Great for Afternoon Tea. Huge, warm scones with Jam and cream. Sat outside, overlooking golf course.

Bitterly disappointed with the afternoon tea we had. We were the only ones there for afternoon tea (which should have alerted us to the fact that this was not going to be nice). The sandwiches still had bits of crust remaining and we had to cut them to share the different fillings. The carrot cake was a "tray bake" style and totally inedible as it was so dry, along with the Bakewell slice and lemon cake. The scones were so-so. We couldn't wait to finish and leave it was so disappointing.

Major disappointment. Wrong high tea given. ( the one we ordered with our choice was given to someone else) . Scones tasted horrible. Burst tea bags in both tea pots. They apologised and gave us a selection of mini desserts that should have been ours anyway. Only thing that was nice was the profiteroles. Brownies were hard like they have just been taken out of a packet or many days old. Cheesecake was vile. Over heard one of the bar staff answering another about who the order was for for them to reply in full view of everyone ‘ the old lady outside’ now that is completely disrespectful on all counts. How dare they refer to a paying customer like that! Absolutely hated it. Certainly will never recommend. This was a special post mothers day treat from my daughter to me. It was noisy and just horrid.

We stayed here for New Years Eve dinner and dance evening. Lovely room very large with great views over the golf course. We were seated on a round table with eight other guests fortunately we all got on really well and had a good time. The food was incredible served very quick and hot by lovely young men and women. The disco was great music suited for the age range. At 12 midnight we were given a glass of prosecco and a very large cheese board crackers grapes celery and mince pies. In the morning breakfast was very good everything you needed. All in all a very pleasant evening and we shall be back this year.

After paying an average price for a short Spa break, knowing nothing of the place at all, we were blown away by the value-for-money! The hotel was clean, welcoming and charmingly decorated, our rooms were huge, the service everywhere was outstanding, the staff friendly and excellent, the food AMAZING! I would highly recommend this place to anyone, and will definitely be returning!

I visited the brasserie for lunch during a spa day and on the whole it was ok. Although it was like a ghost town. I sat at my seat, there were no other guests and I didn't see a waitress for at least 5 minutes and after being told my food would be ready on my arrival, I then had to wait for 20 minutes to actually get it . Then, as I sat and ate a ploughman's (the food was delicious) I could hear some staff very loudly chatting in the next room but still saw no one except once when a lady stuck her head round the door to see if I was ok. When I had finished, no one came to bring the bill so I had to go and find someone. As I said, on the while it was ok and the fact that the food was so tasty was it's saving grace. I would recommend but not if you are on your own as it feels a bit isolated.

I have been a member of the Oasis Leisure club at this local Hotel and Golf Club on the edge of Dartmoor for several years, but have not sampled the Hotel restaurant for quite some time.Under a relatively recent change of ownership, the whole place is undergoing a gradual refurbishment, including the restaurant which is scheduled to reopen in 3-4weeks. Hence when we arrived for dinner last night, 21 January, we were shown to our table which was in a screened off area of the main bar/brasserie. It was a quiet night probably not helped by the weather (it was pouring down)! However, we were given a very warm welcome by the staff and got stuck into our first bottle of Argentinian Malbec (£19) which was very good quality. We ordered from the set menu (two courses for £19.95 or three courses for £23.95). We both had the duck pate with port and brandy chutney followed by pork tenderloin (perfectly cooked just slightly pink) and finishing with chocolate torte with a scoop of delicious chocolate chip ice-cream and a white chocolate grenache. All served by Claire who was a credit to the place as she was also manning the bar!! Overall, we were very pleasantly surprised with the overall standard of the cuisine which was excellent. The hotel itself is in a lovely rural position in a wooded valley a couple of miles from Plympton and about 6 miles north of Plymouth City Centre and a great base from which to tour Dartmoor. It has a very undulating but very attractive 18 hole golf course, large indoor swimming pool with two jaccuzis, steam room and sauna and a well equipped gym and glass backed squash court. Strongly recommended.

Four of us ate here mid week, two burgers and two ploughman and several beers. Food prices fine, but carlsberg at £3.80 was dear! It was very quiet when we were there, but then again it was a winter midweek visit.

A group of us booked to play golf at Elfordleigh which was good the course in pretty fair condition. The problems came with the food. We wished to include some non golfers for the meal afterwards but were told we would have to pay £35:00 for lasagne and Chips! This was the cost including golf but could not be reduced for a meal only. This meant they lost out on five extra meals. On top of this strange decision we then had to wait an hour and a quarter for the lasagne and chips, which were quite small portions.

I work for the police and our Christmas meal is much awaited and looked forward to throughout the year. My colleagues and I work a highly stressful job and have experienced a number of tragedies within our own team this year, so I really cannot stress enough the importance of this party and us all being able to come together and let our hair down. The planning in terms of shifts was difficult to say the least. We were promised a meal and a disco. Now I have to be fair, the meal was nice and the service was good also. What was not so good was that we were sharing the facility with another group who had organised their own entertainment in the form of a female 'hypnotist' who was incredibly rude and vulgar. Now don't get me wrong, we police staff have a filthy sense of humour - this is what enables us to do our jobs, but this woman was just awful! We were initially told by management that the woman was booked for a 45 minute slot which of course we could stomach as we were happy to wait for the chance to be able to let our hair down and have a dance. It was not to be, the woman was on stage for nearly 3 hours before our complaints were finally taken notice of by management- at which point the hypnotist who was clearly drunk became confrontational and my colleagues had to step in to prevent a fight! Needless to say she eventually left but not before the other party comandeered the microphone and made derogatory comments about us. Well after much complaining to the manager our monies were refunded as our night was ruined. Now monies are all well and good but we can't get that night back, that one night that WE were supposed to be able to let our hair down and relax and have down time after a truly awful year. We will most certainly look to book somewhere else next year but we have another 365 days to wait for that...

This is a true hidden gem - awesome value £12.45 for three courses on a Sunday lunchtime! Incredible, but it gets better: the food quality, range, taste and presentation do not come second place to the price. The service is also very good. We have eaten here on many occasions, and the standard has always been very high. Only minor niggles, like decor bit tired. However, at this price, and with this quality and service, we are not complaining!

We went for a meal 2weeks ago. I ordered baked Brie, which was just warm, instead of being soft and creamy it was solid in the centre, but not worth complaining about. Main course I had haddock with mussels. The haddock was lukewarm and the mussels were cold so I sent it back, when it came out again the mussels were just tepid. I offered it to the cat, but he even turned it down so it must have been bad. The barman was very pleasant and apologetic, but I said to him "tell the chef not to give up his day job as he can't cook". The next day I decided to send an e-mail to the hotel relating the above, my thoughts being, if they don't know there is a problem they can't rectify it, but they haven't bothered to acknowledge the e-mail let alone reply. Surely they must realise that without guests/customers they would have no jobs.

Dropped in for a casual lunch and had an amazing jerk chicken wrap with plantain on the side. The team were friendly and welcoming but the real star was the jerk chicken wrap that I'll be getting a lot more of in the not too distant.

Last Saturday (9th Nov), we booked a table for a large group (18 people) for our Grandma's 90th birthday. Extended family came from all over the UK to celebrate her milestone and catch up after a long while not seeing each other. We had a wonderful evening and think it's worth telling you how great it was and why. Not only did the menu suit a very mixed bag of preferences with such variety, but it catered so well to our coeliac 7 year old niece. This is so important and great - there's often only a few options for her in various eateries and as she's so young, she can feel left out/sad about this. Her face lit up when she saw the option to have gluten-free calamari (her favourite!) and the team also went above and beyond by offering to make one of the not advertised GF options (halloumi burger) GF. Also on the food generally, everyone absolutely loved their dishes (the steaks went down very well and were cooked to perfection!). Also as a long-term tee-totaller I want to commend you on the range of alcohol-free options you have on offer, loved the AF Riesling! Now to Gordy. He was our main server for the night and made the night! He was friendly and welcoming, accommodating and patient with our rabble and incredible with our three little-uns. He was also so kind and funny with all of us, particularly our Grandma - he went out of his way to check in with her/make her laugh and make her feel special through the night. He also noted our 7 year old niece reading Harry Potter after dinner and made a point of telling her and my brother/sister in law how beautiful it is to see a child reading in a restaurant (presumably there's often a lot of phones/tablets involved!) - just demonstrating how attentive and lovely he is! Thank you team, and Gordy in particular, for such a lovely evening all round. We've been many times before and it is always great, but this one was a massive highlight. Will definitely be back! My nieces christening was hosted here and the buffet was hands down the best I have ever had. Such variety and presented to an incredible standard. They even made the most beautiful and tastiest cake. We highly recommend La Bouche for any events where you need a great spread. thanks to all the staff there and Liz for her friendly service x
