! Great work by Fish-a-Licious to offer dedicated GF option cooked separately to avoid cross contamination. Will be back for more soon!

Im so disappointed, new staff again. I cant believe how poor the service was, fish was so oily and there was a different smell in the shop. Need to find another place now!!

Clean and friendly staff. Fish was good but had better. Chips were crispy but lacked a bit of taste. Free portion of tartar source which was fresh and a nice touch. very clean and good value. Been to many Fish and chip shops, this is local to me but there is a better place and good place to eat in, check out my other reviews

Walked past tonight and John is back!!! So went in for fish and chips and it was back to its best. Fish was delicious, the batter was crispy and the chips were fresh!

Me and my boyfriend visit here regularly! Staff always welcoming and have now tables to sit in! Great portions, chips are lovely and thick and ALWAYS hot and fresh ! We always make the effort to go to this fish and chip shop as it's the best! 5*

I visit my nan every 2 weeks and buy her fish and chips on my way, and this place has been lush! Fair price and amazing cod, always fresh!! 10 out of 10!! I recommend this place if you pass by !!!

Be very careful with gluten free. It's got a new owner who does NOT understand cross contamination. Big shame as this used to be great.

Being a die hard Northerner (and proud!) I have really struggled finding a decent chippy down south....The chips are either bland or like lego bricks and the fish is all skin or not really haddock.Fish-a-licious is the exception to the rule.Lovely fresh cooked chips, crisp thin batter on really tasty fish.They also have real Lincolnshire sausages as opposed to the generic tasteless brand.It is fair to say that this is now my regular haunt!

Fish-a-Licious is the best take away fish shop in Leigh and may be the whole of the Southend area There fish and chips are second to none and the best thing is that they serve gluten free fish every day.My wife is allergic to wheat so normal fish & chips are a no go for her.We phone our order to the shop and because of the gluten free option she can enjoy fish & chips with the rest of the family.Cant rate this place higher.

Hands down, the best fish and chips in town. The chips are so chunky, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle! I would also recommend the fish bites. Very tasty :)

Lovely food friendly staff. Food was fresh and tasted amazing. Would definately recommend. Shop was very clean, relaxed atmosphere to sit and relaxed while you enjoy your food, There is also a variety of food that they do which i found great for kids.

Three of us grabbed a takeaway on Saturday and rushed off with them to bench on Westcliffe Parade. Firstly the portion sizes were huge! The fish was beautifully cooked to order. Crisp light batter covered the fish so fresh it tasted like it had just been caught. Then the chips. Oh my, I dare anyone to find better chips in Essex. Even the tartar sauce tasted as if were home made.

Had the Wednesday special. £2.40. For cod and chips. Good size portion of chips, a small piece of cod, plenty for a Wednesday tea time treat. Will be back next Wednesday.

What can I say!! Absolutely amazing food! Best fish and chips I've had for ages, very friendly and welcoming, full of smiles and very bubbly staff,the chips was incredible, very clean and tidy. I will be defiantly be going back to this place and would 100% recommend!!!

Fist time here and it won't be the last!!! Superb chips that look like and taste like chips!! Also had fish cake and fishy bites. Was offered complementary sauce. Friendly service and well priced with generous portions. Recommended.

My partner and I love getting our fish & chips from here. Always cooked to order and very fresh and tasty and never greasy.We have always found the staff to be very polite and friendly and very efficient.As a bonus you can get a card stamped each time you place an order and once you have collected 5 stamps you get a fish & chips free on the house.We will be forever customers of this great place

Treated my friend appallingly because they thought he was gay. Smirking and sniggering. Plus the chips were dreadful.They treat vegans like crap too.Best avoided if you don't want bad chips with a free side order of hatred.

I was in the queue and the cook assumed a customer was gay because he had an eyebrow piercing and because he asked if the chips were cooked in the same oil as the fish. Then he was smirking the whole time he was there, he also referred to the man sarcastically as "love" and then corrected himself whilst laughing

Myself and hubby left Lakeside shopping late tonight ( Saturday ) around 9pm , we needed dinner and fancied fish and chips .Every fish and chip shop on our way home , ( we live about 45 mins away ) we passed was closing up . Luckily about 10 mins from home we approached here and saw the open board outside so pulled over quick , he cooked us cod and chips fresh , so glad everywhere else was already closed as this was fab fish and chips and portion so big we reluctantly had to leave some of our chips .Often places you come across by sheer chance turn out to be little gems and this is , will definitely use again . Also read they do gluten free too if you give them about 20 mins notice to heat up the separate fryer , great news for future use for our daughter who is wheat intolerant .

Don't know how he does it, but he does, £2 for cod and chips every Wednesday, great service, you can even sit in if you like, feed a family of 5 for £10, not stingy portions either, the plaice...i mean place is super clean too, pop in and see his Boat collection.

Tried the Wednesday £2 Cod and Chips deal, freshly cooked, crispy batter and excellent chips. I was expecting a tiny portion but was proved wrong, the meal was excellent and unbelievable value!

I visited here with my partner and 12 year old daughter The food is so much better than expected from a chip shop and the menu is so much more than you would normally see We felt right at home and the owners really couldn't be more welcoming We will be visiting again and recommending friends and family visit too

Went way out of our way to buy take away fish and chips from this restaurant because of all the rave reviews. Well I don't know what happened. We bought 2 pieces of cod and 1 portion of chips - £12. The batter on the fish was lovely and crispy but the fish was very dry and the chips not only looked horrible and dried up they tasted horrible and we couldn't eat them. I suspect they were left-overs that had been re-heated - only explanation for what we had. My family who live locally say what wonderful fish and chips they have and how everything is cooked fresh but that was certainly not our experience. I suppose I will try again but not unless I am desperate for something to eat.

We went in on our way back from scouts and didn't know what to have. As always we found that the recommended fried salmon and chips was knockout. Fried fresh and a large portion for both father and son. Will be going back for more and always polite and attentive staff.

Had a take away from this chippy. To be honest we drove past several similar places to get to it because of the rave reviews on here. The service was a bit slow and the food was ok. Nothing "wow" about it, but exactly what we would expect from a chippy. It's good old fish and chips. Prices average, service could be faster. Nice and clean and no "old fat" smell that you sometimes get from a chippy. 3 out of 5 food hygiene rated. Don't think we would drive out of our way again, but nothing horrendous to report.

The fish is very fresh and perfectly cooked as are the chips. Having recently moved to Leigh it is wonderful to have found such a great chippie on the doorstep. The service is exceptional and extremely friendly. Definitely the best fish bar in town
