Yo trabajo cerca y he estado comprando almuerzo aquí por algunos años.

I was impressed with the look of this little outlet in York Station. I picked a Chicken and Tarragon roll. Unfortunately the roll was stale and I then noticed it was prepared on 13/10/19 with a use by date of 16/10/19. There were 3 tiny pieces of chicken the rest was stale bread. Unfortunately I was on the train and could not return to complain.

Quick stop for coffee while for friends. Decided to grab a muffin as hadn’t had breakfast. Service with a smile it wasn’t. Halfway through muffin, noticed the expiry date was end of previous day. Hey, it’s fat and sugar - what could go wrong? However, £5 for a coffee and an out of date muffin is a bit steep. And for that money you could look moderately happy to see a customer.

Had a some time to fill around dinner time on leaving York to catch a train. Impressed by F&U GF options. Checked the website prior to journey. Open until 8p.m. Got there just before 6p.m. - told they were closing. Left high and dry, nowhere else to eat but a very shabby and no genuine GF options Costa. Wrote to F&U "customer services". They informed me that there was a sign on the door saying they were closing at 6p.m. at this time of year. 21st century customer care - why don't these complacent brands use the internet effectively. I think we know why - customers are just an income stream, therefore they don't have to think too hard about them.

The food was so good we changed our minds and had puddings as well. Quiet atmosphere (only 2/8 tables occupied on a Saturday night) which allowed a great chatty meal. As it was so quiet we were concerned about how good the place was, but it must be York's best secret dinner venue. Food was healthy, fresh yet substantial. We will be back. 3 courses for under £20. cocktails and wine bumped up the price of course.

I love coming here on trips to York for work. The coffee is great and the chocolate brownies are brilliant, so much so that I take them away for friends. However, there are only 2 or 3 seats inside, which are sometimes taken up by the management staff. It is therefore not very welcoming to customers when they seem to be running the business around you, having loud conversations so they can be heard over the music. There must not be space in the building for them to have a desk. This really is the only downside - the food and drinks are brilliant. Hopefully it will warm up soon so sitting outside is possible!

Visited here today whilst changing trains. Was freezing on the station so good to have somewhere to sit inside that isn't the generic 'on the move' food. All the food is advertised as natural and whole and staff couldn't of been more polite or happy to see me. I got the pulled pork wrap which was as little bland, could of done with a little more of the chutney that was at the end of it. The yogurt brownie pot however was very tasty and I'd get that again. All in all food was as expected for a restaurant/cafe outlet at a train station i.e. a little pricey but better quality than the usual offerings and quickly delivered. Worth crossing a platform or two to get to when traveling through the station.

Being a Coeliac we are regular diners but the Tapas evening was a bit of a disappointment. There had been a "problem" with that day's delivery and one of the desserts has a 'bought-in' inedible Cherry Bakewell tart included, I think they realised their mistake. Also Patatas Bravas are not boiled potatoes with a tomato dressing. Overall the equivalent of 3 courses for £19.95 is very good but it could have been excellent

Filmore and Union is heavily influenced by vegan food and uses vegan ingredients when possible. This had mixed results. I had the best risotto I've ever had outside Italy. Outstanding. My wife had wonderful gnochi. We had only gone in for a light meal but and hadn't expected to have a dessert - but the initial experience was so good that we both went for their strawberry cheesecake. Sadly the restaurant's enthusiasm for vegan ingredients left flavour and texture out of the recipe. Such a shame. However there seemed to be so much good about Filmore and Union that we went back for coffee and a bit of cake the next morning. Back to brilliant!! The espressos were also as good as we have ever had outside Italy and the carrot cake muffin was superb - moist, tasty, lovely texture. Service was good - but a mistake to try to justify the disappointing taste of the cheesecake on its vegan ingredients. If it don't taste good don't do it. Its sort of eclectic in its approach but clearly in trend and the Filmore and Union chain is expanding rapidly. If F&U can bring the taste we experienced in the risotto, gnochi and carrot cake into all their menu then they will be hugely successful. We will certainly be be back.

I visited again at the end of August and in October and asked for a small cappuccino. I knew they did this size. On both occasions the member of staff pointed to the bigger cup. I had to repeat again I wished to buy a small cappuccino. This was duly served.Naturally they want you to buy the bigger size at £2.60 presumably giving them more profit. So why sell the smaller size at £1.95? Strange, given that the smaller size is not listed any more in the overhead menu.Having said that, surely I'm not the only one who wants just one shot and a moderate amount of milk and will always look to find a coffee shop that meets my requirements.

Wandering York at 7.30pm on a busy Friday night in high tourist season, how do you choose where to eat? Luckily we chose Filmore & Union. The entrance looks as if it is only a delicatessen, but there is a good little restaurant upstairs. The ambiance is warm and modern. There is piped music but it isn't too overbearing. The service is very friendly and helpful. I stared with broccoli cakes with a mango and pineapple dressing. Delicious. My wife had tomato soup which she said was as good as her home made (praise indeed). For mains my wife had sea bass on a bed of kale, seaweed, honey roasted chicory and curried yoghurt. The curry wasn't too overpowering and allowed the other flavours to come through. However, the portion of sea bass was a bit small. I had seared tuna sashimi with sweet pimento peppers, pak choi and a tamari dressing. Again delicious. We shared a pak choi and bean salad. With a couple of glass of wine the bill came out at under £50 before a well deserved tip. This was a fortunate choice and left us smiling. Our waiter said that this is a small chain, and we shall certainly look out for them elsewhere.

We're all used to having little choice and little merit with food purchased at railway stations. But this place is amazing and I so wish they spread further south. I need gluten free food - which further limits choice at some of the bog-standard eateries. I was standing staring at the menu and the guy behind the counter asked if he could help, talked me through the options and even offered me samples. I don't generally go for the veggie, healthy stuff and can be very turned off by it, but I ended up with a mug of cauliflower and lemon soup, and a bag of kale crisps with cacao and ginger. As I say, I don't normally do this sort of stuff but they were both absolutely amazing. I know where I'll be heading next time I'm in York station. So don't be turned off by the thought of it, give it a go and you too may be amazed at what you've just eaten.

We stopped off here while we waited for our train home. We had intended to visit the restaurant in the city during our stay but we didn't get around to it. However, remembering that there was a good option on gluten free we thought we'd give it a go. Although it's right on the platform area it's surprisingly bright, clean and welcoming. The staff knew their menu very well and were great at offering alternatives to items that were not available (it was near the end of the day and as the food is fresh there's not stacks of it sitting around being kept warm) 2 of us had bagels and they were freshly prepared and delicious, excellent smoked salmon, fresh spinach, salted beef, gerkins - lovely. One of us had the tagine of the day, hot, fresh, totally home made and full of flavour - not words usually attributed to gluten free offerings. The broccoli and mint soup was also delicious. Although more expensive than we would usually choose it was well worth it for choice (especially g/f), portion size, freshness, great friendly service and nice clean environment.

Incredible food and service! This was our first time at the Red Lion, we called in on a Wednesday lunch time as we were passing through the area, we expected decent pub grub, what we got was nothing short of the best lunch we’ve ever eaten! The portions are huge (they’re more than happy to give you boxes to take your leftovers home) the meat is very well seasoned and tender and the chips are crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and seasoned perfectly - no need to add salt and pepper here! We will be back and we will be telling all our friends and family this place is worth the trip out … what a find! :)
