Small “So Britsh” stop on our long road in England. Real English pub well in its juice, but the service is impeccable! Don't be fooled by appearances! Pretty typical English house, large and clean rooms. Rather quiet despite the pub terrace in the evening. Center of Cambridge 10 minutes walk. As in all pubs, wide choice of beer, more limited catering. Note the free private parking!

Horrible. The rooms are so hot and dated, it is impossibleto sleep, even with the not hot weather outside. The host for breakfast was so rude and not helpful at all. Breakfast( salmon on toast) was disgusting. Please, don't waste your money!

Convenient location for Cambridge station,20 min walk in to central Cambridge. Rooms were simple but clean. Bar staff were super friendly and there were some tables outside to catch some evening sun for a drink Travelled with bikes and were able to bring them in to a room which is always a plus.

Went here a couple of times as a stop off for drinks on the way into the city centre. Lovely and quiet. Had Sunday lunch which was spot on, absolutely gorgeous. We made sure we complimented the chef.

We stayed for two nights. The bed was comfortable and shower good. The cups in the room were dirty and had to wash them before use. We had one lunch there (chicken and leek pie - casserole with a pastry lid). It was mediocre and unappetising. Hence the reason we decided against paying for and trying their breakfast. Unfortunately, this venue caters to horse racing and drinking enthusiasts. So much so it carries on 24/7. Could not seriously recommend.

We had an excellent idea to choose this establishment about twenty minutes walk from the center with free parking. Our large room and bathroom were clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly. We enjoyed the traditional pub food. And all this for a super competitive price compared to those in this city. We can only recommend it!!!

Crowdy and noisy as it can get. Great premises, dog friendly but few options for drinks. Service is superb and premises are a real pub house.

Music on too loud to hear others speak.

Pub Review: Ample free parking which is massive in such a central location. Don't be fooled by the basic appearance of the interior because the door, beer and service are exceptional. You will be blown away, I guarantee it.

Always our go to place before a gig at The Junction

Food - usual pub fare, not always the quickest service, especially when busy. Open for breakfast, which is a positive. Beer - A few cask ales and lagers on tap. A decent pour of Guinness Located close to the station

Great location, just a few minutes from the station. Friendly, helpful staff. And though close to a main thoroughfare, and above a pub, our room was quiet.

Decent pub with nice rooms but cheaper than city centre but easily accessible

So I had stayed at the Earl on the 16th of this month,- reached Cambridge late evening and was almost lost , but then the person who picked up the phone, went out of their way to guide me on my route towards Earl, coordinating with me over the phone as well as we were using the Map. That was not all. He ensured I feel comfortable , by taking my dinner order and delivering it to my room, as he knew I was physically and mentally fatigued, Me being the service industry tpp know the value of customer Enhancement. I am very delighted to state his name is 'RIGUEL' You are amazing and Earl should be very proud to have you as their hospitality staff

The pub having only one draught ale on tap disappointed me a tad. It was a below average Green King IPA too to make things worse. Bar staff were efficient and helpful. The place had a good atmosphere as usual.

It's rare to find a pub with no redeeming features whatsoever (they sell beer after all), but this is one of them.

Nipped in for some late lunch before our train back home from Cambridge. Lady we met night before said it was a nice little pub with good rooms and decent food. OK pub just a bit crowded inside with the tables so near to each other, there was tables outside the back aswell you can use, but we were inside and most in there at the time were watching football ⚽️. Food was ok, only had Jacket spud each, friends cheese on hers was melted completely so think to be honest it had been put in the microwave, was OK thou, filled a gap and was reasonably price. Would go again if we were in the area again.

Always been one of Cambridges good public houses. Lovely food. Great staff. Covered outside area. Little outside bar. Very welcoming . Popular place to stay or pop in for a good pint before your day/night out train ride home.

Such a lovely pub, but why is the Guinness so bad. It’s astonishingly bad. And bear in mind it’s an Irish pub. Do NOT go there if you’re assuming as an Irish pub the Guinness will be good. It’s dreadful

We had a wedding reception here and they were fantastic, lovely people who put on a great little buffet in the function room. Drink prices were reasonable, and the amount of food we got for the price per head was brilliant. We had about 20 people there and the buffet table was stocked up for a long while, plenty of room for more people too. Nice place overall.

A simple but good full English breakfast. Ideal way to start a day out.

Very large double room with an en-suite that had an amazing shower. The bed was huge and really comfy. Everything was clean, warm and well presented. Staff were friendly and helpful. £7.50 for a delicious vegetarian cooked breakfast and unlimited coffee. Free parking and lots of outside seating. Great value and ideally situated for The Junction and Cambridge Leisure Park. Would definitely recommend The Earl of Derby to anyone wanting to stay in Cambridge.

I wouldn't recommend this place for lunch/dinner. The breakfasts looked nice. We were a table of 5 adults, and all our food came out at different times. We wanted to enjoy a meal together but ended up watching 1 person eat. Then mine came out and I finished before the other 3 came out. A table that came in after started being served dishes we were waiting for. The quality of the ingredients is of a low standard. For example, small packaged breaded chicken burgers, basic mac and cheese, small portions for the price. Charged for soda water, which is a pet hate of mine. The location is good, right next to the train station. They do private parties and have music on sometimes. Big tvs, perfect for sports. I'd visit for drinks but not for a meal with family or friends.

Went to the pub for Sunday roast and it was terrible! Worst meal I’ve ever had. Left all of it in the plate. It’s a shame because could be a nice pub.

Stayed Sunday night...room was so warm and toasty on the coldest winter night so far this year! Room and ensuite spotless. Super king size bed was so comfy. Staff were very very friendly. We will definitely return

Considering the very reasonable price it costs to stay at the Earl of Derby, it's very good value. The position of this property is also great. Just a few minutes walk from the railway station, and numerous coffee bars and fast food restaurants, it's an ideal location. Also just a short walk to the leisure park with it's good selection of eateries and The Junction live music venue. The pub itself offers a warm welcome and a good menu choice. It is a fair distance from the actual city centre, but for the less active or fit person, there is the option to catch a bus from the main transport hub at the railway station.

excellent food and drinks,near Travelodge hotel One important feature of this hotel for us was the proximity to the train station.It is a 5 minute walk. We were surprised the food was very good for a pub with many fishes to choose.from. We did not stay here as I did not know it was also a hotel..we will next time

Lovely little hotel that has the ambiance of being in a small town (nice and cosy) while actually being 10min away walking distance from the centre of Cambridge! We went in late June 2021 so football was on too. Rooms are tucked in so you don’t hear cars from the main road, whereas the pub downstairs overlooks that main road. Don’t expect 4 or 5 star room but for the price and location it is absolute value for money! The bed was big and the room clean; there was a flat tv and all classic amenities for a standard double bed room. The food in the pub was good quality for the price we paid and the cooked breakfast was also of good standard. Would recommend to anyone who wants to visit Cambridge and stay in a traditional English pub/hotel.

Good pint of Guinness and a great location for a pre/post gig pint if you’re using The Junction, or if you’re going to the railway station. Good atmosphere nice decor. They have bedrooms rooms too. Staff were really friendly & helpful and asked if we had any suggestions for the playlist on their jukebox. Maybe I was they only one they asked but it was great to hear The Clash, Damned and 999 in a modern pub (don’t let that put you off I won’t be there when you are!) 😂

Only came here for food. But based on the food alone I won't return. Place is friendly enough. And had a relaxed atmosphere. But food was poor. Only 2 beef dinners left at 1.35pm , so went for burgers. Not very nice.

A really nice place to stay if you're visiting Cambridge, not too far from the M Way or the City Centre. Very comfortable beds, great staff.

Very friendly staff, we stayed on the 6th of august as we were visiting to go to the Thai festival with our friends who also booked into this place. Our room didn’t have a fan & it was a very warm weekend so I went down to the bar to ask if there was 1 spare, bless her the barmaid gave me hers from behind the bar! We were a little concerned about noise as our room was above the bar at the front of the property… but we didn’t hear a thing & it was the best night sleep I’d had in days! The bed was absolutely massive & extremely comfy, very clean & I can’t fault our stay in any way. The 4 of us had a full English breakfast, which was gorgeous. If we are looking for somewhere to stay when we next come to Cambridge I’ll definitely be booking here again. Great price, fantastic staff & lovely accommodation. We’ll be back!!

Parking is free and extremely easy/convenient. Pub has great breakfast. Price is good - its a simple comfortable room in a good location.

Room for three was pretty nice, though the bathroom door was slightly ajar and couldn’t be fully closed. Breakfast was decently priced with the option to have your coffee refilled for free. Overall nice location, nice stay.

Large room with king size bed !! For a pub next to the main road it's very quiet place ! The landlord let me leave my car in car park a couple hours before the check in, nice touch !!Good food too ! Nice pub and great staff !

A nice place to go after work for a drink

A due passi dal centro e con fermate autobus a portata di mano. Abbiamo soggiornato due notti e fatto una colazione british. In zona ci sono anche altri ristoranti e posti carini per fare colazione o pranzare/cenare. Personale disponibile (c’era anche Angelo, un ragazzo italiano davvero simpatico), avevamo un impegno in città e ci hanno lasciato tenere le valigie in corridoio fuori dalla stanza dopo il check-out. Stanza non particolarmente pulita e fornita, ma nella media degli alloggi inglesi. Ci tornerei.

Room was spacious and facilities good for the price, though lights didn't work properly, but after pub closed a group of people stayed outside loudly talking until well gone 1am. Having windows closed didn't work and the room was so hot it was impossible to sleep in with shut windows anyway. I believe it may have been staff as again pub would have been closed to guests. Really inconsiderate either way. This was was a Tuesday not a Friday or Saturday night as well, so rating was primarily low due to poor sleep.

Rude and vulgar staff, below average food and dirty tables and cutlery. There are much better places closer to Cambridge train station with great beer and food. Stay as far as you can!

Nette locatie, propere basic kamer met goede bedden. Afgesloten parking door middel van slagboom. Gezellige Pub met heerlijke maaltijden (bestellen kan tot 21u). Heerlijk ontbijt tegen een eerlijke prijs. Bij gesloten ramen heeft men totaal geen last van omgevingsgeluiden, met de ramen open is de straat hoorbaar maar valt het heel goed mee

Visiting Caimbridge for the first time and we came across The Earl of Derby Pub. Wow what a find. £6.95 for a good sized full English breakfast which included, 2 rounds of toast, 2 large thick rashers of bacon, 2 large sausages, 1 fried egg, 1 hash brown, mushrooms, beans and a grilled fresh tomato.. It also included unlimited tea and coffee. There were extras for 80p and I added black pudding. All the food was excellent quality and well cooked and there was not a drop of grease on the plate. Everyrhing arrived to us piping hot and was very tasty. A special mention must go to Lorraine for accommodating my weird tea request.  She made us feel very welcome like we were in a 5 star hotel even though it was very busy, nothing was too much trouble for her She is an absolute asset to the venue. If we are lucky enough to come back to Caimbridge we will certainly be popping back for some great food and 5 star service. Highly recommended.

We didn't stay here so can't comment on the rooms. The service was great, the food was great. The chef didn't read what the order said so we did have to send the meals back. It was swiftly resolved. 😊 The staff are friendly and helpful 😊

Lovely place. Food is delicious and service impeccable.

Nice big room and very good for the price. Only problems we had is that we had no wifi all weekend we stayed as the wifi doesn’t stretch to the rooms that aren’t near the pub, so make sure to have mobile data readily available. Also a few issues with the room - light not working, door knob broken from the inside so had to spend a few minutes trying to open the door, and remote control not working. Other than that, the staff were very friendly and the room was large with three comfy beds and the place was quiet at night and very comfortable for us. Free car park too which is always great. Would come again!

Stayed for one night, had a comfortable night's sleep however our room was overlooking the road so was a little noisy when going to bed at approx 10pm, but I stoll managed to get to sleep fine. There was no iron on site so please take your own if needed. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant from arrival in the evening to leaving the next evening. Full breakfast was good I spent most of the day working in the pub, it was quiet enough for most of the day to get on with work and take calls. It's a 5-minute walk to the station (if that) and a 15-20 minute walk into the city centre.

My mum and husband stayed for her husbands birthday as a surprise this weekend. The room was disgusting, the sheets were marked and had black hair on, stains on the towels, lampshades broken and dirty, nets hanging hanging off, tv didn’t work and was reported and staff never came to fix when they said they would. The hallway the light didn’t work so was dark and it smelt of cigarette smoke. Staff rude . Went for breakfast all tables sticky and food certainly isn’t as advertised neither are the rooms, man on table next to them complained to staff his sausages were still frozen. Had to pay in cash as card machine wasn’t working and they couldn’t provide a receipt. Will never return.

Fantastic food great value for money

Probably the saddest burger I've had in the last decade. Only burger and bread, and just a little bit of lettuce. Way more bread than burger, so be ready to eat bread on its own. I asked to the waiter if that was it, and they told me I should have asked for extras. However said extras weren't offered at the time of purchase. I don't know, maybe it's my ignorance. Maybe "Derby burger" commonly means "Sad burger" and I didn't know. The service was nice, hence the second star.

Perfectly presentable pub hotel. Rooms are large & warm (in January when we visited at 4°C outdoors) & surprisingly quiet, especially given that the busy main road isn't far away. Car park for residents behind a barrier. Bed much more comfortable than it first appears.

Not happy with the atmosphere. Loud sports are always on TV even when nobody is watching. Food quality is low. Staff seem super annoyed and looking like someone has forced them to work there.

I didn't stay in the hotel, just went to pub for dinner. Pub looks nice and welcoming from the outside. Unfortunately food was awful. I've ordered a burger and I was served with a bread roll and package ready meat. No sauces, no vegetables. Just dry overcooked meat with bread. It was served with cold fries and coleslaw. I'm not a Karen, I don't normally write bad comments but I also haven't had so bad food for a long time. Waitresses didn't even asked how the meal was, I think because she didn't want to hear people's complaints.

Everytime I go back to Cambridge I try to come here. The customer service it's good. It's a quiet place next to the station to have breakfast. The croissant filled with cheese was amazing.

Maybe they were having an off day. Poor beer selection unless you're a lager fan. Had pint of Yardbird and left half. Witnessed one bloke sending his food back and generally didn't enjoy the experience. Like I say benefit of the doubt and let's put it down to experience. Shame really, it used to be so good.

Stopped for a lunchtime pint and bite to eat. Good Greene King IPA and awesome BLT with a massive amount of chips and salad, value for money and service was friendly, recommended if ever in the area
