£7 for a tiny plate of noodles to go with a £10.50 meal is very expensive

Lovely food and great quick service

Had an amazing experience here, the service was amazing, went in to collect and i didn’t wait long, i thought the food wouldn’t be fresh however the food was fresh and was amazing, the best chinese i been to around here. I had the SSS chicken balls which was cooked perfectly and filled with meat, i will definitely recommend.

So grateful to find a restaurant open midweek late in Bideford. We got off the Oldenburg ship back from Lundy Island. A warm reception and went for the set menu at £35 per person. Fantastic soup with whole prawns, five main dishes including duck in sauce, hot chicken, beef and lovely vegetables.

This is a stunningly good Chinese restaurant and takeaway. The food is always of a high standard and tastes bloody lovely. The menu is extensive and well priced. You must note that the portion size is as stated, if you want a meal for 4 it is a meal of 4 and not for more. Good thing is less wastage but does require additional orders to cater for more people which is no bad thing. The restaurant atmosphere is lovely with authentic décor. The staff are very welcoming, polite and willing to assist your culinary needs. 5 out of 5, thank you East the Water ❤️

Had several takeaways from here always been good

When you order £80 worth of food and each dish isn't even half full and the meat seems to be replaced entirely with vegetables. Genuinely the most pitiful Chinese from across the country I've ever had . I took a photo but nowhere to upload. Save your money and go somewhere else .

Were here on holiday and this was the closest chinese with a decent state rating . We ordered around 5 dishes between 2 adults and a toddler. 1 drink each . The total was 92 pounds. We eat chinese often in Surrey and have never paid 20 pounds for 1/4 duck. To make it worse. Only 2 dishes were edible. They were flavourless burnt, the chicken was rubbery and not fresh. I'd avoid at all costs.

Having just moved into the area, we obviously want to try local takeaways and restaurants and as this place offers delivery, we ordered a takeaway last night. We don't often choose Chinese food based on a few previous disappointing experiences but are so glad we did! We ordered a mixture of starters and mains to share between 3 - all tasted fresh and lovely with generous portion sizes. The friendly staff member who took our order promised delivery within the hour and our food arrived in under 40 minutes. We look forward to ordering again and trying out more of the dishes on offer.

Came across East of the Water restaurant while looking for a Chinese takeaway when we arrived at our holiday accommodation in Appledore. Five star food hygiene rating. We ordered a takeway of sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style, chicken curry, singapore noodles, chicken fried rice, chips & prawn crackers. It was one of the nicest Chinese take aways we've had - & we're quite particular :-)

It’s a good time for dinner in small groups very tasty not expensive and the food came fast. Highly recommend for eating in.

We've recently moved to the area from Hampshire. In comparison to our previous takeaway this was expensive, with tiny portions and items missing that we had ordered and paid for. They have collected the takeaway and refunded us but I was very disappointed and will not be using them again.

We ordered a takeaway from here last week and it was awful. So watery, it had no taste and literally only had a few pieces of beef in it and a few pieces of onion, there were no peas. It wasn’t cheap either. We will not be visiting here again. Very disappointed.

Terrible bland food, made me physically Ill. I was 10mins late picking up as I was stuck in traffic. I rang ahead to tell them but they charged me an extra £10 for the privilege! It was only a £30 order!! I was told this was because they had to keep it warm…. There has to be a better takeaway in the area. I wont be going back here if I’m staying in the area again…

Very expensive for very average food, the prawn toast tasted more of oil than prawn and the chefs sauce on the chow mien was a random bland white sauce

Nothing good about this place, overpriced, poor service and the food is what I would have thought Chinese should have tasted like in the 1970s. I ordered special chow main, this consisted of noodles, bean sprouts, low quality large lumps of chicken, tasteless roast pork and three small prawns, no other fresh veg and some odd white sauce dribbled on top ( maybe corn syrup?). We had deep fried freezer bag won tons with cheap jar sauce for a starter no garnish. Partner had crispy fried chicken (it was crispy, tick) with the same jar sauce and some raw onions. That lot and two cokes £48! Service was terrible, left us waiting 20mins after finishing, took the plates and did not ask if we wanted anything else or any more drinks. Had to go and pay at the counter. Another couple sat looking dissatisfied and also awaiting some attention from the staff, no excuse as there were only 7 people there on a Saturday night. Not a great experience and not one I will ever repeat.

When we arrived (earlier than the time given to collect), the food was sat waiting in an insulating bag to the side of the counter. When we got home, the food was barely warm and was cold after plating up. The portion sizes were very small for a high price. The food was poor quality. Chewy, undercooked chicken and raw vegetables. Will not be returning.

Been a while since I have visited and I'm informed there has been a change in ownership. For the prices charged portion sizes seemed small and it just all felt a little rushed; a sit down takeaway feeling if I can express it as such. Last actual takeaway from here was excellent, the in dining experience less so.

It was delivered 20 minutes before expected which was good however sadly the food was very disappointing dispite an hours wait and not at all worth the £16.50 I paid for it. I ordered chicken and sweetcorn soup which was nice and as I would expect (no added artificial sweeteners) When it came to the main (Singapore Veg Rice Noodles) The presentation was poor and dull. The brochli was cooked well with a bite however the noodles were a dull brown colour and there wasnt enough vegetables. Not much flavour. I only saw the odd tiny bit of pepper. I threw it in the bin after a few mouthfuls. Then I had a side order of spare ribs without bbq sause. Barely any meat, dry and very fatty. I wouldn't even feed this to my cat! Won't be ordering from here again unless significant change happens. Harringtons - believe in quality

Sorry food was dreadful with no presentation or anything positive to write up about. Over priced over cooked and dry with less than average service I think this should be just a take away and not a restaurant add on. This is my opinion it isn't to offend but I have always had a better Chinese compared.

Food was warm on delivery and the portion sizes were disgusting for the price you pay. Salt and pepper chips were dry, tasteless and looked like they were cooked over a week ago. Prawn toast looked more like chicken toast. Chicken curry was mainly onions. Worst Chinese I've ever had and will not be recommending to anyone. Paid over 60 quid and no complimentary prawn crackers. Each dish was not up to standards

We had a takeaway from here while on holiday in Westward Ho and it was absolutely delicious! I had Kung po prawns which were perfectly spiced and packed full with veg. I didn't think it was overly expensive and service was quick and friendly. Highly recommended.

We visited this Chinese restaurant as our usual westward ho holiday Chinese haunts have all become take away only. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. The service and the price. We ordered crispy duck to share. This was served off bone with 12 pancakes and there was ample. For mains crispy shredded chicken. Beef in pepper and black bean sauce. Veg chow mein. Chicken chop suey with just 2 egg fried rice. The chicken was moist. The beef tender. Everything that came out was very nice and there was ample rice for 2 with a 3rd person Sharing some.

We had a lovely tasty meal. Service was good too definitely use again.

Easy to park across the road we popped in here for a quick Chinese on the way home. Excellent food although its a bit on the pricey side compared to other Chinese Restaurants we have been to. All in all though its pretty good, and we would go back.

Been here a few times now, and tried quite a few different dishes, nothing special about any of them just average food, although a bit on the expensive side. Payment by card is possible, although on a couple of occasions they have preferred payment with cash. They offer a delivery service although I have never used it, and you can eat in as well, again I have not done this. In my opinion I prefer the Chinese takeaway close to this one, it does food to a good standard and cost is favourable although service is a little slow.

My brother and I were so impressed with the food here that we went back two evenings later. The staff were very pleasant, good menu and the food was excellent. The prices were also quite reasonable so, if you're in Bideford and fancy a Chinese, it won't be a wasted journey if you pop across the bridge to East The Water, just a short walk from the Royal Hotel. There's not a huge amount of indoor seating though so best to make a reservation.

How can your food turn up ten minutes earlier than expected and be stone cold!! Chips taste like they are out someone's bin.chicken is like rubber.my partners order was just rice and supposed to be Singapore fried rice.avoid this place like the plague woeful

I love the food here. Easily the best chinese restaurant or takeaway in Bideford. I've tried each of the places in Bideford and found the food and service here vastly superior. If you do give it a go try the chicken cantonese style. Its made using their own special sauce that I've not seen elsewhere so definitely worth a look if you like trying new things. Each time Been and ordered food for takeaway it came out quickly, including when. We had food delivered and it came in under 30 minutes (which was faster than they estimated on the phone). The service in the restaurant was also quick, warm and friendly. The place is well decorated and in good condition. The toilets requires you yo go outside to get to them but they were clean and well maintained. This place is a little more pricey than some in the area but its well worth it for the beautiful food and great service. You wont be disappointed!

Eventually got through on the phone. Was asked to hold on, fair enough they are busy. Waited 12 minutes like a lemon then the phone went dead. Have also tried to spell out our address 10 times and they still send the driver to the wrong house every time.. food is barely warm when it arrives. Bye 👋

Lovely food great atmosphere usual drinks menu like most Chinese not a great choice for us ale drinkers so I had a cider. I definitely go back tho food was worth it.

Best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to ,beautiful food no complaints

Found this chinese on TripAdvisor , was looking out of look mange to get a seat . Friendly staff , reasonable for money . Food service was fine . The food is alright the beef and blackbean had a storng tasting sauce if was not nice . The sweet and sour pork was ok but the pork was bitsize pork would of like the pork to be better size. We did enjoy the spear ribs .

Prawn toast isn't very prawny but the rest was nice .

What a beautiful restaurant. Lovely decor, fantastic food, wonderful service. We had a fantastic meal, just found this restaurant by chance by the river driving around, this restaurant was not found on google but found by chance but so glad we did. The meal was amazing 99% non mgn, recommend the brocolli in oyster sauce with noodles/rice. Service was exquisite. Wine was so nice. Highly recommend all round. Well done to all staff.

Myself and my husband have take away quite often and we dont need to think twice where to order from, everytime we come here the food is always hot, fast delivery and good food!

Just had the first and last meal at the East of the water, we had a table for 2 for a special occasion it was like sitting in a queue for a bus! People complaining about food, waiting times, late takeaways ,drunk people asking where's my food,it was awful. Be one or the other,a takeaway or a restaurant

Drove to the takeaway, ordered the food and only had to wait about 5 minutes, all items were very tasty,....and still hot when I arrived home ......15min away

Lovely service, holding the door open for the next customer made the day better, as I could know that after I left the Chinese Restaurant, she was happy and so was my household. XX

Very bad experience yet again for the third time!!! Absolutely no sympathy for missing food off our order and then returning to receive it only being given prawn crackers! 😆 ( Which are free in most places) Disappointed with the food in general and all members of staff weren't wearing ANY masks including the delivery drivers who were in and out. Definitely won't be returning there. All in all I drove 24 miles to receive missing dishes by the time I got to eat, it wasnt enjoyable. No apologies from the manager.. 😠 turned her back on me and walked off.?!? Rude rude rude. Would rate 0 stars but I have to put 1.

Great food and service, not salty, great portions

Decided on a Chinese takeaway for a change and we definitely made the right decision. We will be returning again soon.

Order arrived late but can forgive that, but can't forgive that the food was cold. None of the vegetables were cooked and considering there was one stip of bell pepper and a couple of pieces of onion it wouldn't have taken much effort. It was like the meat was cooked and the meagre vegetables were an after thought. If you're looking for a decent Chinese in Bideford look no further than Yumee's. Only ordered here due to Yumee's being closed on Wednesdays and I wish I'd not wasted my money. Shame, this place used to be good, maybe under new management now.

Before I visited I asked on Facebook which Chinese restaurant in Bideford people thought was the best. Overwhelming East of the Water came out tops.Glad to say it did not disappoint. Service was good, the food was tasty and delivered hot and the prices were reasonable.So if you want a good Chinese meal when you are in the Bideford area, spoil yourselves, you won't be disappointed.

Tried for the first time...what have I been missing !! Must mention quality of the beef and also the king prawns. Non greasy with few onions...just as I remembered meals in Hong Kong. I will be a regular here.

This is one of the best Chinese restaurants ever. All the food is delicious and the way they cook beef is exceptional. It really is ‘melt in the mouth’. Always a very high standard and friendly service.
