Eighty Eight in Fylde

We got a takeaway for fathers day as my dad didn't want to venture out. We have been let down by the quality of takeaway Chinese style food in Lytham and wanted to venture somewhere else for a change. 88 was recommended to us so thought we'd give it a try and we weren't disappointed! There was a little wait on food, but we didn't order ahead and it was a special day so it was obvious they would be busy so we weren't bothered by this. The lady who took our order was lovely and cheerful and obviously works very hard as she was doing everything front of house while we were there. Food was nice and definitely the best we've had from the Lytham St Anne's in terms of Chinese style takeaway!

Pleasant young man server, food mainly nice (beef in the curry isn't the quality cut it used to be) ..... However, the place is awful! The lighting is poor, our table cloth had seen better days but the worst is the floor, what's left of the carpet is threadbare but the worst thing is you literally stick to the carpet - it's disgusting! Due to actual venue I won't be back.

Terrible food, bland, no flavour.. The only Chinese I've actually had to add seasoning to! Rang to complain but was told there was nothing they could do! Absolute waste of money. Definitely won't be returning and will be advising friends to avoid.

Claggy fried rice like it had been microwaved. nobody in the restaurant despite having to book, Staff dont know what they are doing, no draught beer or lager, carpet that sticks to you with a well worn liquorice type pattern of well worn footfall. Chicken balls came as pieces though were tasty JUSt Not what i ordered. wont be back

We've just had the best Chinese takeaway we've had in ages. Eighty eight is so good! Kong Po chicken and Fried chicken with honey and orange sauce - just delicious. Neil 👍😀

The young waitress girl was to busy flirting with a boy on a different table to pay attention to our order. We had to wait for everything and then when food came out the it was inedible. Was swimming in grease and cold. Service was shocking obviously because I wasn’t a teen age boy. I have never been to such a rude establishment.

Set between St.Annes and Lytham. Parking is easy enough in an evening. Went on a Saturday night and were amazed to see there was only 2 other tables taken and this seriously impacted ambience The menu is typical chinese standard fayre and prices are very good. Waiting staff ~ Gentleman who was acting head waiter was great. He was literally running up and down, jumping and spinning. The staff were not wearing uniforms and were in sweaters and trainers which we considered very lack lustre given folk usually make an effort to dress up when they go out and expect same from waiting staff. Service ~ The service was absolutely pants. We asked for prawn crackers and waited 40 minutes for them to arrive with starters served at 50 mins. Our mains were served after 90 minutes. In our opinion, this is far too slow. All in all we were there for 2.5 hours!! We concluded that take aways were getting priority. Food ~ Delicious, hot and portions were large. During our 2.5 hours there, only 3 other tables came in for sit downs. Sorry to say that if the service is this slow, there is no wonder! In addition, we noticed that there was a constant stream of complaints coming in on the phone about take away food and items missing. Of the tables which were in, we overheard 2 of them complaining. On basis of slow slow service, I am afraid we won't be returning and there is no wonder the place was so empty. Toilet was out of order so everyone had to share

Poor service and mediocre food. Ribs from the chewiest piglet around. main course for all of us was disappointing in quality, taste and portion size. Garlic rice was claggy like it had been finished off in a microwave.

Came here a handful of times 25+ years ago so thought it was about time to try it again after some recent recommendations. Really friendly service by the two young ladies front of house, delicious food, superb wine and great value. We’ll be back soon.

Walked past 88 many times while walking the dogs and always wanted to try it as it’s only a 10 minute walk from the house in St Anne’s. The staff were so welcoming and friendly. We went for the set menu as it was a Tuesday evening. Starter was amazing. Piping hot and freshly cooked and plenty of it. Soup was also really good. The mains were huge and very tasty. So much food. Icing on the cake is the owner is from Malaysia so she and Toby had conversation. Highly recommend.

The smell of stale frying put me off as I walked in the door. The crispy duck was tasty and portion size was good but I found the beef with onions and ginger very bland.

I think some people complain just to complain. Lovely people, lovely food!! My husband and I have been coming here for years and have never had a problem.

Came here for a birthday meal with my sister. On entry we felt a bit awkward and not very welcomed eventually we did get good service. Started were lovely really good but the curry was not very nice, too greasy/oily and creamy for me. Not everyone picking up food for takeaway was wearing a mask which I found a little off putting. We didn’t like the fact that the background music was all pop/dance music, it felt a more ‘pub’ environment. Atmosphere was not right for a Chinese restaurant. We will go again but will have a different main.

Not covid ready. Clearly no staff hand washing or sanitising as the dirty plates were being cleared and they were straight back out to the restaurant area no gap long enough for a 20 second hand wash as is required under the new guidelines. 6:30 we arrived 7:45 we got our starters which I have to say were nice but other than that the rest of the food when it arrived was mediocre at best. Awful staff not only did she have a very abrupt attitude but she was quite happy to lean over us when putting the food down she also ended up with her sleeve in my lemon chicken whilst stretching over with another meal. We were sat in a pinch point where staff kept walking through with customers take alway orders and handing it to them when the guidelines state that they should be put down and the customer should then pick them up and then the area sanitised. I know these are strange times but guidelines are there for a reason. If it was not a special occasion for one of our party and they had arranged this we would have left. It was our first outing of this sort since the whole pandemic started and I can assure you this will be our last as all this has proved is that quite clearly some people think rules don’t apply to them and or that they are special in some way that they will not catch anything. Even the takeaway customers were allowed to just sit and wait without masks on.

Recently visited Eighty Eight Chinese restaurant, really enjoyed the food and overall atmosphere. The hot n sour soup was particularly good! Main course was great too. All the best, Andrew

As a guest here! I didn’t have any decisions to make. We had a couple of starters, a half duck and some mains. All was delicious, service great and bill reasonable.

This must be our third visit, the menu is quite extensive with great choices of well known and different dishes, as a group we all had a selection of starters mains and accompaniments. We got our drinks immediately on ordering the starters came very quickly, all nicely presented and full of character and taste. Our hot mains plates then came but unfortunately went cold before the mains came out, saying that the food was really good with very friendly service throughout. The only gripe was the very high price of the wine which might put people buying a bottle and having a glass instead

We sat on a table of four and ordered starters and mains. Our children are so picky! But ate everything! The food was so delicious and we even took some home, bliss! Our waiter was such a delightful young man and we should be back sometime soon! Maybe a takeaway :)

Exceeded expectations with the food, and brilliant atmosphere. First time visiting but very busy to say the least. Staff were organised and managed takeaways whilst serving our food with a smile... positive experience!

Just been for a meal with friends. What can I say I could not fault it some of us asked for things to be altered because of diet requirements it was no problem only to happy to oblige . Lovely clean and tidy restaurant very friendly staff. Would not hesitate to go back and will be recommend it to my friends.

We visited on a sat night. Half the restaurant was in darkness and there was an unpleasant smell on entering. However we were hungry so decided to give it a go. The next table had left most if their food....warning bells started to ring. We ordered the 'banquet". Small potions. Mostly tasteless. Poorly presented and at least 2 dishes unedible. We asked to speak to the manager. She was sceptical and did not appear to take our feedback seriously. She asked the chef to come out but he would not. We said we did not feel the meal was worth 22.50 each. She eventually sent a waiter over with the bill with 10 per cent off. No apology. Wont be back

We visit here regularly, the food is absoloutly fantastic. And very reasonably priced too, we always order of the set menu and are never disappointed! Fantastic

We have not eaten at 88 before or have had a Takeaway but have had some good feedback. We had a Takeaway last Saturday and it was absolutely superb! Will definitely use again.

We found out our usual Chinese had quite a low food hygiene rating and so went looking for a different one and thought we would try 88 as it scored top marks. And we were delighted that we did. Our takeaway was of excellent quality, very hot and full of flavour without loads of MSG. It was excellent value for money, perfect portion sizes and everyone demolished their meals, including my seven year old son. This will definitely become our new regular Chinese takeout!!!

Went in on a Friday night, not to busy, food ok, nothing outstanding, service good, however staff are not up to speed on table service or drinks, will visit again as it's not fair to judge on one visit.

The best Chinese in Lytham. My favourite. Never go anywhere èlse. Candy the best. The food is the best. I love this restaurant.

We ate dinner last night. The food was lovely especially the salt pepper squid. We tried a few starter to make our own platter and all were delicious.

I have used 88 for many years and have been rarely disappointed. The service from the owners was always excellent. Had a good take away this evening but felt the quality could have been a bit better. The menu could also do with a better selection of veg as extra.

First time of dining here. The food was of high quality, very tasty, plentiful and reasonably priced. The staff were very attentive and friendly and we will definitely return.

We went here as we had a Taste Card. They wouldn't fulfil what it said the Taste card offered, apparently they've had issues. Let that slide. We were brought the wrong sauce, food served with no plates, we had to ask, and my husband was mad when I still gave a tip. I chose to be generous despite their mess ups, the food was good and I figured maybe if they were happier the next people would get a better deal. Food was delicious though. Still, not sure I'd go back. This was definitely not a customer is always right restaurant.

Found this restaurant using my taste card , a small Chinese off the main road ...Lovely little place,friendly and welcoming....Food was adequate and more than enough portions wise...beware the vegetables hot n sour soup is HOT !! So couldn't do it justice,afterwards they said they could have altered it to make it less so,something to remember for next time !! Other wise everything was very nice ,including the house wine /beer ....no room for puddings !!

We have recently moved to near this restaurant and been meaning to try it out. Well worth the visit. It has to be the best Chinese food we have ever eaten. The place is spotless, the staff attentive, polite and quick. We just loved the place and would eat there every night if we could.

We decided to eat before going to the cinema and my wife had mentioned this venue many times so we decided to try it. It was early evening (6.15) and we thought we would be eating alone but when we entered it was very busy but we were welcomed and a table was found for us. A good menu was presented and we ordered, service was super and so was the food, we will be back.

We come here regularly, the banquet is excellent value for money, and the food is very satisfying. Lovely and friendly staff with a very relaxing atmosphere. We will keep coming back.

Food was good and plenty of it. All the usuals are available. Recommend you go Sun to thur to take advantage of banquet deal.

Spend a pleasant hour with my wife here. The food was nice enough and the staff very friendly. The service was very good. Not the best Chinese I've ever been to but I would certainly return.

This restaurant is very good, the menu is large... The seating is spaced out, nice pictures and quite mellow place, they also do take-away, and very good it is... Staff are great, and will talk to you, good Chinese beers.

I have to admit that I have driven past this restaurant many times in recent years, and only yesterday evening, following a recommendation from a friend, we decided to give it a try.The whole experience far exceeded my expectations. The setting inside belies the relatively modest frontage. It is beautifully decorated, with spacious tables, gentle music, and comfortable seating. The whole ambience was very good, and first impressions were top class.The owner, Candy, welcomed us and gave us a choice of tables, and then introduced herself, the restaurant and the extensive menu. She is a lovely lady, a perfect hostess, and very friendly and welcoming.We ordered soup with prawn crackers, snowflake king prawns and mongolian lamb. The food was brought to our table in good time, and we were never rushed. The quality of the meal was truly outstanding, and is as good, probably better, than I have ever experienced in any Chinese restaurant, both locally and elsewhere.This was a delightful evening, and we will be back, probably next week!

I have been here multiple times and served by the lady who appears to be in her mid to late 40s; the food is good and the takeout is moderately quick.

My family and I visit the eighty eight fairly frequently for birthdays, celebrations and special occasions and it has never disappointed. The food is always lovely and the staff are friendly, polite and efficient. Personally, I really should try a few other things on the menu, but the Crispy Mongolian Lamb is so good, I can never bring myself to order anything else! The atmosphere is very relaxed and the background music is subtle enough to be pleasant and doesn't interfere with conversation. It's tucked away in Ansdell and isn't as big and flash as Chu's in Lytham but the food is equally as good, and their speciality dishes can't be found anywhere else. My family will continue to be loyal customers of this little hidden gem for as long as they're open. We have such a nice relaxed time every time, it's hard to even consider going elsewhere.

Been here many times to both sit in and also to take away. My grandchildren rate it as the best Chinese they have ever been to and can't wait to go again. Whereas it's possibly not the best it certainly is exceptional value for money.

We have listened to lots of people rave on about 88 so tonight we decided to try it instead of one of our usual two Chinese take away places. We had the same as we always have and I have to say I'm really disappointed the rice was over cooked, the duck I had wasn't great and the sauce was really poor. I asked the Mrs how hers was and even though she had something totally different she said it her meal was bland and pretty tasteless. People obviously love the place. However it isn't for us.

I came here last weekend for my dinner and the quality of the food was just amazing! The staff were polite and the manager was kind. I am definitely going to come back again! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anybody!

We are in our early 50s but act younger. This place, although promising externally was just so strange. A much older age group, dressed as you would expect for their age, with a few youngsters here and there, hip music for a younger generation in the background, all served by attentive young bar staff. Having said that , the Mojito was 'ok' We stayed for one drink then went elsewhere...not much choice, and spent the evening discussing the experience!

The food never lets us down, it's always so good! Staff are lovely as always and there's always such a nice atmosphere. I would highly recommend.

We are always greeted by our names and given a warm welcome. The manager and staff are attentive and friendly and the food is great and excellent value for money. The house white is lovely. We live 88!

We come here because the family that run it are very family friendly, take the time to know their customers and the food is lovely. Nothing is too much trouble. We try different things on the menu but the children always have the same. We're never disappointed, whether we are in the restaurant or takeaway the quality is great.

Eight of us were served an excellent banquet. The staff were polite, attentive and efficient. The food was great and plentiful.

A regular at the 88 for takeout and occasionally sitting in, I wouldn't go anywhere else. The service is always wonderful and the food is consistently great.

Visited the 88 with my partner and my parents and can honestly say it's the best Chinese restaurant around the Fylde area. Restaurant is incredibly clean and the food is spectacular - something for everyone! Very tasty and perfectly cooked. The owner and staff are incredibly helpful! Would highly recommend

we phoned ahead to see if they could fit in a 'two' on what we thought would be a busy saturday night. yes we can do that from 8.15 onwards We got there to find that there was one other table in the whole restaurant. They got the order wrong on starter and main course and presented a bill that wasnt itemised just a grand total. i was refused an itemised bill when i asked for one. the owner was very off hand and rude. i said i had been coming here for 20 years but would not be back. I had even been to the venue when it was an italien 'topo gigio' The young waitress was fine and did her best but i suspect in difficult circumstances. Avoid unless you like poor food/top prices/rude treatment and wrong orders.

We thought the food was not up to standard for the price. Also appeared deco wise very shabby. For the prices charged very expensive and every time we have visited there are empty tables on a saturday night?? We wont be visiting again.

Visted may 15, was staying in Southport with my husband for a night, we stayed in this bar most of the evening, trendy, great prices, clean ,would visit again next time we are in southport.

Hadn't booked but we managed to get a table easily. Staff helpful and friendly. Food was served hot and when we were ready for it. Lots of choice and the meal we had was presented well and cooked perfectly. A bit expensive but it was a special night out, so we had more than usual.

I keep trying 88 every 6 months or so, but it never improves enough to make me rush back.The food is often too watery, and over salted. The overall quality doesn't seem to hit the competition a bit further away be it in Lytham or St. Annes.Even with staples like spring rolls and dumplings they seem to fall a little short. Beef curry is fine, but that's probably the most 'stock' dish a Chinese can deliver. Anything off menu and they seem to really struggle and it all tastes the same.The decor in the restaurant is looking tired and I can't see myself coming back for another 6 months, just in case.I wish it was better cos it's so handy.

We eat regularly here and have never had a poor meal. The staff are pleasant and helpful, the menu is extensive and the food great.Disabled access is OK and the classroom facilities are good.

The Chinese that we choose for eat in and take away, The food is consistently excellent as is the service and atmosphere. Not the cheapest but in my opinion one of the best in the area.

Went to the 88 last week, and came back again last night, we ordered the lamb and and the chicken satay as a main and it was perfect, definitely recommend to anyone wanting Chinese in the area! Reasonable prices, friendly staff and a good atmosphere!

I Visit with my partner and get take out on a regular basis. Personal favourites are the Thai chilli chicken for a lovely sweet dish and the Mongolian lamb is to die for. Staff are lovely. Would highly recommend!!!

I visited the chinese restaurant on Friday 6th March 2015 and ordered a beef curry to takeaway. When I got it home the beef was not cooked and looked raw, and very red and on tasting the rice this was very bland and had a strange taste. I took this straight back to the restaurant, where the woman who served me could not give me my money back quick enough. Horrible experience, I will never return. Very poor for £7,80.

Food was fab,starters of pau pau platter soup and spring rolls,main course duck in ginger and spring onion mongolian lamb and crispy shredded chicken in chilli sauce,really good enjoyed by all,service was great as usual,the owner is hands on and a very pleasent lady,

Visited on saturday 10 of jan with my girlfriend as usual a lovley welcome by the owner,orderd two starters smoked tree chicken and lettuce wraps both very nice,main course mongolian lamb which was fab side dish of salt and pepper chips and mixed veg,great meal good price and attentive and polite staff.

You won't be disappointed with the food in this restaurant, plenty of and very tasty.The staff are very friendly and accommodating nothing is to much trouble.It was that good I've already booked my New Years party there.

Considering the recent excellent reviews, we were very disappointed. The restaurant was so cold that my wife had to wear her coat (no apology from the staff). The starters (kebab chicken satay and lettuce wrap) were bland. There are better Chinese restaurants in the area.

I love the food, particularly the special chow mein, its nice lovely staff and owner so friendly too, we will visit again.

After my first visit to Eighty Eight, I would have given 5/5 without hesitation, but did not have time to sit and write a review at the time. After my second visit just 3 weeks later, my score would have been 3/5 so I have given an average of 4/5.The cleanliness and ambience of the restaurant is fine, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. We could not fault the food on our first visit, but at the time only one other table was occupied. On our second occasion, the restaurant was far from full, but there were several other groups of diners at the same time. Although the quality of the food was good, service was a tad slower and the food was not served piping hot, in fact it was just warm. I would give the benefit of the doubt and dine at eighty eight again. At the moment from 2 visits, I have rather mixed feelings.

Nice, pleasant restaurant with good quality food - not too pricey - and the Chui Yim mushroom is particularly tasty.

Excellent food,the staff are very friendly and make you feel very welcome.we regularly visit here at least 3 times a month and it never disappoints also you can take away and the food is just as good as we live 12 miles away and is worth the drive.

Drinks were very expensive and the outside service was anything but attentive, probably best to give it a miss.

Great restaurant tucked away in Ansdell, serving superb cantonesefood by very attentive pleasant owners.Will be going back there in the very near future for another feast.

Not visited the restaurant for some time since the previous owner sold it on, however I am very pleased that the new owners have maintained if not improved the very high standard already achievedMuch enjoyed and recommended, will certainly return. Thank you for a lovely evening.

We've only eaten here a couple of times, but this is definitely our new favourite Chinese in town. The portions are generous, the food is fresh and the staff are lovely. Highly recommended!

This restaurant is very close to home and so is somewhere I have visited over the years but not for a while and have only just experienced the new management.We attended for a large family meal (8 adults) and had a very positive experience. We had the set meal A (just over £15 per person) and there was plenty of food!! We did order a couple of extra dishes as we had one vegetarian in the group and there is only 1 veg dish in the banquet and the special rice is not meat free either.The food, service and location are great and it was just as good as ever!

I've eaten hear twice and loved it twice , staff are very friendly , the food is excellent , very cosy and pleasant , I've even had their take out a dozen times & can't fault it , love it

Very last minute decided to try here. The warm decor matched the warm and friendly welcome. Hot n sour soup was delicious as was the main courses. We will definitely recommend and go back again.

I was with some friends all day on Fairhaven lake - we were starving at 930pm on a Friday. We all ate and drank for 40 pounds, really generous and kind staff, beautiful decor, 5* food. Brilliant. Never been before yesterday but have booked a table of 20 for my staff do in two weeks. Can't recommend this place enough. Get to the 88!

I used to come here and years ago it was the best Chinese in the area by far. Since then, the prices have gone up a lot while the quality stagnated and based on my last visit the food was average, expensive and the restaurant was dead. Good service though and friendly front of house. Hope it regains it's former grandeur.

Not eaten in the restaurant to be honest but always a take away a I live very close, food is very good especially the crispy lamb and always fresh and hot.Lovely staff and very good value for money.

Excellent from start to finish.Friendly service, the best Chinese food I've tasted ( especially the snowflake chicken) and a very reasonable set menu. Only improvement I can think of is the addition of draught beers, but their absence far from spoiled the excellent experience!

after reading reviews we decided to give this place a try. we were not dissapointed. fantastic food and service. we were looked after from start to finish. lovely owners who couldnt do enough for you. cant wait to return.

We have been eating several times a year at The Eighty Eight since it opened nearly 19 years ago, and we cannot understand why it is Lytham St Annes best kept secret. The food is delicious, service first class & attentive & prices are by comparison to other Chinese restaurants in the area, very, very reasonable & so is the wine list. Our last visit was on 30/06/12 and as expected we enjoyed the food very much, especially the salt & pepper mushroom starter (mushrooms in light batter with garlic & chillies). My wife raved about the pork in satay sauce & my extra hot vegetarian curry, both served with chilli rice was perfect. Book a table and see what you have been missing!

I am am a local of Lytham St. Annes and have seen the outside of this restaurant when passing through Ansdell many times, and yet have never ventured inside. The other day when looking for a place to eat with friends I decided that I would give Eighty Eight a try out of curiousity. I was pleasantly surprised by what I discovered, the restaurant had some very pleasant interior with a nice atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming and the food was delivered promptly and was delicious. Upon receiving the bill and realising how reasonably priced it was my friends and I decided to make this our local place for chinese food. I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant.

We went after reading the reviews on here and were expecting something special, what a big disappointment, the area where we had our meal was like sitting in a 70s museum, the tables had old plastic tablecloths, I expected the owner to come out with a tea pot and knitted cover. the food was way too fatty the tempura battered king prawns were not tempura just normal batter you get from a chip shop it was heavy and oily. the starters where fatty and over done, I did tell the person taking our money that we would not be returning but she did not seem that bothered.

Billy (the owner of the restaurant) was a fantastic host. I dined here with my family last month and we all agreed that we will definitely be coming back!The food was fresh - I would highly like to recommend the Snowflake Prawns (it's sort of like a tempura but fluffier, very tasty), but everything we ordered was just perfect with careful attention to detail and heaps of flavour.Best Chinese in Lytham!

The Eighty Eight has become our first port of call for chinese food in the area! have been a few times now having tried most of the restaurants about. I must say Billy and his family always make us feel right at home and the food is consistently brilliant. Best restaurant for us!

If ever we are in the mood for Chinese food, the Eighty Eight never disappoints - you can just tell when ingredients are fresh, it really is a cut above the rest!

Theres only one place i go when its for a chinese and its always to see billy at the eighty eight, been going since i was a young lad and on this occasion, visited on chinese new years with the family, A regular thing for us, but on this occasion i felt the need to praise just how good the food is, the restaurant does lack a bit of atmosphere for me, but its made up for the Billy and the exceptional food we received, shared the mixed starter and then had the sirloin steak in blackbean sauce, one of the best chinese meals I've ever eaten, thus why i felt the need to praise this place so much! Go you will be disappointed!

Billy is a great host, always good food. Best Chinese in the area.
