ordered chicken chow mein , hardly any chicken two or 3 bamboo shoots no onion, just all noodles all for 6.68. pot noodles would have been cheaper.!!!!! the sweet and sour balls were soggy. avoid this takeaway

Ordered here a few times now. The chicken curry is amazing and very filling. Definitely would recommend this place to family and friends

Mixed meat dish consisted of 2 prawns and 3 small bits of chicken, quite tepid. Chips cold. Did have some slices if duck but that was listes as well as mixed meat, pretty poor

Been using this take away for 25 years, its now changed owners at least once in the last 5 years and the new owners have decided that doubling the size of the kitchen and delivery is the way to go. I always collect and the food is usually ready 15 minutes after ordering. however the last couple of times I have been the rice tastes like it has been pre-prepared, possibly sitting in the time for hours, the size of the portions is shrinking, dishes that came in large tubs now come in smaller tubs, the prices keep going up, possibly 2 or three times a year and the food quality is poor. We had chips with the last meal and they were still hard in the middle, soggy on the outside, the food tastes over seasoned, too much salt and most things taste of sugar now as well. Either fried food appear not quite cooked or it is overdone. Really disappointed so switched to another takeaway which is just up the road, only been there a couple of times but the service is equally as quick, the food tastes better, the prices cheaper and the portion sizes larger.

Probably one of the best Chinese Takeaways in the area. Food is always up to standard and service is always quick through the app. Moved home and had a home delivery for the first time and the food was piping hot and well packed. Highly recommended.

Have ordered from previous and was okay today omg it was un edible phoned straight away asked for refund. Which they paid back and took meal back.Will never order from here again .

I placed an order online on 28/08/23 which was 30 minutes before their opening time, paid, and I recieved an email that it was confirmed/accepted by the takeaway. 30 minutes later, they call to tell me it's been cancelled on their end, and I would have to pay again before they could deliver. Bearing in mind that just under £20 had already been deducted from my account, I asked them why I haven't recieved a cancellation email in that case - but they had no answer. So I paid again, and they again accepted the order. I've been monitoring my bank for the last week, and can see no refund of the duplicate payment I had made. I've called them today to look into this and they were swift to process a refund which should complete in 2 working days. I've just read other reviews with similar experience, so please beware - Their standards have unfortunately dropped in the last few years, and despite the increase in prices, their portions are much smaller now. It's a shame really. **UPDATE The lying thieves! No refund has been returned to my bank since my call to them on 4th September! 2 working days my a**?! I am beyond fuming and disgusted with this level of service, and as a Chinese myself, I can confidently advise anyone else to avoid this poorly managed and fraudulent takeaway. We alllll know why it's cash-only for in-house payments, and clearly now I also know why they're happy to take card payments through their online orders when they can't see the consumer in person. See my photo of 2 different order confirmations via email, that's proof in the pudding for you. At all cost - AVOID this takeaway.

Absolutely loved it. Family enjoyed the takeaway. It’s not are original go to Chinese, but it was delicious, hot and was ready to collect when time was given. The man on the phone was polite and helpful. Thankyou for a lovely dinner.

first time ordering and the last! salt n pepper chips were very dry like they had been reheated! asked for chow main and just got noodles! food doesn’t taste fresh!

We ordered from here for a while then they decided to stop delivery us after their driver crashed into our car and then they decided to lie to us and say they don’t have any more drivers available

I’ve ordered from this place a couple of times and to be fair not really had any issues. I have had to call once before and the guy on the phone was abrupt and rude. Tonight I have made an order, the restaurant has taken my money but cancelled the order. I called up to query this and was met with the rudest women I think I have ever spoke to. She shouted at me down the phone that they didn’t have a driver. I said you’ve taken my money so it’s fine I’ll just come and collect. “No” she shouted at me and continued to shout at me that the money would be refunded and hung up on me. I don’t think this place would ever have any time for you if your order had an issue. I’ll be doing a charge back on my bank account and will not be using this place again.

I am sorry to be writing this as I used to love this place but this place has really gone down hill, this used to be our regular, but lately the food has been hit and miss, and as of tonight the service has been poor. Items missing, waiting for replacements to be delivered and hung up on. Sadly eastern Chef, you have now lost our custom. Has there been a change of management recently??as something has clearly changed.

Ribs absolutely awful ordered salt and chilli ribs ..Still had bar b que on them from being bar b que ribs ..dry and terrible with not one hint of chilli...salt and pepper chips anaemic with uncooked onion and chilli just overall awful...have had a curry before nice but that's just pot stuff..really terrible never again 😑

The people doing flyers for them ignore no flyer stickers and stick them halfway through so both post flaps are jammed open tanking house temperature. I've decided to start reviewing companies based on the actions of the people representing them seeing as nothing else works

Chicken is lousy!!! The chicken served here is absolutely awful it's not proper fresh chicken but the processed rubbish you get from cheap meat markets. We will never use this takeaway again ever!!!!

My favourite Chinese in Coventry. I always order the Hot and Sour soup extra spicy, I haven't found a Chinese place in cov who do it better than eastern chef. And their Easter special fried rice just hits the spot when you crave for a Chinese style fried rice dish. Never had a bad experience. Customer service is excellent as well.

When I ask for chicken balls I expect chicken balls not them big long things!!

Hi I ordered some food last night that came in a pizza box and the food was not very appetising most of it was thrown in bin how can you prepare food that’s not a pizza in this way that was very poor and will not be ordering from you again as in my estimation your food as gone below par.

Doesn't even deserve any star. My usual takeaway for years Ordered munch box. Well over cooked looked like it was reheated. Phoned up to complain asked if we could order replacement and was literally thrown out of shop from chef and 3 other chefs. Refused any replacement Disgusting behaviour Never set foot inside there again

Best takeaway in Coventry, I have Chinese takeaways closer to where I live, however I would rather drive a little further to Eastern Chef as the food is delicious and very good portion sizes.

Fantastic sweet n sour chicken ball, lovely light batter and large potion size, delivered very quickly. Also ordered large spring roll but yet to taste. Thank you, delicious ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

First of all, the delivery service was good, on-time and the food was still hot. The crispy garlic and chilli chicken was really nice. Chips were ok and the sauces had flavour. The only let down was the beef chow mein, the beef was quite dry and chewy. It's hard to find a chinese takeaway that does decent beef, only Allseley House.

Haven't ordered from here for a couple of years due to bad service but thought I'd try again. Placed a £20 order at 6.30pm and delivery should have been at 8pm. Not arrived by 9pm after two phone calls. Apparently the driver had delivered to the wrong address and they offered me a measly £5 off my next order!! I told them there wasn't going to be a next order. Absolutely rubbish, I will never place an order with them again and would advise anyone else not to order for delivery because it just won't happen. Even 1 star isn't low enough.

We've been using eastern chef for a while now, always use the app. Recently the delivery's have been late, tonight it took 2 1/2hrs! When i called 2hrs after ordering i was told the order was on it's way. Food is good but the noodles can sometimes be very overcooked

Food from here is always amazing and great choices available my only issue is they are always late for delivery they always say 45 mins and is always over an hour and when you ring they say the same thing sorry we busy the driver is on way

Im editing my original post - Last night I had dinner at my friends house, he specifically ordered me a Mushroom Fuu Yung as I don't eat meat. I heard his order and it was NOT his error. The order would be delivered within 1 hour.... but 2 hours later the food arrived and I got chicken fuu yung. Food was pretty cold and when he called to advise that the meat dish was an error he was basically told that if i want it correcting then we'll have a long wait. I spent the first 10 minutes picking the chicken out by which time my chips and curry had gone COLD. The Eastern Chef is going very sloppy. I really must reconsider whether I myself will use them anymore. We've been regular users and it was pretty poor with no effort to correct it promptly. May go back to the Dragon Inn take away.

The best beef curry ever. Tender meat and plenty of it with gorgeous sauce. Delivery service was excellent too.

Since new people have taken over this place is not the same. The manager Tina is very rude. I placed an order and was delivered in half an hour. food was all wrong and i doubt was fresh. Chicken curry with no chicken and egg fried rice without egg. When i called Manager who tool order she said i got it wrong even though i repeated order twice back to her. She would not listen and insisted i was wrong. and said if i want chicken curry i have to pay extra. She redelivered again the correct dishes however i had to may more. chicken curry was disgusting. i would never order again from this place.

Food is good, but extremely slow delivery average wait time is an 1 hour even if ordered online never arrives on time.

Normally use this as my usual but tonight it was a absolute disaster, the order itself took over 90 minutes to arrive, we thought we would let it pass as it was a Saturday. But then when our food finally arrived the chicken in black bean sauce tasted bland and vile they have now lost a regular customer time to find somewhere else!

Delicious food. Delivered quickly and piping hot. Food was 5 star! The only Chinese I will use from now on.

I have tried many different Chinese’s in Coventry, but this by far my favourite. Big portions and reasonably priced. The curry sauce is especially tasty. I would recommend to anybody. So glad they deliver to Earlsdon too!

Good food and fast home delivery

We ordered over £20 worth of food. The main meal we asked for was Duck in Szechaun sauce.. When it came it was something else..we thought we might as well make do with it.. It was full of onions and not must else except 2 BLACK HAIRS.. When I phoned to complain they didn't even apologise.. Food has really gone down hill will not be eating here again.😠😠

We'd heard that this takeaway was great and worth trying from friends. The Chinese take away we've used for 20 years is excellent but doesn't offer delivery which is a pain. We decided to try Eastern Chef tonight as we wanted our food delivered. We are really pleased, food was fresh and cooked to our specifications. The portion sizes are great, and if you want to treat your kids to a take away they offer a kids meal deal.Try it, you won't be disappointed.

It's very nice food and recommend eating here.

Just found the corner from my house. When we first moved in we thought it looked a bit grubby from the outside but once we took the plunge we have never looked back. Great value. Massive portions. If getting delivery it's a long wait at the weekend but as previous review said it's worth the wait.

This is by far the nicest Chinese chicken curry I have ever had. I have used it for years and never had a bad meal. Staff are lovely and delivery only a pound. The chicken is big chunks and so so tender. Also the yuk sun is lovely. Very reasonable as well and big portions. I share a chicken curry and fried rice between two as no way could I finish one by myself. It gets very busy especially at weekends so be prepared to wait however well worth it as cooked fresh and also hot .
