Met with friends for breakfast, one of whom is coeliac . Enquired what was available for her and once it was established that it wasn’t an allergy but coeliac , she was advised that nothing was suitable for her . Understand this is a small kitchen and full marks for being accountable for potential cross contamination , however it would have been nice to have been able to select pre made pre packaged gluten free items even if they weren’t made on the premises so she could have eaten with us . Really disappointed for her but I will say all the other offerings were very nice.

Coffee, pastries, and hot food are all equally good. Haven’t had anything I didn’t love!

A gem of a bakery. Popped in after the local Parkrun. The queue was out of the door, which is always a sign of a good establishment, and the cakes and drinks lived up to expectations!

Fantastic cakes and brownies. There always a queue outside. Menu changes regularly. But do try the ginger cake, the Basque cheesecake and the classic brownie. And follow on Instagram to see everything being made.

Food was amazing, all fresh and very tasty. A little Pricey, but definitely woth every penny.

The food and drinks are always fabulous, the sizes are huge and quality is great … which justifies the pricing. The service can be cold and un-welcoming at times, certainly needs improvement on that front.

Everything was truly delightful. The coffee and cakes were simply delicious!

Saffron make exceptional and delicious flavours cakes, they maybe pricey but well worth it, they are truly scrumptious, I often treat myself to the cakes, they are very yummy and more.ish, I love her cakes, buy I will be buying some bread, her food it so yummy thank Saffron for wonderful and delicious cakes and the servic, from Mandye at no5

So many amazing old school bakes here and everything is SUPERSIZED! I have to avoid egg and dairy and there were three options for me on this occasion. There are gluten free options but the owner is clear that whilst precautions are in place, the foods are all prepared in the same kitchen. Always a great coffee and lovely friendly staff too. It's been a while since I've been back to Fancy and it's not going to be too long before I go back again.

A world class bakery. I rarely give a 5 star review but this bakery is putting out some of the best baked goods I have ever tasted. I’ve eaten at the most expensive, world famous patisseries and this is the best I’ve ever had. The banoffee pie was the best. I’d eat it every day if I lived here. The macaroon was also amazing. I’ve had 5 items and will eventually try everything. Please never take off the banoffee pie. It’s amazing.

Visited for the first time yesterday. Excellent coffee and hot chocolate. The cakes were also extremely good. My wife, who can give a cold eye to inferior buttercream, pronounced it excellent on the coffee and walnut. Blueberry and lime cake and lemon, almond and polenta were also top-notch. The owner seems a talented, hard-working and pleasant woman. We will definitely return here.

I went to Fancy Bakery in my first time to try it out 09.02.2022, l ordered chocolate cake to takeway. The lady was very friendly and talkative. I will go again.

Five star all the ways. Been here a few times now, only take away still at present. The choice is always changing and a great list. There is usually a queue outside as only one in at a time to order, but also shows how good the cakes etc are. It is card only, and they also do drinks, brownies etc. Love the fresh bakes, very friendly, what's not to like. Enjoy

An absolute delight, working my way through the selection over a period of time and everything is exceptional. Worth travelling to for a treat, you will not be disappointed

Hello,I came across this place as I driving through and thought I'd stop off for a drink and cake. My god I was not disappointed,the hot chocolate is real chocolate melted in milk and the cakes! One word amazing im obsessed with the peanut caramel slice I just can't describe how amazing it is!!

This place is amazing!! the peanut caramel brownie thing is the best cake you will ever eat!! do not miss this place!!

My favourite place to go when I come to Bedford. Lovely baked goods including breakfast and lunch items, and a relaxing atmosphere. Everything is fresh so even though some reviews say it's overpriced, you pay for quality. I've also ordered a cake before for a party and there was good communication and easy to collect on the day!

4 stars only because Covid restrictions prevent use of the café booths; seating (at the moment) is outside only. Very friendly staff, lovely coffee and incredible nibbles. What's not to like?! Can't wait to visit once restrictions are lifted to make the most of this hidden gem.

Fancy is a tea shop you can rely on- as part of a large party, no-one faulted their tea, coffee or cake. My own rooibos tea was full of flavour and I got at least 2 cups out of the tea pot. The victoria sandwich I had was a good sized portion and had a great texture and the buttercream was delightful- not too sickly like Ive had at other places. I would have given 5 /5 if 1. there had been more than one person serving on a busy saturday lunchtime and 2.sadly the outside of the spout of my tea post wasnt as clean as it should have been. Yes you can perhaps go to places that are a bit cheaper but I feel you really get good value here in terms of quantity and quality.

Lovely little cafe with fresh cake bakery out the back. Cakes look superb upon entry, Chorizo and Emmental toastie with pickled cucumber was amazing and the coffee is proper quality coffee. Staff were really nice. Recommended.

We had the spelt wholemeal soda bread, made by Saffron, the owner, toasted and (generously) topped with avocado, smoked salmon and rocket, and it was all indescribably delicious. We arrived not long after one o'clock. Inside was busy but we ate outside, where it was fresh and peaceful. Staff are friendly and relaxed, and service is efficient. There's free parking in some of the streets nearby, and the No.10 bus stops a few yards away in one direction, and across the road the other way, so I have no excuse for staying away now.

There are lots of things served here in a lovely ambience. But basically for me it's all about the cakes. And what cakes! Saffron the proprietor makes vegan choices and options for those with intolerances too.

I've enjoyed two wonderful visits to this cafe in the last couple of weeks. The coffee is excellent and the cake selection, truly impressive. The cheese and sun dried tomato scone was sublime! Lovely service too.

One of Bedford’s little gems - excellent range of different cakes including gluten & dairy free options, all delicious! Toastier and bagels are yummy too & reasonably priced. I’m not a big coffee drinker but my mum is a self confessed coffee snob and has said Fancy Bakery is the best coffee she’s ever had in Bedford! My husband agrees. Really nice atmosphere, lovely little place that I’m sure I will frequent now I know about it.

Popped in at lunch time for a bit of cake & cuppa but ended up having a toasted cheese sandwich. This was generous is size & blissfully delicious . Followed naturally with a slice of clementine & chocolate cake . Moist & delicious it went down a treat & I was really full . Lovely service . Great selection to of cakes with a gluten intolerance plus cakes for vegans .

So many delicious looking homemade cakes to choose from, it was a hard decision to pick! We'll have to return to try the rest! A welcoming place to sit and enjoy coffee and a sweet treat. Finding a parking space isn't the easiest but don't let this put you off.

This is one of the best places to have a coffee in Bedford and tuck into a gluten free or vegan cake, there are always free from options available and dairy free milks too for my coffee. Those who don't have dietary requirements are in for a real treat.....don't eat before hand, you'll need all the space in your tummy for these baked goods

Haven't visited Fancy Bakery in a while and kicked myself why I haven't! Delighted with choice of bakes and savouries. Just enough on menu for alternative choosing and not too much to boggle your brain trying to decide. 🤔😊. Nice decor and sitting arrangement with a homely feel and ambiance.

We popped in here after a friend recommended the great cakes. Staff are super friendly and there is indeed a good selection of cakes, including veggie and vegan, and those to suit allergy sufferers with gluten, egg and dairy free options. The tea was good and we can recommend the clementine cake and fruit cake. We didn't try anything savoury on this visit, but there were a couple of blackboards with menus, including one with regularly changing specials. Happy to return to try more.

Very helpful. Completed a cake order and decorated at short notice which tasted great. Plus their cinnamon buns are stunning. Will drop by for more.

On paper, this cafe sounds like a dream come true. We decided to go check it out. The place is a little dark which gives it a weird atmosphere. Like you're at your relatives, you know the ones that you see every now and then, thinking you like them but in fact you just wanna get out and leave. It felt like that. The service was not very welcoming and just a tad cold, maybe we caught the place on a bad day, don't know. We won't come back sadly. The cakes are really nice, so if you want to try and get some cake to take out or even order some cake for a party, I would really recommend this place.

Whilst visiting relatives there told us of this place , wow ! What a gem ! Loads of different types of cakes and good range of gluten free , we only bought takeaway cakes 🍰 but it looked inviting !

We always try to fit in visiting this cafe for a toastie, cake and coffee when we are in the Bedford area. They offer a good selection of sandwiches/toasties on quality bread (not basic white sliced as you get in many places) and lovely home made cakes, including some for people with dietary restrictions. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and we always enjoy our visits here.

Experience authentic home made cake eating experience at Fancy. Cake wise, spoilt for choice and my advice, if you haven't time to eat in, collect a takeaway! A hidden gem of a coffee shop if you don't know about Fancy already!

Such a lovely little bakery. A great place for a catch up with a friend or to meet a client. Free WiFi, around 9 tables in all, of varying sizes. Beautiful and unusual cakes and great coffee. Parking can be tricky.

Every time I come here I have the, “sweet or savoury” debate in my head as they do both sooooo well. Their savoury scones are ace and their brownies are heaven on a plate.

We collected our package and on our way back home in a quiet area of Bedford found this amazing Home Made Cakes tea room. We ordered our coffee and tea, we should have done it the other way round as the selection of different cakes and flavours took a little time. Glad the young lady was patient and charming. I decided on the coffee and walnut delicious, my wife went for the chocolate brownies by the look on her face there was no point in asking how tasty and flavoursome it was. We will not require an excuse to go again. They have savoury selections as well, plus locally made ice cream.

1st visit today with the core park run team, lovely gluten free cake and a great selection to choose from! Very friendly happy smiling staff! Keep up the good work 😀

A good find near Bedford park with wide range of breakfast foods and home made cakes! Nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Not the largest place in the world so sometimes difficult to get a seat if its busy, wish it was open Sundays!

Really lovely place for tea & cake or a light lunch. Good selection of food & vegetarians & gluten free etc. seem to be well covered. Quirky, mis-matching China tea cups - very lovely. Garden out back. Nice meeting place. Bigger than it looks from the outside!
