Eli's Deli and Pastelaria in Newham

One of the best pasteis ive ever ate, and im from Brazil! :) Will definetly come back for the cheese and ham one!

Brazilian Cheesy Pastel de queijo from Eli’s Deli & Pastelaria Size matters, so when I saw this huge Brazilian Pastel I had to get it. There were various fillings: beef, chicken and cheese so I chose cheese. Pastel is basically a fried parcel with filling! The ones at Eli's Deli looked really uniform as it was a perfect rectangle with straight edges. Overall, my cheese pastry was really nice and the cheese had a salty kick to it but not on the cheesy side with a mozzarella cheese pull texture. Definitely recommended. As well as pastels, they have cooked food where you can get what you want and priced by weight.

I bought a coxinha but I didn't like it.

My husband (who lived in Sao Paulo) for a year) suggested I visit this place to try a pastel. I had a beef and cheese one and thought it was tasty - they’re also massive (about the size of an A5 piece of paper!). The little shop full of Brazilian deli products is also good. To find it, head to the Market Village area of the shopping centre, towards the Pure Gym. The Market Village itself is a really interesting place to visit - feels quite unusual for London with lots of different cultures running shops and cafes there. Worth a visit if you want to see an alternative side to London.
