El Gato Negro in Manchester

Just back from Seville and were visiting Manchester. Thought we'd compare the tapas. While the food was really good, we'd obviously been spoiled! Nowhere beats Seville for tapas. Service was really friendly, efficient even though they were really busy. Great vibe here. Lots of people were having a great time.

Food amazing, atmosphere fantastic, service impeccable. Treated my wife so well for her birthday with free calamari, free cava, and free ice cream. Thanks so much guys

The building is wonderful! Great setting with a buzzing atmosphere. The food is fine and pretty ready to share. The Catalan bread was tasty, although nothing like the commensurate dish in Catalonia, and the patatas bravas were indifferent. However the grilled Hispi cabbage was gorgeous. Service was friendly and efficient. Great place to come with a group!

Excellent place to have good food and good conversation. The Espresso Martini was great. The tapas were well made and they came fast.

First time visiting here as the website and Tripadvisor look very good. Ordered around 6/7 dishes between my partner and I and unfortunately found most of them very poor. The beef shin was very good. As were the potatas braves. The soft shell crab was deep fried mad effectively like gristle. Had it not been in its crab shape, we wouldn’t have known it was crab at all. The seafood bisque was a nice addition but the crab was far too greasy. The Christmas specials weren’t anything particularly amazing at £10 per cheese bite. Quite bland. The prawns were also not de-shelled (which always seems lazy to me) so once I’d peeled them and got rid of the sack they were cold, and again quite bland. Prawns should be bright and full of flavour and these were not. The bikini was very poor. Ham and cheese toastie and £3 per square inch. Nothing special about them. The charcuterie board was enjoyable but s portion size with only 1 cracker between two people for £20 was not worth it. Overall the food was very disappointing considering we spent £150 between us, we weren’t satisfied and ended up eating elsewhere afterwards. The place is very nice and the staff were all great. Location very good too.

Great staff - really helpful and friendly, food was fine but had better tapas, overpriced. We weren't unhappy but neither were we raving. No complaints overall but a bit ho-hum.

Xmas Market stall on King Street. Pint of Victoria Malaga, mug of Mulled Margarita and Patatas Bravas. Certainly recommend to family and friends.

We were visiting Manchester for the weekend and booked here for the Saturday night. The staff and atmosphere were great! The star of the show was the food - we were a party of four and we all thought it was absolutely delicious! Everything comes out fresh as and when it’s ready. We’re gutted this isn’t local to us! Highly recommend!

From the second we walked in we were made to feel so very appreciated for being there. The staff, service and food were brilliant. Can not praise you enough. Big thanks to my niece for recommending you. X x

A Spanish restaurant not far from the city center has a large storefront with several floors. Every meal was so delicious that I couldn't speak! Gambas Pil Pil and Spiced Chicken with Mojo Picon are 200% recommended. The shrimp meat is tender and juicy, which is amazing. The bread dipped in shrimp oil with the meal is very fragrant. It would be perfect if the shrimp line could be removed in advance. Domestic barbecue sauce-flavored grilled chicken, spicy and appetizing. Although it is chicken breast, it is not woody at all. It must be matched with the dipping sauce below.

Great Tapas in a fantastic location. We’ve never been disappointed with any of our selections. Everything is prepared at the time of order so it’s at its best upon arrival to the table. The staff are very attentive as well.

We've enjoyed the delicious food and the ambience! The staff was also very kind and efficient, they also picked up that was a special day for us and congratulated my other half in her achievements. All dishes that we tried were simply amazing and incredibly tasty. I highly recommend this place! 5 stars for food and staff definitely!!

Great knowledge of allergies, a lot of the menu could be made gluten free and I was asked about cross contamination as well. Great service and great food!

Fantastic all round, will return.

First came here in March 2023 and is right up there as one of my absolute favourites. Live near London and London is dead post Brexit/Pandemic for obvious reasons but the north is buzzing on the food scene anyway.

Food is outstanding, staff were super friendly and helpful and the food is reasonably priced. If you're looking for Tapas check this place out.

Food was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. Service was timely and all done with a smile. Ambience, even in the middle of the day, was welcoming, warm and pleasant. Loved it.

We were able to walk in without booking, the food was delicious and the tapas was served as it's cooked so it was nice and hot. Prices were reasonable for a city centre restaurant. Our server was very friendly.

We were recommended this place. Maybe because it was late, but the food was very average. The soft shell crab was burnt although we did get another one. Altogether expensive and not the best value

Really lovely restaurant. Great staff and great food. We went for my girlfriends birthday and it was well worth it. Would recommend the cava sangria and the salt cod croquettes.

Walk in for lunch, greeted with friendly host and lucky that had a bar seat for us. Attentive serving crew and great place to catch up with friends. Food served in appropriate timing even tho we add on dishes in between. They taste great, appropriate portion and pricing. Quite a few wine selections and sherry! Rarely seen a restaurant either good selection of sherry. We love it and definitely will back here again. 2 Pax 6 tapas, 2 beers 2 wines 2 Sherry with service charge cost us £133.

Everything about this place is excellent. We arrived for lunch on a referral tip when in town - unbelievable. I don’t know what they do to cabbage and pork to make it taste so good. Amazing

I visited with my boyfriend for my birthday with a booking at 9:30. Upon arrival we were told the kitchen closes at 10. After ordering our food I confirmed with our sever that we could order deserts after the kitchen had closed but we felt very pressured to leave. they turned the lights on before we had got our food and turned the music off whilst we were eating. Our server was lovely but other staff were quite unprofessional.

On a rainy night we saddled up to the bar at El Gato Negro. We were welcomed warmly by the bartender Miguel. We ordered up a bottle of vinho verde & started to puruse the menu. We settled on 4 tapas: bikini sandwich, tortilla, harissa butternut squash & gratin Dauphinoise. All 4 were extremely delicious. They were attractively presented. The tapas menu is quite vast & should satisfy all diners. The room has a very cosy feel to it. Dark woods, lighting is low. A very pleasant evening was had.

Food , I didn't expect to love it , but i did , most of the tapas , exactly like in Spain , maybe even better , some of them (not all of them), but if you miss the holiday mood from Spain, totally recommend .

Our waitress was very good, friendly and attentive. The food on the whole was delicious, especially the vegetable dishes. The Broccoli and cauliflower were the stand-out plates. The Scallops were well cooked but disappointingly small. Excellent cheeses and wine. We were seated in a booth near to the bar. I found the seats uncomfortable and that area of the restaurant was quite noisy

We went to El Gato Negro for my sons birthday. We had a great time the food was amazing and the staff were so friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back.

I went late afternoon on a Tuesday so fairly quiet, just how I like it. The food was, as always, very good. Thomas waited on and he was professional but friendly. Excellent. There were 3 things he did that set him apart. I asked for some more cutlery, he brought it straightaway but on a tray, set on a napkin. The wine initially was in an ice bucket with both ice and cold water. Exactly how it should be. But as the wine disappeared, Thomas changed the ice bucket so the wine rested on a layer of ice. All classy touches.

Food was fast and delicious and well priced. Really nice chilled atmosphere. Our server Spence was wonderful, really friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend the Squid, the Padron peppers and the keylime coconut pie on specials. Will deffo be coming back here again

Such a great experience. Food was amazing - a cut above the standard generic tapas you find around the city. Service was a great balance of attentive but not overbearing. Sound levels are good in the booths not sure about the open restaurant area so if you want something g a little more intimate or quiet choose a booth.

A family meal in a place that we have been to many times over the years. Service and taste of food was still good but the reduction in menu options and the terribly reduced portion sizes have made this place expensive and disappointing now. 1 tiny soft shell crab and 5 prawns pil pil for £30 is not really acceptable value. We were not the only family questioning the amount of food on the night we were there. There are better places for the money now.

Hugely underwhelming! My wife and I are huge tapas fans. Although we weren’t expecting Barrafina standard tapas, based on the reviews we were very excited to try this restaurant. Unfortunately we were hugely disappointed with the quality of the food. Most dishes lack taste and were a far cry from the standard of authentic tapas. The only positive was the great service from our waitress.

Everything was so good!! Would absolutely recommend booking. We booked a week before for a Saturday and there was only a 9pm table left as an option for 2 people. We were sat on the top floor which still had plenty of atmospheric. Friendly and attentive service, drinks and food very yummy! Gambas Pil Pil - the toast soaked in the sauce - HEAVEN!! and the Short Rib were AMAZING and my personal faves. We had five plates between two and were stuffed. Here’s what we had: Red Sangria Carafe - £22 Gambas Pil Pil - £16.50 Chorizo - £10 Meatballs - £10 Padron Peppers - £6 Beef Short Rib - £17.50 12.5% service charge - £10.25 Total - £92.25 We will be back!

We had the pleasure of playing on the stunning rooftop terrace at El Gato Negro Tapas in Manchester for an incredible corporate private party, and it was top-tier all around. The atmosphere up there is unbeatable—chic, cozy, and just the right amount of glamor with the incredible open air setting. We’d say it’s hard to focus on playing with all that delicious tapas around, but hey, someone’s got to provide the soundtrack! The staff were super accommodating, and the whole vibe was relaxed yet refined, making it the perfect setting for a corporate bash. The crowd danced all night and everyone had an incredible time! 10/10 would happily bring the tunes (and maybe sneak in some patatas bravas) again!

Loved it so much! Every plate was amazing, flavours were fantastic, octopus and chorizo personal favourites. Sat at the chefs table and it really enhanced the experience, our server was fantastic and Mark the chef who we chatted to was so friendly, charming, and informative. Had such a nice conversation and cooked some great food. Would thoroughly recommend!!!!!

The Iberico Pork Loin was incredible

Highly recommend! Some of the best tapas we have had. We sat on the chefs table - was great to see the dishes coming out and Mark was great chatting while he cooked and gave some great recommendations. Will be back to try more of the menu soon!

Generous portions with the beef short rib as the standout. The triple chocolate fondant slice was also really good.

Found out about this place years ago from the Michelin Guide, and I usually come here for lunch during the weekdays, which they offer to choose any 3 selected items from the menu for £20, and that's a very good price for the quality of food they have. I would recommend their Jamon Iberico Croquetas, Chorizo in Aspall Cider, Patatas Bravas and Fried Squid, as these are the dishes I would come back here for. The internal decor of the restaurant hadn't changed much for the past few years when I dined here and especially if you are seated in the inner corner of the restaurant on the ground floor oppose the bar table, it can be a little bit dark there, stronger lighting could help with the dining atmosphere.

Was here for a wedding on the top floor, it was really fun and the finger food was top quality.

Booked out the top floor for my baby shower here and it was amazing! The staff couldn’t do enough and the food, drink and service was amazing! Had to order more jamon croquettes on the day because everyone loved them so much I didn’t get a see in! The reservations manager Nisha was really great at helping us sort everything and recommended we go to their sister venue up the road Black Cat Club afterwards for darts and shuffle for a bit of an after party and it didn’t disappoint! I had the best day, thank you to everyone involved xx

Went here for our works Christmas party and recently I was invited for a lunch/meeting. Whilst the tapas tastes nice, on both occasions I’ve left the restaurant still feeling hungry and disappointed with the portion sizes. The restaurant itself is trendy and clean and the staff have been helpful, however, I struggle to get over how expensive it is for extremely small amounts of food so in my opinion it’s not value for money.

Myself and husband went recently for our 9th wedding anniversary. What can I say other than wow, the food was amazing and the staff were so friendly. In particular Georgie G, she made our night just perfect 😃💗. We will definitely be visiting again and can highly recommend the place. Xxx

Absolutely sublime! Efficiently shown to our prebooked table. Lovely, friendly informative waiter. Tapas all arrived separately with gaps in between so was able to savour everything and all pipping hot. The absolute stand outs were the Gambas Pil Pil and the meatballs.....who sauce was to die for. It is not cheap but it's damn worth every penny! I'd recommend to everyone!!

Everything was great! Aaron looked after us and his service was really good. The food was quick and really tasty. Plenty of vegan options too. Will definitely be back! I particularly enjoyed the bravas, they were incredible! And the dessert was amazing!

A warm and elegant space with fantastic service to savor and share top notch tapas dishes. Your taste buds will be overwhelmed and delighted so prepare to say yes please to any of their recommendations. We ordered a dozen veggie and meat dishes for 4 people including beef short rib, lamb skewers and roasted cauliflower. Just lovely!

Nice small outside area that's shaded (perfect for the evening heat waves). Waiter didn't seem friendly and didn't really want explain the menu or give recommendations. Quite abrupt. There was a nice food runner though. Food was very good - patatas bravas is a must and tried the special that was delicious. Very relaxed meal. Great vibe, great food! Came here with friends to celebrate their marriage - the staff noticed and opened up the rooftop bar early just for us! Spectacular food - the salt cod croquetas were delicious. Their draught beer selection is limited, so if you fancy a craft beer, get one beforehand!

Dropped onto a table in the open air 3rd floor terrace in 25 degree weather for tapas and cocktails and it was very, very good. Good cocktails, highly authentic Spanish tapas and great atmosphere. Highly recommended, particularly if you can get to the terrace in the sunshine, it felt very Marbella-esque. The mini chorizo and charcuterie board were a highlight!

The best tapas food and service I have had outside Madrid. Everything was perfect. Head chef you are a genius
