Fini's Kitchen in Carlisle

We visited for the first time on Mothers Day and what a gorgeous hidden gem. The food was incredible, service friendly and environment really lovely. I can’t believe I’d never heard of this place before, will definitely be a regular visitor now! The perfect place to celebrate a special occasion!

Went here on a dinner date and have previously dined here for lunch and wanted to try the dinner menu. The venue, food, service and overall experience was exceptional, my partner had the king prawns and I had the steak. It was cooked and presented to perfection. We thoroughly enjoyed the starters, main, drinks, ambience, service and whole experience. Will definitely return and can’t recommend it enough!

Amazing location on lake - second time at this restaurant and it is truly outstanding- excellent food, excellent service and is well worth a 5 star experience- will now become our favourite restaurant in the Carlisle area- keep up the good work :)

Lovely venue, but food too expensive and not as good as they think it is. We ordered fresh bread and toast arrived, so presumed it wasn’t fresh, Steak for main with warm tomatoes, far too much watercress and plant pot of French fries, you’d expect a place like this to do their own chips. Peppercorn sauce was more like peppercorn gravy. I’m a lover of cheesecake but this has to be the Worst cheesecake I’ve ever tasted.

Booked into Fini's restaurant for our anniversary meal. I noted this on the booking and we were greeted with a congratulations and a card on the table (so thoughtful-thank you!) We had three courses each and were impressed by it all. The mussels were delicious and my husband enjoyed the vegetarian curry. Staff were friendly and well informed. We will definitely be returning. The only one thing I will say (but it's still 5 stars as it doesn't deserve less) is that there's only one veggie option so if we did return I'd need to check it'd changed so we didn't eat the same dish. Thanks again for a lovely evening.

Fantastic meal, friendly and attentive service and brilliant atmosphere. The fish was extremely fresh and full of flavour and the desserts were delicious. Highly recommend!

We had three courses with a lovely bottle of wine,. The crab starter is recommended and we had chicken for main. Staff are super attentive and friendly,. Chef clearly takes pride in their cooking,. Would definitely eat here again,

Telephoned up on sat 29 th October to book breakfast for Sunday 10am as had a child free night, was told off a lady you don’t need to book so turned up on Sunday 10am , to be told we are too busy with Sunday dinners!!!!! Absolutely terrible communication . Your either open for breakfast at 10 am On a Sunday or not!!! Won’t be giving you our money in future and everyone we know we have told.

A hidden gem. There’s no doubt, Fini’s is off the Beaton track. Far off. Carlisle doesn’t spring to mind when I list my favorite food destinations. But I’ve been foolishly overlooking this little corner of heaven tucked away down a hidden lane in the tiny village of Scotby, a mile or two east of Carlisle. An impressive building in its own right, it’s position nestled down in a green nook facing an impossibly picture perfect pond is a delight. The menu is a pleasure to browse and the wine list small but perfectly formed. Vegetarian and gluten free? Not an issue, the chef will make it work. Steak medium rare? Done to perfection. Perfectly cooked Sole? Coming right up. Each a every course and dish was a perfect example of how it should be. The service was extremely polite and always faultlessly professional. Quite simply the most pleasant evening out imaginable, I take my hat off to the team and count the days until I’m back.

We visited recently to celebrate a family birthday. The experience was great. Food was really special, accommodated well to gluten free and service was spot on!

I visited for a Sunday lunch with family and we were all pleased with how delicious the food was, attentive service and idyllic views. I would highly recommend eating here!

We decided to treat ourselves to a rare child free lunch somewhere nice. When we arrived I thought the lady wasn’t very welcoming. There was only us and another table of three there. I noticed that the other table were offered drinks almost immediately. The food was very good, but after our table had been cleared the other table was offered sweets or coffee, despite finishing after us. After she had served their coffee she seemed to disappear completely. After waiting until 2pm I eventually got up to find her hiding round the corner. I asked to see the dessert menu which she brought, only to return a few moments later to say the kitchen was closed. The website clearly said lunch time service was till 3pm. It was all a bit bizarre really, I felt like we weren’t wanted there. When we left she didn’t say thank you or good bye.

Having visited this little bistro in the past, though not really recently, we looked forward to a pleasant meal nicely served in an attractive setting, though the restaurant itself may have been very quiet on those previous occasions. How disappointing then to find very few other customers when we returned for a meal a few days ago and were served food which can only be described as awful. Hard in fact to imagine that what we ate had been prepared professionally since it was a mish-mash of poorly presented and badly cooked ingredients with only a basket of chips having any appeal. No water was offered, all the tables were bare on arrival and the lunch menu seemed decidedly odd, poor descriptions, no soups and no real salads but several variations on Eggs Benedict. Prices are those one might well expect in a smart and popular bistro but for the food we ate, were expensive. Service was pleasant enough but perhaps not as attentive as it should have been since we were not asked whether we were satisfied with our meal. We would certainly have said "no".

Had lunch 1st July as a family. It was really quiet and lovely weather so we were given the choice to sit out and in. We opted for in as the tables were quite small outside. We ordered the seafood platter for 2, a chorizo...

So lucky to have this lovely restaurant in our village. The menu is small but perfectly chosen making use of good quality local and seasonal ingredients. The wine list is equally small but good value and excellent quality!

We have found some wonderful places to eat around Wetheral over the last few months and this is just the latest (and one of the closest). It has been a B&B for some time but the building was extended a few years back and Fini's...

Stopped here for lunch recently. Had a good lunch, staff friendly and would recommend. Nice place and there is seating outside and parking.

We all enjoyed a very good meal and had exceptional service, just wished there had been more people to create a buzzy, vibrant atmosphere in the beautiful surroundings. Were quite conscious that our larger group, were making more noise just in normal conversation than anyone...

We visited this morning (Saturday) around 11am having stayed in a nearby premier inn. We had a delicious brunch sat by the window looking out at the pond. The service was good and the pancakes were excellent! We would definitely go back if we were...

A super visit - excellent food. Attentive hosts and great setting. Very helpful when we had difficulty getting there after the monsoon like rains, local floods and fallen trees. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again. Rooms very comfortable and spotless.

We had four different meals and three out of four were really, really poor. Please get better as we would love to come back.

We used this as a pit stop off the M6, as it’s really close and conveniently placed. We were thrilled we chose here. So pleased in fact, we decided to use it again on the way back the following weekend!

An unbeatable setting for a summer's evening out. Peaceful and intimate, willow-shadowed with ample space to enjoy the beautiful space outside and an intimate dining space which feels fresh and contemporary. Great background music and attention to detail, a perfect atmosphere. A menu with blessedly limited but spot-on choice and a steak deal which is particularly tremendous value for money. Very friendly and attentive service too, from the minute we arrived. We loved our evening at Fini's and would heartily recommend it.

I can’t believe that this hidden gem has been hear for six years....took my dad tonight for his Father’s Day treat was steak night...it did not disappoint food was fresh and cooked perfect and the wine was perfect with the meal...the settings around and inside are stunning

Only a couple of miles off the M6 but you wouldn't know it. Open all day , serving superb breakfasts such as Craster kippers, eggs benedict, smoked salmon, avocado on toast, and all the normal offerings. The quality of the dinners was excellent. Risotto and duck were so superb we stayed for another meal the next night too. It's a lovely relaxed place to eat and deserves to be full every night. The restaurant looks out over the lake. A perfect place to unwind with a glass of wine waiting for your meal. Lucky locals!

We ate several times at Fini's Kitchen having their Brunch and Dinner menus. We were never disappointed. For brunch we had dishes ranging from Craster Kippers to Mushrooms on Toast with a poached Egg and all set us up for the day.

We went to Fini's restaurant for the first time yesterday evening. We were very impressed with the layout of the restaurant and the veiw to the garden. Very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. Food arrived and was very nicely presented. It was one of the nicest meals we have had in a restaurant for a long time. Everything was so good and fresh. The portions were perfect too, leaving us satisfied and able to enjoy 3 courses without feeling full and uncomfortable. My steak was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The fish looked great and was very niceley cooked. Deserts were great, chocolate brownie and sticky toffee pudding and lemon possit all went down a treat. Give it a go, you'll be impressed. We will definitely dine here again.

Don’t believe what it says - this restaurant is open in the evening and I’m so glad it was. Off the beaten track in Scotby in a beautiful setting overlooking a pond. The food was Devine - especially the confit duck. Service was good and very prompt. A very good meal.

Came for lunch today with my elderly parents. Its a family favourite. Beautiful restaurant and gardens and always an interesting and varied menu. That's a given at Finis... But my point here is how fantastic Andrew the owner and his colleague Lindsey were today in helping with my parents who needed medical assistance. Above and beyond the call of duty doesnt cover it. Please go if you havent been before or please go again to be served by these fabulous people.

Lovely welcome at Fini's and super service throughout. The lunch was absolutely delicious...incredibly generous portions of the most tender of meat served with tasty veg. The chocolate brownie was the best I have ever had out - amazing. All six of us really enjoyed our meals and the ambiance. Super place xxxx

Fini’s kitchen is the name of the dining area at Willowbeck Lodge in Scotby near Carlisle, Cumbria, UK. It is a great place to have on our doorstep. The whole place has been refurbished over the winter and the decor is fresh and contemporary.

Fabulous lunch which came in a good time and we all enjoyed our lunch and posh chips. ( and of course the wine!0

Fish and Fizz night was excellent. Thick loin of cod in tempura batter washed down with Prosecco. Attentive service and reasonable price

You have to book an afternoon tea and they can cater for special diets. It's such a lovely setting so already you feel that you are having a treat. The tea was good. Liked that we could get a top up of tea at no additional cost (one place I visited recently tried to charge extra for this which is ludicrous - how much does a tea bag and hot water cost and you need tea if you're eating all those cakes!).

The owner and chef, Andy, is truly amazing in the kitchen. Stayed for three nights while hiking Hadrian's Wall and had amazing meals each evening. Property is small enough for personal interaction with staff and they were all very charming and accommodating. I will definitely try to stay there again if ever in Carlisle.

I visit for tea and cake with friends fairly regularly. Great brunch menu and yummy cakes. Lovely setting. Really comfy huge sofas.

Gorgeous lunch. We opted for the stone baked pizzas which were fantastic. Beautiful combinations; goats cheese with pesto and pear and a pulled pork with Stilton. The ladies who looked after us are just brilliant. Always attentive and warm and friendly. Thank you to the super talented chef. The location is stunning. We watched a mother duck and her ducklings on the pond and watched electric blue dragon fly's flitting over the water. We will be back again very soon.

The first thing one notices is the setting with the pond and beautiful Willow trees.

Booked for afternoon tea and had high expectations, what a disappointment. It was a glorious day and beautiful surroundings sat outside on the patio. Had booked tea with request for no butter on two guest sandwiches, when I we got there they were not clear on the request, however reiterated this and they appeared happy to comply. However to my dismay it was not possible to provide two rounds with no butter and one with. We got asked if we would all mind going without butter. Slightly bemused we agreed with this. Tea appeared but to my surprise no tiered cake stand to display the cakes and scones they all were piled on one plate with separate plate for the sandwiches. On examination of the cakes the seems extraordinarily like Icelands frozen desert selection,

Beautiful location but very upset with the food, birthday lunch with family, the 3 cheese rarebit didn’t state it had Stilton in it, maybe I should have asked but I’ve never heard of Stilton in rarebit ( such an aquired taste) i will however ALWAYS ask now what type of cheese is in a dish,I can cope with a little Stilton but it was so overpowering I couldn’t eat it, when The waitresses were told ( told two of them) they just took the plate away, no offer to remake without Stilton or not charge for the meal, all I ate was the coleslaw and vegetable crisps

Can here for a lovely lunch with my wife. Decided to have the Boar Sausage cassoulet and it did not disappoint, lovely warming food and as usual the staff are very helpful. Had a local beer and the raspberry frangipane tart to shar for desert, it was amazing. The setting is lovely and I even more so in the summer!

Had a lovely afternoon tea on mothering Sunday, could not fault the food service. However we were offered a 'top up' of procecco. Three of our party accepted and they were pored another glass (one was not actually empty).

Just had a really lovely afternoon tea which unfortunately ended with some very rude service over an item I queried on the bill! Left a sour taste in the mouth after an otherwise delicious meal.

While driving the M6, or any other motorway, why would you eat mediocre food in a crowded uncomfortable atmosphere when a ten minute detour will take you to such a delightful place? Came here for an early lunch and was really impressed by the inventiveness of the menu, the warmth of the welcome and the great ambience. Only complaint was the slow internet.

Great setting, great restaurant, friendly staff. Always go with my elderly parents and it is very accessible and they are made very welcome. Just go and see for yourself..

9 of us coming from various locations met up here for brunch. Had a delicious meal - the menu offered a great selection, something for all tastes. Comfy sofas, lovely outlook. Staff very accommodating and friendly. Couldn't have asked for more. And very easy to access off the M6/ A69.

Can’t fault anything about Fini’s Kitchen! Warm, welcoming and a lovely atmosphere. The menu was just right - a good few solid choices for starter, main and dessert; definitely something for everyone. The food was absolutely delicious - can particularly recommend the sticky toffee cake! Attentive service and also a beautiful setting. Thank you - we will of course be back when we’re next ‘up north!’

I visited here with my family the other week and I had a delicious meal and couldn't fault the place...

We have visited previously for coffee/cake or for lunch and we have never been disappointed so we decided to go...

This was our first visit and we received a great welcome. The menu was interesting and a little different, which is refreshing. When there was a slight mix up in the kitchen causing a delay in serving our main course, the manager informed us and offered a compensatory drink on the house, which was sensible, but we were quite laid back about it all and did not need to take him up on this offer. Thereupon, he insisted on serving us tasty nibbles on the side and we enjoyed these - a good touch!

Such a lovely place for brunch/lunch or evening meals. All food is homemade and served by people who know how to serve people!! Would recommend this place over and over!

So looking forward to this as it was an anniversary, setting was lovely looking onto the lake, afternoon tea was brought out late but that was fine because we were in no rush, when it came it was presented lovely, we got 1 and a half very small sandwiches each lively bread but only one chuck of chicken in each, cakes looked like Iceland frozen selection at Christmas with mini chocolate eclaires and mini cream slice half a small scone with jam and cream and couple of other mini cakes. Was disappointed in the quality considering the price and felt a bit rushed as they were setting the tables for evening meals at 3,30 and there was only us and another couple in there having afternoon tea. Didn't plan on having tea later but needed it. Pleased we went but wouldn't go again

This place is nice for lunch and has plenty on offer. I have rang a couple times to ask if they were open for Mother's day 2017 and I was told they weren't, I then booked elsewhere to find they were advertising Mother's day bookings - annoyed me a bit. Prior to that I'd asked to book on a Saturday evening but they weren't taking any bookings for that particular Saturday and each time its been the same lady I have spoken to and she's a bit short on the phone. If the food wasn't so good and the setting lovely it would really put me off. They are my only negatives.

I have visited Fini's kitchen twice in the last few months and I have thoroughly enjoyed it both times (as have the rest of the family!) My young daughter came with us most recently and our waitress was so helpful making up a little plate of food for her to enjoy with the rest of us. Lovely touch! My chicken salad was yummy and everyone's meals were tasty and plentiful. Excellent cappuccino too. The setting is just delightful! Unfortunately my husband and I live out of the area but when we visit we always request to visit here for lunch!

Found this place by chance - we wanted a relaxing venue with great food where we could have a girly catch up and we were not disappointed What a great place . Couldn't fault the food and the setting was lovely - just off the m6 and easy to access for us all. Service was fabulous and we were made to feel relaxed and at home - we stayed alll day - thank you to all the staff for making us feel so welcome. What a wonderful place - I will certainly be recommending you as a great stop off place :)

This is a beautiful setting. Our member of staff was delightful and the wood burning stoves with cosy settees were very welcome on a rainy day. The special I ordered on reccomendation of the waitress was slow roast lamb on a salad of greens. Unfortunately, the lamb was quite chewy and tasteless, the greens were absolutely delicious . My two friends had good meals. I did swallow some of the land out of politeness but left the rest. I mentioned this to the waitress who apologised and said she would mention it. Now, I hadn't realised one of my friends was treating us and paid so I was even more sorry as the meal wasn't inexpensive.Anyway, it is a lovely setting and I would return but choose carefully. Slow cooked lamb should be warm and fall apart, not cold and, well, scraggy.

Saturday late morning coffee with friends. Very relaxing setting. Lovely coffee and delicious carrot/chocolate cake.

Had lunch today with a friend and it was as good as ever. I had the chipotle chicken wrap and it was delicious. Staff as attentive as ever. With the blossom trees in bloom and the crocuses & daffodils out it was a beautiful setting, looking out over the pond. Really lovely place for lunch.

We go to Willowbeck a lot. It's a fabulous gem in a lovely setting & the food is always fantastic whether it's for breaky, brunch or lunch. I've not tried dinner .. yet .. The cakes are to die for - homemade, which makes ALL the difference. Yummo! We will be back again soon. Thanks Andrew!

Fini's has become a regular favourite. Fab new breakfast menu. Great place for an informal meeting as well as a catch up with family and friends. Coffee is good and nice, friendly service where you never feel rushed away. Has a great outside seating area and lovely view for when the Cumbrian weather is kinder.

I try to support local businesses and my friends and I had been to Fini's last year in the Summer and really quite liked both the location, the fabulous setting and the food, so we decided to give it another go. this time two of us were really disappointed with our choice and the service was very slow and rather offhand.It took so long for someone to take our order, I had to go and find staff to ask, then they were out of certain choices for lunch, which at 1 - ish was not good, so two of us opted for the Thai soup main course. When it came it was a clear broth with a lot of different almost raw vegetables in it which, for a main was not very satisfying and was hugely over spiced. I could hardly eat mine and the broth itself was very cool. Our friends had the salmon hollandaise and it looked very good.We will continue to go, but this time, it was very disappointing.

Delightful setting and warm relaxing ambience, coffees £3.10 for cappuccino which is a wee bit more than most places but would the view on to the pond be better elsewhere. A hidden gem

Absolutely scrumptious ,we had the salmon and sweet potato salad with sweet potato chips,yummy,then.......we had latte with Malteser crunch cake, that was calorific but yummy too

Stopped in en route to The Lakes for a coffee. The coffee for overpriced and average, there was as much atmosphere as a late night shopping experience in Tesco in the depth of winter.The manager looked like he would rather be at home. Won't be visiting again.

What a lovely location to enjoy lunch in the sun. Food was beautifully presented and served by extremely helpful staff. We couldn't have felt more welcome and comfortable. Yes the menu could offer more options for mains but isn't it true that "less is more" ? The quality of the food we had today answers that question and we will enjoy returning to enjoy your winter menu .

Just two miles off the M6 a great place to take a break from long journeys or just to met for an informal meet. High quality menu, reasonable prices and great cakes!

We found Fini's Kitchen because of the A-frame on the corner by the church in the village of Scotby. We were in the process of moving to live in the village. A delicious lunch was served in good time from the order being taken. It was attractively served and garnished - my chicken and bacon salad (if I remember correctly) was very tasty. The outlook on to the garden is very pleasant and if the weather had been a bit warmer we could have eaten outside - but it wasn't warm enough!!

Been meaning to visit for ages and finally got to try and it was well worth it. It was difficult to decide because there was such a range of delicious choices. I went for the seafood smorgasbord which was superb. Youngest son loved the home made fish fingers in the brioche roll, flatbread with pulled pork was quickly gone from hubby's plate and home made burger and chips were apparently "really nice". We will definitely be back!

Went for a brunch with my wife on a weekday morning. Was nice and quiet I had the Eggs Benedict with Salmon and a double espresso. Food arrived quickly and was good, the staff were friendly and had the weather had been warmer we would have had it outside by the pond. Will definately be back here again at some point!

My mother and I regularly meet for lunch or coffee at Finis kitchen and cannot recommend it highly enough. The food has always been first class, and whilst I agree there is maybe a short wait for food I personally would expect nothing less when the food is fresh, beautifully presented and always delicious, it's worth the wait! It's such a shame to read negative reviews as I would personally rate this as the best eatery in the area, please support this fantastic and unique business it's a hidden treasure!

Enjoyed a really nice lunchtime with daughter and grandchild at this lovely relaxing restaurant at Scotby, near Carlisle. Lovely food and very friendly service - enjoyed it all despite three 'ladies who lunch' whingeing and trying to diddle the very patient and tolerant owner out of a free lunch!

Fini's is set in it's own garden with a lake and weeping willows, moor hens paddling on the water. They have an outside decking area to sit out in suitable weather. The food they serve is excellent and the staff are friendly and very obliging. The whole look of the interior is beautiful, tastefully down in oak. Even the ladies toilet is luxurious.

Went had a pulled pork microwaved roll (I can tell) horrid cabbage concoction on the side . Not impressed took ages to come . Won't be back

Went today for lunch with friends. Ordered food at 11.30 and was told that our sandwiches wouldn't be made till 12 on the dot despite it being open and very quiet but we were initially happy with this. Food arrived at 12.30 by then we were sick of waiting but did so patiently. My £7 goats cheese sandwich literally had 2 10p sizes of goats cheese on it among a mass of chutney. Posh fries (£4) arrived after we had eaten and were undercooked and tasted and looked like MCdonalds fries! No tip left as service was non existent, won't be back!

Breakfast and lunch delicious. Frequented by guests at Willowbeck Lodge and locals who say there is nothing tocompare with this venue in Scotby

We had a bad experience at this admittedly beautifully located restaurant. I gave it one star for the idyllic setting with pond, weeping willows, tadpoles and outdoor dining area. It's such a pity the food and service were so poor...We arrived - 3 adults and 2 kids. It took the young waiter 20 mins to take our order despite it not being busy. We ordered sandwiches and it took a further 40 mins for the kids sandwiches to arrive. For a child's lunch I must say it was very disappointing - tiny sandwiches and a few vegetable crisps. By this time the restaurant was practically empty - maybe 6 people inside? The childs lunch did not fill my 8 year old at all, and had to feed him when we got home! After waiting well over an hour for the rest of the sandwiches I'm afraid we became very impatient as the waiter and then the chef kept informing us they were 'on their way!' After about 90 mins of waiting we upped and left, rather infuriated that we'd wasted a lovely afternoon and still hadn't eaten anything!! When we complained the chef was very apologetic saying the food was 'just coming!!' The lady ( owner I think?) stood the whole time just behind us at the till and offered no explanation over the 90 mins we waited, and was unfriendly and unwelcoming the whole time we were there. Our kids enjoyed playing in the grounds at least, but as owner of the establishment I'd have expected her to be more attentive and warm to her guests. This is such a shame as the location is truly stunning but I could not recommend this place to eat unless you want a long wait and poor service.

Well it started with a rather unwelcome greeting, we had booked but when we arrived we said hello mentioned we had booked and the lady at the counter hardly ackowleged us and it seemed couldn't find our reservation. We where seated and then waited another 19 minutes for our oder to be taken. Their where only 6 other people in the place. Three ladies arrived with their elderly mum, they obv hadn't booked and despite large unreserved table for 6 behind us they where turned away. We ordered and our food arrived rather slowly for 2 sandwiches. The atmosphere was totally flat, service lack luster no-one told us what the specials where and although the food was off good standard I will not be going back. I had creme bruleee which was over sweet and had split. Poor service, despite being vv quiet and although I have been twice before and always impressed with the food I will not be going back.

A somewhat restricted menu but there should be something for everyone with daily specials too. I'm not a fan of platters - bring back plates! - but the selection of food with the fish platter was good. Things to change perhaps - the rock hard butter, the lack of a welcome.
