Ella Canta in City of London, Westminster

Really good Mexican food, I have been in Mexico with my boyfriend and I have to say that although it is very difficult to find authentic Mexican food like in the place of origin, this restaurant offers quite decent options such as huarache or michoacan style carnitas

The only impressive thing about this restaurant is its ambience and location. I would normally leave a well detailed account of my visit to a highly acclaimed restaurant like this, but I found the dining experience too disappointing. All I can remember of the evening is 'guacamole with everything.' I really do love avocado, but there is a point when it simply becomes too much. Every dish ordered came with guacamole featuring as a sizeable portion of it, which in my opinion, does not constitute value for money. The cocktail ordered was way too sour, which was easily remedied by the addition of extra sugar syrup. Sadly, Ella Canta does not make my list of memorable dining experiences.

My husband took me to Ella Canta for my birthday and we were really blown away by the customer service...probably one of our best experiences ever. All of the staff were friendly, charming and fun. They put you at ease and went out of their way to help. I was pregnant when we visited and so far my experience of restaurants had been disappointing. Often there would be no or very few alcohol-free drinks options and the waiter would struggle to advise on what was ok to eat. At Ella Canta our waiter was exceptional...he listed off various AF cocktails and explained the bar could also created a bespoke cocktail (it was very much a case of what would I like and they'd come up with something, rather than these are your one or two options) and was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and understood exactly what I could and couldn't have, explaining how the dishes were cooked to alleviate any concerns. What was most impressive was how relaxed and easygoing he was, he didn't make me feel at all awkward or difficult. The food was very good, too - beautifully cooked and presented. We look forward to going back.

My fiancee is vegetarian and I'm not, so finding a restaurant which has a wide choice is often difficult. Wow this place lives up to its reputation with a feast for all your senses. The menu has a wide selection with a lot of choice which catered for both of us. We ordered a lot as we wanted to try as much as possible and it was a special occasion. Dishes that stood out for us were the guacamole, halloumi fries and the churros. The service was great, our waiter was very knowledgeable who selected great cocktails and a reasonably priced wine to go with our dinner. As we were there for so long our waiter did swap over and we noticed a slight drop in the level of service and attentiveness, which wasn't too much of an issue as we were coming to the end of our dinner. I did specify 'birthday occasion' when booking and they came out with a little birthday surprise, which we thought we might not get as it took a long time from finishing our deserts. But it's these little touches we really appreciate. Highly recommend this restaurant if you love Mexican food and love cocktails even more! We will be back, maybe for the boozy brunch!

What a lovely spot in London. I’ve been here a few times now and can comfortably say in quality of food, this is the best Mexican place in town at the moment. The flavour is extraordinary, and for once, a Mexican place in the UK is able to get the spice right on there food (provided you ask!) clearly the best quality ingredients are being used and cooked by the best chefs, and the drinks are fantastic! Service staff are very very welcoming and friendly and they make effort to treat you better each time you visit. I would comfortably recommend it

Went here with my girl mates for a Saturday bottomless brunch. We had booked for 2pm and seated. They were patient with us considering one of my mates was running late. The way it works is that they have four flavours of margaritas that they bring out one after another and you then can order the one you like. My favourite was the mango and passion fruit one. We Had three courses, for mains I had the octopus tostada which was delicious. For mains I had the beef short rib, small portion but was stunning. For me the dessert of the three milk cake was the highlight. Would definitely recommend this place..service with drinks was a little slow and the drinks were slightly watered down, however would come back as the food is delicious.

A really lively place to enjoy excellent Mexican food (not TexMex)and margaritas. Would really like to return but so many places to try.

Food: absolutely delicious. Although it seems pricey, because you share everything, the end cost is less than you expect which is a pleasant surprise. The Beef in the Mains section of the menu is sensational. We also enjoyed the pork and the duck, fish was nice but could live without. The halloumi fries were excellent, and the rice.... mmmmm. Highly recommend. Oh and the churros for dessert was also lovely. Service: overall good and attentive. I did have a long wait in between drinks and had to ask a second tome which was frustrating but overall good. Setting: atmosphere was good, beautiful decor. If you were a couple, you might get disheartened by the groups of men sat on their phones not talking, but go as a group and you won’t notice. Saw a couple of large round tables too which would be excellent for bigger group bookings eg 10 people. Would recommend. Paid about £65 per head in our group for those on soft drinks, and about £105 per head for those drinking wine and 2 cocktails each.

This is my second time there, the food has always been interesting and tasty. The staff will help with recommendations on both the food and drink. The music is great background stuff that gets you in the mood for a fun time. Pricing is reasonable for the area, especially given the gold grasshopper which is worth trying just for the experience. We went as a couple but would work just as well if not better as a group. We'll definitely be back again

We had friends visiting and Ella Canta popped up on OpenTable, great reviews and the food looked amazing. Warm welcome and the menu was explained by Julia, who took such great care of us guiding us and giving us great recommendations about the food and the drinks. The food was superb, fabulous ambience and impeccable service 👍🏻 later we moved to the bar where Roberto did some awesome mixing up to our taste. Definitely will be back! My husband and I stayed at the Intercon for a few days for work and pleasure. We had the opportunity to try Ella Canta and were so pleased with our experience. The restaurant ambiance is cozy and warm, the service attentive (If you're lucky, you'll have Leonitis and Dorena). We started with the cocktail menu and enjoyed two of the most creative margaritas I've ever had (and I'm not usually a fan). I'd go back just for those. We were fortunate to speak with the manager that evening, who offered to walk us through some outstanding menu choices. Although everything exceeded our expectations, a few dishes stood out. The octopus and shrimp starters were excellent, the Carnitas de cerdo and Sea Bream were sublime. By dessert, we could barely breathe, but couldn't pass up an opportunity to sample Maria traveling from Tabasco, De Tres Leches, and the churros. We plan on returning to try everything else on the menu when we're back in London. This isn't your mom's neighborhood Mexican restaurant. It's a culinary adventure.

We came as a table of 6 a Saturday evening. The good: Our waiter was lovely (unfortunately I don’t remember his name). Cocktails were ok. The bad: The problem of the evening was it took so long to get drinks for every round we ordered (and we ordered mainly beers). It would take some 20+ minutes to get our drinks post-ordering. We had to wait for our main course for over 40 minutes (2 hours into our booking and we hadn’t received a main course). No one came to notify us of the wait or apologise during the wait. I complained to one lady after about 40min and she was very helpful and kind. 10min after our first complaint regarding the food service, the manager (tall blonde woman) come to apologise for the delay. This was a more infuriating experience as she simply apologised, didn’t provide any explanation for the delay nor did she suggest any compensation (for example, your food will be with you shortly and can I get you a round of drinks on the house?). This is terrible communication by the manager- she was not customer service oriented or friendly and held an attitude. Our waiter came up to us after the food arrived and apologised and said they would do something for us. When we received our bill, no one notified us of how we had been “taken care of”, as promised by two different waiters. It turned out, they had comped one round of drinks. I appreciate this but found this to be poor effort for the amount of time we had to wait overall and the inconvenience of the whole evening. Although the food is good, I won’t be coming back here any time soon nor can I truly recommend it to anyone else.

Amazing brunch, with free flowing strong cocktails!!! If you’re not a fan of tequila then possibly opt for the sparking wine, however this will change for your whole table! A bit disappointing as we didn’t have the DJ on even though advertised, but once the drinks start flowing it wasn’t a problem! The food is to die for and spicy!! This is a must in London if you want to treat yourself to a superb mexican meal. The food is delicious and they always accommodate my gluten free vegan eating preferences. I have been almost a dozen times and every time it has been brilliant. The staff seem to recognise me now and remember my eating preferences. The design of this restaurant is brilliant, and I love going there. Even the English Breakfast tea we had at brunch is the best tea I have had in London. This was a pleasant surprise.
