Dunya Restaurant Turkish Cuisine in Plymouth

First time in my life I was almost kicked out by staff who have nothing in common in terms of knowledge and restaurant culture. I have been working as a hotel manager for 36 years and I visit this restaurant because the cuisine is close to my culture and religion, but unfortunately I can only say may Allah help the owners.

It’s very clear how much attention has been paid to the smallest details. The reception was elegant and polite, the staff were very professional and their welcoming smiles made a great impression, and the food tasted truly amazing.

It serves very delicious food. I highly recommend trying it. The way it is served is wonderful and gives a wonderful view to start eating. The staff are nice and joking. It is a wonderful restaurant.keep up 🔥

Our recent experience at Dunya was disappointing due to the poor service we received. The server barely acknowledged us for the first 15 minutes of our wait. The staff were very unprofessional and unfriendly. Their attitude and facial expressions was (disgusting) moreover speaking their language after we asked for a wrong drink was very uncomfortable. The food itself was good, but the poor service significantly detracted from the overall experience. We hope that the restaurant will take these concerns into account and work to improve its service. The restaurant could benefit from having more staff trained on customer service.Paying the bill was also a drama, nevertheless this is probably not entirely the fault of the restaurant.

this is the cleanest restaurant i’ve ever been in, all the staff are constantly wiping and cleaning everything, the toilets were immaculate. the starters were amazing and the mains were good too. all the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, really enjoyed it here 😁😁

Went for lunch today but this is my favourite and only the Turkish restaurant in Plymouth food was freshly cooked and tasted so good, just like living in Turkey again. I also received amazing service by lovely Young lady and friendly Lunch time specials reasonable prices and fab place This is better than turkish restaurant I went to in London so much better 100% recommended 👌

The food was so good. We were served by Shaimaa; she was so kind and lovely, with a stunning smile. Since we were fasting, we received some starters and dessert on the house, which I think is very generous of them. The atmosphere was nice and welcoming. I would definitely recommend it.👌🏻

I absolutely loved my experience in Dunya. The atmosphere, the music, the service, the food were amazing! Truly, the best restaurant in Plymouth. We had Lamb chops and chicken breast, the portions were big and the food was delicious! We had Kunefe for desert, it was something we never tried before and it was very sweet and delicious! The staff were really friendly, welcoming and helpful. Will definitely come back!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at this amazing restaurant, and I have to say, it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment I walked in, the service was exceptional. A special shoutout to Shaimaa, who was incredibly warm, helpful, and attentive throughout our meal. She truly made the experience even more enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious every dish was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. I could tell the chefs put a lot of care into their creations. I had Alinazik with aubergine and lamb meat. Food was very fatty, lamb was not very well marinated and it had very intense lamb flavour.

I booked a table for 10 last Friday. The ambiance was great as soon as we walked in. The service and food were excellent. I would like to thank the staff for making our evening special. Will definitely return

Fabulous food outstanding service Could not fault anything

I had my birthday dinner here, I was treated sooo well by the staffs. They made me so happy. Played a birthday song for me and really made the night special. They treated i and my friends with somuch love and respect. All staffs were so warm and welcoming. They all had a huge smile on their faces and made light jokes and compliments to make us feel comfortable. The food was soooo good, the beef and lamb well cooked and spiced! This is one of the best meal I have had yet. It reminded me somuch of home. The platter for four people should actually be for 10 persons as it was sooo huge that we couldn’t easily finish it even when we were 7 persons. The cocktails are soooo good, actually one of the best I have had in Plymouth. Their food prices was also quite affordable. If you are looking for a place closer to home. Then Dunya should be your pick!! I rate and recommend this restaurant a 1,000 time. Thank you somuch Dunya for making my 30th birthday the best!!!

Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by a courteous young lady who graciously offered us a choice of seating. The restaurant exuded a pleasant ambiance, with a few diners already enjoying their meals, accompanied by soothing Turkish music playing in the background. The team demonstrated exceptional efficiency and professionalism throughout our visit. For those who appreciate high-quality meat dishes, this restaurant is an excellent choice. The dish in the accompanying image speaks for itself beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. I would like to offer a suggestion for the management’s consideration: it may be beneficial for staff members to wear disposable gloves when clearing tables after use to uphold the highest hygiene standards. This is purely a recommendation and not a criticism. Overall, I had a fantastic experience and genuinely look forward to returning. A heartfelt thank you to Dunya Restaurant and its dedicated staff for their outstanding service.

Good food and price, lamb shish kebab was tasty and the meat very lean and good quality. Comfortable place to sit in and relax with various sized sitting areas (alone, 2 persons or more)

Great food but not 10/10 to be honest, the price and quality might not be matched. For example, we ordered some bread and that was £4.60 we could get 5-6 breads to that price. To make your costumers happy either the bread should be free or let’s say £0.50.

The food was great and service also. The atmosphere was OK but the price not so much. 22 quid a plate for most items for what amounts to pretty basic grub. Nothing bad about the quality but just thought the price was a bit high for what was served. It'll probably be a while before I revisit

Excellent meal and exceptional service. We got stuck in rush hour traffic making us 25 minutes late for our reservation, they held the table and managed to still get us fed in time for the Theatre. We will definitely be back.

Visited here several times, the food is always amazing I've enjoyed getting various dishes ofter with advice from the staff, highly recommend a visit.

After walking by this place many times, we decided to go there on a Saturday evening for dinner. The greeting was friendly and they found us a table. The place was busy but order was taken quickly and the food arrived quickly. We were really disappointed with the awful food and found it to be amongst the worst we've ever had. The hummus was bland and didn't taste like it was home made, the halloumi and peppers were grilled too little which left the peppers raw and the halloumi cold and uncooked. The main mixed grill dish had lamb ribs with very little meat, chicken wings undercooked, two cubes of chicken shish and a lamb kofte that was not great. The chips tasted like they were cooked in old oil and the rice was too salty. For two drinks, one starter each, one main each reached a price tag of nearly £90. I wouldn't eat here again, the food really was awful. Having lived in Azerbaijan and Turkey and eaten in authentic Turkish restaurants many many times, I can honestly say that this isn't a patch on the real thing. Expensive and very much over rated.

The food is delicious and very tasty, with so many choices, great service and the staff is incredibly polite and always there for you. The prices are a bit high, however, it’s worth it for the lovely atmosphere and the good vibes. Would highly recommend Dunya restaurant for family gatherings and special occasions. A wide wine and sweets selection. This modern Turkish restaurant is a great addition to Plymouth!

Really excellent food with quick, friendly service. The only shortcoming was the limited range of soft drinks on the menu, which were almost all coke etc.

Amazing food and great service, my only qualm being that , our experience here was so rushed, we had starters and no sooner that had been taken our mains had arrived, once finished we were asked for dessert, so we asked for a little breather, not one minute later someone else asked us for our dessert options, AGAIN less than a minute after that we were asked for options, a staff member then stipulated that we didn’t have much time as the table as it was further booked!!.. we had only been in the restaurant for an hour at this point so I therefore declined any desert option as I was uncomfortably full with no “breather” between meals, it was a special occasion for us to be out and we had had no notice of timings on the booking, and for me this has ruined our experience here, not entirely sure I would return for this very reason.

I had dinner here with my sister and we had the most amazing food, wine and exemplary service. We were warmly welcomed and enjoyed our food very much. The desserts are divine, especially the pina colada ice cream, out of this world! Highly recommend Dunya and will definitely eat there again.

I had special offer of mixed grill kebab with kunefe a few months ago and just kunefe with Turkish tea recently. They both were delicious and tasty with a good price. Every thing was perfect in both visits and really enjoyed it. Recommended kunefe to all.

We were hesitant about eating here due to the particularly high prices(£22.50 for a mixed shish), but thought it must be very good. Sadly not. It wasn't bad, but the 4 of us eating all felt it was quite average. The main issue being the meat wasn't well marinated, and coming from a charcoal grill didn't have any smokiness or characterful nature. Wouldn't revisit. Bit of a shame. £30 for a kebab and pint of Efes.

Very tasty Turkish food in a great setting and easy to reach location I'm the heart of Plymouth. The lunch menu is very good value and offers a good range for a set menu, with good vegetarian options. Service was excellent and very attentive (without being intrusive). A great choice for a special occasion or celebration.

The team at Dunya were welcoming, attentive and incredibly kind. The service was friendly and myself and my group of colleagues thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Everything came out hot, tasted amazing and there was such a variety! We were incredibly impressed with the portion sizes.

Unfortunately this time we were very disappointed. The staff were unfriendly and abrupt. The food did not taste fresh the salad and rice had a weird taste the Tursu had gone off the meat was rubbery and had no flavour. Such a shame because the last time we came it was delicious.

Excellent food, service, and welcome. Helpful and informatics team, in relation to gluten free options. Thoroughly recommend for excellent value two course lunch menu, and extensive evening menu.

Service was brilliant, all the staff very friendly and make a real effort. The food is excellent value for money, the mixed sharing platter was especially good value although rather light on vegetables, it is more than enough for two.

Working away and popped in for dinner, I have eaten A LOT of Turkish and this place is by far the best, It was so good we went 2 nights in a row! Everything was spot on, I can’t believe the flavours, we had a huge selection of different dishes and couldn’t fault one - my fellow workers also agreed was amazing. Well done guys, if I’m back in the area you are my first choice.

We had dinner as 3 people, my son and my husband. While we were drinking our soup, we needed bread. Normally, in Turkish restaurants, extra bread is free or a very small amount is charged. But Dunya Restaurant charged us £4.35 for a handful of bread. It is not ethical for them to charge this price for such a tiny piece of bread. As a Turk, I felt deceived, but I paid the price because I was ashamed for them. But if you are not very hungry and want to eat less, I would not recommend Dunya restaurant. Because in their eyes, you become an unwanted customer who does not spend much money. The waiter who served us was polite but the owner's attitude made me very sad

If I could rate this restaurant more than 5 stars I would, the place is extremly clean and the bathrooms too, wich is amazing and kinda hard to find, the servers are very kind and always offer you the best options, and obviously the food is outstanding, I normally get full easily and leave some food on the plate but this was just too good , I had to eat all even if I was too full!

Fantastically authentic Turkish cuisine right in the middle of town. They have the most incredible Nepalese waitress who is just charming and helpful. Very good food and superb Effes beer. My only gripe was alcohol prices. 1 bottle of beer £7 😩

We had a meal here on Saturday, it was great food. Fantastic service, until they forgot my son's order. Cleared my daughter's drink away even though she hadn't finished it. Other than that it was great 😊

We went there with our guests and everything was amazing - the food has been absolutely delicious, the drinks, the service and the atmosphere- would highly recommend and will go there again for a Turkish feast! Sheima has been our waiter and she has been great throughout the service!

This place..... What an experience! Shelley and zezo made me and my girlfriend feel so welcome! We'd heard good things but didn't expect it to be this good! Veggies, go for the Mantar Sote Casserole, you won't regret it

Perhaps I was expecting more as ratings are good. Firstly, no issue with the food in terms of fresh ingredients, competently executed. But the menu is unexciting. Chicken and/or lamb (or veggie) grilled or skewered, basically. We had a shared mezze starter, six different concoctions, some ok some a little better, with not quite enough flatbread. Mains were a halloumi heavy veggie dish and a chicken shish (grill) with bulgur, salad and chips. Completely fine but unmemorable. Sadly you cannot say location is a plus point, perched on a very large busy roundabout. And while service was pleasant, we were asked by at least 4 staff in the first 10 mins if we wanted a drink when we'd explained we'd explore the menu before choosing a wine. The easy drinking (and cheapest) french Merlot may have been the highlight! And at £80 not really a steal.
