Elephants Head in Camden

This pub had a nice atmosphere HOWEVER one of the staff members was really rude and aggressive to me. I had never experienced such bad treatment from an employee in the past and it really shocked me. Reading other reviews I am not the only person who has experienced bad service from this place. There are so many other better pubs in Camden.

First stop on our London vacation. Great service and good drinks. Thank you for the warm welcome.

While I was with friends talking to security before we entered the bar, bartender came out and asked us from where we are. When we said country we are from he started waving in our faces with hands simulating eagle and asking us if we know what that means while laughing. We didn’t bother to come in after that, highly unprofessional and unprovoked from him to put his hands literally in our faces as he was one asking us from where we are and it’s not like we came and started provoking him or saying anything, he was one who started talking to us first and asking questions. He came to us and started putting his hands in our faces for no reason.

Guy serving has a massive attitude. Total sarcasm for no reason and just unpleasant. He literally threw the card machine on the bar and wandered off. Visited several bars in Camden Town, this was the only bad one!

A full English style pub with live music in the middle of the wonderful Camden town.

Loved this pub in Camden. Was meant to see Amy Winehouse in Belfast but it was one of the concerts she cancelled way back. Well, at least now I've walked over the same threshold and had a pint in one of her locals. Made it up for me.

Good atmosphere, was packed when I visited. Toilets need a good cleaning though, very dirty, and no toilet roll.

Returning to this place after more than 15 years brought me great nostalgia! Here I first saw Amy W! It was one of his favorite pubs, he would sit in the corner at a table with his friends and people around him and talk to him at the same time! I was sitting with my beer watching her and we looked at each other and she smiled at me! It made me want to hold her hand and rescue her from all those people who ordered drinks and that she would surely pay everyone's bill in the end 😕 this place is and will always be special to me! You can't miss this pub! It's a classic and the staff is very friendly and I like the music 🤟🏽 you can try the local beer! And it's close to the entire shopping area!

Hemos estado aquí antes para tomar algo en el día y es un bar ok. Sin embargo, queremos el sábado por la noche, alrededor de las 10 pm y nos pidieron identificación! Soy una mujer de 42 años con un hijo en su adolescencia, es muy obvio que soy mayor de 18 años. Portero muy grosero, declarado sería el mismo en todas partes y se negó rotundamente a dejarnos entrar. Salimos y fuimos al pub unas puertas más abajo, que nos recibió cálidamente y rápidamente nos dejó entrar para tomar unas copas!

If you want to watch bar staff play fight eachother instead of serving you, this is THE pub to go to. Getting service took longer than it should have, the barstaff hadn't realised their coke syrup had gone even though it was obvious by the colour or lack of in the drink and took us 5 minutes to grab their attention to let them know. It's a shame to see a nice pub go to waste, one of my partners favourite pubs (not anymore - we didn't even see a regular which says enough).

I love this place but I think it's a bit ridiculous that they wanted to see my driving license which I don't carry with me. Not sure why a 61 year old bloke needs to show ID

This pub is a gem in the heart of Camden, offering an incredible atmosphere filled with awesome metal vibes, live DJ. Every visit is a fantastic experience, whether enjoying a drink or soaking in the music. The staff are friendly, and the decor perfectly captures the metal spirit. We always have a great time here!

Discriminatory bouncers/ door staff. Didn't let us in for no other reason than they didn't like the look of us. Disgusting.

A nice pub with a nice atmosphere in Camden, always somewhere we visit when in the area for a drink, worth a visit.

Great fun, very lively disco, with proper old school party vibe. Bar staff really enjoyed their jobs and were super attentive and helpful. The security guard gave us some smooth moves to James Brown.

We came upon the elephants head on a walk around Camden, the atmosphere,staff,music and all round feeling was brilliant! Would highley recommend over the Hawley!

One of the few boozers left in Camden that feels authentic, and still puts on live music. Recommended.

As a regular customer and neighbour working in Camden Market I was treated to a total disgrace by the bar staff today. A short girl with glasses who didn't know how to serve a gin and tonic. I had my drinks in small glasses when I asked for larger glasses as they should be for such drinks. The girl said she had to charge us extra for this. When I pointed out with my finger that we still had half a full bottle of tonic and the correct way to drink this drink was to pour the gin and then pour the tonic into the bottle. The girl poured the tonic into our already full drinks which resulted in the drinks being spilled on the bar and then she just flicked the empty bottles and we could hear the glass breaking , absolutly horrible , The girl was extremely rude. And the client customer service to 0. As I mentioned I work at Camden Market and I will make sure that everyone finds out about this extremely unpleasant experience. I hope the girl gets fired , thank god the manager and the security guys were nice enough to calm us down , because we’re proper furious. What a shame , an iconical place in Camden gets such poor staff .

After attending a concert at the Roundhouse, we stopped into this quaint pub for a few beers. A great atmosphere with friendly staff. A great evening with friends in a British atmosphere.

The service there is so bad you wouldn’t be able to taste the food or get the slightest buzz out of the beer. Wouldn’t recommend.

We came in mid-morning to ask if we could reserve a table to eat. They reluctantly responded to us, almost without looking us in the face, that they did not serve food (I don't know if only that day, or never...) and that they did not reserve anything for us. Without further ado, they continued their tasks and left us there. The pub is nice and is in an unbeatable area if you visit Camden market, but the service we received was terrible. Logically we went, since they invited us to do so.

Very very slow service, took 15 minutes to bring menus and then another 15 minutes to take our order. The poor waitress was on her own and overworked. Food was nice, but not worth the long wait

It's clear the staff don't want to work here. Two bar persons ignored me waiting including one member of staff biting his finger nails and spitting them on the floor over serving me and my wife, when he eventually served us, my wifes cider glass had lip marks around it and it took her ages to get a straw out of mr charisma. One lad who worked there, worked the entire time with his airpods in, while another was busy adding toilet roll and soap to the ladies as there was none, amazing at 2.30 in the afternoon. Didn't use the toilets, didn't have food (no idea if they do food but I'm not brave enough to try it) We left our drinks obviously. I hate to say it, but avoid this place. It once was a great pub and I remember having a traditional English breakfast to the sound of Beatles songs. It's all gone now and just a good beer left.

Stopped in while visiting the area from the US. Actually, a friend we made at a couple of places brought us, and recommended it as a locals hangout. He was right! The place was jumping on a Sunday night, and we had a blast!

It's quite surprising how much this place has changed, especially from when I was a supervisor here during Ann and Vince's tenure. It was disappointing to be turned away at the door for the first time ever, being told "it's full," when in fact, the venue was half empty. We just wanted to enjoy a drink for old times' sake as It was almost a year since my last visit to Camden. I'm not sure if this was just an arbitrary decision by the security staff or a new business policy, but either way, there was no good reason for denying us entry. We were completely sober. Could it be because we are in our mid-30s? Perhaps they prefer a younger crowd that might not spend as much. If this is a business policy, it shows a lack of understanding of what this venue is capable of. If it was the security's decision, then management needs to take action, as it's costing you valuable business. It's truly a shame to see such a great venue potentially losing its way.

Old dirty dump but barstaff are cool

Would of been a great experience as the pub is quirky and chilled - ruined by the server who was extremely rude, cut off my dad mid sentence and overall was an extremely awkward experience before we even had ordered our drinks not sure of his name but truly made us want to leave the moment we entered

Bar snacks, quick drinks, friendly tenders, sometimes a bit crowded but defo worth it! No entry after 1.am.

Bartender clearly doesn’t know what personal hygiene is with those long nails, not really what you want when they’re handling something you’re gonna drink out of. And to top it all off he was very rude, shame they don’t wear name tags so you know his name.

Whilst Camden becomes more and more corporate, The Head remains true to the old, real Camden.

Great pub, with a nice ambience and music selection (I walked in after hearing some Michael Jackson in the distance). Unfortunately, I was racially assaulted within 15 minutes of arriving. A bouncer, in the belief that I had somehow attempted to “sneak in” through the smoking area (I had bought 2 pints) grabbed my by my hood and dragged me out of the pub as I walked back inside to use the toilet. He justified it with “all these road men coming in”. I am a woman, 5”3, the force was disproportionate and I was sober. After the incident, I was asked by his colleague to delete his identification information from my phone to re-enter. After another protest, I was allowed to re-enter without any conditions:

One of the only bars in London open til 2 am on a Sunday! The staff are absolutely lovely! Even the bouncers are lovely. Solomon is a treat and was watching my drunk everytime I went out to smoke. Very attentive and observant. As a single female traveller it's nice to feel watched for. Absolutely gems. I left my phone behind on the bar kind of tucked away in the corner by accident. Obviously now a days losing your phone is on another level. I'm not from London I'm here visiting. So plane tickets banking everything I would need. and as a side note some very special photos of loved ones who have passed that I couldn't get back. I was in shock and panic as I never put my phone down like that. And one of the loveliest cutest bartenders had grabbed it and tucked it behind the bar. It was the most relief I've ever felt. So thank you so much for paying attention when I clearly wasn't your my hero and you saved my life I wouldn't have even known how to get home after. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in London. I wish I could remember the bartenders name I feel like it's Christian but I was so overtaken with relief I might be wrong. But either way I Fu©£ing love you.

We had a drink in the evening, great typical pub atmosphere.

Always a pleasure, never a pain

We took shots and drank stout to the music from the jukebox until our faces were glued to each other. The bartender gives good recommendations and pours. DJ weekends must be cool. It was quiet during the week.

When I visited The Elephant's Head I was particilarly charmed by its Victorian-style decor, which adds a unique, historical ambiance to Camden's vibrant pub scene. I've added it to my barguide.london site too!

went on a Saturday, thought it would be impossible to find a seat but I guess not. it was quite busy tho . no dj but they were playing old bangers. Bartenders are friendly and orders were accurate. got 2 double rum and mixers came to £17 which isn't bad. Overall great vibe will go again ✨️

A Camden classic, that despite changing with the times is still going strong! May not be the same it used to be but neither is Camden.

We tried to get in but was not allowe even though 3 people where allowed in before me. The security said it is his territory.

So disappointed last night. Been going here to have a good dance for years. I thought it was rubbish after Covid when it was just a playlist but then the 2 old boys came back with their vinyl and everything was great. But last night I can’t begin to tell you how crap it was. DJ meant to start at 10 but he was late which is just rude. After faffing about greeting his friends he finally put a record on. Never heard of it and by the reaction of other drinkers they hadn’t either. The first 3 songs appeared to be unknown by anyone. Then a Monkees song, can’t go wrong there, then another unknown!! I lasted an hour with the stop start disjointed music. Please bring back the old boys. They could read the room and played music accordingly.

The crew and the demand is excelent. Local craft beers and “the best” Guinness in Camden. (Because they clean the pipes every day). Bacause we were tourist the barman give a taste from every local beer and after that he asked us where are we from. And finally, after a long conversation in English, it turned out that we could speak the same language.
