Cementerio acuoso. El corte de pollo más barato. Horrendo.

After having a couple of wonderful takeaways we decided to venture out to eat on a miserable Saturday night. So glad we did- the welcome and the food warmed our cockles! Four of us had two huge sharing platters to start, four very generous mains with a couple of sides, four puds and two bottles of very acceptable red for a total of 25 quid each. It wasn't about quantity or value for money though. Everything was good. Our waitress was great, really friendly and efficient. The place was warm and welcoming with a really relaxed and pleasant ambiance, difficult to achieve on a miserable night when we were the only diners! The main attraction though was the food. Best saltfish fritters I've ever eaten, light, delicious and very moreish, best rice and peas EVER, fabulous oxtail, gorgeous rum cake...... I could go on, but think you may have the general idea. One of our party was so impressed he immediately booked a table for next week. It's a bit tucked away off the High Street, but once found you'll come back many times.

Beautiful tasty food would definitely go again small restaurant need another chef as they seemed a bit under pressure to get all food out at once but it's well worth the wait

Haven't sat down here yet, but have to strongly recommend the takeaway. It's brilliant! So far we've tried the chicken wings in Esme's hot sauce, salt fish fritters, curry goat, jerk chicken, oxtail, plantain and rice and peas. Absolutely everything is the best example of any we've ever tasted. It's not the fastest service in the world, but as everything is freshly cooked it's well worth the wait. Just try it.

I enjoy jerk chicken cooked Jamaican style. Esme's has mastered the art and I recommend this restaurant for the consistently high quality of all their meals and in particular their delicious jerk chicken and rice and peas.

Last Saturday, 20th August, 2016 I went down to Hockley Flyover for an innovative music festival staged beneath a grey, concrete urban road flyover. The brainchild of Soweto Kinch, it was a well Organised, well attended opportunity to experience live music, including rap, contemporary jazz and such like, of a high standard. The only food available was Esme's Carribean and it was outstanding. They have invented a new fusion street food, the Jerk Chicken Burrito...! A generous tortilla wheat wrap filled with classic rice n peas, delicious jerk chicken, creamy coleslaw and fried plantain. Spot on! I drizzled mine generously with hot,hot pepper sauce and it was a revelation. If this is what these guys can do as street food on the fly, I can't wait to try the restaurant....

It's a decent place but I personally don't like places where you have to scream during conversations because the music is so loud you should be wearing hearing protection. I mean it, your staff is at risk of getting their hearing damaged. So as a place to scream, dance and drink it's perfect. As a social place? No.

Went on a Sunday and have the Caribbean carvery. Paid £19 I believe. With £5 deposit each when booking online and that paid for drinks. I liked that we had the choice of 2 soft drinks rather than 1, for the alcoholic drinks one was allowed for each person with a paid deposit. We went for the rum punch which normally cost £8.00 something but we got it for £5 with the deposit accounting for it. The rum was definitely in it which was good as you feel you’re getting your moneys worth. I did want it weaker and so the waitress (the only one serving! Well done for that) kindly gave me a glass of orange juice which worked well for me. My partner enjoyed the original strength of his drink though. The food provided a big plate and I like that you could have meat and fish. The food was okay. For example unfortunately the plantain I had was dry. Nonetheless I enjoyed the time there and staff were friendly.

We met some friends here on a Saturday for some drinks. After being there for about an hour (6pm), the manager came up and asked us to leave imminently. There was a 30th birthday party taking place, and people were waiting outside to enter. At no point was we aware upon arrival that this was the case, especially when we had just ordered a round of drinks. if we knew this, we would have gone somewhere else and settled down for the night.
