Permanently closed now. Enjoyable lunch, pleasant service and a nice choice of wines by varying sized glasses. We shall return!

We found this wee gem by accident and it's made our holiday really special. Great food, great wine knowledge and really lovely staff. My seafood dish tonight was the best I've ever tasted. Highly, highly recommended.

Best food we've had in a very very long time. Service was perfect. Didn't harass us and very warm and friendly. The food was so so good! 5*. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend and go back again.

Very small and compact seating area gives the place a cosy feel. Service is very efficient with friendly staff. Food choice is limited but this is more then made up for by the quality that is outstanding. Perfect place for a romantic meal ( ask for the candle in the bottle) that will impress without breaking the bank. All the staff are very polite and friendly. The front of house lady Naomi certainly adds to the charm of the evening.

Love this place, very chilled with excellent food. If you like your wine they have very good knowledge to help you get the right wine. Recommended.

Good all round. Limited menu (good), food didn't come to quickly (good), reasonable presentation, enjoyed the food (important), attentive service, good vale. Based on this, I'll be back!

My wife and her friend went to this restaurant yesterday having the set Christmas menu plus a bottle of wine What a lovely experience this was ,beautifully cooked and presented.Great friendly service. She is very fussy about wine glasses, pleased to say they more than passed the test . They were sparkling clean.well done to you all

Had a fantastic dinner here last night. Friendly, efficient service, nice wine list and absolutely delicious food. The price was very good as well considering how much we had to eat and drink. I'm looking forward to going back soon.

Delicious food and the service was spot on. The staff looked after us all night and made us very welcome. The mains are delicious. Try the Crème Brulé, it was one of the tastiest I've had.

The food in here is absolutely delicious and has been for years. One of Plymouths best restaurants in my eye's.

Love it I am so so pleased they have opened again after a long struggle with the covid pandemic. First time we have been back for best part 2 years and I have too say still great service, tapas food amazing the flavours can't wait to go back. Good selection of wines too. Keep up the good work and food. Definitely compliments to the chef. See you hopefully very soon.

Excellent meal and service for my birthday at The Chancel. I was initially a bit disappointed that the fish I was looking forward was not available. However, the chef came to our table and suggested an alternative which was delicious!

Ordered a delicious 3-course meal for the family to celebrate mother's day. There were 7 of us in total and every single course was absolutely incredible! We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Service and delivery was excellent, very easy to follow cooking instructions. Lovely generous portion sizes and delicious food all-round, every course was perfectly executed. Very good value too. Was a lovely way of making a day very special. Thank you to The Chancel for a wonderful Mother's day.

It was such a tiny place we were jammed in like sardines in a can, I had to tell my son who's 6.3 to be careful with his elbows as he almost knocked the waitress with her tray. Food okay, nothing outstanding. We tried it but don't think we'll be back

Went for my boyfriends birthday and they pulled all the stops out, the service was brilliant and the food was even better I would 1000% recommend and we will definitely be going back the next time we are in Plymouth. Brilliant all around!

Lovely atmosphere quick service had the pre theatre menu 2 course meal £13.95 good value small meals great starter it is what it is the beetroot and feta salad lovely but salad doesn't mean 3 types of lettuce that's it no tomatoes cucumber onion just lettuce.

First time here. Phoned to make a reservation saying it was my 32nd anniversary. When we arrived we were shown to our table. A big congratulations poster behind it and an anniversary card from the staff..Food and wine were spot on. Very attentive without hovering. Used a Groupon deal which made it even cheaper.. Will be back soon..,😁

Went with a Groupin offer, no problems encountered with this, and although the specified steak had sold out, we took advantage of the generous upgrade offer. The fillet steaks we then had were the best we'd had in a long while! Friendly and attentive service, and a very smooth couple of glasses of Romanian Pinot Noir made for a perfect meal. Highly recommended!

Amazing food, amazing service and the atmosphere is great too. The wait in between courses was perfect. Perfect place for any occasion. Amazing wine selection. Couldn’t fault it in the slightest. Recommend coming here if you have the chance. Location is amazing too, it’s in town on a quiet street so you don’t have to worry about it being noisy.

Horrendous mash potatoe, cold & lumpy. Terrible pork belly and solid vegetable. Other than that, lovely staff but thats pretty much the only good thing. Very poor.

Been here a couple times. First time was outstanding. Second time not so good. Pleasant enough but food timings were rushed and not cooked well.

Had a lovely meal the other night. Pleasent atmosphere in a calm and relaxed environment.... Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. There were only 2 things that prevent me from giving this the full 5 star rating. One thing that i heard, and one thing that i saw. Nothing impacting the resturant that require some kind of drastic measure. Just because i recognise certain things as i am highly vigilant. And few things very rarely escape me... I am happy to inform the owners as to what it was i spotted if they wish to contact me personally, but i personallt don't think it should be for public reading. Just things i personally pick up on when going to resturants. But anyone reading this, don't panic. Nothing bad that would impact your decision in visiting The Chancel. The place was very warming and loving. And delightfully filling food. And wonderful staff. Had a pleasent time, and would happily go again...

Great Valentine's evening, lovely meal from the Valentine's menu, plenty of choice. Normal menu gives you great choice as well. Excellent wine menu for those wishing to participate. Staff very friendly and service was quick seeing how busy they were. You need to pay for parking in the area whether on street or in a car park.

We had a fantastic evening here as a early Valentine's meal, the staff were very attentive welcoming and helpful. The food was exquisite, not one thing to complain about. The goats cheese bruschetta starter was an incredible combination of flavours that left you wanting more and the steak was cooked to perfection! Overall a very pleasant atmosphere with fantastic food and service! Will definitely be back! 5*

Our favourite place to eat in Plymouth, never had a bad meal. Love their tapas and their steaks are always cooked perfectly. We can never fault them.

Great little bistro. Sorted me a table after I walked in with no booking. Busy, even for a wet and cold Thursday night. Fishcake starter, fish platter for main and a nice Marlborough sauvignon to wash it down.

Loved it! Had a perfectly cooked steak and possibly the best fries ive ever had! The staff were lovely too and super helpful.

Service was good, food was tasty. Not sure about the steaks though but everything else in our part was good.
