What an amazing find. A lovely hidden gem of an olde worlde pub tucked away in a beautiful secluded village. The food was delicious and the portions humongous. The pies were family sized, home made and impossible to eat all of it. Everything was served fresh, hot and by really helpful and accommodating staff. If I could give 8 stars, I would. The ales were good and the atmosphere very inviting. I booked a for a party of six, 1 in a wheelchair and two dogs. Everyone enjoyed the experience immensely. 👌

Unbelievably rude landlord. Food was dreadful. As customers with genuine reasons to complain the last response you expect to receive is abuse. Check the reviews before considering a visit. Anyone who gives a derogatory review receives disgusting insults. Utterly unacceptable behaviour 😡

I had Chilli which was very good. However my wife had Swordfish which was unlike any other Swordfish steak we have had before. Its texture was spongy and the accompanying lettuce was covered in a dressing which had far too much vinegar, the potatoes were fine. On reflection we should have sent the meal back, this experience has made us decide to give feedback at the time of the meal and send poor food back.

Always wanted to try this place. Have had lots of recommendations to do so. Unfortunately my husband was told in a curt tone by staff member at bar, we couldn’t order food as there was a table of twelve due. Second staff member was more polite but again said they can’t accommodate us for a sandwich as have table of twelve due. Very poor experience

Such a shame coming here.. as a head chef I expect a meal to reflect menu and price. I hate to give a bad review as I know how this affects a business. My burger advertised as a homemade burger was overpriced but i was OK to pay for a decent burger like I make myself. I was so sad to see a really poor quality burger doubled up. Meal was presented nicely though. I didn't ask for a refund but did approach the chef to ask what was going on. First I got lies and then just a shrug of the shoulders. I expect as a chef myself to appease customers with a genuine complaint. Nothing.. so we left..me and my girl on her 30th birthday feeling sad that someone just have up on being a chef. Step up or step off.

We had a really lovely evening in this pub. It's very cosy and charming countryside pub. It's a very pretty location in a small village. There are two parts to the pub - a cosy old bar area and a dining room area. Dogs are only allowed in the bar area so we ate there. It's the same food menu on both areas. The food was delicious and quick. Very much recommend this pub.

The pub is located in Hendon village which is mostly own by the local land owner. Great place to visit. As stated old style pub just two room and some outside seating. Old wooden floors an seating nothing flash but really quaint. Nice selection of drinks. Good variety of nice pub type meals on the menu, with a selection of smaller plates for snacks. Service great throughout all we saw was was one lady serving and one who I think was the chef. Both of them very nice and friendly. The food we had was a battered fish and chips, a ploughman’s which had a good assortment of nice ham, cheese etc. a plaice with new potatoes and mash samphire and crayfish and prawn salad with a rosemary sauce. All meals very tasty and well presented. Deserts of a chocolate cheese cake the was a large slice and a cream brûlée in a cup. See pic to give a better impression very good value for money. Will have to make a return visit.

As I live locally, I often visit the village of Heydon and the pub as it’s one of my elderly mothers favourite places to visit. Yesterday we visited the Earle Arms for lunch. I am autistic and my mother is recovering from a stroke that she suffered in December of 2022. We choose a table outside as it was a beautiful day and quieter for both me and my mum. We were greeted by friendly staff who went out of their way to make our visit special. My mother had a chicken curry and I the burger. Both dishes were delicious and great value. The selection of real ales was excellent and I couldn’t fault a single thing. The burger (two patties) and fries with onion rings and coleslaw were clearly made on the premises. Mum’s curry was served with light fluffy rice naan bread and mango Chutney. The curry itself was made with wonderfully tender chicken and a delicious sauce. The chef who again, was friendly and helpful came out despite being very busy, and took the time to speak to mum and brought out a takeaway box for the food my mother couldn’t eat as she was full with a lovely message on the lid. The locals at the pub were friendly and a group of cyclists staying nearby kindly let me order a second round of drinks before them as there group was larger in numbers than me and my mum. I can’t wait to come back particularly for Sunday lunch as the reviews on here are very positive. Thank you for a wonderful experience and for going the extra mile it’s much appreciated.

Situated in the picturesque village of Heydon lies the Earle Arms. Which is a quintessential village pub. It has remained unchanged since the 16th century and it's all the better for it as well. The pub has been used in various films and TV dramas in it's time. The bar is small but perfectly formed and is lit by candles. It is also dog friendly but, you need to tell them in advance. Dinner is served 4 nights a week and lunch 5 days a week. I didn't get to try the food but what I saw looked amazing. Daily fresh sea food, steaks, The food is seasonal so will change accordingly. They have 4 incredibly well kept beers on from two Norfolk breweries and 5 scrumpy from the barrel. Plus, their own pilsner and national beers on draft. Sitting outside is a must in the summer, you can watch and hear both swallows and swifts diving over the green. Definitely well worth a visit if you're in Norfolk.

We have visited this pub many times over the past few years and the location is beautiful, the building just as a pub should be, the bar staff very welcoming and the food is excellent. We have had a couple of small gripes with the selection of green vegetables being a handful of peas and one broccoli floret and the meringue being left out of banoffee Eton Mess. However, nothing to put us off going there until I read the manager's comments to negative reviews on this site. Not believing they could be genuine I contacted him via the pub website and messenger but no reply. When I put the question on their facebook page I had my access blocked. So unnecessary and disappointing. I wait with trepidation for a response to this review, if any, but don't think it could be more insulting that the others I have read. I do hope we don't get barred as my husband will be furious. He loves their food and recommended is the crab salad, frittata and chilli. It is a pity that those who have already received offensive responses are unable to respond but tripadvisor does not allow it. Enjoy your visit (you will) but be prepared for an intelligent, well composed but truly insulting response if you post a negative review.

In a beautiful setting. Food OK. Service polite. When it comes down to allergies, they seem to cater for GF, 1 dish for vegans. They wanted to be willing with DF intolerances, but this meant they took things off the plate, i.e., garlic bread or a cream sauce, no thought to substitute.

Not as good as it could have been. The welcome was warm from some of the team but a bit odd from others. But mostly the kitchen didn't adapt well to allergy or food intolerance. The idea of substitution was not on the radar... rather dish elements were just dropped off which left dishes bland and dry. P.S. the owner decided we were just muppets and our requests not real... Of course the owners response rather proves the point...

Atmospheric, homely old pub with original fixtures and fittings and rather a lot of stuffed birds and pictures of racehorses - which means the ladies' loo with its sparkly, iridescent white walls comes as something of a shock. I suspect it's something of a practical joke on the part of the landlords! Great big appetising plates of Sunday dinner - far too splendid to be diminished by calling them simply 'lunch'.

The Earle Arms was recommended to us by a local friend, they 'warned' us not to look for a menu on line because they don't do that, but that we wouldn't be disappointed. So booked an early evening midweek table. The dining room is small and intimate. There was a large menu and a couple of specials to chose from, I chose the steak and ale pie, it came in a metal dish twice as big as I was expecting withe a bowl full with mashed potato, green beans and peas. The gravy in the pie was as good, if not better, than any I have tasted, my wife chose a fish dish which was also very generous and tasted wonderful. We had intended to have a dessert but no room for that! Great friendly service too, and at very reasonable prices. We will definitely be back.
