Love going to El Vino in Blackfriars. It has been a regular of ours for many years. The food is great. The staff are so friendly, courteous and can't do enough for you. It's got that oldie woldie charm of how a bar should be run. Well done to all.

Love, Love, Love El Vino Blackfriars it is my go to place in the winter to meet up with friends. It is busy but you still feel like it is just you and the people you are with. You 100% lose time in there and I love that. The food is very good the wine of course amazing! See you again next year and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to the team

Been here loads and always great. However, last time I visited I grabbed first menu I could find - presented it to bar maid - and selected a wine listed at £35. She looked at said menu and said “ok”. After 5 bottles of said wine i went to pay and was informed that the price on the menu was “retail” which resulted in actually £70 not £35. To be honest I could not be bothered with the row, but quite clearly a total stitch up job. Will never go back. Very disappointing approach to clawing back COVID losses (which I’m sure have been reimbursed anyway). Sad. A damming indictment on customer service from a. W he you would expect more from.

Been to this bar numerous times, often for a post-work or pre-train glass of sherry. Love the atmosphere - lots of great wines to chose and decent choices of whisky and fortified wines. Possible to buy from list to take away. As a wine bar slowly me I'd give it five stars. Had lunch with my wife last week, we shared a mezze plate and had patatas bravas from the tapas menu. Patatas were very good. Tapas place was decent, but lacked balance - needed another dip, probably hummus. Prices were central London. The wine was as good as ever...

Our company booked our Xmas dinner at El Vino. The service was very slow and resulted in us having to wait ages for food. The mains were brought out in drips and drabs and we had to ask for veg several times and then only got small bowls of veg which was only enough for 3/4 people. Waiters also opened wine bottle when we already had full open bottle on the tables resulting in us having to pay for more wine than needed. Very disappointed.

The food and the service at this El Vino never disappoints, even if the interior is little gloomy and the general dining experience a bit old-fashioned. This was a visit on a spectacularly hot and humid day, so most people were sitting outside, which undoubtedly stretched the service a bit. But we still got excellent and friendly treatment. The food is not gourmet, but always good quality and not over-priced. It's a great location for a social drink or meal, but even better for a business lunch. Her staff were caring and sympathetic towards me even when I ended up lying on the floor for almost an hour.I will be back soon ( no pun), to offer my thanks personally once in better shape and can't speak highly enough, of especially Carol- and her team.I didn't manage to eat or drink anything due to the " event" which is a pity as every time we've been there previously, the food, wine and service has been outstanding- We jokingly refer to El Vino Blackfriars as our "London office".It's fabulous-

This is an unusual wine bar in the City of London that has been pouring wine for many years. The venue has a good selection of wines by the glass and by the bottle, and sells bottles to take away, as well. It is relatively small with a handful of tables, and yet it can be much quieter on a Friday afternoon than many pubs nearby! It is a shame that they do not have sophisticated decanters or wine glasses to match some of the nicer wines they have on the menu. They also have a couple of simple tapas on the menus, but compared with the wines, these are much more basic.

A friend booked this for our annual reunion Xmas lunch. Looked up reviews day before and they were dire re food. Sorry to say this was proved correct - although the two of us who chose the trad turkey option ate it all as we were hungry and it wasn't too bad. I doubt they'd roasted and carved a turkey in the kitchen though, looked like those ultra thin slices that you'd get from factory-processed squashed together breast meat. The other two did not finish their meal (venison and a pie) and said it was dreadful. Their deserts looked worse than mediocre supermarket offering (lemon tart and Xmas pud) although my ice cream (with unexpected but quite nice berry sauce) was fine. The crackers (part of the Xmas set meal) did not arrive until coffee and, even then, had to be asked for several times. Ditto the mints which were meant to come with coffee. On the plus side (and very important were reunions are concerned) - we had a good time due to plenty of booze, pleasant staff and being allowed to occupy our booth from 12 noon to gone 5pm.

A board advertised breakfast, so after an early morning business meeting I decided to take them up on their breakfast offer. £7 for a full English comprising of bacon, eggs, toast, beans, grilled tomato and mushrooms, and choice from a selection of hot beverages. All seemed reasonable, a little dearer than a greasy spoon, but perhaps what they had on offer was a bit better than that sort of fare. I found the inside of El Vino to be really charming, and you can feel its history of being an old merchant, but despite these first impressions they were quickly squashed. A young and friendly barkeeper greeted me from the wrong side of the bar, and when I enquired about the breakfast (served from 8.30 to 11.30 according to their signboard) at 9.45 and he said he would ask the Chef as he had only just turned up for work. After waiting for 5 minutes, it turned out I could get some brekkie. He took my order for a Cappuccino and a full English breakfast. The Cappuccino arrived, and it was actually a Latte - a very milky coffee and warm rather than hot, but as this mistake is done everywhere it would seem like a petty gripe. The breakfast was served with a teaspoon or two of jam and marmalade, but no butter and no sauces. The fried egg was covered in oil and grease, and the yolk was hard. One rasher of bacon. The sausage looked good until I bit into it, and it tasted tainted. A little mushroom, probably one chopped chestnut mushroom. Toast was generous, two slices of granary bread, and two tomato halves, fried rather than grilled. All-in-all not that great. After walking out, I saw a neighbouring Historical Blackfriars bar's menu advertising a more appetising breakfast for 50p less, making me wish I had stepped in there instead.

Christmas lunched here with a party of 15ish. Put in a slightly musty basement room with 80's photos of Moscow adorning the walls. Service very slow and food very tired - think your typical pub from 30 years ago. Tiny pieces of bread arrived after 20 minutes with foil packed butter. Two button sized fish cakes for a starter. Small plate of Turkey with some of the trimmings for main course and small slice Christmas pud. Absolutely no atmosphere. I suspect this is the sort of place for those who like being reminded of school dinners or those who are after liquid refreshment with no need for ambiance.

Had a quick lunch outside in a very sunny day, food and wine is good. If you want a glass of wine with colleagues after work just go to El Vino.

Had a breakfast with my wife & son . Lukewarm runny eggs, foul looking sausage (did not dare to eat) and generally simply not good enough- badly cooked, badly presented, no care or attention, toast under-cooked. 3 of us ate there and we all thought it was very poor. On settling the bill they add on a service charge . Its a quiet dingy drab place that I would never go to again. I presume its focus is on wines- and it seems from reviews that its wines are good. But for having a breakfast- it is very poor .I rarely give one star and did not research this place; a lesson is to check trip advisor ratings and also - if a place is empty- think - WHY?

Close by Blackfriars Bridge and Tube station (recently refurbished) El Vino has a great wine list, with offers over a wide price range. Hence, you can find very reasonably priced "session" wines to drink with a bunch of mates, or a really nice vintage to savour with someone special. Knowledgeable staff will help you find just the right one. Part of a small chain, many of El Vino's wines are bottled especially for them, so won't be found elsewhere. Bar plate, tapas or restaurant service food is available, but it's wholesome food rather than gourmet. If you like a wine and want to take some home, most bars will want to charge their on-sale price. El Vino operates a proper off-sale option, so taking a favourite home needn't be expensive. You can even order by the case. A small private dining room is available downstairs, but sizeable private parties can also be accommodated. Periodically wine tastings are arranged to help you learn more about what you're drinking. An outside area is available in good weather. The high ceiling and windows make the main bar light and airy and I like the place a lot, and use it often. However, I can't give it more than 3 stars as there are two "let downs". The place is desperately in need of smartening up. It looks as if it hasn't been decorated since the 1950s. Whilst that may be reminiscent of your crumbling public school, it's very much "last century". Finally the ancient tiny toilets downstairs, whilst clean, are in need of a complete "rip out and replace".

Had a little time between meetings so decided to lunch here having enjoyed the El Vino on Fleet Street previously.Very extensive wine list and a busy wine bar clearly with a regular clientele - good selection of more unusual drinks; another patron was enjoying a glass of malmsey - of which there were a number available by the glass. Very large bottles of champagne were also in evidence, so perhaps the city is making a comeback. The bar lunch menu is limited, with Tapas much in evidence. The steak & onion baguette was tasty with a good quantity of beef, but the baguette was a bit chewy and could have done with being crisper.

El Vinos is a bit of an institution. It is very close to Blackfriars and well placed for the City. On the plus side it has a first class wine list, can be a great place to sit outside while waiting to meet someone, or waiting for a train, on a sunny day (apparently we do occasionally get those). and is often nearly empty at lunchtime. On the downside while the food has improved recently it is still particularly uninspired . They should look at the Hare and tortoise just up the road from them to see how to serve good hot food fast at a sensible price. That all being said I am delighted it is still going, the quality of the wine list alone merits its survival, and if you want a quiet place to meet, think, drink at a lunchtime, or want good place to meet in that part of town it works well.

I used to visit El Vino, especially this one, 1998-2004. When I returned a few years ago, I was disappointed that it seemed to have lost its way. What a difference today. Attentive staff who were knowledgeable (once again) about the wine list and food that was much much better. It is a good place to meet as it sits so close to tube lines,Blackfriars train station and the City itself. I think we may have been spoiled by being served by the the top person but it worked for me. Having vowed to stay away, I can now say that it is worth returning.

Not many people in on a Tuesday night, but the place had a welcoming atmosphere.. It's a bit 'trad' , but it's all the better for that . The food was very good ( we went for the tapas plates) the wine list is extensive and includes some very decent choices at £16 or so a bottle as well as the £400+ bottles. The service was excellent, friendly and helpful. All good. Also it's very handy for the Black Friar pub for a beer before, and close to the tube at Blackfriars.

Dropped in with my 2 children in the evening. Nice atmosphere. Friendly waitress. Unfortunately, we had to leave after inspection of the menue card... Different sandwiches and tappas on it, but no real meals... Separate rich wine card. Might be very good for wine lovers, however, limited if you also enjoy real food...

Recently came here for a visit during our trip to London for a few beers. Had to visit as my brother had worked here many years ago. Beer was great. Staff was friendly.
