Earl Spencer in Wandsworth

In the past month this pub has had a complete makeover. Gone are the remnants of the glory days (2010s) when good beer and excellent food was served in traditional pub surroundings. Since then a refurb completely spoilt the cosy atmosphere and the food went downhill to merely standard. It has now been reincarnated as a darker more noisy bar with TV screens throughout. Very little atmosphere and no longer a warm welcome, indeed no welcome at all the two times I have visited. Seating is not well thought through - very wide tables with confortable banquette seating on one side then on the other small stools at a distance where conversations competing with the music are difficult, though there are some booths. Can't comment on the food, though I wonder if that is not a priority. I guess they are aiming at a younger market who will stand around watching sport rather than the older loyal and local drinkers and diners . If this is the case then they might struggle to compete with the Earlsfield bars. The Gardeners next door is probably a safer bet all round.

Lovely staff really welcoming. Very pleasant food and arrived hot and tasty.

Friendly local pub, food was great. Kids friendly.

The 3 stars is because the event was a christening but there were no facilities at all for children, no toys, no separate area for them to run around and play. So of course they did where the food and drinks were served so in the upstairs private room. The sound was deafening. We adults tried to make the best of it. The staff were great but not much they could do to improve things. Surely management should give the needs of those attending events more consideration by trying to facilitate them. ********************* Update: The owner has accepted my review in the spirit it was intended and have said they will take note for future events. I'm very happy with their positive response.

Este no es el bar gastronómico que solía ser. El asado dominical era como una cena fría de escuela. Patatas sin cocer y totalmente sin sabor. El pudín de toffee pegajoso era igualmente decepcionante, frío, robusto y sin sabor. Totalmente decepcionante. Lo único bueno era que era fácil conseguir una mesa, ahora sabemos por qué.

Lovely local pub with amazing hot fresh chips, just what you need on a cold wet Friday.

La lasaña era horrible. Totalmente cocinado. La salsa estaba acuosa. Más bien una extraña sopa de lasaña. Ribeye sabía como si se hubiera quedado afuera al sol por un tiempo. Tuve que pagar por adelantado, así que supongo que así es como manejan servir mala comida.

Anthony me atendió y la atención al detalle fue increíble. El pub es fresco y la comida, bebida y servicio es de primera clase. Recomendaría el Earl Spencer a todos mis amigos. Sin duda volveré y visitaré este negocio centrado en el cliente de nuevo.

A very nice pub, plenty of tables, outdoor space and a few screens to watch sport on. Just had a drink but the menu looked good and reasonably priced.

Food great, good atmosphere, staff very friendly and helpful

This used to be my local many years ago when I lived in the area. I went back for a private party, and the pub was much nicer now than it was back then.

I’ve become a regular at the Earl Spencer any time I come to the area. Bar staff are always friendly and accommodating and we’ve never been let down when it comes to the food and drinks. Thoroughly recommend

Please, give your team some training. I came here to have some nibbles with my husband (the food is excellent), and asked for a "Tropical Twist"; the bartender first approach was: "it is that like a drink or something to eat"... both of them were looking at each other very confused and, to make their life easier, I just ordered another drink. This is not a staff issue, this is absolutely about management and training. Please, please, please show your staff the menu so they will be able to make a better experience for your customers.

We went to The Earl Spencer for their Sunday roast as we have had it before . It was also Easter Sunday and the staff had made a great effort to dress up and decorate the pub with traditional Easter themes ,a egg hunt and colouring . The roast was excellent and for no extra price you can have more roasties and Yorkshire pudding. A great selection of drinks and real ales and every pint of real ale you have gets a stamp and have 6 pints, not all at once , and the next is free . A lovely inviting atmosphere too.

I cannot fault this pub, the food was amazing and quick and the service was really good too. Staff are so polite and helpful. Thank you so much for my Mother’s Day gift 🙌🏻

We recently held a birthday celebration for my brother in the event space at Earl Spencer. The whole process of organising and managing the event went so smoothly, the service was first class and nothing was too much trouble. Anthony, the manager is exceptional and he listed to every request with patience and respect. We all had a wonderful time!!! Thank you.

We went for dinner on Sunday and the food has really gone down since the last time we went. The food quality is not as good and the helpings now are very small indeed. As for the crackling it was so tiny it was unreal. Looks like we need to find somewhere else to go out for Sunday dinner

Met some friends here for after Christmas drinks. Lovely pub. The place has a great atmosphere and not overly expensive. Great little pub for the local business's and local community, food is good too plus they have a heated beer garden too, so pop and enjoy a great little pub.

Came here for a wonderful Sunday meal with my girlfriend. The man who served us Ramone was wonderful and couldn't do enough for us. The food was absolutely delicious and we will certainly be back as I live locally

We hadn’t been here since soon after Covid. It probably was our favourite local before Covid but went severely downhill after that. Whilst we had been told/seen it had been refreshed in Aug 22, we had been reluctant to try it again and our expectations were not high before today. Food was very good and the manager Anthony attentive and accommodating. I will be back before both with friends for an evening or Sunday lunch

Visited here and was pleasantly surprised. Despite being busy the service I received was friendly and helpful. I only had a couple of drinks in this visit but will be returning with my partner to sample some of the items on the menu as the food looked good and it is reasonably priced.

Great pub, lovely pint, warm atmosphere and friendly staff, we only meant to meet here, and ended up staying for the night.

Really come into its own after the change of management, it's become a regular for my family and I to come and have a tasty roast and watch the football on a Sunday.

Very friendly local pub, was a little busy at the time but the staff were still very friendly and helpful. We were initially unsure how to order but a member of staff quickly helped us. The food was good for a pub setting and they have a large range of draught beers.

A great pub with a great location, and reasonably priced drinks. Would be a five star review if it weren't for a specific incident that the bar staff did nothing about. I've been there a few times, and every time I go there is someone playing music, or taking calls on loudspeaker, or playing social media on their phone on loudspeaker. If the the staff asked those responsible to turn their volume down, this would be an easy fix. Inconsiderate people ruin the atmosphere for everyone, and it should be the responsibility of the staff to apply these rules to improve the atmosphere and experience for all of their customers. If the staff start applying this, it will improve the atmosphere of the pub and make everyone's experience better.

Haven't been in a few years and it looks to have been taken over by a new company. It now has sky sports (which my husband loved) and a less individual food menu but the service and the atmosphere have remained as good as ever.

Had Sunday roast on several occasions, which is really good, however, last Sunday I I ordered lamb for a change. I was very disappointed all round the lamb was full of fat and grizzle. The cabbage was undercooked very stringy, and tasteless, I was very disappointed even the service was very poor.

Friendly welcoming pub not too far from Southfields. The food is a fairly standard pub menu but everything we had was very good. As an extra plus they are extremely dog friendly with treats and water bowls etc

Fantastic Sunday roast by Emil and the team - veg was perfectly cooked and the beef to a lovely medium rare. Lovely atmosphere and nothing was a problem at all. Very well priced too! Definitely worth a trip.
