Such a fantastic place to stay Our room was spotlessly clean, large and well appointed with a good sized desk. The bathroom was good sized and very clean. What made the visit were the staff, so helpful, accommodating and friendly. From the staff on the desk to the cleaners. I was blown away by the level of service.

We stayed in the carpark in our motorhome, very good of them. So we had dinner and breakfast in their lovely restaurant, with their very attentive staff. Gorgeous nicoise salad and my Napoli pizza was delicious. Very good breakfast too and they had remembered that my husband had asked for veggie sausages and had them cooked and brought to him as soon as we sat down. Well worth a visit.

The restaurant was shocking, they told us to go and choose a table on arrival, we was waiting 30 mins until they decided to take our order, we then waited another 45 mins for the starter to come out, the pitta bread on one of the starters was stale I couldn’t bite through it and it was half of a small pitta bread you can get from Aldi, 4 broken nachos and the hummus was not fresh, it was grainy and didn’t taste nice, also both starters weren’t out at the same time another 10 mins until the chipolatas were served and they were cocktail sausages and there was 4 of them on the plate not even browned served with a little dip of apple sauce, no check back on the table, I tried to find the manager who I found hugging the wall and joking around with the reception staff out of the restaurant, when I tried to explain what’s is going on she wasn’t apologetic, she just said yeh I’ll cancel your order in the kitchen then and we left we waited over an hour for bad food and service, I’ve had better treatment at a McDonald’s and the dunes quote “fine dining” on their website and it’s nowhere near “ok dining”, then there is the 6am wake up music blaring from the kitchen under our room which woke us up, dogs barking, Harley engines revving, the only good point was the clean room and the beach close by but I will not return it’s too expensive for what they are offering especially the restaurant.

Stayed here for 2 nights with my wife and 2 dogs, good car parking swift check in, super friendly reception staff and Zoe at the bar was always polite and friendly. Initial thoughts were the hotel looked and felt spotless went up to the room top floor room was a very good size plenty space for all clothes etc and again spotless. The hotel is absolutely 💯 % dog friendly which was great been to a few places which state this only to find a more dog tolerance not allowed in the breakfast area but free to go anywhere else ALL staff were excellent with the dogs with plenty treats and water provided. Some issues on the first evening with food but this was swiftly sorted had some food on the Saturday evening and it was delicious 😋. The hotel is just a short drive away 5 mins from a lovely wee beach area with some nice walks probably easily walkable for more able-bodied persons but good car park for those who fancy taking the car, we found this by chance tbh would possibly be an idea to highlight this area on arrival. There's maybe is info, but we might have missed it. 40 min drive from Bowness/Winderme, e which was a nice day out. 💯% recommended hotel and will definitely be staying again when travelling down to the area

Stayed here for a few nights and was shocked to see the smallest TV in the world.it was a big room which we upgraded to, so was expecting a TV that I could actually focus on. Also they charged £15 per night for our very small dog. The food in restaurant was to be fair very good however the chef was on his own most nights and our order was wrong at least twice during our stay. Very expensive place to stay so I was expecting a little more attentive service. Won't stay again.

Gareth on check in was friendly and efficient, and was continuously helpful throughout our stay, and our loft room was a decent size. The food in the restaurant was excellent and bumped this hotel up to a 5/5. Adrian from the front of house is attentive and friendly and is matched perfectly with a chef that makes stunning food. Every bite was delicious and was clearly prepared with talent and a love of food. Place is very modern and clean. We Ate at the restaurant one of the evenings which was disappointing ( pork belly portion was small, pasta was bland), although we had a cooked breakfast every morning and it was brilliant, especially the chap running the service who was very accommodating. It’s located right next to the stunning roanhead beach which is a 20 minute walk away, although be prepared to drive if you want to eat / drink outside of the hotel as it’s quite remote. We visited Ulverston. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here, minus the dinner at the restaurant.

First of all i would like to say the hotel was very nice and all the staff were lovely. We stayed for 1 night Sunday 18th June 2023 to Monday 19th June 2023/ We stayed for our 1 year anniversary. My Husband Upgraded us on the morning to a Suite a little surprise, don't get me wrong the suite we got was nice but we expected them all to be similar to the suite showed on the website which it wasn't, I am guessing they have showed the Bridal Suite as the photos on the website. It also says on the website what comes in the rooms e.g tea coffee, ironing board etc it also says that there is a hair dryer provided in the rooms which there wasn't i did however go to reception and they looked in quite a few rooms for me yet they couldn't find one. We also booked a table for the restaurant for the Sunday evening, which we ended up cancelling. I understand it was father's day so they had a father's day menu on which was just a Sunday dinner, we asked if there was another menu along side the father's day one but they said no it was just that one, there were only a handful options between the 2 off us we would have actually liked.

A great location and nice looking hotel but sadly let down by incompetent young staff and noisy guests - waiters not knowing what beer or lager was on offer when a diner asked (I'd only seen the bar once and could name at least three of the beers). Then one dropped a glass and didn't even move the tables and chairs to get it all up, leaving pieces on the floor. The rooms aren't very well soundproofed - people talking and shouting as they walked down the corridors, and lots of noise from rooms above, including a very horrible family who rolled in with their kids at 12.30am then decided to shout and jump on the beds - but I think this is more a lack of respect from guests rather than a hotel issue. The claim that we couldn't be moved because the hotel was "full" was very dubious. However, the older staff in charge of breakfast were brilliant.

The rooms aren't great, we stayed 2 nights and room wasn't cleaned second day so no fresh towels or cups for a tea or coffee. Location isn't great, there is nothing near it and the hotel doesn't make up for this with facilities. The bar area has TVs but they wouldn't put the football on when asked so they're missing out on people sitting there to have a few drinks after a meal. Food was okay and waiting staff nice but overall experience was underwhelming and doubt we will come back.

We spent 4 nights at the Dunes Hotel in April. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We liked,,,,,, 1. Location of the hotel is quiet and peaceful 2. Sandscale Haws is only 3 min drive from hotel is fabulous, for people and dogs! 3. Staff were pleasant on the whole 4. Groupon voucher makes the stay better value for money. 5. Very dog friendly hotel 6. The shower was good. 7. The restaurant area was modern and decorated in a lovely maritime theme. Breakfast area was light and nice. The bar area was also nice and the main reception was also nicely decorated. 8. Plenty of nice outdoor tables and spaces for when the weather improves. We did not like,,,,, 1. Better syaff training required - Not all staff trained to do different jobs, so we had a long wait on arrival as the lovely man at reception said he was unable to check us in. So we had to wait ages for someone who could. We had a similar scenario when ordering drinks from the bar as only one out of the 3 staff around was trained to work the till. 2. Inconsistency - breakfast on day 1 was a cooked meal brought to your table and was nice. Day 2 it was a buffet which was much less better quality. Service in the restaurant was extremely slow when they were busy. We had quite a long wait for our main courses. We were not given the bottle of wine that was included in our Groupon deal at check in. Of course we had no idea what hotel policy was on this. At dinner, the lovely older gentleman who served us gave us a choice of white wine. When we requested the same wine for our second Groupon, we were told we could not have it. Extremely inconsistent. We were told it is a learning curve. Sorry, its a lack of Dunes Hotel staff training, it seemed unprofessional to give something and then say we can't. 3. The room- we spent one very noisy afternoon and night in room 35, which is right next to a cupboard , housekeeping and the stairs. Darcie kindly offered us another room after the first night, so we were grateful for that. The photos of the standard rooms on the website do not reflect the reality. The real standard rooms are very small, but appear spacious from the website photos. The velux window meant we basically had a view of the sky! The bed was a very small double bed, the mattress was hard. Not the most comfortable sleep we have had. We were only given one tiny shampoo, one tiny shower gel for myself and my husband! Glasses for tap water, even plastic ones would have made things seem less basic. No toilet roll holder, no hooks for towels, little space to store toiletries in the bathroom and in the shower cubicle you had to store everything on the floor as there was no shelf or little basket for your shampoo, etc, 4. Dinner - we had 2 dinners at the Dunes. On the first night, I had the lamb which was actually tender and tasty. But my husband had the sirloin medium and it was pretty tough, a cheap cut. On the second night, I had hummus for a starter which was really good, with lovely warm brown bread. My husband had king prawns which were tiny and swimming in watery soya sauce. For mains , we waited ages! When our seafood pizza arrived, it had a few prawns and a lot of tinned sardines, very overpowering flavour. But no squid or tuna or other fish.....The batter on the fish and chips was greasy, the fish was OK. Mostly, we found the food overpriced for the quality we were presented with. 5. Breakfast - good on day 1 with table service and food freshly prepared and brought to your table. Day 2 was a buffet, very average and limited selection, eg, no veggie sausages! Despite liking the location, my husband and I would probably only stay at the Dunes with another promotional offer as the rooms are pricey and the food too for the quality of what they offer. Even then, rooms offered by some budget hotels are much bigger and have much more comfortable beds than was our experience at the Dunes. Due to the fact that most staff were pleasant, we still overall enjoyed our stay. The hotel has potential to be excellent, but for us, it's simply not there yet.

The hotel is really good, great staff particularly William who looked after us when having our evening meal. Regarding the food, I ordered fillet steak medium rare, it was cooked perfectly, but was a bit tough for fillet steak, maybe a cheap cut so check your suppliers Dunes. Breakfast was a disaster however, my wife ordered salmon & scrambled egg on a toasted muffin which appeared without the muffin. By the time the waitress came back with one the rest was cold and she ended up just having cereal and fruit. I ordered a full English which was awful, it came with poached eggs (I asked for fried) which were like bullets, the sausage, black pudding and bacon must have been kept warm for hours and was inedible. I ended up having jam on toast. The waitress apologized and said it was the chef's first day. I'm sorry but a basic breakfast isn't that difficult. Such a shame to end an otherwise good stay.

The rooms are tired and borderline tatty. The carpet had a iron mark on, the bathroom had chips in the tiles and permanent marks on the mirror, fixtures half hanging off, some strange looking yellow substance dripping down the side of the bath, the cupboards looked tired and had a layer of dust on, the tv remote didn't work. The bed was really comfy though. The room wasn't cleaned for the 3 days I was there. In fairness I was traveling with work so might be in a different type of room, but considering what you get as a traveler in some chain hotels this falls well below par, plus travelers shouldn't be treated like second class citizens. The breakfast was very basic and the few available pastries were stale. The staff were really nice and friendly and gave a warm welcome. It's a shame cause the hotel is in quite a nice location. However, I have to bring this down to a 2 star because in the morning for breakfast, I was not happy. The dishes had not been co pletely cleared, although the coffee mug was clean, the rubbish on the saucer had not been removed. My wife's glass had a lipstick mark on the rim. Thankfully, she missed it when she initially drank from it, and the food order was incorrect. Not only that, the clothing of the breakfast server was a T-shirt and black jeans!

Staff were very helpfull and friendly, the hotel was spotless, very fresh modern decor, first class, ideal place to stay, beautiful countryside fabulous walks along the nearby beach / ( Sandscale - Nature reserve) 3 mins by car- or a 20 mins walk, would highly recommend a stay, we are definitely going to organise a booking.

Everything about our stay was exceptional. It was our first trip away with our 1 year old dog and it was made so easy and so nice by the hotel with the room and the staff. The food was very good and value for money with quite a good choice. Have to mention how good all the staff were again as it definitely made our stay.

For the price and location, couldn't find any faults. The room we stayed in was clean and comfortable, bathroom was spacious. Breakfast was good and the staff were friendly. If you're staying in the area for work/pleasure, this is the place.

What can I say as so so dissapointed with this place. Starter was Chicken Parfait, Onion Marmalade and Toast. It arrived as per picture with half a baguette. Sent back and returned with toasted frozen bread. Also Mushroom soup that was served as Mushroom soup, that was in fact Tomato soup. Main, Fillet steak, A Mushroom, Cheap Grilled Tomato, Chips & Peppercorn Sauce. Steak, unlikley it was fillet as it was very fatty, Peppercorn Sauce tasted like packet and it was so oversalted with rock salt it was sent back, to be returned brushed off and a new unsalted mushroom added. Desert, Lemon Tart with Raspberry Sorbet, Tart was not too bad but still waiting for the Sorbet. Partners Cocktail arrived with only half of the ingredients as they only had half. Service a mixture of okish, to lots of apologies to very poor. Especially after the state of the Disabled Toilet was raised after my Partners Son tried to use it, who is wheelchair bound. Meaning it was the only toilet available to him and as it was covered in excrement we had to give it a miss and the poor sod had to wait until we arrived home. I cannot believe how bad The Dunes has become after such wonderful experiences in the past. Poor quality food service and attitude. Ohhh the decor was ok, well the clean bits at least. I only wished T had wanted the toilet upon arrival as it would have been a hasty retreat and a saving of £195. Yes I paid full as not interested in freebies, discounts or we will knock off etc. I just expect to recieve, good service, food and what we believe we are getting from the menu.

we did not get breakfast yet paid for it!! we were told the chef was not there after waiting for 2 and a half hours. they did not bother informing us and we only knew after we asked…. Avoid at all cost check other hotels like the town house looks better. The manager is not friendly it’s like you are annoying him when you raise your concerns. Yeah we ended up getting 20% refund but that’s not the experience you want when travelling. The rooms were quite clean but boiling hot no fan or aircon just to warn u

The hotel is developing so getting better each time we visit. Still needs investment. I've only used it as a venue for meetings and business lunches.

Nice looking place.. staff ok but had to go find them twice.. dirty spoon on table.. ordered prawn cocktail.. was just half an iceberg lettuce and a bag of prawns tipped over.. hardly any sauce and the spread on the brown bread was cheap margarine.. then a steak that was mostly inedible fat and gristle..no offer of sauces and the peppercorn sauce thin and watery from a packet mix.. the salad and mushrooms were delicious.. use that salad for your prawn cocktail.!!

Great room, couple issues being on ground floor, had to keep curtains closed as room was right next to staff entrance so people smoking and walking past regularly, also could not leave windows open as there was no way to lock them so someone could climb in. Food was absolutely amazing could not fault waiting on staff.

Lovely hotel really nice rooms, only thing for me was the TV was so small might have been a 15/20 ich flat screen from year 2000 It was like watching from my laptop across the room with only a few channels available on standard TV recommend bringing a fire stick like we did Internet was good with no buffering or issues friendly staff Over all enjoyed our short stay

Had a lovely stay. Nice relaxing bar. Ate in restaurant - we all enjoyed our food. Service good and staff helpful. My main grump would be that there was no heating on during the day and it was quite chilly around the bar. We went to bed and the heating had gone on - way too warm and had to open windows as far as possible! I would stay again.

Fantastic stay at the Dunes Hotel last week with our young kids. The park at the hotel kept the 3 year old occupied and plenty to see in the local area… highly recommend the Zoo only 10 minutes from the hotel and a couple of soft play areas nearby as well. Staff were really friendly and helpful throughout our stay and the food was amazing. Particularly enjoyed the rib eye with my wife opting for the duck twice! We highly recommend this hotel.

Please sort out the salt and pepper chips! They are rock hard and taste like reheated cardboard, and definately not enough flavouring so went in the bin. These used to be really nice and freshly cooked.

A family run endeavour that really brings the tastes of Siam to Cumbria, just great food and a warm welcome it really is worth the effort, overjoyed that they survived the pandemic when so many didn’t.
