Walked out in at 5 o’clock door was open the sign said open no one there until we shouted and someone Ridley shout we’re closed and said if we didn’t see the sign this place clearly said shuts at 6 pm

Very friendly very chatty always concerned about his customers an eating experiance an nothing is to much for him. Food is sooo yummmyyyy. Called in today..22.03.2024.iv been in agony last 4 days with toothache...he was so caring an considerate he gave me some cloves to put on my tooth i just wanted to cry at his kindness.alas to say managed to get dentist appointment.his food is yummy and i was so hungry.but coudnt eat it all coz of my problem.even got a hug on way out.made me teary on way home.caring guy great food.get in there.you wont be dissapointed folks.

Take away or dine-in. Large portions, crispy batter, fresh fish, well cooked chips and home made tartare sauce. Welcoming and friendly staff. Highly recommend this venue. Didn't realise at first that the side door is for take away and the front door is for dining inside.

What a great experience! The head chef (and I presume owner) was incredibly warm and welcoming! He couldn’t wait to serve us his incredible fish and chips; he recommended we add mushy peas. Never turn down chef recommendations so we had those too. Food was crisp, fresh, delicious, and made to order. I’ve had fish and chips my whole life, granted in America, but this was the BEST I’d ever had! Tasted like the fish was caught just that morning! My mouth is watering just typing this..

I work in Carlisle City centre and often come here for a quick lunch, never disappointed. I usually opt for a takeaway rather than sitting in.

Had a lovely lunch with my friend, she had the fish and chips and the fish was huge and so tasty, I had the seafood platter and chips and was a lovely selection of different seafood. The gentleman serving and taking orders and everything in between was brilliant, so helpful and kind and a real asset. Will definitely be back, nice to have home cooked style food in a nice casual unpretentious atmosphere, would definitely recommend.

Delicious vegan fish and chips made to order - the first time I've had a proper fish and chips in over 10 years of being veggie. It was my first time here but the staff were clearly familiar and chatting with regulars which was nice to see. Lots of plants too! I will be visiting again.

I was Christmas shopping with my lovely husband and starving. We called into Mamma's fish shop as it smelled so good outside. I had scampi and homemade chips and my husband chose the Seafood platter (squid rings, prawn cutlets, cod loin chuncks) the modest interior does not do the standard of food justice. It was fresh and so tasty I will definitely be back. I highly recommend, you will not leave hungry. The owner who cooks comes out and checks on every plate. He really cares about the standard of his food. Lovely tasty experience 😋

I have coeliac disease and saw the poster for gluten free fish and chips. They were absolutely delicious. The owner also came to the table and wanted to double check condiments were gluten free for me. Before I even needed to ask the gluten free vinegar was handed to me! My boyfriend is Vegan and really enjoyed his food as well. The owner came to check how things were at the end of our meal too!

I experienced the most unbelievable act of kindness today and I want to shout out loud about it! Hubbie and I took my Mom and her friend on a day trip to Carlisle by train. We had a little stroll around the Christmas market and went to Mammas fish and chip cafe for something to eat. Hubbie and I had been there before and remembered the owner being really friendly and the food was lovely. Again neither disappointed and we had a lovely meal and banter with the owner, Ahmed. I’d also noticed how he helped an elderly lady with her money, called her a cab and gave her two little pot plants to take with her. Almost every review on Trip Advisor comments on the owner just as much as the food. My Mom wasn’t feeling too good so we decided to get a taxi back to the train station and I asked Ahmed to call us a taxi which he did. My Mom asked for a bottle of water to take with her and Ahmed gave this to her and refused to charge her. We waited outside for the taxi but it didn’t arrive so Ahmed called them and they said they were on their way but would be another ten minutes. We were now at the point that even if my Mom were up to it we wouldn’t make it to the station walking it so I was getting a bit nervous about missing our train. The next minute Ahmed rushed up to us and said I’ll get my car! He had left his cafe and got his car to take us all to the station. We made it with just a few minutes to spare. I was and am truly overwhelmed by this act of kindness. Words can’t express how grateful we all are. Ahmed you’re an everyday hero and I hope that life delivers you everything you deserve. If you are in Carlisle please pay Ahmed and his cafe a visit. People are so lovely when you’re open to it 💕

Spotted this little fish and chip cafe on a visit to Carlisle.Very friendly owner and helpful.Two of us had fish and chips and one just chips.All served with peas,mushy peas or beans or salad.Also had a pot of tea and a latte.Plus bread and butter.Nothing was too much trouble.They did a pensioner's deal as well.Batter was lovely not all soggy and excellent chips.Recommend this cafe and we will definately vist again when in the area.

Popped in for lunch. Fish and Chips. Quite enjoyed it. Chips good. Small portion of chips. Nice sized haddock (was expecting cod but haddock is fine). Marks deducted for not draining the fish very well. Held it upside down and the oil poured out. Had it been rested for three mins, this wouldn't be a problem. Would visit again. Nice little restaurant.

I visit this restaurant whenever I visit Carlisle, excellent service, value food, and friendly staff.

A post remembrance day parade warm up. I chose the small portion fish & chips (cod) with mushy peas and a pot of Earl Grey tea. The staff were welcoming, polite, and efficient. Every table was checked in with by the boss, who clearly cared about his patrons' experience. The food was perfectly cooked, very tasty, and the portion size was perfect for me. There's the option of eating in as well as the traditional takeaway, located around the side of the building. Varied menu with gluten-free option available. There's plenty of seating indoors with an outdoor option that just wasn't for me today. There are well-kept toilet facilities upstairs. It was definitely worth a visit, and it was such a treat on a cold Sunday afternoon.

I am so glad I stopped in here on my way through Carlisle. Chef Ahmad is such a welcoming and generous soul, and he fries his fish to perfection! I'll be going out of my way to come back in the future.

This place doesn’t look like a chippie when you walk in but don’t be deterred it’s the real deal. The fish is top quality, the batter tasty and the mushy peas excellent. Good portion size and well priced. Very friendly staff too. Highly recommend

We went in do I could get the gluten free fish in batter as advertised on their window display. It was cooked fresh so I had to wait for a while but it was worth it. The fish was fresh and the batter very cripy. I was also offered GF vinegar which was a nice touch.

Absolutely superb gluten free fish, super crispy batter, really tasty and pearl white, perfectly cooked cod inside. Literally, best fish I've ever had and that includes the pre-gluten free days. Been more than once now too, 100% consistent.

Called in at 5.15, although owner was due to close at 6.00 and I was last customer of the day. Felt guilty but I was made to feel welcome and was served the most fabulous fish and chips. Worked out that had probably eaten there 20 years ago and it was still great.

We needed fish and chips for an open morning we were doing. We pre ordered, all was ready on time, well packaged, the service (by Ellis and Ahmed) was fantastic. Value and portion size was amazing!

We went to Mamma's Restaurant 3/9/23 for lunch around 1:30pm. We ordered 2 senior citizens lunches, which consists of small fish and chips, mushy peas a slice of bread and butter and a pot of tea. The pot of tea arrived within a few minutes. Our son joined us and ordered Scampi and chips a portion of gravy and a can of pop. His meal and drink arrived within 10 minutes and he began to tuck in, ours had not yet arrived. A further 5 to 10 minutes later my wife's fish and chips arrived and she tucked in, mine had still not arrived. When my wife was half way through her meal, mine finally arrived, at which point I asked if we could have the bread and butter which was part of the meal deal, we waited and my wife had actually finished her meal when we asked again for the bread and butter and were told it was on its way. We waited, the same member of staff who assured me the bread and butter was on its way then brought and served the meals to the table next to us. I asked again for the bread and butter, which finally came after about another 5 minutes. By this time my wife and son had finished eating and I was almost finished. The food was good, but the service was absolutely atrocious and at a cost of almost £37 for the 3 of us, is unacceptable. Unfortunately I will not eat here again and would not recommend to anyone I know to do so, after our experience.

After bustling in the door with three months worth of luggage, the team greeted me with the warmest of welcomes. My order arrived promptly, presented in a neat brown box. The fish was perfectly cooked and the chips were in abundance. If you find yourself looking for a portion of Fish and Chips in Carlisle, look no further. Mammas will look after you.

Visited from out of the area and we all enjoyed our meal of fish and chips. Excellent service and our waiter was very polite and helpful. The chef was very attentive and came and asked us if our meal was alright. Ten out of ten and we will return again when we visit Carlisle.

Lovely little fish and chip restaurant. Very glad we found it, as was our little dachshund - who was luckily given a bonus treat by the owner! Great fresh food, the fish was nice and moist, the batter crisp. Good chips. Definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting good food at good value for money.

Lovely plate of freshly cooked fish & chips at a good price for Senior menu. Delicious batter on fish. Young staff member was so respectful, hard working and a credit to the team. We will definitely be back when we are in the area again.

We arrived having traveled up from near Portsmouth to find one person finishing a meal and the owner looked a little shocked to find 10 people walk in and sit down. We quickly realised this was our fault for not researching enough as he closed at 6 and it was 5 past 6. Then he massively went up in our opinion as he did not ask us to leave but fired up the friers again. What followed was delicious fish and chips for most of us - 2 x chicken salads that were also greatly appreciated - chicken nougats and chips for our youngest grandson who ate them all which did surprise us as he normally only eats french fries. A fantastic experience and we can't thank the owner enough - my only regret as being so tired I forgot to ash his name.

Just had fish and chips here with my two young boys and it was excellent. Fish delicious, staff very friendly and lovely with the boys, would highly recommend.

Walked in off the street and welcomed by a young waiter who seemed very knoledgable about the menu. Cod, chips and peas were very good. No complaints. The manager came out and said hello. What more can you ask for?

I do use the fish and chip shop when I'm in town it is a family business being in Carlisle for a long time the owners are very friendly and help you out with the food ask them and they'll tell you or it is like in go to the shop at the back which is fishing chips and all different kinds of stuff for carry out okay that's all I'm going to tell you I enjoy it when I'm there you get a good crack with the owners

I must say that this was probably the best Gluten Free Fish and Chips I have ever had. I was given a choice of cod or haddock before being presented with a freshly cooked meal and good sized portions presented by the friendly and helpful owner. I knew I was in safe hands when he brought over a bottle of gluten free vinegar before the meal arrived. My husband had gluten containing fish and chips and he was also singing the praises of his meal. If you are in Carlisle, I would certainly recommend this establishment especially for Coeliacs👍

Was passing through Carlisle and really fancied fish and chips. Stumbled into this place and the brother serving was a true gentlemen. The fish and chips was honestly one of the best I've had. The tartar sauce better than the stuff in most places! Thank you sir! I asked if same oil was used for the meats. The gentleman instantly understood my dietary requirements (unlike most places).

Small but perfectly formed. If I could rate it higher I would. We had a very warm welcome and the food and service did not disappoint. Fish and chips were freshly made to order and the whole family enjoyed their food.

After a day out with my son. We went to mammas for tea. Although the owner closed at 6pm and we didn't arrive until 6.05pm, he opened his doors and said that he would cook for us. As long as we didn't mind waiting while he cooked. What can i say the wait was worth every second. I offered to take it away so he could close up. He wouldn't have any of it he laid a table and made myself and my son feel comfortable and welcome. When the food arrived i was astounded at the quality and freshness of the meal. Hands down the best batter i have ever tasted. Flaky fish, perfect chips. Nothing was left apart from a tip and a guarantee to return. I can honestly say i have never enjoyed fish and chips as much. A feeling that my son agreed on. Thanks again and we will see you soon

Brilliant fish and chips, I have to have gluten free. And food was not greasy and ate every bit. My wife had normal fish and she ate every bit of it. Normally in other chip shops if I can get gluten free I never Finnish...

We visited this fish and chip place in April this year..ordered Gluten free fish and chips for the family...they took around 15-20 mins to cook so we went for a walk round then came back and they were ready freshly cooked.The owner was a lovely man and he even made some free chips for our 5 year old as she normally shares ours.The food was excellent and we had no issues with any cross gluten contamination as we were great after eating them.Would highly recommend for gluten free fish and chips and we will be going back when we are in carlisle.
