Went for a family walk and come to the Elephant and Castle. Fantastic food, service and friendly Manor. Would 100% recommend to family and friends to come here. Kid friendly with a lovely play park and great selection for kids and adults on the menu. Craft ales and larger's. Thank you so much for making a great family lunch

Popped in with some friends and was met with lovely smile and greeting from the bar staff. The pub was busy but we were able to get a lovely table in the restaurant. After a couple drinks we decided to order some food of which I got the ham, egg and chips. This was the best ham I’ve ever tasted !! The chef must be very proud of himself and I made a point of telling him how amazing it was. My friends had burgers and they were cooked to perfection with generous portion of chips. It wasn’t very expensive but I would happily pay more. We then all took part in the pub quiz which was executed perfectly with lots of laughs and head scratches. Kitchen staff and bar staff should be very proud of themselves. Me and my friends will be back ASAP !!

Our family ate here early one evening and whilst the staff were very friendly and helpful once we were seated, we were ignored for the first 15 minutes after arriving by the young man behind who was completely pre-occupied with trying to process his previous customers order. As the evening went on the staff became more friendly, helpful and attentive and were charming. When the food arrived one item was wrong, but we accepted it anyway. However the quality of the food and cooking was very poor as the burgers were over cooked, burnt and tough like a piece of old shoe leather. All in all a disappointing experience that we won’t be rushing to repeat any time soon.

It's a lovely Local for the community. The children's play ground consists of two plastic slides and a plastic Wendy House in a small enclosed outdoor area. There's also colouring pencils and sheets of paper and board games inside. The food is home cooked. Just not sure if it's home made as change cannot be made for taste buds. Vegetarian and Vegan - very very limited choice. It's not the Pubs fault, we should have checked their menu on their website before going. Food prices are the usual pub prices.check out their Web. Drink - 250 ml Merlot was £6,80 It's a welcoming, friendly pub and we would visit again.

This is my local pub and I've always enjoyed drinking and eating there. Since the new landlord took over, the pub has built in what the previous tenants achieved and has gone from strength to strength. The food menu includes delicious lunchtime sandwiches and Sunday roasts. The staff make every effort to be friendly and efficient. The beer continues to be really well kept, with the new Elephant and Castle Ale now being my go-to session drink. The gin menu is also worth keeping and eye on! Booking recommended for Sundays and also Thursday evenings, which is pub quiz night.

Visited from out of area to meet with family for a 60th birthday. Pub was half full so not too busy. Friendly staff. The playground is great and the kids had fun. The outside seating was lovely. However the food ... we are people who never complain and eat everything but no one finished their dinner because the food was so badly prepared. The pasta and sauce was overcooked penne pasta with a jar of sickly tomato sauce put on top, no cheese like the menu said and the garlic bread was burnt. We fed most our dinners to the dogs. I hate saying this but we want this beautiful pub to succeed and improve and they cannot serve food like this. Two people were sick that night too. Maybe there were just too many of us for them to serve that day. Very sorry we went there.

We'd chosen the Elephant and Castle to meet friends as a midway point between the Cotswolds and North London. Very easy to get to and the drive from the M4 passed through some lovely villages. When we arrived it wasn't quite as we expected - the garden isn't huge and if we'd brought our labrador it would have been tight. Despite booking months in advance our booking was lost in the new year which was cause for concern. The booking was for 27 people, on arrival 6/7 tables of varying sizes had been kept clear but not set up in any fashion and only chairs for 21 people. When we asked for help it seemed that it was quite an inconvenience. We were given extra chairs and rearranged the room with my guests. That said, the food was once again lovely. Most of my guests in good spirits took the disorganisation in good stride and with the exceptional food left happy. I don't think we would personally return as I felt like we weren't handled or spoken to very well, but I'm sure my guests would based on the food.

The tribe descended on the Elephant & Castle, 7adults, 1 inbetweener and 2 children. We were the only ones in what used to be the restaurant room. I hadn't been there for ages and I think there has been a change of ownership, although faces seemed familiar. The food was really good, nicely presented and of good quality. Starters varied from Garlic Mushrooms with aioli, deep fried camembert and panko coated squid which all got full marks as did the whitebait and prawn twister.I had home baked ham with eggs and chips (no fancy french fries here). Expecting the thin sliced ham often described as 'home baked', I was really pleased to get thick cut, succulent large slices filling the plate. It was great, and reminiscent of the country ham served for breakfast at Denise's in Pompano Beach - high praise. The kids had half racks of ribs and others had full racks. Again, excellent. My wife had a spicy bean burger, which got the seal of approval. I cant remember all the other meals, but there were no complaints. Even the requested ketchup arrived in small pots, like the breakfast jams and marmalades in hotels.Treacle sponge and custard, gluten free Toblerone based 'tart' with cream, and other good puds finished it off nicely. The girl who was our server, was smiling all the time and couldnt have been more helpful (and tolerant!)The only comment is that the wine list could be a bit more expansive.I noticed a board on the wall after we had finished which said there was a chicken curry special. I had no option but to return the following day to taste it. It was worth the journey, served with a couple of poppadoms, chopped onion/tomato and mint sauce in small pots. If you are going to do something, do it well......and that seems to be the ethos at the Elephant & Castle

Desserts beautiful, cheese board lovely (huge) followed by warm mince pies and coffee. Great atmosphere, the only complaint, we ate so much it hurt! The tripple meats roast was generous, although missing any crackling on the pork. Deserts were all tasty, the homecooked ones were nicer than the bought in froxen ones. All in all 22 qjid per p3rson for main, desert and a drink, V ery suprised, but next time we will bring the dog and eat in the bar as it was more welcoming with a crackling fire. Lovely clean family pub, excellent food, staff very polite, home made food. Well behave dogs are allowed in front bar, what more can I say. Bear in mind If just out for a drink it is slightly more expensive than average pub but well worth a visit.

We'd meant to try this pub with our 20 month son for some time. Other reviews had suggested the garden was great for young children and that the menu and food was worth the visit. From our arrival the staff we're very friendly and warm and just the right level of attentive. Our son loved the garden and it was difficult to prise him from the wendy house for dinner. However, the food was excellent. For the most part it was standard pub fair but done really well with some really nice presentation and little tweaks on what you might regard as regular pub grub. We plan on taking the parents there when they visit so must have made a good impression.

What a disappointment! We visited the pub as it was a special occasion. The menu stated home made food and 100% fresh ingredients etc! out of the five meals given to us, one was possibly made on the premises. My soup was definitely from a tin and my meal was pre packed which I have seen in many supermarkets the only difference being we were charged 5 times more,,, I would NOT recommend this place if you want decent hone cooked food. Obviously the previous visitors must have had a different chef because we didn't have one.

Recently refurbished this pub has a pleasant interior with a lovely open fire but is a lttle spoiled by the flashing game machine and large tv screen tuned to the sports channels which seem more suited to a town pub. The food however offers excellent value and we really enjoyed the well cooked mains and equally nice desserts. Service is mixed and could do with more guidance on how to welcome customers, clear tables and generally ensure things run smoothly.

We (five) stopped here for lunch today, 12th Oct, and had an excellent selection of food. The ham ploughmans was very good, thick slices of ham, and still warm bread...too much for one of us to eat, so we shared ! One of the party had a jacket potato, another the ham sandwich with piccalilli and the other had the board of bread, olives, feta cheese and balsamic dip. The latter was a bit vinegary, but the feta was top notch. The beer, Greene King Abbot was good, as was the Guinness. The pub itself is very near to completion of an extensive interior decorating project, and will look very nice once completed in a couple of weeks time.As it was quite a nice day we sat outside and spent the whole lunchtime fascinated by at least four red kites that were either in a tree close by, or flying overhead.Final note - the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Even though we live only a few miles away, my wife and I had never been into this pub. All the staff are really friendly and helpful. Food was lovely, We had a ciabatta for which there are plenty of filling choices available. The side salad was fresh and crisp unlike some places where it can be on the withered side. Coffee was also good, best latte I have had in a while. The place has an old world pub feel with beamed ceilings and a big log fire.I understand from the Manager that the place is going to be revamped inside shortly. We will definitely be making this a regular destination. The description of the place at the top says it all really.

Went to the Elephant and Castle today with two friends and my 18 month old son. What a lovely lunch we had in a fantastic location. I had the ham ploughmans, can't complain, the ham was beautiful and bread was still warm. Both friends had the beer battered cod so did my son (his was free) all were lovely and the chips were some of the best I've ever had. For my 18 month old the play area was great, I could let him explore and not worry about him as the area was completely enclosed with lots of toys for him to play with. I would say the only downside were the loos and lack of baby changing facilities, having said that the pub is going to start refurbishment next week so I'd think these facilities will improve. Overall I would thoroughly recommend this pub especially for families with children.

After reading the reviews left by the glampers I feel I need to leave my own review on here to emphasise what a lovely time I have had at this pub on two occasions! Firstly, I had my 21st birthday jointly with my sister's 18th birthday party at the Elephant & Castle in February. So, we were not the usual 'family' clientele, we had over 150 18-24 year olds at our party, and Wayne and his staff were DEFINITELY not rude, unwelcoming, uptight or unpleasant in anyway. They went out of their way to ensure we had the most fantastic birthdays and joined in with the occasion. All of my friends commented on how funny Wayne was and how easy the staff were to talk to and have banter with. Quite a few of my friends had a bit too much to drink but Wayne was very tolerant and not rude about them once, he made sure that everyone was OK. I guess this shows that the behaviour of the glampers went beyond normal drunken banter to warrant them being asked to leave! The food was absolutely lovely with a wide variety to suit everyone's tastes. The staff were constantly smiling and having fun with us, saying they had really enjoyed themselves as well. All in all, it was the best 21st birthday I could have asked for and it was all down to Wayne, Penny and the staff at Elephant & Castle.Because of this, we then booked a party again which we had a couple of weekends ago as a surprise for my Mum's birthday. Again, it was just as fantastic as before, the staff helped decorate the pub before my mum arrived and were as helpful and nice as ever during the whole party. Unfortunately, some of the people at our party actually ended up being rude to Wayne at the end of the night but he was very tolerant of this and dealt with them appropriately. They put up with alot from customers who have had a bit to drink so I would imagine that the behaviour from the glampers must have been very inappropriate for them to feel the need to ask them to leave. You have commented that they should not advertise for hen parties if they do not tolerate such behaviour, however just because you are on a hen party does not give people permission to be disrespectful, rude and then complain about being asked to leave! I don't think lifting up tops and swearing in front of children is ever acceptable personally. I didn't mean to rant, but felt that I needed to say something as Wayne and the staff do not deserve these reviews and people should definitely discard them when deciding whether to visit or not. It is a fantastic pub with charismatic staff, we've recommended it to friends who have also had parties there and had nothing but praise afterwards. We will 100% be going back there in the future!

Not terrible but it wasn't great, just very average pub grub.Maybe I expected too much, like home-made chips instead of frozen... Credit though for the salad garnish which was very good. The ladies toilets didn't smell great and were very shabby and quite dirty. We passed a few pubs which looked quite inviting on our way here and really wish we'd gone to one of those instead...

Went for a lunchtime meal with my two adult nieces, sister and 82yo Mother. Don't know why the "Glampers" were so scathing. We had a wonderful meal, wonderful service and all in all a lovely afternoon. Wayne the Landlord is a character, completely inoffensive and enjoys witty banter with like minded people who are not too "up" themselves to relax and enjoy the ambiance of this delightful village pub. Penny makes the best burgers in Berkshire and all her beautifully prepared meals are fresh and plentiful. You will be so full and yet still desperately try to clear your plate because it all tastes so good. If you're looking for a family friendly pub, great food and a chirpy chat with the Landlord this is definitely the place to come.

Visited on a late Saturday afternoon in early July. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. We were able to sit outside and the children really liked the outside play area which is right next to the seating area. Food arrived quickly but was quite average for the price (and doesn't reflect the quality and taste that the menu implies). Diet coke was very flat, and whilst the staff were more than happy to investigate and replace it, the subsequent lemonade i received was also very flat - they couldn't find anything wrong with the gas so staff explained it was probably due to the 'cheap' syrup mix they use (instead of the main brand). Would visit again when if in area with the kids.

What treat to go to place that lists themselves as 'family pub' and mean it. This was the second visit my wife and i had made, the first being a 'scouting' trip made during the school period and hence we were 'child -free'.Our scouting trip wasn't a disappointment. we found a lovely rustic pub, with friendly staff and a great local atmosphere. we asked questions in preparation for the family visit, all were answered, quickly, accurately and without being made to feel we were a burden. On the day of the family meal, we booked as advised, got a table in the Garden Bar, so we could watch the children muck aboout in the nicely designed play area whilst keeping out of the sun ourselves. We weren't tucked away from the other diners to keep the children quiet, or out of other peoples hair, quite the contrary. The staff made the children feel that they were as important as customers as the adults were. Every single member of staff made the children feel welcome and interacted with them. Because of our location the kids got to see a lot of what goes on in a busy pub, we were close to the bar so they swa the comings and goings and loved it.The menu was great for adults and kids alike, clearly thought has gone into producing a choice of child friendly meals by people with experience such things. The food was delivered in a timely fashion and was very good, for both adults and children and whilst the grown ups all had raost dinners, there was a good selection on offer..rare for a Sunday.All-in-all a really good visit. We will definitely go again and have already recommended it to some friends.

We found the pub online and were happy to see they had a children's play area. However, their website has NO information anywhere as to what hours they open/close or serve meals, so we decided to take our family on a late Sunday afternoon for dinner. We were quite disappointed to find that they stop serving meals after 4pm on Sundays. We moved to England from the U.S. 6 months ago, and perhaps it's just "known" that pubs don't typically serve meals on a Sunday evening, or perhaps people just "know" to call head to make sure meals are being served. We are not used to that and were very disappointed when we arrived and discovered this. It would be nice if their website at least had general times with a note to call in case it's changed. However, I would say that our children (ages 2 and 4) LOVED the outdoor play area. We stayed for a while so the children could play, and they were very disappointed when we had to leave. I planned to get a glass of wine to enjoy until we needed to leave, but the bar service was SLOW and I lost my patience standing and waiting to be acknowledged. We plan to try again during a time when meals are being served and hope to be able to write a more favorable review.

We visited the pub on sunday lunch time as a family for a bite to eat.Expecting to have to wait for a table as we are a large family, but were accomadated very promptly. The staff were very friendly and advised us there was a garden that our children could play in if wanted as it was such a nice day and that there was a few free tables out there. My husband went to the bar and was served quickly and politly considering it was a busy day. We placed our food order and were informed how long it would be. To our surprise the food was ready before the advised time which was very good seeing how busy the pub was. The portion sizes are very good and with a good selection of childrens meals on offer this makes a very good, if not one of the best, we have ever been to. One of the female bar staff came out and checked that everything was ok with our meal, to which we could not fault. After our meal a lady came out to the garden and went round to every table speaking to all the customers in turn, when she spoke to us it was then that in fact this was the landlady " Pennie" This we found to be a vey nice touch, that she took the time to come and chat with people visiting the pub. I would just like to say " A job well done to Pennie, Wayne and all their staff" I for one will be visiting the Elephant & Castle again and will spread the good word of our visit. In a nut shell Exellent food, great value for money and very friendly. THANK YOU

The Elephant & Castle is a favorite among the family. We always have a lovely, relaxed and thouroghly enjoyable meal. Firstly, everyone always feels welcomed by the owners, Wayne & Penny, and we feel they manage the pub amazingly well. They take pride in the reputation they have built up for their business, and so they should. Both are extremely enthusiastic about their work and always give 100% to make every customer's meal of the best quality possible. The staff employed there always have a smile on their faces so are clearly happy with their jobs. They are happy to serve anyone and really make the effort to get to know the locals. Secondly, the pub is dog-friendly, which is very useful for us when we wish to bring the dog along with us on a visit out. It's quite unusual to find a pub that accepts dogs in the main bar, so this is clearly a plus too. Most importantly, the food is excellent and tastes amazing! It is always beautifully presented and in an original way. There is a variety of food to choose from and therefore, there is something available for everyone. It's also very good value for money as the portions you get are substantial ones and you can be sure that you will go home not being able to eat anything more! However, the main attraction to the pub for us, over any other is the wonderful play area. We have a family with young children and we can be sure to have a stress-free meal at the pub - the playground is like no other in the area, as it is enclosed and extremely safe. We do not have any worries about the children playing outside as we finish our own meal, as the playground can be viewed from the restaurant. We are assured by the kids that the play area is 'brilliant fun' and 'pretty' due to the bright colours with which everything is decorated. You also have the option of eating outside on the patio when the opportunity arises, however of course this is dependant on the weather. So, this pub can top any other in the area with its welcoming owners and friendly staff, enclosed and safe children's play area, not to mention such high quality food. This pub is one of our favourites and we would recommend this pub to ANYONE!
