Fiorentini's in Derry

What a spot!!!! Wonderful charasmatic diner. From the decor to the music, the staff so helpful and friendly. Such a wholesome family feel to it. Generations of families going for a wee treat after school. My youngest had a children's icecream special, my oldest cheeseburger and chips with hot fudge Sunday. The food was fresh, the service was friendly and quick. The place was lovely and clean. Proper Italian ice cream tastes delicious. Will definetly be returning. We had a fish and chips take out from here. Why we didn't take it straight back, I'll never know. The chips were ok but the fish was dreadful. Very dry with dark brown knobbly batter. I don't know what you would have to do to achieve that result. I think you'd have to take fish that you'd left over from the previous day and refry it. Might be best to start with stale fish in the first place?

Chips are chunky and proper homemade, very tasty and service is great would def recommend for a trip

Simply the nicest,proper chunky chips to be found. Nowhere comes close. I occasionally ''eat in''and sometimes the chips appear to be a bit greasey (Maybe a bit more of a shake when they come out of the fryer would sort that) The fish although small in size is usually spot on also, with a the fresh haddock or whiting incased in a nice crispy batter. Loads of salt and vinegar and a few slices of bread and a pot of tea and you have the traditional fish and chip experience at its finest. I'm not much into Ice-Cream but the wife and kids are and they love it here. Should be more busy than it is, but I think the younger generation is more inclined to go for next doors type of cuisine. I hope Florentines never shuts as it is by far the best fish & chips in Derry despite others claiming to hold that accolade. The early closing time is a bit of a drawback.

Come here for chocolate nut sundae anytime we visit the city, got so expensive though for what you get. £5 is just too much but it's simply gorgeous and while on holiday I do splash out. Would say if your visiting the city to try them out just once, it's home made ice cream and is very tasty, serve a large variety of sundaes

A trip to Fiorentini’s on the Strand Road was like a trip back in time, as my lunch companions had been coming here for literally decades. We ordered three fish and chips (predictably) with tea and coffee. The sign said self-service so ordering and pre-paying and collecting of napkins and cutlery was all done at the till. The food was okay, very traditional, thick, hand-cut chips and battered fish. It was fine, not fancy, no mushy peas or tartar sauce on the side, but hot and well cooked. It was brought to the table within just a few minutes. This old-fashioned cafe really is somewhere that time has stood still. The place was cold, with hard seats and was fairly empty for a Saturday lunchtime. The staff didn’t get into any conversation, even though we were visitors to the city. On the plus side, nice to hear a bit of Dean Martin crooning a few “Italian “ style songs over the speaker and a real Italian theme on the walls. The bill was fair, good value really and portion size was adequate. But hey d’ya know what, I do like these old-school cafes! G

Popped in for ice-cream with a friend. Had a simple vanilla ice-cream which was great. Service wonderful too; Michael lovely to chat to. Had a bit more time to pass, so I suggested to my friend that we stay for a coffee as well. He had tea, and I had possibly the best cappuccino I've EVER had. Strong, smooth, with a lovely froth. Can't be faulted 10/10! Word of warning: I do like my coffee strong, so if you like your insipid, don't expect this to suit your tastebuds!! Please support places like this. The chain coffee shops mean that wonderful places like this are struggling and dying out. That would be a real pity!!

Very good option of Ice Creams and hot foods which won't bankrupt you. The chips are unreal very good value for money. Staff are lovely, has a nice chilled atmosphere to the café.

Stopped in for lunch after the Waterside Half Marathon. Fried breakfast was spot on, hard to beat. The weans had chicken nuggets and chips. The chips are home made, nice and crispy. Wife had a chicken omelette and didn't complain, which is a compliment. Next time I'll treat the weans to the ice cream menu.

I bought a sausage supper takeaway there today and it was absolutely revolting. I've never seen anything like it in my life. Absolutely disgusting and inedible.

Stopped here for a bite to eat yesterday. Great portion and quickly served. My husband got fish and chips and I got chicken chilli wrap. The portion size was good and the food was very tasty. The chips were the best we've had in Derry in a long time. I had tea and hubby had coffee which he said was worth coming in for on its own. The music in the background was good old Dean Martin which we love. Overall the food was delicious, the place was clean, young boy who served us was polite. One downfall you can't pay with a card. You need cash.

Went back here after quite a number of years to get ice cream, sitting in. The actual quality of the ice cream is first class but the price and portion sizes leave a lot to be desired. For £5 a choc nut sundae with maybe 1.5 scoops of ice cream is extortionate.
