Staff were friendly and helpful. Because of covid, the dining room is currently only available to hotel guests. The restaurant food and service were excellent. The staff do not go into the bedrooms during a stay and trays and lists are used for requests and replacements. The bedside lamps were too dim to read by but were replaced on request. There was no hair dryer in the bedroom but in the room there was a form to tick for special requirements and a hair dryer was included on the form. The hotel is about five minutes drive from Lyme Regis, where the Old Mill Shop next to a mill stream is particularly worth visiting. The hotel is currently fully booked for two weeks ahead.

We ate here as stayed in accommodation close by, and had a very enjoyable meal. The pork dish was excellent, succulent meat, and the burger and chips/salad was also very tasty. Children are well-catered for with homemade mac n cheese, and some very tasty homemade chicken goujons. Our kids were quite content. We ate in the bar/grill side of the restaurant, just in case the kids got a bit noisy, there's a lovely view out of the window there across the hills. Good service.

Been meaning to try out this restaurant for a while, finally went in on spur of the moment and really pleased we did. Had a lovely lunch. Soup was delicious, steak was done to perfection and when they say chunky chips, they mean it. The meals leave you feeling nice and full. I look forward to taking my mum for afternoon tea at some point in the very near future.

So. My husband and I were staying in a holiday let on the hotel grounds with our Pomsky. We decided to use the restaurant for Sunday dinner. I am so glad we did and here is why. We got to the bar area about 19:00 for our table that was booked for 1930. We decided to have a few drinks first. The lady behind the bar was really friendly and we chatted about our day and how our doggie had played in a mud slide ( my dog is the daughter I never had and is very indulged) To her credit, she looked at the photos of Thia with interest which must have been boring as there were a few!!! She took our order. Now. I have to make a big thing about the menu. It’s a massive positive. Due to surgery and treatments that have left me with zero tastebuds and food allergies, I was very excited to see Gluten Free, Dairy free, Nut warnings and other examples. I struggle sometimes to find anywhere that I can eat without sounding like a bore let alone enjoy it. The restaurant was beautiful. We weren’t rushed and there was a good gap between courses which people just don’t appreciate. There really is nothing worse than feeling rushed. It gave us lots of chat time. I had the Gluten free pork chop which was divine. My hubby had salmon which he thoroughly enjoyed. For desert I had gingerbread pudding and hubby had cheese platter which was amazing! Lots if cheese and biscuits which was well worth the price. Normally we never order it because it’s usually a silly slither of two bits of cheese but this was above and beyond. The bill was really reasonable considering we had lots of wine and the food was first class. To sum up; Friendly staff Good wine Lush food Go. You won’t be disappointed Fabulous!!!!

We ate here on a Sunday as most restaurants in the area are closed. The bar was very quiet and the bar menu quite small. We both had the butterfly chicken and skinny fries with salad. Very tasty and not too heavy a meal. The service was excellent and the hotel looked nice. There was some building work going on outside to construct a patio. I imagine it will be very nice to eat there once that is finished.

We were on holiday for my Daughters 30th birthday and she had seen this place and wanted to go there. We called in the day before to check it out and it seemed nice. The menus were very limited which we thought may be a problem for some of our group, but they wouldn't book tables in the bar only the restaurant, so we booked the restaurant. On the evening we ordered the children's food and were waiting to order for the adults but one of the party didn't like anything on the restaurant menu. We asked if it was possible for just one of our party could order off the bar menu and there was an emphatic no, so we decided to just have the children's meals, they then seemed reluctant to bring out the kids meals but did eventually. We didn't get to see the restaurant or the chef but it was obviously too posh for us.

Super duper lunch, veggy option for those hat required it, plaice fillets for the fishy ones and delicious parma wrapped chicken for the remainder. Plenty of veg in dishes placed on the table all by a friendly young lady who was very competent.Puds of semi fredo, creme caramel or a fab ginger pud with ice cream.Thoroughly enjoyable, well priced and all served with a smile.I well and truly recommend this hotel/ restuarant to dine, stay, or drinks on the terrace as well as the lovely afternoon scrumptious tea which I have succumbed to last summer. Many thanks for such a lovely lunch experience.xx

We decided to book here due to the Gluten Free options and also being local to our holiday let. Upon arrival we walked into the main lobby of the hotel and could see that the bar area was busy. We waited patiently while the waitress nodded that she will see to us momentarily. As a party of 3 adults and 2 children we felt as though we were standing in the way and so decided to stand at the bar. The waitress explained that she would give us our menus so we could choose our dinner in the bar area and they would call us into the dining room when our table was ready. She asked us to take a seat while we chose from the menu, only to see that clearly was not enough room for us all to sit together?! It was a guest and her partner that told us there was another room next door known as the 'snub' where we could sit. Thankfully we didn't wait long for the waitress to take our drinks order. She promptly returned with our drinks and we ordered our food. We waited approximately 15mins to be called into the dining room. It is a very beautiful room. Decorated nicely with lots of natural light pouring through. I requested my gluten free roll only for it to arrive warmed on the outside and slightly frozen in the centre! I decided this wouldn't kill me so waited a few minutes for it to defrost fully...The window sill to the side of me had a dead wasp! Not pleasant! However the rest of the window looked cleaned?! Our food arrived in good time and tasted good. Portions were generous and cooked very well. My guinea fowl could have done with more seasoning and flavour. The side accompaniment of seasonal veg was lovely and crisp to the bite. Our bill was rather expensive - £140 with a £7 tip for 4 starters, 4 mains and 2 desserts without wine and 2 alcohol beverages! Not sure if we would go again when staying in the area?

Went with friends for a supper in the bar. All started well, with friendly greeting and drinks order. Ordered 4 meals, when the plaice fillet arrived it was so dried out and cold, we had to send it back.We were offerred another "quick replacement" which we declined and went for a safer alternative. The problem this caused was that we didn't all eat together. We asked for a refund which the front of house lady responded said could do nothing anything about. Needless to say we never saw her again. The owner was later in the bar and he too made no apology for any inconvenience caused or to see if we had enjoyed our meal. We were really hoping for a great local night out, however were very disappointed. We won't eat there again or recommend to our friends. Very disappointing and will hit return business. The point is that if one orders a coffee and orange juice that costs £4.10 for a bitter Americano and juice from a carton, then what will the lunch be like. So we gave it a miss. Their Special Diets menu had an amazing amount of choice for him and they also had dairy free and a great range of vegetarian and vegan options as well. The hotel itself was amazing but it is worth going to the Hotel just for Dinner as every dish I had was as good if not better than some top London restaurants I’ve eaten in. Really tasty flavour combinations without too much fuss and pretention and generous portions! I particularly liked the Sea Bass with a Ginger and Soy dressing with the most incredible herby rice, and the dairy free gluten free Rice Pudding made with coconut milk and served with a delicious berry compote and vanilla syrup.

From their web site you would expect something close to a fine dining experience and to be fair the dining room itself does not disappoint in either its decoration, furniture or ambience. However it is all downhill from there! The food itself is poor yet the prices are not - £17 for a very average rack of lamb with over cooked vegetables and dry dauphinoise potatoes. Mind you, we should have guessed from the menu which is similar to a Harvester, when you see breaded butterfly prawns (that turn out to be straight from the freezer to the deep fat fryer) or a meringue nest with cream and fruits. A three course meal for two with wine and gratuity (the staff were OK) cost the thick end of £90 but in our opinion the true value excluding wine is nearer £30. Save your money and avoid the Fernhill for lunch or dinner.

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. St Austell Brewery, this is not one of your best examples. Service is hit and miss, at points, really not good. The front of house staff seemed more worried about getting their own dinner over the diners. Chefs up and down to the bar consistently. Food is average at best. Be careful what you order as they may just change some of the elements of the dish and hope you don't notice!
