We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here , the manager Anna was excellent , very friendly and helpful. She kindly upgraded our room to a very spacious one which was very clean and well equipped. The location is good with only a short walk into the centre. The breakfast was excellent and I particularly enjoyed the mushroom scramble. There is also an Indian restaurant in the basement which although pricy was first class. We would 100% stop here again if we are in Durham

Location was perfect, a Samuel Smiths pub and Elm tree pub on the way😉 down to Durham. Big thank you to Anna and her team. We will be back. Dave and Natalie

Fantastic !!! Anna and Richard are amazing ! Very very friendly, efficient and welcoming. It’s one of the reasons I return to stay there whilst visiting my son, who’s at uni. The building has so much character, being nearly 200 years old. A lot of the rooms have views. Breakfast is delicious and cooked to order. The Indian restaurant offers a two for one offer on cocktails before 6.30. Great way to start your evening !! Keep doing what you’re doing Anna x Richard it’s a thumbs up from me 👍🏻

Stayed here as a couple for a single night in the double room with the cathedral view. Had a lovely stay, room was very nice and clean, it was close enough to the city centre to walk there and Anna the manager was very nice, would definitely go there again.

Beautiful house. I've seen recommendations for the Indian, I personally didn't like it. The rooms were really quite cold and the heating didn't come on until 10pm, we were in bed by this point, they had a spare blanket and I didn't feel cold but my face was freezing. I suppose its only a winter problem. The breakfast was OK, again the room was quite cold. Location was good, a nice walk and not too much effort to walk into town and back. Overall I felt it wasn't the best value for money but did the job fo a bed for the night. The host was lovely and very welcoming

Thank you to Anna and all the staff for a FANTASTIC night's stay, and a wonderful breakfast. I often find hotel rooms uncomfortably warm, but not here. Room temperature was exactly right. I was in Durham for a reunion and thanks to you all went excellently. I shall certainly use the hotel again, and recommend it to anybody visiting Durham. Thanks again John Telfer

Lovely boutique hotel that’s walking distance to Durham city centre. Generous breakfast and very clean rooms. Definitely worth the price of stay. The entire hotel is beautifully and tastefully decorated. There is a great Indian restaurant on site too where we got dinner at night. Especial shout out to manager Anna (who seems to be doing everything!), very friendly and attentive though obviously incredibly busy. Free carpark. Would definitely return to stay again and just reminds me why a well-run small hotel is a world of difference from an AirBnB.

Farnley Guest House is nestled in a pretty residential area about 15 minutes walk from Durham town centre. It benefits from having its own car parking which is a real bonus. Note: the guest house is at the top of a steep hill, so the walk back from the town centre is arduous if you're not fit! Great wifi available for guest too! Attached to the guest house was a fabulous Indian restaurant which is definitely worth a visit during your stay. The room we stayed in had a view over to the cathedral and it was warm and cosy. The bed was very comfortable! Lovely to sink into after a busy day exploring Durham. The bathroom was clean (shower curtain was a little grubby...) and had a fantastic power shower with plenty of hot water! Towels provided and refreshed everyday. Staff were very helpful and friendly throughout our stay. The only thing that let it down was the breakfast. Sadly this wasn't very good. Although the full English was hearty, the bacon wasn't cooked fully, the egg was extremely small and flavourless (scrambled eggs possibly microwaved, were dry and inedible) the sausage wasn't very tasty either. The mushrooms so finely chopped weren't very appealing. The toast was just what seemed to be value supermarket bread! I feel some locally sourced produce and good quality bread would lift this to a new level. Also, every tea cup in the dining room was badly chipped and these need replacing as a matter of urgency! I do understand that there may have been staffing issues. So the breakfast may have been improved. Overall we enjoyed our stay very much and would recommend, as it offers good value for money. I'm sure the breakfast issues will be fixed and then it would be 10 out of 10!!

Ended up here after some searching around; because of the time of day. Food was good enough, but the guy that served us was really nice; bit of a chat while serving and a chat at the end of our visit; makes a difference.

First time! Fantastic food, arrived quickly. Having struggled to find a great take away, this one is the one. Just about £50 for 3 starters, 3 mains, prawn crackers, delivery etc. Plus free chicken curry.
