RUDEST staff that I have even encountered in London. NEVER going back again. (coffee and food is decent as it was not my first time there). I am local in Belsize Park and England's Lane was my go to place to meet up with friends (approx. once a month). On a Saturday morning (end of Nov 2024) I have set down for a quick coffee with a friend that I have not seen in a while. I also had an iPad with me a wanted to show my friend some images of my place that I had renovated recently. We are waiting for 10min for someone to take our order, than all of a sudden a lady comes over, being rude and disrespectful, made an assumption without even talking us and scolds us like kids in the nursery. Me: Hi morning, can we get two cappuccinos please? Manager/Waiter starts with: Are you going to stay here long? I can see what you are doing, you are doing work while on Saturday we have a clear and strict no work policy!!! I hope you are not going to stay here all day!!! Me: (looking in awe and confused) We have just sat down 10 min ago for a quick coffee, we are not doing any work, just showing my friend some images of my apartment. Manager/Waiter: Well it looks like work, we do not allow iPads or Laptops or whatever you have there on the table! Anyway... Ok, I will take your order but do not stay long! Me: Can we get two coffees in a takeaway cups please? Manager/Waiter: Ok (rolling her eyes and leaving the table). My friend felt very disrespected, thought had something with their looks or their ethnicity. I had to apologise to my friend, we got up, I paid for the coffees at the counter and left...

Nice enough coffee shop, good vibe and nice decor, although I did have a slightly pastry. But one unforgivable thing is the hidden 12.5% service charge. You can order at the bar and it will still be added without a mention. Please pay your staff a fair wage and then put the cost into the advertised price of goods. Don’t hide some their salary in the service charge.

I always take serving dishes seriously. Even if it is very tasty, but in a basin or saucepan – the inner aesthete does not allow you to try. This restaurant has made me fall in love with myself once and for all. The dishes, cutlery, glasses are perfect. It's nice to taste the chef's masterpieces, savoring every bite.

Disappointed with a few things. Food took a long time to arrive. The chicken and bacon bagel was an extremely dry, bland and an oversized mess. The spinach that came with the Eggs Benedict had a very odd taste. Customer service wasn’t very welcoming or warm. Only thing that was nice was their freshly squeezed orange juice. I think it is fair to say I won’t be returning.

So glad I stumbled upon this place and had wonderful food and a good time before continuing to fight fires. I couldn’t fully focus because I had to checking messages and answering calls, dealing with the flat-hunting nightmare caused by Draker 😱 The food was fresh, well presented, and delicious. Look at the turmeric latte, literally on another level! The service is good but a bit slow, maybe because of the Saturday late morning rush hours. Recommend if you live nearby, it was the highlight of my first week back in London after a super stressful time because my flat deal was screwed by the unprofessional and worst real estate agent on earth at Draker. (By the way, just stay away from Draker lettings-real estate agents.)

Used to love Englands lane but now the staff here are honestly TERRIBLE & a NIGHTMARE! Avoid this place if you don’t want to have a horrible experience, very mean and do not even acknowledge you as a human being. Seriously the worst service I have ever experienced in Primrose Hill as a local & this has happened last several times! There are plenty of other cafes I would recommend right next door including the French pastry sable dor & ARVO on regents high street. To the owners of this place please show some kindness to your customers and train your staff to be the same! Never coming here again and highly would discourage anyone from visiting here.

One of the worst places to have food. The service is terrible. We sat upstairs and no one cared to check on us. My friend asked for an extra slice of toast which took more than 20 minutes to arrive. The dishes were disgustingly dirty and I had to ask the waitress to change them. For the price we had been charged for we expected to get better quality and service. We had been charged extra too which they removed from our bill.

Used to love Englands lane but the service just makes everything an unpleasant experience. We arrived 14:48 and were immediately told if we wanted to order we’d need to do so before 3pm. So we immediately got up walked 5 seconds to the counter only for the other waitress to refuse to take our order claiming that the kitchen is closed…so not sure what to make of that … ended up what turned out to be a lame iced coffee and a pastry-which was okay. EL definitely needs to do better there’s so many great places out there. Anyway, that will be my last EL visit I’ve had enough with the cold service.

We have both dined in and had takeout from England's lane over the years as we live in the area, the takeout waiting time had always ended up being a shock - 5-10mins for just a coffee or a cake takeaway, 15-20mins for when we ordered hot food. The waiting time when dining in was also quite long, but we usually went there to chill during the weekends so was not too terrible. The young girls working there at times seemed quite overwhelmed. Better staff training and management would really benefit England's lane's long term business. As locals in the area we have progressivelly started to shift our positive impression on England's lane to negative now. If the consistant increase in price (£5-7 for just a slice of cake these days) is just down to inflation and can be justisfied, the consistant poor service is really putting old customers off.

Cute place for coffee of brunch. They have a simple and easy meant and a good selection cakes. They have vegan options. However, if you have a gluten allergy (I.e. celiac) there is no option that guarantees that it won’t be cross-contaminated. My friend managed to make the simplest order (after enquiring about the gf options) only for her order to come with normal bread on the side… the service needs to up their game and better listen/ cater to intolerances.

Literally the grumpiest rudest staff that exists. The only reason this place is still in business is because of it’s location. The short-haired, dark-haired manager is the rudest of all. We came in 5 minutes to close and she rushed us out of there without giving us the chance to even consider options. And that’s the second time she has been rude which is why I’m leaving this review. Overpriced and under-delivered on quality. This is from several experiences eating there. It was much better when it was the smaller cafe focused on brioche in various guises. Recently ordered French toast. It looked glorious on the outside but the egg was runny inside and uncooked and it really ruined the taste. The waiter insisted they don't use egg and everyone else loves it but was happy to change it too. Overall would be much better and certainly at their prices.

Average - would be three stars if the prices weren't so high (setting a much higher expectation). The good: nice decor/ambience, the cakes looked lovely, and the coffee was quite good. The bad: The main food was really poor based on our visit - poached eggs almost hard boiled, and the thin slice of salmon on (randomly) brioche toast all amounted to an underwhelming, over-priced dish for £13. My partner's was better but small portion and felt very much like something that could be easily whipped up at home. The servers were unfriendly, one didn't say a word when taking our order, no apology for the over-cooked eggs (which they did replace but arrived after I'd nearly finished the toast / it was cold). Really, mistakes like that they should replace the whole dish or remove from the bill. Wish I'd challenged the service charge - if we all did this maybe they'd improve the service.

The good: the food was nice, good quality smoked salmon and good coffees The not-so-good: service was terrible, I had a waitress look directly at me after she had taken a coffee to the wrong table and I asked if maybe it was mine. It took a very long time for our food to come out - eggs royale and sweet corn fritters - and others who arrived after us got their food first. When the eggs royale arrived, the poached eggs were hard boiled - they had clearly been left to overcook and were left sitting for a while. To top it off, the price was extortionate for what if was- 3 coffees, two egg royales and sweetcorn fritters came to about £56! And they did not tell us service charge was included, nor was this evident on the receipt. We had to work it out for ourselves as the numbers did not add up. I think they overcharge because they think they CAN, due to being in primrose hill and customer service needs a good looking into. We will not be coming back here.
