Farrers Bar & Brasserie in Scarborough

Really nice food and staff. Dog friendly. Will go every time I'm in Scarborough. Dog allowed inside so if weather bad still good to use.

Out for a morning walk, we were looking for breakfast and pleased to see this place open. We ordered two bacon sandwiches and two hot drinks from the bar which came quickly. The young staff seemed efficient and friendly which was refreshing. The sandwiches, however, were very poor and at nearly £5 each - not cheap. The bacon was full of fat and served on two slices of limp, white bread. Opening the sandwich to pull fat off bacon is certainly not my thing at all. Drinks were fine although relatively expensive again. Overall a very disappointing and at £15 , a rather expensive experience, for what was a rather basic breakfast

Staying at a nearby hotel there were not many places to eat this side of Scarborough so we decided to eat early at the Spa. A good menu and very reasonably priced . We were undecided between the small plates as they all sounded amazing or 2 mains - we plumped for a moan each and we’re not disappointed . My husband had the hungers chicken burger which was cooked with a fresh grilled chicken breast and served with onion rings and fries and I had the houmous olive and feta salad which was huge !!! Tons of olives and feta . Could easily have shared this and would have gone nice with some of the small plates ( which by the way looked a decent size ) Drinks were expensive , around £6 a pint but I guess normal now for these kind of establishments . Nice seating inside and out . I think they stop food at 7pm though so need to eat early , Olive and feta

Called in for light lunch & had Whitebait with chunky chips - my wife had a quite large chicken salad & grandchildren chicken & fries - Really enjoyed the food but what makes this place is the really friendly helpful staff - particularly 'Enya' who is exceptional at was she does - nothing is too much for her in helping & with a lovely manner. (came to a pre show drink last year in the very busy bar & this lady knew exactly who was next for drink orders & served all with a smile.) she is a real credit to this business. Will definitely call in for lunch again & after calling for coffee this morning & seeing the Eggs Benedict which looked amazing - may try a breakfast.

Called here on a day trip to Scarborough for lunch as most places were too busy and we wanted to sit and eat and chill for a bit, never been before its quite nice not too busy although outside seating was full due to it being a nice day, we ordered food and drinks after finding a table, we both opted for fish and chips and soft drinks, staff were friendly and welcoming, food arrived pretty quick and was really nice fish was cooked to perfection light crispy batter and not greasy full of flavour, good portion sizes too, think our bill was £35 which i thought was reasonable. Toilets were clean and easy access. Would return next time we visit.

Booked a week in advance and specifically asked about parking and told that they had parking outside the restaurant. So we travelled the 80 miles for the lunch time menu. When we got there no space available for parking or anywhere close despite there been an empty area that we were told was reserved for staff and theatre members only. No option was offered by the staff so left. Very disappointing, don`t accept what they tell you when you book, will not be recommending this restaurant.

Visited during the school holidays so expected it to be busy but was quiet. This shouldn’t be a reflection on the food or service as both were fantastic! Might just be that it’s away from all the hustle and bustle of the amusements and harbour (which is a bonus!). Food was lovely - would recommend the light plates which was like a Yorkshire tapas. Really quick service too and fabulous views!

Beautiful surroundings amazing service but prices of beer (Carling,Madri) £5-6£ is a bit over the top and not sure why for a coastal town, which I believe been told keeps the locals away, alright when tourists and gigs on but why so expensive ??

Called in several times during our stay and found the young people working there very friendly and helpful. Had 3 of the Little Plates of Yorkshire (black pudding Scotch eggs, whitebait and beef with blue cheese) they were very tasty and filling. Nice to sit outside and enjoy the view & very dog friendly.

Farrer's Bar is a lovely place with a welcoming environment and very friendly staff with the added bonus of being dog friendly. We go regularly after our walks in the Italian gardens and the beach-perfect. Can't comment on the food as we are local and have never eaten there but the meals look well prepared, appetising and served always with a smile. Staff are always on the go making sure that the tables are cleared and anything you want is there for you. I feel like I know them all personally, especially Meral.This place feels like home, beautiful building, lovely scenery, very good staff and a grand cup of tea -what more can you ask.Thank you

A perfect place to stop during a bracing seaside walk (dogs welcomed), with lovely friendly service from the staff, Meral particularly, Good, well-presented snacks and meals (the chips are excellent). With the crashing waves only yards away it's a really dramatic and lovely setting. We've been coming here once a week during the winter and just love it!!!

Friendly and efficient staff serving quality food at reasonable prices. Our waitress, Meral, never stopped looking after customers and cleaning tables. We were very impressed, and even better there is a dog friendly area. Farrer's will always be one of our favourite eateries.

The toilets were so dirty with ingrained urine along toilet seat hinges I complained.

Came in Sunday 15th dec for breakfast. I was greeted by a very bubbly friendly lady. Name I didnt catch. She wore a supervisor badge. She was very friendly towards my dog and my family. Brought all our hot drinks to us and offered extra hot water if needed. She was very polite nothing was too much trouble. She appeared to be very enthusiastic about her job and was ensuring her work team were doing there jobs. Definitely visit again.

We attended the night at the darts event which was very busy, didn’t seem to have enough staff on as there was long queue, then when we did get served they ran out of change, which took forever to sort! Offered to pay by card but couldn’t as it had already been cashed off and needed a supervisor to change, supervisor had gone looking for change so was nowhere to be seen..

Your staff are very welcome and we have enjoyed our time in bar but the lack of the Xmas spirit is very obvious bah hum bug to the manager xx

Great entertainment on Monday evenings together with excellent dining. Good choice of food which was served hot and promptly. Staff very accommodating making sure everything ok before the entertainment starts. A great dining experience.

On a cold & rainy November Saturday, we walked from our hotel on the north cliff down across south beach to The Spa, a place I remember well from childhood holidays. We were ready for some lunch but had our little dog in tow. Dog-friendly area to the right of the main door - all tables were taken. It really was too cold to sit outside so I went in to ask if we could have a table just to the left of the door. The lovely young man at the bar invited us to take that table. We were very happy with the flexibility of their policy. The menu is typically British brasserie with plenty of choice including several veggie options. The teens enjoyed respectively haddock & chips & scampi & chips. My veggie husband had the spicy bean & coriander burger & I joined him with this. He enjoyed it, I (as a meat eater) found it a little dry but the chips, onion rings & salad were lovely. Really good value. Good service, clean place including loos. Very happy to return.

Came to visit the Scarborough Spa to see Ladyboys of Bangcock and decided to have tea and pre drinks at Farrer’s and I have to say we were not disappointed. Absolutely lovely food and outstanding customer service. The pre order interval drinks sheet on the tables is a brilliant idea resulting in your refreshment waiting for you and preventing standing in long queues, hats off to whoever suggested this idea! All staff were so friendly and attentive, especially Meral who looked after our table. Would recommend a visit to the Farrer’s anytime you are in Scarborough! Xx

Visited today with my Mum & partner who spent many happy Sundays lunching at the Farrers Bar & Brasserie after listening to the concert in the sun court. Mum can hardly walk now, partner lost his sight but the one place they wanted to come back to was here. The sun is shining & there is warmth in my heart from this lovely day. Excellent service, Mefal and her team could not have looked after us better, food great & really good value. Thank you so much.

Had breakfast here this morning. Served with the best customer service from Meral. We were able to bring our wee dogs into the dog area of the resteraunt which is great. Food service atmosphere and cleanliness all superb. We will be back and recommend to our friends.

Booked in advance as usual to eat at Farrer's during the three days of Scarborough Jazz Festival. Time between gigs was really short so eating on site was easiest. The menu was simple but there was always something for everyone and the food was freshly prepared and tasty. There were problems each day; either with my table reservation or order but every time the problems were resolved super swiftly, efficiently and always with a smile. The friendliness and helpfulness of the staff overcame all my grumpiness, I was so impressed by the staff and the food that I’m more than happy to book again for next year. Well done to everyone for coping so well in such stressful circumstances.

I booked this restaurant for a birthday lunch, and was not disappointed. Because it was on a Bank Holiday, we were advised to pre-order our food. This is not cordon bleu cooking but the food was fresh, tasty and very good value for money. Service from Meral was excellent. It turned out to be a good choice!

Just been in Farrer's and the service from Meral was amazing. She serving clearing and cleaning tables, and chatting to customers. She never stops.

Only wanted a up of coffee! Waited at the till to pay. When it was my turn, the young man was dealing with a problem for another customer. An older waiter arrived and told him to serve me from a different till. He took my order for a cup of coffee and I paid. He asked where I was sitting and I told him I would be sitting outside. 20 minutes later, my coffee had not arrived. Another member of staff came outside and I explained that I had been waiting 20 minutes. She went inside and came back with my coffee within a few minutes. She told me that the young man apologised (which I took to mean he had forgotten) and told me (in no uncertain terms) that he had broken his foot and was hobbling around. If this was the issue, there were 3 other members of staff that I saw during my visit who could have brought the coffee outside. However, I subsequently saw him bring other orders outside - he did not appear to be limping! Not sure what was going on but that woman needs to go on a Customer Service skills course. Her attitude was rather rude and it was apparently all my fault! I'll not be going back any time soon. This used to be a really good place but has gone downhill of late. It is beginning to look scruffy.

First visit in 25 years to Scarborough & we used the open top bus with a day ticket that gave us freedom to use as many times. so went to Farrer's and had a top experience wonderful hard working polite staff who served us speedily with our drinks. My husband had a chicken salad & I had prawn baguette it has to be the nicest lunch / meal on our trip, compliments to the chefs & catering team I'd recommend everyone to stroll down or hop on the bus to the spar area & I guarantee you won't be disappointed

Only popped in for a pot of tea but we received a really warm welcome from Meral, copious tea served in two big pots with complementary biscuits - plenty to quench the thirst of our family after a long day in Scarborough. My young daughter was treated to crayons and paper as well as an extra biscuit! All made to feel really valued and looked after.

I didnt have high expectations prior to my arrival and these were soon confirmed shortly after walking through the door. It went busy, only 8 others sat inside and a handful enjoying the sun at the front, yet every unoccupied table was covered in stains, litter or unstocked condiment containers. The staff had obviously missed their custoner service training and barely managed single syllable noises as I ordered. The table we sat at was filthy, old biscuit wrappers discarded on the floor, the cup I was given was stained and the sofa I was sat on was ripped in every section. Farrers has clearly fallen foul of being run by a large corporate organisation whose management team are happy leaving it in a sorry state, content with it ticking along making the bare minimum. Little wonder its staff are so miserable.

Visited with husband and two children for lunch. When we ordered we informed staff that our daughter has a dairy allergy and were told that she couldn't have the batter on the fish fingers as the mix they buy has milk powder in. The chef said he would have to just poach her some fish. I should perhaps point out that my husband is a chef and he was confused as to why the "chef" at Farrers couldn't make a simple flour and water batter as he would have done. Nevertheless we agreed to the poached fish. The food arrived, it was hot and we didn't have long to wait. But everything was bland. The fish for my daughter was mushy and inedible, she loves fish but took one bite and spat it into a napkin. The chips look great but taste of nothing, even the peas are tasteless. The batter for my son's fish was soggy and dripped grease all over the plate. The only thing I can praise about this place is the waiting staff, the young man who served us was very pleasant, polite and came to our table to apologise as there was no soya milk available for the coffee I ordered. Apart from that the whole experience was very disappointing.

I visit Farrers for a coffee most days throughout the year after walking my dogs on the beach.

Cannot praise this venue highly enough! After having a very poor experience food wise at blue dolphin park, we were so happy to have found this place towards the end of our stay! It definitely saved our holiday! So much so that after our first visit on Thursday 29th August, we returned again for lunch on Friday 30th before finally setting off for home in Doncaster. When we arrived home we realised that we had left our granddaughters iPad in the caravan, so after many phone calls, and different people searching for it, I had a call from blue dolphin to say they had found it, rather than having them post it to us, I saw it as a perfect opportunity to bring my husband to try the good in Farrers bar!!! Needless to say we were not disappointed. Morel, Andrew, Joe, and manager Kyle, made it yet again a joyful experience. Price wise on average the meals we had here were £17 cheaper and of much higher standard than blue dolphin. Will recommend to all our friends and family, and will definitely return again and again!! We have eaten here before and decided to return whilst staying in scarborough for a couple of days. We had lunch one day which was really nice, the breakfasts are also very good and good value. However I think the cleanliness could be improved and the tables need to be cleaned more often. Friendly staff.

Had a lovely full breakfast here with my husband, right next to the beach, lovely location, lovely efficient staff, didn't wait long for our order at all. The pot of tea for two is big, and they were happy to give a pot of hot water to top it up if needed. Nice fodd, efficient, cheerful staff.

The place is really nice with great views but the service is lack-lustre. We sat down on a dirty table outside as there were no others and no one came to clear it, we had to ask. Also, once it had been ‘cleared’ it wasn’t even wiped so it was still dirty. The food was nice (however quite overpriced) but we weren’t even brought any condiments / salt and pepper. Overall not a bad place to eat but we really expected better service from the staff, they just looked like they didn’t want to be there.

We called in today just after lunchtime.. lovely young lady served us, think her name was meral . Our son doesn’t like dogs so before we went to the bar to order she advised us where the area was for the dogs. So we moved seats & went to the bar & ordered. We were having a bit chitchat then she asked me if I’d read about that dog that had got savagely attacked.. I said no I hadn’t. Then out of nowhere this other member of staff who was also serving a customer rudely butted in to a private conversation.. I was totally disgusted the way she spoke to meral .. I think if I’m right she was called Amanda . I was appalled the way she conducted herself in front of myself & my partner & who ever else was at the bar at the same time. It sounded very personal to her but I think she way out of order the way she spoke to meral . If anything she should have maybe spoke to her when we left not while we were stood there. To be honest I’d have 2nd thoughts about eating there if that member of staff was there. She really ruined our lunch really before we even got it .

This is a nice bar and restaurant attached to the Scarborough Spa. The food is very good (I can recommend the Whitby scampi) and not overpriced. Farrers is dog friendly with a specific area for those with four legged friends to sit so it's not a problem if you're not keen on dogs as you can choose to sit in the other areas of the brasserie away from the dogs. Service is very quick, even at busy times and the seats in the window have nice views of South Bay. There is also seating outside if you prefer. Toilet facilities are excellent - spacious and clean. Farrers is wheelchair and pushchair accessible (though you need to walk a bit further along to access the ramp). You order food & drink at the bar rather than waiting for table service. Ideal spot for a coffee too if you've just had a long walk on the beach.

My family and I had dinner here the other day. We had to call the staff to place an order, because they just didn't come. When we got our drinks, one of us had a dirty wineglass with someone else's lipstick on it. When we mentioned it, there were no apologies or any friendly behavior from the staff.
