Really good atmosphere and quality service with friendly staff. Would recommend.

Came down from the Westmidlands for a couple of days & had a few drinks in here, the staff was sooo friendly & made us welcome so I'd definitely stop here again for a beer or a few next time we come down.

I didn't order any food, so I can't comment but the service was top notch with a great atmosphere

I wouldnt recommend this venue, I also think the atmosphere is fairly flat and it has a general bad vibe to it.(just to add to this review in response to what the manager has put is incorrect I wasn't refused entry at all, I just don't like the general ambience and atmosphere in fact I don't drink, but still go out with friends to places where there is a general good vibe and not just for those people who want a great vibe getting absolutely plastered), venues should have a general good atmosphere and it shouldn't be based on having a good time being completely and utterly drunk.

First visit. Great pub with fantastic service from friendly staff. Will come again.

A very atmospheric pub. The clientele is also old-style, a running dog. You want to feel the atmosphere of a pub and a delicate note of danger. I recommend.

Dickens was very good friendly bar staff and the gover was very friendly

Me and my friend asked to come in, as everyone else was. The security guards denied us entry because we needed to use the toilet. We said that we would buy a drink and they could watch us buying it but still they denied us the right to use a toilet. Finishing with “thank you”.

Great,atmospheric,busy pub. A pint of San Miguel for under £5 in Southend!!! The barmaid who served me was friendly,polite and efficient. She told me the owner was'nt greedy and so didn't overcharge. It showed. The pub was busy,with a nice relaxed atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit.

Before I used to visit this place I wasn't too sure of it was a bit of me. I was so wrong, everyone here are so friendly. The staff have a great relationship with their clientele and make everyone welcome. By far the most friendly pub I have been to in Southend.

This is honestly my favorite pub. The owners are absolutely amazing. And the staff members are always super brilliant atmosphere highly recommended. The beers are very good value for money not to expensive

Nice pub, nice and clean, The bar staff are really friendly A+++ NIce selection on largers!! (A pub what serves my favourite Heineken thats always a winner) : ) Look forward to going there again soon

Hay, what to say. Bell rung at 9.36. Yes online it says closes at 10 but when the pub is busy, well ish and there is still 20 mins left of the football surely you stay open especially in trying times. Oh well at least spoons was open

Terrible staff and management. Would absolutely not recommend this place to anyone looking for a bev in the area. Would rather fight my way through Wetherspoons. Staff here have since taken to leaving bad reviews on my business in response to this review. I was turned away from The Dickens at the door with an absolutely desperate for the toilet 4-year-old -- and I'm sure everyone can empathise that children often don't know they need to go until they really need to go. The Dickens was the closest place. She was forced to go to the toilet in the street across the road. This was in the early afternoon. So, I still wouldn't go here if they can't even let a child in to use a bathroom for what would have literally amounted to less than two minutes.

This pub is SUPER friendly, full of amazing staff and management - and the 'regulars' are pretty cool too. Toilets are clean. Lots of seating. It's just a tad bit on the expensive side (for a drink). I'll definitely be returning... Over N over again!!

Had my 50th birthday party here loved every minute. U couldn't ask 4 anything more music karaoke it was a fab night.

Come for day trip to Southend and after going round the pubs in centre we came here. Brilliant atmosphere, was definitely the most authentic place we visited that day. Very friendly and the karaoke made our night! Their lager of the same name was a good price.

Only had a couple as travelled from St Albans for the day. Absolutely blinding pub and both girls behind the jump were very welcoming . Will defo be back in a few weeks for a proper session.

Today I went to meet some friends at this place after a day of work. Really needed to go to the toilet before ordering, 3 blokes came to kick me out and I still wonder why. Will visit again very soon to see if these 3 are around and sort everything out

Had a birthday party here for my brother in March. Only a small do but the staff were so friendly and went out of their way to set up with balloons and all sorts. And they had karaoke on the night so double bonus 😂

I dont know why I like this place so much but I do. Its friendly, there are TVs with sport on them, the weekends are lively, theres always karaoke and good times. Happy days.

Not the best pub in the town, but also not the worst. Poor beer selection, but ideally situated for a quick pint off the train

Great night at The Dickens Public House with The SUNRAYZ playing fantastic Rock and Roll.

No real ales but a hop house will suffice.
