Charlotte was a lovely waitress, took care of us through our meal. Food was delicious, and the vibes were great!

Food was delicious at was served within a reasonable timeframe. Waitstaff were professional and accommodating. We were served by Taisia. When they learnt we were celebrating, they surprised us with a sparkler in the celebrant’s desert. Overall, we had an enjoyable evening at Ego.

We had the bread and oils to start and they were not as described. The bread was simple sliced bread, stale and dry. How could you expect to get away with that I’ll never know. The steak was good though.

In the past I have had good food and a good experience but the last time I was there I ordered the courgette and sweet corn fritters. What a disappointment. The fritter was cold and rock hard. I could hardly get my knife through it and it was inedible. We had pleasant service until I complained from then on they didn't come near us. I had no dinner and left hungry. They didn't charge us for the meal but there was no apology or any compensation. I was appalled at the treatment we received.

It's getting to be the No1 choice for lunches, weekdays or a Sunday lunch. The main reason it's because I require gluten free meals and the choices are great for me. My last visit was for lunch and we were served by Llesi. She was efficient and genuine.

Lovely experience at Ego at The schooner in penarth. Booked lunch for 6 to celebrate my mums 90th birthday. Lovely atmosphere , extensive menu to suit all tastes from age 8- 90 . Exceptional service . Thank you charlotte for your lovely service and making my mums birthday lunch fabulous .

Incredibly slow service, kitchen and staff clearly not able to cope when multiple big parties are present. Cold pizza, overcooked chicken strips for children, steak requested to be medium-rare and served as medium-well. Hanging kebab disappointing; advertised as chicken and chorizo yet contained more vegetables than meat, accompanying salad was 2/3 onion. End of meal my sister requested a glass of warm milk only to be served a COLD PINT OF MILK. Won’t be returning in a hurry

Had Lunch with mother in law and my husband. We ordered 2 corse meal deal but bill came with all separately charged. My husband asked reception, our meal wasn't included 2 corse meal even though, we ordered within 2 corse meal. This is clearly misreading and not clear for the customers.

Been here several times and its never disappointed me. Came here for my birthday with my family x9 including 2 toddlers. Two of the family were delayed, so we asked if we could order the children's first. Wasn't an issue with either the delay or ordering the childrens meals first. All the staff are very friendly and nothing was a problem for them. The atmosphere and the decor were nice and relaxing. The food was lovely and well presented. Only one issue, my son had asked for a medium steak, but it was more medium to well done. He wished he asked for medium rare. He still enjoyed lol. Rest of the meals where perfect and very enjoyable. Definitely worth a visit either before or after you've walked around Cosmeston lake 🙂

Visited Ego Penarth today and have visited many times and never dissapointed . Sadly today I ordered the Greek Salad but it was 2/3 red and white onion. Very dissaponting and had to leave it . I ordered the chicken to accompany it . It was a little overcooked and tough for a chicken breast . I have ordered this before and was not dissapointed . Not enough tomato or chunky cucumber and the feta was smaller than last time . I wont be ordering this again . My family enjoyed their meals but sadly today it felt over pruced for what we had.

I have visited the restaurant twice. On the first occasion the food, drink and service were very good, on the second visit the service and food were OK but both pints of traditional beer I had were disgusting. The restaurant is fairly expensive and you pay a service charge on top of the food and drink costs. If I recall correctly VAT is added to the total, thus the menu prices are without VAT. There's a booking charge when you make reservations. I thought these were quite stiff considering that most restaurants locally don't charge. Overall, the dining experience is good but not exceptional, the costs are likely to be about £40 - 50 per person if you are not extravagant and you will pay a booking fee at about £8-10 per person. The atmosphere is pleasant as are the staff and the food is tasty.

Calamari was cooked I'm cold oil so came out greasy and chewy, pasta was fine once I realised the sauce had not been mixed in so once was fine but needed more seasoning for my taste.

2 hours and no mains. Unacceptable service. We sat down at 5 and sitting here still now at 7pm with no mains yet. The kids are screaming to got to bed. When the food comes we will have to eat in shifts whilst the other takes the kids outside to keep them from screaming. Awful place with no respect for its customers

We were a party of eight including 2 children 8 and 10yr old. Good food, great atmosphere and excellent service, evening family get together with one member from Australia that we had not seen for 10 years.

Have always had a great experience here. The food is great, as is the service. Loads of parking. The portion sizes are not small!! The atmosphere is friendly, warm and welcoming. The Old Schooner has done well!

You can tell when food is cooked with love. Sadly this isn't the case here. Style over quality or substance. Staff were lovely, but I feel for them, they can't be unaware that this place is overpriced and mean portioned. Nothing was quite what it should be. Potatoes dauphinous were a palid and pathetic ghost of what they should be. Kebab was ok, but not worth the price. My husband was really hungry afterwards. Ok food, but soulless and overpriced for what it is. Typical chainfood with no oomph.

Went for lunch this week and I had the steak and ale pie and my wife had the muscles, my pie came in a tin which was very small only a pastry topper , the meal was very small like a child's meal. I'm not a big fella ,so we had dessert after sticky toffee pudding , swimming in a sauce of some sort.we left still hungry ,including 2 half's of cider £48 alot for a small lunch

Sadly four of our party were unhappy with their meals. Overcooked steak, soggy chips and returned pizza. A pity as venue had lovely atmosphere and staff attentive.

I’d check this place out again for sure, given we went on mothers day it felt a little rushed to get the covers in and out which took the edge off a bit. But the food was good

Absolutely amazing! Came here for fathers day and I loved every minute! The service was brilliant, the food was to die for! Lovely atmosphere and a really lovely and welcoming feel to the place. My Mum, daughter and I went for Mother's Day. Everything was excellent, even though it was extremely busy we were served so well, and had no complaints at all. Would definitely recommend and will be coming back. Thank you for a lovely Mother's Day.

We had a 3 0'Clock booking for Mother's Day. I expected the restaurant to be busy... and it was! Congratulations to all the staff for 'keeping the show on the road'! The restaurant was full when we arrived and full when we left ..... three and a half hours later! We arrived 15 minutes early and were shown to the bar as our table wasn't ready..... the bar staff were very helpful and found chairs for us and opened up a tab with no fuss and all with a smile! We were finally sat down at 15:15. Our starters were served at 16:00. It semmed an age before our orders were taken....... Main Course served at 16:45.... dessert at 17:50! My ladies were delighted as it meant they got a second bottle of wine! As designated driver and 'host' I wasn't so delighted! The food was excellent. Portions not generous but adequate. Some extra vegeatbles would have been welcome. One diner was Coeliac and was very pleased to see the GF options available..... except for the desserts. I gave an extra cash tip as the staff were clearly working very hard, and with a smile in spite of the numbers of guests to please. I hope they all got a bonus for the day! One small thing. I didn't feel that any one waitress/waiter 'owned' our table....... which might partly explain the delays. But my 'guests' were happy all the same.... probably due to the second bottle of wine!

Whilst the food was good the service was poor on this occasion. This was due to too many customers or not enough staff. We were also asked if we were going to tip. A first for me!

Our Mother’s Day lunch was a real treat. Delicious food and lovely friendly staff. The restaurant was busy and the standard of the food was still excellent.

Mothering Sunday, took my 91 yr old mum for lunch, mum was disappointed there were no basics on the menu, expecting a Sunday lunch, or even fish and chips. For the rest of us the food and menu was very nice, though expensive per head, being a special menu for mother's day. £105 for 4 people, no alcoholic drinks, +£10 deposit per head.

This was enjoyable. We had a lot of space to sit comfortably at the table as a family of four (a real issue these days with tiny tables). Customer service was friendly, if a touch distant. We were served by very young people who were still learning their jobs. We asked (my partner is coeliac) whether any of their side dishes were gluten free. The usual response would be to check with the kitchen. We were met with a blank look and "I don't know" response. The quality of the food was good and reasonably priced at £32.95 for three courses. All in all, a pleasant few hours.

We had a lovely lunch, the service was very great, the waitresses were very helpful. The food was fantastic. We will deffinately be back, we love it here.

A very poor performance today I am sad to say. They simply overbooked and could not cope, initially they tried sitting the 3 of us on a table for 2, and we moved! At least one dish from each course was cold and there was a long wait, table behind us waited 30 mins for their starter. Normally, food and service is fantastic but 'maybe' corporate greed crept in today. Very dissatisfied.

Booked in for mother's Day lunch table of 6 of us. It was very busy in there so didn't expect service to be too fast but waited easily half an hour between every course. Food was fine, nothing special and not worth the money charged but no complaints on that front. Service was unacceptable, seemed like the restaurant was overbooked and understaffed we had very little communication between courses except from a magician (?) who was presumably hired to keep tables entertained whilst they waited. We didn't have any small children at our table so this just felt bizarre and not in keeping with the tone of the restaurant. Sat down at 1345 and didn't pay the bill until gone 4. One of our party asked for a coffee instead of a dessert. Coffee never arrived but was still added onto the bill. Waited that long for someone to take payment we went to the front desk to pay and saw there were actually loads of staff waiting at the kitchen for food to take and not attending to their tables. Very poor, maybe try and make sure you can look after the tables you have rather than squeezing as many people in as possible for a greater profit.

Food and Service was very good as always, the only issue was the service charge that was added onto the bill which I didn't notice until the following day, as I always tip because the service at ego is so good I did feel that I was taken advantage of, that being said it won't stop me from going back as I'll double check the bill and have the service charge removed. EGO you need to point this out to your customers.

Mothering Sunday was a let down, first of all they tried to put us a table for 2 and there was 3 of us and advised it was because they were fully booked, advised that we would go elsewhere and they found 2 tables for us. At least one dish for each course was cold, we have eaten here a lot and this was far below there usual standard, they overbooked and could not cope, service was slow and we saw tables around us waiting 30 mins for a starter. Very disappointed.

Good was cold it was replaced and the potatoes were not cooked.

Food was fantastic and the staff we had soup and the goats cheese for starters then the chicken and the prawn linguine for main we will be going back.

Food was delicious. Table was perfect. Waitress Manager were polite and helpful. The wait for food and particularly drinks was atrocious. Sat down at 4pm , didn’t get drinks until 4.45pm. Ate dessert at 7pm. A full 3 hours after sitting down. Sort out your service times and it’s an amazing restaurant

Been many times, always for lunch. I was so happy to have gluten free wraps with the hanging kebab yesterday rather than GF bread. The staff are consistently friendly, the menu is eclectic. It's a busy place, I hope it continues.

I have been looking forward to trying Ego for a while but I wasn’t overly impressed when we went today. We didn’t get a very friendly welcome from the staff (they seemed a bit irritated to see us). The food was nice but a little bland. The ladies toilets were out of order and I struggled to find where to go, no one seemed to want to help. Very mediocre overall. Certainly nothing special.

Love this restaurant. There is so much choice on the main and vegan menus. Food and service are great. This is now on our list of favourite places.

My friend and I had a lovely meal to celebrate my 50th birthday. We had tasty, well presented food, served by really nice friendly staff in a beautiful setting. The tables are well spaced out so you don’t feel crowded. We weren’t rushed and it’s excellent value for money.

Great Gluten Free options. Friendly staff, good service, lovely food. The Strawberry and Passionfruit Eton Mess was the best I have ever had - compliments to the desserts chef!

Poor welcome on arrival, the table we were shown to was next to the entrance door not a comfortable position for dining, the music was too loud and inappropriate. We asked to be moved to another table which was not much better. I had pate...

Sunday roast I think was quite poor, in particular the meat. Beef was either sliced with very sharp knife or razor blade and really poor quality. Service was exceptionally poor. Not really sure why there was a service charge put on bill but as I am sure everyone aware you can ask them to remove this and to be fair they did so without question. I personally like to tip for good service and Ego supplied anything but that.

A last second Monday night decision to eat out. Walked in an asked if we could have a quiet table. Sorted. Waiter (Callum) gave us a few minuets and came over to take our drinks order. Came back a few minuets after being the drinks...

Really long wait. Booked at 6pm and didn't get dessert until 8.30pm, so about 45mins wait per course. Ran out of 2 of the 4 meats for BB Sunday lunch, as well as some sides. When it eventually arrived it was luke warm. Vegetarian pizza...

The Ego is a fabulous spot for a relaxing lunch. Excellent service and delicious food. The staff are friendly, polite and attentive.Particularly like the excellent spacing between tables which provides plenty of space to enjoy a chat

Went for an evening meal on a Sunday about 7pm told on arrival all roasts had gone I had a just ok pan fried chicken with very poor roast potatoes and rock hard Yorkshire pudding. My wife had the fish which she enjoyed. It was booked as a birthday meal but no acknowledgement of this event. We left disappointed.
