Efes BBQ in Central Bedfordshire

Not the best Turkish restaurant. My partner and I order the Efes sharing platter for two. For the price of £79, the portion size was very small. A platter with a ridiculous amount of spoons inside and a small bowl of salad. The bulgur was overcooked and the lamb chops were not cooked properly….

Obviously my feelings about the atmosphere are subjective. The service was fine, but and for me it’s a big but, it was outrageously overpriced. Perfectly good food, but I wouldn’t expect to pay more than half the price that you charge. I really hate leaving a bad review and clearly I’m in a minority because astonishingly, the place was packed. I guess people can choose what they want to spend their money on and you must be doing something right so best of luck to you.

Disappointing Experience After a Great First Visit I’ve had an amazing experience at Efes in the past, but unfortunately, this time it was a complete letdown. Our waiter seemed disorganised, inexperienced and inattentive. He got every part of our order wrong, and we had to repeatedly chase him just to place our order. We were left waiting for long periods between each step of our meal. When it was time for the cake, we were faced with further delays. We also had to wait further for utensils- all of which felt like we were an inconvenience rather than valued customers. To top it off, when we asked for the excessive service charge to be removed, the waiter insisted that it was "mandatory law," which was clearly a lie and not worth the poor service. I’m really disappointed with how things turned out this time, and I hope they can make improvements moving.

I visited this place yesterday evening with a group of 25 People. The place is absolutely Stunning , with warm environment! Food qas Amazing and delicious. Service was very accurate ! Staff was friendly and welcoming. Prices are too reasonable as per me !! Everyone was happy End of the Day.. Thank you EFES BBQ STAFF for your service !!

The price of the food is just ridiculous they are robbing you. I don't know why are people silly enough to pay £100 for one platter. For that price i can get nearly whole lamb. I don't know what they think they are Michelin star?

Went last night.Overall the restaurant was neat and clean but the food was overpriced. They serve Turkish bread which isn't even turkish bread its thin nan slices. We ordered Efes platter which says its enough for 4 people which is not its for 2 people. The portions was so small. Lamb chops are not tender at all its not properly cooked they were raw. Chicken wings were not cooked properly either its literally Red. 🤮🤢 And when we complained to the waiter he walked off Don't even listen at all Not recommended at all.

I've been here a few times now. It seems every time I go, here has been a significant price hike. This time when I went there was about 20 of us. They double charged a few of us for drinks. I'm not sure I will be returning here.

Today I went to Efes for my Son's Birthday party...We were 25 people and had a great time there. Service was very warm and welcoming. Staff was very friendly and helpful. They were very attentive and they knew thr job very well. Food was amazing and delicious🤤 Hat's off to the Chefs.....They serve sizzling Hot food to you and no need to wait long for food. No more to say about Food. Its always the best !! ☺️ They do have cocktails and Mocktails, Served decorated and Presentable. No complaints !! A nice collection of Desserts.... We will definitely visit again soon.... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ❤️❤️❤️

Customer service was pretty poor, although food was satisfactory and on time. Charged for water bottles and had to remind several times to recieve tap water then charged for water bottles. Restaurant was busy however plenty of waiters were running a round and kept on responding yes to each request. Either they have a problem understanding or just ignoring.

Very overpriced for the amount of food. Price increased compared to the online prices. Shocking amount for a service charge on the bill without any notice of this. Really disappointed to say the least. £25+ for a few bits of shish and a chicken kofta! I thought i was going crazy

Me and some friend went for a birthday there were 15 of us and had a great meal and a great server would definitely recommend to people to go down and try it out as well as a great meal the price was justified by the quality of the food and staff as well as the atmosphere

Went there few days ago with a couple friends. Had a great time, amazing food and good atmosphere and incredible value for money. Employees very welcoming and entertaining would definitely go again and recommend paying a visit.

Absolutely gutted, came here 2 years ago and it was great, Well fast forward to Today it was absolutely rubbish, service was dire quality of food was even worse but the portion sizes was Embarrassing for the money paid, Ordered the large ADANA kebab and it was so small god knows what the medium whould of been, no side salad no veg, no cracked wheat, a small slither of bread size of a finger the rice was straight out of a uncle Ben's pack and you could count the chips on one hand. The service was dire and whenever we called the waiter it would turn into a argument for some simple service or to correct the order. I would be embarrassed to run a place like this or recommend it to anyone. Obviously a scam as no business person would hold their head up high and be proud of this place. Better places to go nearby with better value and service as well, Do not book this place unless you want a rubbish dining experience. Anyone with any real dining knowledge should avoid this place and if the owner is worth their salt should reply to this post explaining what's gone wrong.

I’ve had more flavor and effort in a microwave meal from the corner shop. Amaazing food! The whole experience from start to finish is great waitress is always so friendly and kind. It is expensive but it is worth it. Best Turkish food and desserts are fabulous. The interior patterns are wonderful and make me feel special.

So where do we start? The restaurant itself is nice inside however, can be a trap. Now it says is Turkish right??? But run by Indian nationals... Prices ....well very very high , a mixed kebab with rice ( instead of the fries I ordered) is 39 pounds ! yes , you heard me ! Then the waiters forgets about you and goes to their favourite clients and when you try to ask them something , they will tell you off. The waiters , again mixing orders or bringing someone else to take your order cause....they cannot remember what you ordered! The total bill for two people , higher than London , very close to Florida US! Also do not forget the service charge of 15 pounds! When challenged, the waiter looked at us and said " well that's mandatory and you have to pay!" Definitely a trap , do not recommend!

It was poor service in general. Food was not testy. There were many workers walking around the restaurant but no one cared about the guests. I ordered King Efes Special for 4 and I was hopping that what can go wrong with it, but the meat was full with fat and the portion was enough for 2, not 4 people. The drink were always delivered late and not accurate. The atmosphere was not friendly and welcoming. I don’t see myself ever going back there again.

Here’s a more concise and elegant version: This used to be my favorite Turkish restaurant, but my recent visit was disappointing. Portion sizes have shrunk, quality has dropped, and to top it off, a £25 service charge was added without prior notice. They falsely claimed it was mandatory by law, which it isn’t, leaving a bad impression. Paying over £185 for three people felt unjustified for a meal that no longer lived up to its reputation.

My sole reasoning for giving them a 3* is the price, sharing platter for the starters (MEZZE) & sharing platter for 4-6 people (MAINS). Effes BBQ 3 years ago was the best Turkish restaurant in my humble opinion. When you got a sharing platter starters it would be sharing! It was full of delicious starters. Now I would say they just dotted with a large spoon cold / hot starters on a large plate & labelled it, “sharing”. For the price, sorry not worth it at all. They never did this a few years ago. A few years ago sharing would mean SHARING. As prices go up, from time to time, that is understandable. But paying for dotted starters is not something that’s acceptable. Now mains! For the price again, not worth it at all. The quality of the food amazing, I can never dispute that, but the quantity for what you’re paying no yes! I recently went to another restaurant out of Luton/ Dunstable & the price difference for the amount of food for X amount of people definitely made me think something isn’t right. The maths is not mathing. 🙄 Turkish tea is 10/1000000 cannot complain, always full of flavour & tastes sooo amazing. The waiters / staff are always so welcoming & kind & so good, but what lets Effes down is the portion size & the price that goes with it. Our bill was a hefty one, but next time I think instead of sharing platters it would be better to get individual meals instead. I would still recommend this dining place, I cannot fault them in quality!

I ordered 3x shish plus I tub of humour and was charged £76 its cheaper to buy a kebab in Central London.

I came in 2021 first for my birthday and it was absolutely brilliant place and me and my wife really enjoyed. Lately I was told by many of my family and friends this place gone downhill. Today me and wife came here for my birthday angain. Me and wife were really disappointed with really slow and dead service and atmosphere was like a funeral. I will not be coming here any time very soon. Neither not be recommending to any one. It’s shame this place was really nice and see it go downhill.

Been here several times but never actually reviewed. So based on my most recent visit I've given 3stars. I ordered the lamb chops with chips however I received rice and cous cous - waiter did kindly give a portion of chips. Unfortunately, the chips were a shambles - undercooked, super dry and hard to swallow. They provide the table with a tray of chilli and garlic sauce but a very stingy amount asked for another tray which took some time. Rice and cous cous was mid, quite tasteless but nice with some sauce. Lamb chops were very tasty - tender, fatty and succulent. Some pieces were a bit chewy but overall lamb chops were delicious. Taking everything into account, place is quite over priced but worth a visit in my opinion.

This place has gone so downhill! We paid 60 quid for nothing! Chicken was dry, they give you much smaller portions of salad and bread. No real flavour. Service was so bad that even the server agreed the service charge should be removed. Not offered baklava at the end. Save your money, this place used to be quality but is now a real rip off!

The service was bad , they didn’t clear the table and come check up on our table too see if everything is alright . After that we tired to decline service charge as it was poor and my friends got into a dispute with the owner and turns out everyone had to pay service charge separately as we were all paying separately which is not okay considering we were not impressed with the service. (FYI we paid way more than the initial service charge on the bill ) by law in the uk service charge is optional and they said It was mandatory that we paid which is messed up because why am I going to pay for a service that wasn’t good. I would not recommend this place to go out to eat as the service is completely unacceptable and the owner and some of the waiters were not nice!. Also prices have gone up heavily since the last time I went and portion sizes have gotten significantly smaller.

Me and my friends celebrate my wife birthday. We got the king Efes and mixed Mezze this is my 5th visit. We had Excellent time, the staff were friendly and service was 10/10 I would like to thank to Efes staff my wife had best birthday and she enjoyed. The food was delicious and honesty food service was very good. I cannot wait to go back.

Visited yesterday with my wife for her birthday dinner.Lamb chops at efes BBQ was perfectly seasoned and delicious, while Efes BBQ Chicken was equally flavorful. The barman's cooperation and attentive service enhanced the overall dining experience. A fantastic spot for a memorable meal with outstanding dishes and service. Highly recommended!

Very disappointed with the service; it was slow and unorganised despite having made a group booking for 11 people. The portion sizes were also very minimal compared to the price tag. Won’t be going back there again.
