Fat Hippo Birmingham in Birmingham

Visited the Fat Hippo in Birmingham with my 32 year old daughter on a Thursday evening and the place was very busy. My daughter had organised it prior to us visiting the Symphony hall. Table was booked for 6pm ( you need to book!) and although we were a few minutes late due to the train we were shown promptly to our table. Staff were friendly and efficient. Restaurant was clean and well presented in a sort of shabby chic style. We both had the American burger, I had skinny fries and my daughter had the dirty fries with a side of deep fried gherkins and a couple of Pepsi Max. After a short wait, our food arrived and it was fabulous, burgers were quality, juicy and freshly cooked, fries were crispy and hot. The burger came on a fresh brioche bun with 2 patties, pickles, cheese, mustard and ketchup and I would not have changed anything, it was delicious. At roughly £20 a head it isn’t cheap, but quality does not come cheap. Toilets were spotless which was another bonus as I think there is nothing worse than eating your meal and then finding filthy toilets.. it makes you wonder about what you can’t see. Will definitely be visiting again. Highly recommended

The Freddie’s fingers are the best chicken tenders I’ve had in a long time. Unreal burger too and the waffle fries were cooked perfectly Staff were super friendly and Ahmed was great.

Great resturant chicken and beef burgers were amazing. Really enjoyed it. Some of the staff didn't have a great attitude towards service other than that fod was amazing. Totally worth it. Also tater totes are great here

We went as a Group of 4 people, there was a wait of 10min for a table and if I remember correctly I ordered a Fat Hippo Burger and Cheese balls as a starter. The burger was good, the patty was moist and flavorful, bun held it all up, Good. The cheese balls while a bit heavy, a mistake on my part was good regardless, it was a big tho per cheese ball, bit heavy per bite, that was the only downside for me.

We had a table of 12 here today and the food was so good! You can always rely on a fab burger here, I don’t think there any such thing as a bad menu item here. Ama was our waitress and she was lovely and helped us have a great meal before our concert later :)

We popped in for a bite to eat late one Wednesday evening. Although it was near closing time, the staff were friendly and welcoming. It was very clean and tidy and the 'industrial' decor was a quirky touch. The burgers were delicious, with juicy patties and fresh garnish. I really appreciated the chunky slices of pickle – a far cry from the thin, weedy efforts you get at Maccies! Will definitely be back to try some of their other offerings.

Great group meal, Hippo hour meal (burger and 2 tenders) including a drink was great deal. The burger was tasty, tenders juicy and Cider fruity!

OMG. Fat hippo is absolutely FANTASTIC. The food was outstanding. Really really good. You get exactly what is described. Roll up your sleeves and get messy GOOD food. Tgeres a good choice if beers too. The service team are also lovely. Attentive without being too in your face. The place is clean. Love it. Would give it 6 starts if I could.

Solid place to eat. Food is good and maybe one of the best burgers in Birmingham. Convenient place to get too and the atmosphere and service has always been good. I would recommend booking.

Sadly have to rate this 1 star, me and my partner were so looking forward to visiting you Sunday and we'd booked a table for half 5. When we arrived we'd been standing waiting at the door for 5 minutes to be seated with no members of staff in sight. We then finally got seated to be then left alone for the next 20 minutes.. I understand being given time to look at menus but to not even check in with us for 20 mins, even just for a drink order I find extremely disappointing and frankly not good enough. After this we decided to get up and leave and go elsewhere. It's a shame as your burgers sound amazing but I think this has put me off returning in future.

One of the best burgers I've had, really tender and tasty, good portion size as well with the free side. Purple slaw was excellent. Very attentive staff. Good idea to book.

Food very tasty however missing salt and pepper. Condiments took too quick from our table to be given the other people which just come . Toilets and tables spotless

Burger place, was overall ok nothing to shout about. Has some vegan options. Service started off as very attentive, but as it got busier we were waiting for quite a while, we had ordered dessert and it wasn't until we asked again that it seemed as they had forgotten to put the order through. When dessert did arrive the description was better than the final result.

Always a great experience at Fat Hippo. Lovely burgers which are fairly priced. Friendly staff which were attentive and quick. Allergy conscious with every burger being able to be made gluten free. Highly recommend

Our first time in Birmingham - Since when are casual burger joints so strict on reservations as if it's afternoon tea at The Ritz? We looked online when we got refused and there were literally options to book tables for the same exact time. If we had booked, would you have turned us away as well? Told us "we only have 30 minutes to sit and eat" and there was just such a weird energy with us but accepted a walk-in of 2 guests just like us when we were sitting down? Literally makes no sense and found it disrespectful. Food was bang average, the hot honey chicken tenders were nice but that's really the only positive outcome.

If you’re Muslim / eat kosher or halal don’t bother coming here, chicken is halal only and the burgers aren’t great.

First place I've been where the food is actually worth the price!!

Was excited to try this today but after receiving the food I was pretty disappointed. Crack tenders starter were lacklustre, flaky-ish coating and not much flavour. Sauce toppings themselves were flavourful but expected more from the chicken. I had the Swiss Tony and my partner the American. Consensus was that both of our burgers were lacking flavour. I only got a taste of flavour when I hit the centre of the burger where most of the onions congregated. Cross cut fries were as good as one can expect - saving grace were probably the dips (Garlic Butter Mayo and Ranch). Overall - With a current rating of 4.6 you would probably expect a burger that smashes the likes of Five Guys and other local burger places out the park. Would rather have spent £20 less and had a Five Guys.

I witnessed a young presentable Asian family being told there are no tables, whilst a few seconds later, they (a young white female) told me there was a table for us available (I’m white). I immediately turned around as I’m not going to support blatant and obvious Islamophobia/racism. This happened just after the restaurant had opened; therefore, there were VERY few people eating in the restaurant.

Have a lovely meal with my friend. The waitress ‘Anna’ was lovely and had an overall great time. Quick service and great food. Deffo coming again

Extremely misleading menu photos on delivery app

Nothing but praise; great food, great people, great place. Had the Notorious VFC vegetarian burger and dirty hand cuts. Tasted amazing. My co-eaters also had vegetarian options and were very satisfied.

I'm not one to normally review but I am very frustrated at how Fat Hippo have handled a refund so wish to warn other large parties who might be booking here. We went to Fat Hippo for a work social and as our party was 8 people, I was required to put down a deposit of £3 per person. I was assured this would be refunded in the final check when we paid for our food but there was a mix up with another table so our bill did not have the £24 removed. A different colleague paid the the bill so I did not notice until after it was paid. I immediately went to our server who said they couldn't handle in store but gave me an ema to contact to get it processed. I emailed immediately and got a response within a few hours saying the refund had been processed. 5 days later no refund so I emailed again and no response. 3 days after that I chased again and was given a terse response it could be up to 10 working days which was not originally communicated. It had now been at least 15 working days and I've still not been compensated. Whilst the food was great this has really marred my experience and apparently the other table of 9 there when we were didn't need to pay a deposit to secure their booking so all of this could have been avoided. The faff of trying to get back my money has ruined this restaurant for me. If you are looking to book a large party, don't pay the deposit because you won't get it back.

Almorcé a mitad de semana. La oferta de la bandeja era de gran relación calidad-precio 2 enormes tiernos de pollo con una hamburguesa y patatas fritas con una bebida por £ 20. El especial de pescado con papas fritas estaba delicioso incluso si no podía comerlo todo. El extra para la salsa de curry en las papas fritas no valía la pena como apenas un goteo, pero era realmente sabroso.

Food was great! Our main server (person with dreads and fringe) was so sweet and attentive. Reason for atmosphere being 4 star was there was no music. But the vibe was friendly and welcoming. Would defo recommend! The vegan burger was lush!

First time visiting Fat Hippo and for sure will come back again. The burger was great and they have good offers also. The 2 ladies serving me tonight were very friendly and polite. Verry happy with the experience.

The food was amazing and the atmosphere was alright but the service lacked in more ways than one. For starters, one of the people i was dining with asked for no sauce and then changed their mind and asked for sauce ON their burger as it stated on the menu. When the bill came around however, we were charged for extra garlic mayo even though they didnt order extra, they only asked for what the burger originally was. Additionally, there were only 3 of us dining and yet the waitress charged the bill with a 10% gratuity even though none of us did that ourselves - she put it on herself to make more money.

Friendly service, good food and food cam out in a timely manner. Only issue was the fries/chips were quite spicy. Didn't see on menu that they came like that. When asked replacement fries were provided at no extra cost.
