East Ocean in Ipswich

My favourite. Because they were busy New Years Eve and I got my food late. I got a fine from the carpark.

Food was not the usual standard very plain and boring was quite disappointed. The noodles were so dry and shrivelled up.

Good food and friendly service with reasonable prices.

So quick and efficient and super tasty

Out with a group of friends, we booked for 8-8.15 but didn’t get there until 8.30 due to being in the escape room and it ran a little over. At time of booking they explained they closed at 10pm which wasn’t a problem. I called ahead to book the set menu to give them a head start as we were running late. One friend arrived at 8ish and was promptly told they close at 9.45 staff were rude. Starters and main course were pretty much thrown at us all at once, it was cold and dreadful! They were talking in what I guess was Chinese to each other with attitude which made for an uncomfortable atmosphere. Won’t be returning and wouldn’t recommend!

First visit here. We ordered the set meal for 3. It was yummy. We added in the crispy duck and it was delicious. Service was brilliant. Staff were happy and friendly. We had a lovely meal and will definitely be back. Wish it opened at 5pm as we went pre-theatre and had to dash off before our coffee because we were friends catching up!

Really welcoming staff, menu was easy to order from. We had set menu and the amount of food we had was just right for us. No waste, really attentive staff and food came out quick and hot. Really recommend this place.

We ordered a takeaway in the evening,ended up with food poisoning before a flight, horrible experience...no words... trying to get in touch with them but no answer

Have been before and have had a fantastic spread and lovely food. Alike a lot of places they have made cut backs and unfortunately it shows. Staff were lovely. Hopefully it picks up again and we will go again but not in a hurry!

Lovely clean restaurant. Been many times over the years and yesty 7 of us came and had all manner of starters and main courses. Food was fresh and tasty and the sizzling yellow bean beef was a top treat for my good self! Will be back

Food is awful! Ordered take away! Pineapple came and there was dead ants in it! The salt and pepper ribs tasted like sugar! Chow mien had no taste at all! Maybe some ants in that instead would have given more flavour! Crispy beef waste tasteless and soggy! The Sweet and sour chicken balls were the only nice item we had no issue with! Can’t complain on prawn crackers with them being free but even then we’re yellow/brown! Solid and burnt

Ordered on Deliveroo and never received my food. Currently £60 out of pocket and the restaurant/Deliveroo have not come back to me.

Not great portion sizes, food itself was tasty enough but think is probably better value out there in Ipswich.

I hadn't been here in ten years; it used to be my go-to Chinese restaurant in Ipswich, but it has changed a lot since my last visit. Firstly, they've had a refit, and the new layout snd lighting is far less cosy. Secondly, there are now very few vegetarian dishes on offer. Previously, the chef was happy to adapt any dish to include tofu instead of the meat/seafood option - this is no longer possible. There are now around 3-5 vegetarian main dishes on the menu, and there is no tofu available at all. The food we had was very nice, however out starter of spring rolls was cold in the middle when it arrived. We asked for it to be warmed up, but it came back still cold in the middle. In short: great for meat and seafood eaters - scarce choice for veggies.

Polite, attentive staff and delicious starters and mains as part of a great value for money set menu. Would definitely recommend and we will be returning!

Awful food ended up giving me and family food poisoning avoid at all costs

We had another great meal at this restaurant - a Birthday celebration. The food is excellent with a great variety on offer. The staff are friendly and helpful.

Consistently excellent service and food at a reasonable price and always enjoyable.

Everytime we have visited we have enjoyed ourselves, they are very accomodating and hospitable, we go regularly and everytime has been great with food quickly for a very reasonable price.

Best Chinese take away. Little pricey compared to others but so worth it. Delivery is always really quick for us and the food is always delicious!!

The Best Chinese Restaurant in Ipswich In my opinion

Ordered via Uber eats. Ended up being 2 hours and no food. I rung and they said it’s on route, 20 mins later I rung again they said still on route and 10mins. I rung 10mins after that and spoke to a different person who said “the drivers driving slowly” … food never actually arrived. Uber eats refunded. No idea what was going on!

Appalled, will not be having a delivery from here again

TERRIBLE service, ordered for my birthday online to be delivered and waited for 1 hour and a half and called up, they said it was on the way to us, waited another 35 minutes and still no food. Called up again and they said they had no order from us. Ruined my birthday evening and gave us false hope that the food was coming for an hour.

Meat was tender and good quality, however, we feel cheated over the quantity of food Vs amount paid. £35 paid and portions were so small. We always have Chinese food leftover after an order but from here, we had nothing left over with this order, not even a prawn cracker! If I'm honest, food wasn't particularly flavoursome either. A bit below average in taste. Crackers were also stale and much of it was cold by the time it arrived. I think they have been so busy that it affected their service. Sadly won't be coming back here for delivery.

It took 2 hours to deliver the meal and when it arrived, one dish was crushed and had spilled into the bag, soaking everything else (photo provided). One item was wrong, it was meant to be 2 large spring rolls, but we received a bag of small ones. These were vile and had to be thrown away. The whole meal was cold and dishes weren't very nice in general. Very disappointing and overpriced. We paid £6.10 for the prawn toast and received the tiny strips in the photo. Massive waste of time and money!

Came here for a meal on Monday I found the lady owner behind the desk rude and unwelcoming. Food was 3/10 over priced and small portions for 21.50 per head. Sweet chilli sauce was watered down so much … also the food lacked real flavour.

Absolutely lovely evening. Fresh food. Quick service and friendly staff. Generous No portions too. No pressure to leave when we finished our meal. Perfect!

Starters good, main course disappointing, may have been our choice but not really edible, a sad imitation of their past (pre Covid) They did try to sort the food and adjusted the bill but left disappointed and unlikely to return.😥

Had a lovely dinner at this restaurant. We were pretty early, so the restaurant was quiet - but service was good. All of the dishes we ordered were really tasty and the set menu with flexibility of "any main dish" was really good. Recommended.

My family really fancied a chinese and our local one that we used to use has really gone down hill. Picked East Ocean as it had very good reviews. Was not disappointed! Ordered our food online for delivery, could select the time we wanted it delivered by. Very reasonable on price and food arrived on time, delivery driver very polite. The food was exceptional and good sized portions. Best chinese my family have eaten, very tasty! Will definitely order from them again.

We had a most enjoyable meal here last night, food is excellent very tasty. The staff are always polite and the service is fantastic. Your given prawn crackers and dip while waiting your main meal, a perfect meal in a perfect restaurant. 10/10. Top marks to this restaurant

Uncooked batter soggy hard chicken in the chicken balls. Salt and pepper chips were steamed and soggy and zero flavour Chicken chow mein stone cold Egg fried rice cold and hard Prawn on toast I mean a quality street would be bigger than these tiny pieces of 4 in a tub and no lemon to keep it fresh. Crispy chilli beef is absolutely disgusting no flavour and soggy Would of been better off with a meal deal from Iceland Never ever am going back management refuse to even listen to a complaint 36 quid wasted

What a brilliant take away/delivered meal we had tonight. Vast choice. Food was freshly cooked, tasted fresh. Good size portions. Delivered with a smile. What could be better?

Staff and food were excellent but the decor was nothing special. Good sanitising protection. It was noisy but that was due to two large tables of guests. We enjoyed our food and it was nice to have chocs with coffee plus additional coffee offered

Stayed overnight in Ipswich and wanted chinese for dinner. As a family of four adults we were seated and drinks order quickly taken. The restaurant does have a set meal deal however we just ordered what we wanted ... it worked out cheaper to do...

We love going to East Ocean! The food is great and the staff is amazing. We tried the Set Meal for 2 on this visit and was surprised. There was no doubt on the quality and taste but surprised about the portion. It was more than enough for 2 people. Started with Sesame Prawn Toast, Smoked Chicken, Vegetarian Spring Rolls, Satay Chicken on Skewers. The main comes with rice & chow mein and we got to choose 3 mains we chose lemon chicken, duck in bean sauce and stir fried mix sea food. We were stuffed by the end of dinner but thought of ordering both the pineapple and banana fritters to take home and enjoy. They are still implementing safe and distanced setting and clean and sanitize the tables after every use. Could not recommend this place enough. And we will keep coming back here too!

We normally go to 'My Chinese' as a family Chinese meal outing. They were not providing dine-in meals during December 21 so we chose to come to East Ocean. They provided a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and provided us with a great selection of food...

Lovely food and nice venu. Efficient and friendly service - only minor gripe was that the meal was somewhat 'rushed' as we only had the table for 2 hours. But we knew that when we made the booking - so not really complaining! . Overall would recommend.

Took over 90mins to arrive, called to ask where my order was, too 4 attempts to get through and when I did rhey were rude and just said the driver will be with you soon and hung up. Won't use again, will not recommend and will discourage anyone else from using them.

I have not had a bad meal from this place. I have been many times and have enjoyed everything that I have ordered. My favourite is the sweet chilli crispy chicken closely followed by the smoked chicken. An amazing restaurant excellent for a takeaway or a sit-in meal. The staff are very nice as well and always offer service with a smile!

I usually order what is on offer on deliveroo, however I have gone straight to East ocean the last 2 times as the food is exceptional. Full of flavour, generous portions, online delivery. Thoroughly recommend

The East Ocean is easy to find in Ipswich and well worth booking a table to enjoy an excellent Chinese meal, covid restrictions still in place and why not. Good menu options, quality food and good portions.

Absolutely rubbish service, ordered my food waited 2 hours for my order...over half an hour over the expected delivery time. Spent 20minutes trying to call the restaurant only to be told it will be another half an hour and our order hasn't even started to be cooked, told can't collect, can't cancel, can't get a refund... this is a joke Absolutely ruined our evening!!

Visited on 21.8.2021 to collect a take-away. Crispy beef, lemon chicken, sweet & sour chicken, egg fried rice and noodles. All excellent. Could see and taste the fresh ingredients. Very tasty and good value. Highly recommended

After two hours waiting for food ,arrived in very small portions for the price I paid and one intem missing. When call the restaurant they said ,they understand but they were to busy, they offered me the refund for missing intem. If you too busy should accept so many orders and reduce the portions i.

Lovely food. Very well set up for social distancing, staff wear masks there is a hand sanitizer on every table and you have your temperature taken when you go in. Very impressed.

In short worst Chinese in ipswich and surrounding area. In length, Food was blaned, Spring rolls weren't cooked inside. Salt and peper chicken was without either ingredient, chicken wasn't crisp at all was basically soggy batter on barely cooked chicken. Complained about the food and was told "Theirs plenty of other Chinese restaurants to choose from if I didn't like thiers!." Avoid at all cost.

First meal out after lock down. Staff were attentive and safety conscious. Highly recommended when in Ipswich.

went recently as couple nice atmosphere and service,food was really good the lamb with peppers and black bean sauce was our favourite,followed by the belly pork.will definately go back again.

Our second visit to this small establishment and this was the best. We use it as a pre show dining option when visiting nearby Regent Theatre and it is well situated for this purpose. We booked via their website and were greeted enthusiastically on arrival. The service was superb from start to finish and the food is extremely good. Highly recommended.
