Exelby Servcies - A19 Southbound in Hambleton

Went to the subway in the services…. SHOCKING SERVICE. The employees on shift, made rude remarks about being “southern” and in reflection, me. I was highly offended as they kept making insults, not what i want from my subway experience! WILL NEVER RETURN, THE TWO MEN WORKING SHOULD BE DISAPPOINTED.

Parked in the Lorry park at Exelby Services on the A19 Northbound. I paid my £18 for overnight parking. Sign on the slip road from the A19 says “24 Hours”. Had a sleep, then at around 10pm went to buy a drink and something to eat and to use the wc. Turns out that the forecourt’s shop is shut. I asked the lady behind the till if I could come in and she said that it shuts at 10pm. I said that I had paid to park in the HGV parking area overnight (I had a receipt for this) and she said that she would need to consult her list. I know that I was on the list because it had taken one of her colleagues quite a long time to put me on it and take my payment when I first arrived. She couldn’t find me on her list and I couldn’t find me on it either. Turns out this list is possibly not the only list but the lady doesn’t have a clue, eventually, when I show her my receipt she deigns to let me inside the shop area. There was no apparent hot food to be had in the shop. All that had been there earlier had either been removed or eaten by someone else. None of this nonsense (and certainly not my level of goodwill) was helped by the fact that the woman behind the counter appeared to be very put out by the fact that I wanted to avail myself of these services, which, let’s face it are pretty much a standard requirement for a “24 Hour” Service station. She spoke in such a whisper that she was almost inaudible behind the glass screen and she appeared to be both disinterested in and annoyed by my questions. It seems that once they have your parking fee Exelby Services have no further interest in you. I definitely will avoid using these services again. PS I had intended to fill up with fuel in the morning but, you know what - I think I’ll do that somewhere else!

15 minute wait for food while staff appeared to serve others not in line. Staff very rude and totally inefficient. Took so long we left before served.

Driving south to Norfolk, after an early start we needed somewhere for a 'loo and coffee' break. These services were signed off the road and when we arrive we were pleasantly surprised at the facilities offered. Apart from the usual 'loos', which were very clean, there was a self-service Costa coffee outlet, a manned Subway outlet and a fair-sized Londis supermarket. There was seating inside and there was also seating outside. To get your coffee, you first filled your chosen cup size and then paid for it at the Londis till point. This was a much-needed and welcome break from driving.
