Disappointed with the portion of chips I was served considering the price.

Oscar Mccarthy Was the best when we went the shop gave us extra salt on the Chip

I ordered Cod and chips for 4 people. The price was about £11 each. It was early evening so there was no one else in the shop. Food was freshly made and very delicious. However, i was a bit disappointed when i asked for sauce like mayonnaise or ketchup and told they dont include any sauce. Pricewise for a similar price, comparable shops in area (like Mr. Cod) for fish and chips offer similar portions but also include free soft drinks, salad, and sauce. Shop was very clean and well presented and excellent customer service.

Food was delicious. Everything fresh and hot.

Overpriced for the portion size, also no salt and vinegar added as instructed. Disappointing service and quality.

Went on gluten free Tuesday! Brilliant. 2 coeliacs ate full fish n chips with no issues. Unfortunately the sausages were not gf and obviously we avoided the vinegar but otherwise this was a great takeaway experience for our family Def recommend

Absolutely awful. Will not be coming back. I paid £3.50 for a regular portion of chips - I was given small handful of chips, there can’t have been more than 10 or so chips in the portion. Taking the mick. You’re much better going to Top Table fish and chips or New city fish and chips which are both nearby for very generous portions at a much more reasonable price. We will not be coming back here and I urge you not to waste your money either. Fish was also disappointing and veggie burgers average. Feel cheated out of our money for a tiny portion of chips which weren’t very nice either. Not sure how they are getting away with this awful service and taking of money.

It is insane that despite the fact that Reading is nowhere near the sea, their fish is super fresh. For someone who grew up around seafood and the sea itself, it was shocker how smooth and moist the fish. It was flavorsome and had the best batter in existent. Completely overshadows the chips and sausage which were good in their own right too. Easily the best fish and chips I've had so far. The menu in the photos are outdated though so beware of that.

Miles better than Mr Cod, definitely go to Finn's if you're in the mood for fish and chips

What a let down I was so looking forward to some traditional english style fish and chips. We got home and OMG i have never been so disappointed - the chips were under cooked inside but over cooked outside! Is this even possible! The owner Jeff is so rude and does not take any ownership for cutting corners. I will go back to the cheaper chinese who are ten times better at this and actually Taste good with the service This awful meal cost me £30 and we couldn’t even enjoy it!

Biggest test for a chippy is the chips imo. If they can't get the chips right, then that's not a good sign. The chips we got weren't outright bad - my boyfriend actively disliked them though, I ate the majority - just seemed re-fried.. Like they were sat out, got cold, so just re-fried. They were brown versus, golden, and stale/hard, versus crispy and fluffy inside. Everything else we got was really good, which is a huge shame.. Even if it's quiet, with how cheap they are, there is never an excuse to re-fry chips.

Best fish and chips in Reading, fresh and crispy

I took a normal portion of cod and a large portion of fried potatoes, a curry sauce (the sauce was very good and seemed to be from Maggi). It was extraordinary. The one who served me was very kind. 5* with congratulations.

Fantastic fish and chips, fab selection and the best quality ive seen away from the coast.

Do not order on deliveroo. £15 for a cod the size of a chicken nugget and no warning to say you have to order chips separately. Very disappointed!

The cod was tiny, basically unbattered and soggy. The chips seemed old with no salt or vinegar. Not good

Exceptional customer care. Finns rang me up to check that I had meant to order only fish. (I thought I’d ordered chips as well, so was SO pleased that they checked.). Food was delivered quickly and was delicious.

Rarely in Reading these days but paid a repeat visit this evening. Did not disappoint: excellent pieces of moist, flakey haddock in a crisp batter and well cooked chips. Very good.

Very small fish portion through deliveroo, just didn't seem worth the money. I'm sure the portions used to be bigger.

Disgusting and inedible - under cooked fish, had to throw away. Rang and only advice was to contact ubereats, no offer of delivering an edible meal.

Poor service, women behind the counter almost blatantly ignored my partner and I and went to serve two other customers while we were waiting at the front of the queue. Not sure if it was her first shift. We decided to just leave which is a shame as the food is always amazing.

Ordered one thing with gravy and the staff gave me curry sauce. Strange. To add, staff were incredibly slow and touched my food after handling cash. Waste of my money

Too expensive, not worth paying £10.00 for, the quality and quantity certainly does not justify the cost.

Having recently moved to the area we wanted to find a decent fish and chip shop. After a few try outs with other shops we came across Finn's and we are so glad we did. The fish and chips are always cooked to perfection and not at all greasy!! The only thing that's changed from our first few orders is mint sauce has been added to the mushy peas the past few times now so i won't be ordering those again.

Was recommended to try this Fish & Chip shop, we tried it & never stopped going. The food is fabulous, the fish is outstanding, chip are lush, home made tartare sauce is excellent, also had curry sauce (gotta buy 2 as wife ate most of it lol), it's a very delightful plaice to go for dinner to take away, will definitely recommend to anyone who wants Fish & Chips. Finns is the best fish and chips shop in the land There is cool manager named Ben He's really helpful and funny with the customers and takes his work seriously. He treats everybody with kindness and respect. The food is great quality you can always be ready for a good meal at finns.

My latest experience of fish and chips from finns was very disappointing, half the chips were hard and overcooked and was not anywhere near as tasty as previous experiences. I was happy to pay that bit extra for the quality, although now the quality is not there I will be seeking an alternative.

Had good experiences previously but tonight very disappointed. Delivery turned up with missing chips. The chips that did arrive with the fish looked like they had been cooked several times over with not best potatoes.

Had nothing but praise for this place over the years but has totally gone down hill. Food quality nothing like it used to be and it is nowhere near value for money. £9.50 for basically a Mcdonald happy meal. Never again

After having exelent fish & chips - yesterday's was terible. Fish, was soggy and no crisp crunch. Chips, don't know what the hell happend there, asked for gavey and got a container of chips soaked in gravy it was mush. You want value fish & chips, try Tesco cafe, not the best but good & cheap.

a) Not going to make any fish puns, sorry. This is not the plaice. b) WOW !! I really loved this fish and chip shop. Best fish and chips I've had in a long time, and I've had fish and chips in quite a few "fancier" places. c) You straight away get the impression that Finn's puts the magic ingredient of love into what they do. From the paper bags, sauces and dips to the sheer work and effort on a Saturday night, everything is the best it can be. d) Despite the much higher quality than your average chippy, the prices are firmly chip shop prices. e) the dips and sauces are unforgettable, no warm sachet of unidentifiable watery goo here, the home made tartar sauce and chili and lemon dip taste like they are from a five star restaurant. f) Some people like their fish heavily battered to the point where its almost still uncooked; Finn's fish were lightly battered, and I think they are better for it. g) I know this place gets a lot of praise, but I think it deserves more. Certainly nothing comes close in Reading. h) A big thank you to Finns and their staff for their passion and hard work. They've elevated fish and chips to a higher level than just about any other take away food without elevating the prices. If there was an Oscars for this, they would truly deserve it 👏

Best fish and chips I had around Reading, however their customer service could use some improvement

First and foremost this isn't a bad chippy but it's certainly not a great one either. If you want a clean and tidy shop, nicely done out and modern then you have that. The location isn't great but you will get parked somewhere and hopefully you won't get a ticket as it's mainly residents permits close to the shop. On to the food and let's look at the price for starters. Fish and chips and I decided upon Cod was a whopping £9.25! For that money I expect nee demand top drawer quality. Unfortunately it's just not and here's why. I ordered my fish to be freshly cooked and was told all fish is cooked to order. This is no doubt true as I know that they cooked my piece for me. Incredibly though and I was really taken by surprise by this. The fish was and I have no doubt about this either by the way, a piece from a packet or box! As in a Young's or Bird's Eye or possibly a Harry Ramsdens frozen or similar. Yes it provides consistency, and yes the quality is fine and No they didn't admit that was the case because I didn't ask. However I am in no doubt about it whatsoever. How can I be so sure you might ask? Simple really it's not just that I've been eating fish and chips for 50 odd years and know all about fresh wet fish. It's also two much more relevant factors. One the fish is the shape, size and depth of all the processed brands I've already mentioned. All four pieces I viewed being placed in the holding display area ahead of being served were virtually identical in size and form. Secondly all processed brands add a certain ingredient to safeguard the fish that is contained within the batter. I know this as my love of fish and chips harks back to my childhood and having a close family friend that worked for Findus ahead of having their own chip shop for some years. To this day the preservative is still used in all frozen fish batters and it has a particular taste. That taste is unmistakable once you know it and you won't find it in any chippy that makes its own batter. So was the fish and chips good? Well it was okay, wasn't bad but certainly not in my opinion traditional fish and chips. I felt the chips were nothing special but perfectly edible none the less and crispy. The fish consistent and of a perfectly acceptable quality for a supermarket café or a Wetherspoons, but certainly not for a chippy claiming to be a bastion of traditional fish and chips. Would I go again? Honestly no I wouldn't because the price did not represent good value and if you think of a Sainsbury's cafe fish and chips this is pretty much what you are buying here. There are better chippies than this one not so far away that offer better value and are much more traditional in the fish they serve at least. Nice shop, clean, staff friendly but anything but traditional unfortunately.

Over fried fish and chips. The food was chewy and the chips looked like they had been fried in dirty oil. So many items on the menu were out of stock! This isn't our first time eating food from Finns's but definitely the worst and last time. Especially as my son vomitted during the night after dinner from Finn's. He had the chicken bites and chips, which were also over fried.

I had hubby and chips with kebab!! Never again, pure liquid! 5 year old had sosige and my 8 month old passed. I mean I say the experience was not good, actually the chips were good but slightly underdone however enjoy the crunch so not too bad overall so I give three stars total butt the curry sauce was served on the floor so no two remaining stars for Finn's, never liked Finland much anyway!!!!

The fish is good, nice soft batter. Not so thrilled on the chips though.

I will give the fish ten out of ten,the chips were very good but my score is seven out of ten,the mushy peas seven out of ten. Great service.

Fish and chips cooked to perfection.

Quality food is decent, however the trick is they serve good portion of chips but Fish size is Extra Small,in comparison to their prices.

Small portions, similar amount of chips but bigger box for 'large', unfriendly man and a general sense that it has pretentions above its level. Mr Cod is better, cheaper, doesn't have blurred boundaries on portions 🤣 hopefully you guys don't take this the wrong way, i did it to help! I heard Finn's being lauded as a brilliant fish and chips place, so i gave it a go last summer. I ordered 3 large chip boxes from the unfriendly man serving who seemed to act more like he was doing an incredibly important job like saving the UK from a huge terror threat, than what he was actually doing; shovelling greasy bits of fried potato into a box. I did find it quite amusing but in the end it was just a bit weird if I'm honest - i am always reeeaaally nice and friendly to servers etc! So it takes a lot to not get on with me. All it takes is a smile - just relax and be happy, and you'll have customers flooding back. Unfortunately, unlike Mr Cod where you are given a good amount, the large portion of chips was just the normal portion but in a bigger box. There was a lot of room left when i opened it. So much so i thought "ah that old trick eh!" - they saw me coming. I hadn't been fooled like that since bags of crisps in primary school 🤣🤣 The chips themselves were quite average, again Mr Cod was superior.

So I ordered 2 cod and 2 large chips with 2 portions of curry sauce. From uber eats when it arrived it was late and but hot so not all bad then we opened up our evening meal. And wow what a disappointment over cooked cod that looks like it should have been put back in the sea it was that small the chips were small not large that we orded. Then we opened the curry sauce and the tub was half full but the bottom of the tub was raised from the base so we both got just enough to dip.a chip in. Its amazing how much this place has gone down hill. Such a shame wont be ordering anything from there again. Poor food to expensive such a disappointment.

Without a doubt the best place to get your fish and chips! Fish was cooked to order, the batter was crispy but not oily. The chips were fhot and fluffy. All round great takeaway!

Food was great as always, the best I've had in the Reading/Wokingham area. Tried the panko prawns which I can definitely recommend!

Amazing vegan "fish" and chips.

Order Haddock & chips, the fish was awful it was so hard, tasted frozen and didn't even taste like haddock. The best part of the meal mushy peas. Would not recommend this chip shop anymore as it has definitely slipped on it's standard.

The best vegetarian fish and chips I have ever had, worth a try even if you usually wouldn't. Batter is great.

I like this place. Buried in a side road. No parking and a tight road. Food above average in price but quality. Portions reasonable but not most value for money. Quality, presentation, staff attitude, and menu range gets this place 4/5 from me. Loss of 1 star due to lack of parking and value as said. Would visit again having said that if I were in the area.

Finn's is the best fish and chip shop, in the Reading area, without a doubt. Their portion sizes are great, and the quality is great! Various other ones I find too greasy, but never had an issue at Finn's Ordered a few times through JustEat also, and the food comes quickly and hot, only issue I've had is not being able to order a drink with my meal, as I can with other take-aways in the area.

Ordered some food from this place and when I went to pick up my food a member of staff screamed at me to put my mask on despite me having a legal badge from the NHS showing that I was exempt. Horrified I point out that this is allowed as it’s a government rule, he said “well this is our rule. He was very aggressive. I will not be spending my money here anymore and if you are exempt for any reason his is not the place to come to, not only will they not let you in but they will abuse you until you leave. Disgusted!

Best fish and chips I've found so far in Reading and currently my go-to choice. Shop is immaculately clean and their covid rules make you feel safe. Fish is a good size and tastes moist and fresh and they always freshly cook their chips. Masala fish is to die for 😍 They also do a vegetarian alternative (banana root). Only minus point is you might find their range a little restrictive - no plaice, skate or rock on the menu that I could see, so don't go if you're looking for these. Prices on the high side, but as they say - you get what you pay for. They have a Facebook page rather than a website.

First time visit to this shop, didn’t have a mask on as I’m exempt, went in to have a look at the menu. The worker was very rude to me and my partner and had said “It doesn’t take 2 of you to order” and that the owner of the shop doesn’t believe in exemptions, you have to wear a mask in the shop! In a very high, rude tone. No customer deserves to be spoken in this manner - will not be returning

This place is amazing! Have to try the masala fish, great food, good location, friendly and quick staff. Good range from veggie to fish and meat. Good for kids meals. Highly recommended

But today me and my husband got it delivered by Just Eat, surprisingly the quality using delivery service is exactly the same! Great meal! Keep up with good work 💪

I love F&C and I know what is a good piece of fish. The price doesn't meet the quality. Chips are dry and hard and the fish is really soft.

Although they looked rubbish and could only eat half the chips as others were dry no potato in them lol the ones I ate were lovly , curry sauce was cold but again lovly when I heated up , was a bit miffed told me to wait out side understandable, no one arrived while I was there , called me in and had to wait inside while he dished it up ,
