Had the best gluten free fish and chips I’ve had in the 20 years I’ve been gluten free Amazing

Amazing chips! Breakfast was also delicious... Nothing was left behind on a chilly New year's Eve 2024.

We had a beautifully cooked small fish and chips which was delicious. Freshly cooked and everything about the meal was lovely. Service was wonderful as the staff were friendly and the place was clean and there were plenty of options from the menu available.

Small clean and cosy place .Staff were very friendly and welcoming and attentive. Food was made fresh to order. Reasonably priced . I had the small cod and Chips which was more than ample , served with a garnish of salad and generous wedge of lemon . The chips were triple Cooked . Hot and Crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Drenched in salt in vinegar they were perfect . I had my family with me and they all throughly enjoyed their meal . Highly recommend .I would visit again .

Lovely little Fish and chip shop. Owners couldn’t have been more accommodating, one of our party is a coeliac he made sure everything they had was gluten free.

Hands down the best fish and chips in Southend. Look no further this is a great Plaice to enjoy traditional fish and chips. Fresh and tasty fish and the best chips on the seafront. Takeaway or eat in the staff are super friendly and make your day at the beach a memorable experience. Thanks and as I only live down the road this is where I always go and would always recommend. Cant wait to get back there this week.

Just had cod and chips. Very nice and piping hot, Chunky chips much better than my local chippy and the cod was fair size for the price. Certainly recommend if you are down this way for dinner.

Wow where do I start the cod is amazing you can taste how fresh it is staff are very friendly and welcoming if you are in Southend trust me give this place a try my daughter also loved it 10stars it’s a shame we can only give 5 as it doesn’t do this place justice absolutely amazing place to eat

What a little gem in Southend. Had the best Fish n Chips ever plus a gluten free one for my friend. Perfectly cooked and served with a smile. Very reasonable too. Had the children's portion as I can't manage an adult one but there was no hesitation to serve it for me. Highly recommended.

Best fish and chips I have tasted for a long time.

I took my kids here for lunch during the 6 weeks holiday and the friendly and welcoming staff really looked after us. The food was cooked fresh and was piping hot and delicious. I thoroughly recommend this Fish and Chip shop and I will definitely be returning there when I visit Southend upon Sea again.

Absolutely bland food fish is frozen and full of water can tell it’s full of water and tasteless if you no good fish and chips don’t come here chips are not home made and frozen chips avoid at all cost absolutely disgusting food

As my Daughter is Celiac we needed to find somewhere that did gluten free. What a find this place was !!,......fantastic food, the service was amazing and not too expensive. Will always come back here when visiting Southend.

This is an amazing establishment and I would recommend everyone to come try it out !! Reasonable prices and big portions of food . Food was delicious , chips were nice and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside , fish was cooked to perfection and was nice soft and flakey and this was served with a nice side of salad , service was outstanding and the 2 lovely girls helped out with everything needed , all I can say is this is the best fish and chips in Southend on sea !!

I cannot stress enough that people should not walk but run to this place, Tony is an excellent cook and host... I didn't catch the young girls name who was at the door, but the food and service was spectacular. I work in Southend and I have a healthy breakfast followed by a healthy lunch. Chefs kiss is an understatement.

We loved visiting alfies together! I am so greatful you serve great gluten free fish and chips! I struggle so much trying to find food when I'm out that caters to my medical needs and you went above and beyond making sure I knew what vinegar I could have and I felt everything was really safe. Amazing little place, food was spot on and was so yummy! Staff were so accommodating, I was very overwhelmed with my one year old and the lady (sorry didn’t get a name) was so lovely and kind and understanding. Absolute gem of place that serves safe gluten free fish (and scampi) and chips. I visited on Sunday and wasn’t disappointed at all. I was blown away at how safe I felt eating there, how knowledgeable and attentive the staff are and enjoyed the most delicious, light and crispy fish and chips. I’ll definitely be visiting again next time I’m in Southend.

This hole in the wall is managed by people who love what they do and want to share that love. Went for fish and chips but was offered freshly caught sea brim cooked up perfectly with fresh sides that made this place an instant favorite. No complaints regarding the food and service here. I highly recommend all to stop in.

After walking up and down the sea side without finding absolutely nothing gluten free I stopped in this little restaurant where I had a gluten free fish and chips!! The owner was very nice and explained well how they take care of cooking the gf food in a separate pots and oil 🙏

Had fish and chips here with the wife and friends the food was good . Fish and chips isn't a cheap meal anymore anywhere. But we enjoyed the food one of the better fish and chips I have had in Southend. Thank you see you soon .

We went here for lunch yesterday and loved the food. Very welcoming and friendly staff. The food was perfect, it was fresh and made very quickly. The chef which is also the boss of the restaurant is very professional and kind hearted😊 definitely we would recommend this place to friends and many people as the place is clean, tidy and there’s delicious food. We have visited this place to eat so many times, every year actually, in this same place. This shop is the best👍

After a fun evening at Adventure Island, our large group ended up in Alfie's. The staff were very accommodating and the waitress was particularly patient as she took our orders. My son is allergic to fish and they very kindly cooked his meal in separate oil, which I really appreciated. The children (and us adults too!) were even offered lollipops as we left! Funnily enough, as I looked around, I realised I had eaten there with my son 7 years previously, when he was two! The food hit the spot and there were no complaints. When one of the party accidentally sprinkled sugar instead of chips over her plate, they even gave her extra chips, after overhearing the commotion! The customer service is so impressive. In this day and age, it really stands out, hence why I've taken the time to write this review. Thank you for making us feel so welcome 😊

NOT GLUTEN FREE - advertised gluten free chips in a separate fryer but they will make anyone with a gluten allergy very ill. When speaking to the owner there was just an argument with no positive outcome, she doesn’t care that her food made people so ill.

Its really nice to eat here, the food is great and the staff and owner is kind and nice. We did have a great time dining here. Overall 10/10

My food was edible (I was hungry) but I've defo had better. I had saveloy and chips; was expecting proper chip shop chips but that's not what we got. Service was swift though. As we were leaving though, staff were acting as if we were gonna leave without paying because a couple of our group went to the toilet across the road (they don't have their own toilet facilities for customers) and were making jokes about us leaving that came across a little passive aggressive, as if we weren't paying customers.

Me & my partner ate here for lunch, they was able to accommodate both of our food allergies (gluten & dairy), was great and definitely recommend 👊🏼

Had a brilliant hangover cure from here! Lovely full English, good cup of tea. Friendly staff, good location. Couldn't really ask for more. The breakfast wasn't greasy at all, I didn't feel dirty after eating it unlike in some cafes 😂

Really not sure how this place gets 4 stars average rating. I chose Cod and chips. I should have known the error of my ways as soon as I spotted chunky chips. In my experience they are generally pretty bland. And these chips really were the blandest of the bland. But I’ll give Alfie’s credit where it’s due. The service was excellent and the Cod was cooked to perfection and tasted good too. Otherwise, I won’t be making a repeat visit. Unless they change their chips.

Unfortunately the chips were processed and not traditional fish and chip chips, over greasy. Fish was a very small portion and again over greasy, could not fault the service or atmosphere.

Had a delicious lunch here yesterday but my only criticism would be that I had ham, egg and chips and it was wafer thin sandwich ham. I was tempted to refuse and re order but everything else was delicious. Please don't do this to other customers 😢

Alfie fish and chips is the best in Southend on sea- very fresh haddock and cod. The hash brown is so soft, golden and crunchy. The chips are delicious and the portion sizes are very generous. Highly recommended & will visit it again & again!!!!!

Came here today as it has gluten free fish and chips. Wasn’t disappointed and thoroughly enjoyed eating here. Fish was good and the chips were crisp with fluffy texture. The photo was halfway through eating. My partner had normal fish and chips. Her friend had all day breakfast. All positive :) would eat at again.

Nice and clean, the fish and chips in the restaurant looked lovely, BUT my quater pounder and cheese looked like it had been sat on and was rubbery and tasteless.

Chips were greasy. Tasted and looked like they were oven baked from a packet. Cod was 2/10. £10 each for small portion. Shame as me and the missus were looking forward to a bit of quality fish and chips

Very disappointed, it was our 4th visit here as we really enjoyed previous visits but unfortunately it has gone downhill. The chips were overcooked, hard & burnt, the fish was a small portion, the sausage wasn’t nice, the service was bad with the waitress sitting down & chatting to a friend & the other person continually outside smoking. Not a very nice experience & our last visit here.

Great food but suprised there were no toilets or anywhere to wash your hands. More than 10 seats I thought it was required.

Great gluten free fish and chips ! I am coeliac and allergic to soya, my son is gf and df. We eat here no problem, they serve gf any day but ring ahead as they need to turn the gf fryer on as gf is cooked separately just like it should be! We chatted to the chef and owner who is very nice, chef’s son is gf so they know how to cater for allergies correctly. It is a small place but food was absolutely lovely, amazing chips! It is located just opposite the pier under the covered walkway. Also look up Gold Coast Chinese, menu shows allergens, the owner’s son is severely allergic so they cater for allergies :D
