Went here a few years ago and really enjoyed it so we decided to have a takeaway. Firstly, staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful and I can't fault them at all. Restaurant was also OK, a bit tired in decor but clean and welcoming. The food was really expensive though and when we got home we found the portion sizes were mean and the take away tubs were only half filled. The ribs were burnt, they actually tasted like they had been cooked in the deep fat fryer for ages were overly brittle. The prawn toast was so greasy when you bit into it the oil dripped down your fingers and the edges were very burned from being in a deep fat fryer too long. The ginger beef was overpowered by the ginger, its all you could taste and was cut thick and chunky so was really unpleasant in texture. The beef was grey and chewy. The duck and the hoison sauce was cold when we opened it and just didn't seem very fresh, again looked like it had been cooked in a deep fat fryer. The best thing was the crispy seaweed but came in the TINYEST tub, was literally one spoonful each. Had we known the portion sizes were going to be so small we would not have bothered. Finished still feeling hungry and disappointed with both the food quality and quantity, especially having had to leave the ribs and prawn toast, they really were very unpleasant.

If I could give zero stars I would. Place is awful. Advertised as 5 star food hygiene. But most recent was 0. Wouldn't be surprised if I got food poisoning. Save your money. Absolutely awful!

I was impressed with the professionalism which I was greet when I ordered my takeaway. The food was freshed, delicious and I was asked if I want spicy or not even I forgot to mention. Everything was fast to order and collect. Thank you

Food hygiene rating threw me off but I thought I would give the family business the benefit of the doubt but unfortunately it came to my attention that it’s… VERY Over priced, Small portions for a ‘so called buffet’ plus they bring it out to you so your waiting a long time…they lean over you sometimes without warning Tasteless food Possible ‘Food poisoning’ not professional and very unwelcoming (i felt like we was being watched the whole time) Very cramped Not child friendly & you also you have to pay the same price £22.80 which is ridiculous !!!! How the mighty have fallen. Firstly a Deceiving food standards hygiene rating. Advertised on their website at 5 star. But this dates to 21/01/19. The most recent star rating is 0 yes 0. Funnily enough this isn’t advertised by them. Now the food. I used to use this restaurant on a regular basis many years ago. Couldn’t decide on a venue to eat one night so decided to try family house. What a mistake. Had to change the cutlery twice due to them being dirty. Starters of ribs where dry as the bone they came on, the seaweed as salty as the sea itself and the prawn on toast could’ve been rung out to reuse the fat they got cooked in. Crispy aromatic duck, not crispy neither aromatic. It had the appearance of minced beef that had gone off. The hoisin sauce looked like ketchup with a bit of soy sauce in it and the pancakes resembled four little rounds of cardboard. Kung po King prawn was ok but the sizzling beef was very chewy and the beef was tasteless. Over all a very disappointing visit, considering this establishment was superb back in the day. As for the two “women” that sat next to us. Well I won’t go into that. I guess you can’t choose your clientele 🤦‍♂️

Yet another fine take-away for two - spare ribs, two duck dishes and Chinese vegetables, all freshly cooked and very tasty. Just had a very good take-away meal for two. Excellent range of colours flavours and, of course, flavours. Quantities were pretty good too!

I wouldnt go anywhere else, food is great and so are the staff. A family run business who get very busy with takeaways so sometimes you have to be patient and wait, which I know offends a lot of people that is the English attitude. But we love it and we are looking forward to another great meal tonight just in case we go into lockdown next week

Me and my mum visited this place on a monday when the eat out to help out was going on. And all i can say it was a waste of money. Firstly they have put the price for there buffet up. It has never been over £20pp mon-thu. I would understand if it was a weekend. Second they've changed the buffet, so half the stuff that was on it before isn't anymore. There is no social distance in place. They sit everyone next to one another. They over book and when you get there, they turn round and say sorry but the buffet isnt availble even tho they said on the phone it is. They try to get you to order frlm the la carte menu. We even over heard them saying that they are running out of food, and that they are charging service charge. Even tho the service is appalling. We ordered sesame prawn toast. Omg it was like eating OIL. No prawn, just the taste of oil. Was so disgusting. Duck was okay, nothing exciting about there food one bit. Yhe ribs were like eating bone and nut. No meat on them. Soup was the only decent thing and that was lukewarm. We ordered 1 coke at the start, went to order another. Got ignored, so asked someone else, they brought it over and at the end of the bill they tried to charge us gor 3. Snd the little man who i think owns it, gave us this look like we was trying to play a fast one. It was coke. Which they charge £3:50 for. Rip off!!!!!! Iv never been so disappointed in a chinese buffet before. We only went there because fuchi was fully booked. Fuchi 1 million% better restaurant. Amazing food, if your in totton. The young lady that served us had an awful attitude, she was disgusted that she had to walk to provide us our food to prevent us from leaning over other customers. I would not employ this woman, she was rude, dismissive and inappropriate. Luckily the food was lovely, otherwise this would have got 1 star if lucky. Her customer service was appalling.

Thank you Family House. The take-away you brought to our house including the Stuffed Sliced Duck In Crabmeat Sauce, King prawn chow mein & Family house platter for 2 was marvelous. Some of the detractors on this website who make negative remarks should realise we live in difficult times, and you are the only chinese take away serving the people of Totton while all the other chinese restaurants & take-aways have closed in the immediate area. This Family run restaurant is always friendly and the food is very good. People should realise that these take-away services are invaluable while people self-isolate. We should spare a thought for the people who work in the take-away sector, and think of those 17,337 people who have had their future birthdays permanently "ruined" because they have died in the UK during the pandemic. Thanks again, your hard work during this most difficult time is most appreciated.

Absolute joke. Pre-ordered 4 hours before delivery date and already over an hour late with no contact. First time time ordering from here and will definitely be the last. Safe to say will never be using Family House again. Birthday ruined thanks!!

Tried several times during the wait to call the Family House but couldn’t get through. Once food had been sent back I did manage to get through and speak to the manager who was very apologetic and promised to give me a priority delivery the next night at 7:30pm.....it’s now 8:10 and food hasn’t arrived yet! Won’t be using this place again!!!

We turned up at the restaurant to order a takeaway but given the lockdown there was a note on the door to say order online or by phone for collection or delivery. We went back to the car but both online sites said it was closed. I called the number and it was answered straight away by a friendly and polite girl, who told us our food would be ready in 10-15 mins. We went back in after about 20 and the food was all ready. It was one of the best Chinese I've had in a while. Crispy wan tons, sweet and sour chicken balls with sauce not too sweet and proper chicken inside. The pork was tender and not chewy and even the plain noodles had a lovely flavour. And my favourite bit, the prawn crackers, tasted fresh and not like they had been sitting a while as many from takeaways do. We will definitely be back- both for takeaway and also when the lockdown is over for a proper sit down meal in their restaurant which is an a la carte all you can eat.

Ordered online at 8pm which we were given a 50 minute wait for delivery. And 1hr and half passes so I decide to drive up and check it’s open. I was told it was Next to be cooked and I could collect in 30 mins... Then straight away my wife received a call to say it was ready... Then after all the confusion I collected my order which I was charged for already.. To then get home and realise that 2 x mix platters were missing from our order and our food was cold. We tried to ring them back to inform them of the missing order but no one would answer a call.

Poor quality and small portions

We have been coming here since it opened and have never been disappointed. Top quality buffet tonight and we order a take away each week which is fabulous. Lovely friendly staff and would never consider anywhere else.

The service of this restaurent was poor ragged and overall s**t. The men’s toilets where run down and dated. The staff where highly rude and had no respect for their customers. WOULD NOT RECCOMEND! Also they did not get the orders right of our food as it felt like we where on rashens from WW11 and still felt hungry after we went home. NOT GOOD!😡😤

On arrival, there was a couple sat at a table on the left nr the entrance and a couple sat nr the bar area, which appeared to be waiting for a take away. There were no other restaurant customers for the rest of the night, except for a few take away's. Our group sat to the right of the enterance, around two large round tables which had been put together, seating was awkward to say the least. Just after arrival, l paid a visit to the gents... on my way there two young children were sat & laid on chairs on a mobile & tablet, they appeared to be the owners children. The toilets appeared very tired, not very clean & cobwebs hung from the ceiling. I returned to our table where a female server was tooking drink orders. The owner started to take food orders. When the food arrived... it was mixed up, we had purposefully sat so, set meals were around one table & individual meals were around the other. At one time the female server frog marched one of the owners children by the cuff to the kitchen... not good. The food in my opinion was average, nothing special. But, the quantity of food was also very questionable, considering how much we were paying... £200++ The service was very poor & l truly believe the owner has no concept of the meaning of, "Good Customer Service"... BEWARE!

Great food great price best Chinese in Southampton

We booked the venue for a 11 people for a 25th birthday meal. The food at the Family House is incredible! You seriously cannot fault the presentation or the freshness. So compliments to the chefs. However, it is really let down by the outdated colour and presentation of the restaurant itself. The tank they have for the fish is too small.

I visited here a few weeks ago on a Saturday night, and we were the only customers in the restaurant the whole time. I think this says it all.

The sense the hosts are all family gives a friendly warm welcome to this restaurant. This is not an overly large restaurant which adds to the cosy atmosphere and feel. We ate off the set menus enjoying well presented and tasty Cantonese style meals over four courses. We chose different set meals so our group of six could mix up the starters of soup and the traditional platter style of starters. Followed by shredded crisp duck pancakes and then a good range of main courses including your standard of sweet and sour, chili beef, cooked vegetables and special fried rices. So if you are looking for a good value Chinese served with friendly service this is a great place to call in.

I really like this family run restaurant - been coming here for 25 years and the food is good and there is always a warm welcome. The buffet is freshly cooked to order and is good value if you are hungry. The sizzling dishes are quite theatrical, the curry is nice and the ribs are excellent.

Food wasn't the best and unfortunately the spicy chicken wings where undercooked. We did contact the restaurant to advise them they offered a credit or replacement for the wings however we declined. Disappointed this time round.

Been here about 3 or 4 times now for a sit down meal and been very happy with the consistent quality of the food and flavours. Staff are friendly service is good, all food is piping hot.

Excellent takeaway and restaurant

We were staying down this way for a short break and although this restaurant wasn't the closest to us it had by far the best reviews and was more reasonably priced. The food was delicious and the gentleman that served us was friendly. Can definitely recommend them and would go back there if we are down that way again.

when preordering our meal it stated delivery only. so we ordered and advised we would be given an update of service etc as usual. called 15 mins past the delivery time. Apparently collection only.

Me and my partner arrived 8th of October 18, service was outstanding and food was impeccable. Prices are reasonable, definitely worth it for the food received. All food recieved was delicious and succulent, the service was also efficient and I would definitely recommend anyone. I will definitely be returning.

Lovely place to go. The staff are friendly, has a nice feel about it. A nice place to have in a small town. Could do with modernisation but good to see it is not closed down unlike a lot of places in Totton over the years

Just come back from an absolutely beautiful meal here. We were looking for a good Chinese buffet close to where we were staying on holiday and this was the closest and best price. We had the all you can eat buffet. Everything was cooked to order and came out piping hot. We loved every mouthful and the staff were so pleasant and friendly. Even down to advising on parking. They couldn’t do enough. We even arrived slightly early and they were so accommodating. Fully recommend.

When you place an order for a curry it states "Served with boiled rice" but when you place the order they do not give you any boiled rice unless you state in the notes you want boiled rice. There is no indication that you need to do this on there Just Eat page and when you query this with the restaurant they refuse to give you the rice as you apparently didn't order rice by stating you wanted boiled rice in the notes yet they don't tell you to do this. They then tell you to take this up with Just Eat as it is there fault and not the restaurants as you placed your order online. Who orders a curry that comes with no rice? They will only then provide you with your boiled rice when you say you will call trading standards for breach of the trades description act as they state "served with boiled rice" then fail to provide it unless you leave a note asking for it which they fail to tell you to do. Also you should be aware that they call you and advise after placing an order and paying for it that the prices on Just Eat are wrong and you need to pay an additional 80p and that Just Eat won't amend there menu prices. Upon checking this with Just Eat 80p is rather conveniently the price Just Eat charge the restaurant for using there services which the restaurant are passing on to customers as a hidden extra cost.

Food was ok but portions were smaller than expected. This restaurant does not do deliveries for Just Eat customers. I was told if I had booked directly with the restaurant then I could have had a delivery. Order was 10 mins late although I had put in the order at least 2 hrs before collections., and when I got home I found the order to be in complete, although they did deliver the missing item unfortunately too late to eaten with the rest. Although I paid when I ordered, I was told I had to pay extra when I got to the restaurant because the prices on Just Eat menu were in correct. Needlessly to say I will not be using this service with this restaurant in future..

I eat few times from this restaurant being in visit in this area. The food is good but the service is very very low.

We have recently used the takeaway service having returned from holiday starving and found that Fuchi (#1 rated in the area and our favourite) was closed. Reviews looked alright with the odd 2* rating so we gave it the benefit of the doubt and tried it. On the plus side, the phone was answered quickly, they said it would take 10 minutes and it was waiting for us when we arrived 10 minutes later. Impressed.

We recently visited the restaurant by chance after a long day out at the local theme park, we fancied a Chinese and passed so thought we would try our look.

A group of ten of us went here for meal and had an excellent time. They serve you all you want for a fixed price, just order it and they cook it...simple. They staff were very friendly and accomodating with our noisy group and did all they could to make our evening enjoyable. There's a great selection of dishes which was good as some of our group were quite selective with their orders. All requests were met with professionalism and a smile. The take away service was busy all night which I see as a reflection of the quality and reputation of this long established restaraunt. We will come here again.

Spontaneous Chinese night with my husband and son, Google’s Chinese buffet and this little gem popped up.... reviews looked good. Came in and from the minute we had entered we had been treated as if we had been before, very friendly as if we was part of the family. Couldn’t do enough for us, explained how to order, how to choose. They are very accommodating and attentive (pouring my bottle beer into the glass) asking if we needed anything.. this place is amazing, best Chinese we have been to.. the name says it all FAMILY HOUSE CHINESE, and this is exactly the service we received. Great value for money, fantastic service and AMAZING TASTING FOOD.

It was a time for my family of 8 to have a Chinese meal together. We chose to have the all you can eat deal which was £18 for a Saturday night. We placed a large of assorted starters which arrived nicely presented on a large platter and a few extra dishes. As soon as the food was finished a repeat order was requested. After this we all had the crispy duck followed by repeated order. Everyone chose their main course which was very good. Everyone really enjoyed the food and would like meet up later in the year. The restaurant offers a a large carte menu.

Family House is very much a family restaurant with three generations in hand the evening we dined there. It’s relaxed, friendly and homely.

The Family House was one of our favourite venues for end of term staff meals a good few years ago and so seemed a natural choice for a reunion dinner. We had a lovely welcome from the staff and the family who run the business. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was plentiful and excellent. We had starters, duck and pancakes and then a selection of main courses based on their buffet 'all you can eat' menu. Our bill came to about £30 per head including drinks and tips, which I thought was excellent value.

We had a wonderful evening at this long established restaurant which has greatly improved its menu since our last visit three years ago. We received a very warm welcome from the staff, who are mostly the owner's family, and they were extremely helpful in assisting us to navigate the very varied menu. All the options appeared delicious and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The food was as good as we'd hoped and a reasonable time was observed between courses instead of one course immediately following another. Great food, great service and great hospitality - overall a fabulous evening. Not particularly cheap but not unreasonable either. Thanks to all at the Family House for looking after us so well

Food was terrible the staff was so rude my partner was sick every where right outside the shop .waited over an hour for are food and the drinks were flat they were poured out of a 2 litre bottles and when I complained about them they were not happy at all to Change them

Comimos allí el sábado por la noche, ordenó 1 / 4 pato y fue chocante, no espero un barrio de pato para ser servido como carne seca desmenuzada de pila. No hay piel crujiente, no carne húmeda y un camarero hosco para arrancar. El plato principal era mejor. Evitar la caballeros, muy sucio y un extractor en el nivel de la cara totalmente lleno de suciedad y polvo, obviamente en el edificio en algún momento! ! Evitar.

All to can eat was good value for six of us. Staff were very friendly. Food was delicious.

Hemos pasado este restaurante de veces, cientos, pero nunca realmente ido hasta ahora. Tan pronto como entramos, nos bien cuidado por el equipo amable y excelente que nos aconsejó sobre el variado menú, y estuvieron atentos durante toda nuestra visita. Optamos por el "todo lo que puedas comer" opción de buffet, que era genial. Comida todo parecía fresco y bien presentado. Disfrutamos de una gran noche aquí a un precio muy razonable. Sin duda volveremos.
