Having spent 2 weeks visiting the regional pubs and restaurants I thought I would be visiting “just another average pub”. Quite the opposite. What a great place. From the minute I entered the staff were very friendly. I ordered the duck special which was exceptionally good. My wife had the crab linguine which was equally good. Definitely worth a visit.

Not sure how you can charge £17 for a chicken burger one piece of chicken, a bun, one lettuce, one tomato and a truck load of chips. Don't mind paying but it would be nice to feel like you get something for your money worth. Lovely view.

Me and my partner always like to pop in here for a drink when we visit family. We decided to eat here last night for the first time. My partner had the steak which was cooked perfectly and I had the lamb burger by far the best burger I've ever eaten!. We always love coming here as its such a lovely place.

Lovely, unpretentious and straight to the point. Nice varied selection of plates. Will be back.

We had booked lunch for Dad’s birthday, 3 of us travelling 60 miles (120 mile round day trip) specifically for this special occasion. Unfortunately 30 minutes before our reservation, we received a call to say there had been a problem with burst water, causing an issue with the electrics therefore our booking had to be cancelled. This was very disappointing as we’d been looking forward to this celebration especially having travelled so far. Sad to say I am therefore unable to rate the food, service or atmosphere as we had to find an alternative location at short notice.

Bad luck for not having any power on the day of our reservation, of course unforeseen and not your fault. However I was very p-ed off to learn that you had known of this for 4 hours and had not bothered to try to call or message to inform us. We were looking forward to this meal and had to make the journey for nothing. Do better.

Great menu, well executed, nice staff, nice old pub setting. The lamb burger was juicy and tasty. The kids menu burgers were great too. The carameliseda white chocolate mousse with lemon thyme shortbread was delicious!

Well... I don't know what's changed. We went to the Dun Cow last year and it turned out to be the culinary highlight of the trip. We were excited to repeat the experience this year, but alas, it was but a shadow. First off we ordered a couple of starters which we indeed quite tasty. Seeing how quickly those came out we got worried the mains we ordered would arrive too quickly. One goes for the dining "experience" after all, not just to fill a belly. The very polite staff informed us (oddly they seemed surprised at the request) that that's no problem and that we should wave them over when we're ready and that the braised chicken leg, which was one of our orders would take 15 mins to come out. When we were ready (no longer than 10 mins) we ordered our food (Lamb burgers w/ blue cheese sauce + Braised chicken left w/ bbq sauce), expecting it would take the mentioned 15 mins. Unfortunately the food started arriving pretty much immediately, meaning it was prepared beforehand and shoved under a heat lamp. Not ideal. We were still quite excited for the food however since we had such a great experience last time! Unfortunately the quality seems to have tumbled straight down. The braised chicken leg that was advertised on the specials board was very far from special. The bbq sauce it was swimming in must have been straight from a McDonalds sachet and the chicken itself was supremely underseasoned. The lamb burgers barely tasted of lamb and were underseasoned. That being said, the chips and blue cheese sauce were tasty. The house wine was also very nice and reasonably priced. We were quite disappointed, but decided to get some dessert too since what we had last time was amazing. More disappointment I'm afraid. The cheesecake was badly cooked and not of the right consistency, while the chocolate marquise w/ vanilla ice cream and pistachio cream was (against all odds and with great effort I'm sure) made to be incredibly bland and boring. We found out that the venue is having a change of hands, so I'm guessing the old chef just couldn't be bothered anymore. The only thing I can say to the new management is good luck and please take note from the mistakes of the previous owners. Old review: Absolutely delicious food! Lovely cozy pub, great atmosphere, the staff were nothing but professional, friendly and accommodating. Great experience, would go back in a heartbeat. The only tiny wrinkle was that we wanted to finish off the night with some espresso coffees but the only kind offered was filtered coffee.

The dunn cow serves the best fish and chips I've ever eaten in my 80 years.

Amazing amazing food in an INCREDIBLE location and the staff were so accommodating and friendly. Great atmosphere. We aren’t local, wished we were. Highly recommend everything about this place. We visited after a trip to see the seals with our daughter and dog 🐶 Thank you 🤩

Awful meal not sure if the chef had an off night. What was more disappointing was the managers reaction to the fair and politely put criticism (very discreetly done by myself) had much better meals and customer service in the neighbouring George and dragon/ wiverton bell.

Booked for Anniversary Sunday lunch. No Sunday dinner. Very limited menu no mussel no risotto . Been many times before must of changed hands. We both choose fish & chips which didn't disappoint.

Always a wonderful place to eat. Not fancy, just good food at a reasonable price in a lovely building with a garden overlooking the marsh for when the weather's nice. We always eat there when we're in Salthouse and suggest you do too!

Great meal last Monday - thankyou

We have been here many times as the food has always been excellent. Sadly at the last 2-3 visits the standards have dropped. We had lunch here yesterday as the friend we were taking requested to go there. The service was beyond bad, the staff really didn't care whether we were there or not, items ordered were forgotten, the staff were mainly at the bar chatting and looking at their phones seemingly oblivious to diners. The food was very mediocre (not sure it was all freshly cooked) and most definitely not worth the prices they are charging. I didn't mention the quality of food at the time as no one bothered to ask us. At the end when we asked for teas and coffees we were told the only hot drink available was a filter coffee and nothing else. No apology or explanation was offered. We won't be returning.

We were randomly floating around the area, yesterday, trying to find somewhere to eat. We were a little late for lunch but they very kindly invited us in and prepared lunch for myself, my wife and two children. Everyone enjoyed their food. I had a lovely bacon burger, my son had a steak which he loved, and my daughter had a little burger. My wife tried fresh oysters and some raw tuna; she loved it all, too. Friendly, welcoming and comfortable place, with delicious food. Do it!

The absolute best burgers in Norfolk are back (lamb burgers pah) alongside the Fat Cow. A great selection of beers, truly fantastic oysters and seriously fresh fish. The views over the marshes and out to sea from the beer garden are pretty special and there is table service outside. The staff are friendly and always there to help. Nothing is too much. A 'lite' decorative revamp in the dining room makes this a nicer space when the weather necessitates inside dining.

Was always lovely and delicious. However, we booked 3 months in advance and they sat us in the back house or garden. When there was a table free. The service seemed to favour the locals and the burger, the best thing on the menu and the source was the name of the restaurant, had been taken off in the name of high prices. If you are a local and looking for a good country pub with a variety of food, this is amazing. If you are a tourist and want a burger and a warm, non-claustrophobic place to sit, you may want to rethink.

Had lunch here yesterday, was nice and busy but staff fully attentive and lovely, food was delicious and quick and good value for money! Beautiful views outside the front too for an after lunch drink.

Lovely place, very dog friendly, sat outside on a nice summer's day and enjoyed the views, confit duck from specials board was absolutely fantastic, as was desert and starter.

Location excellent, service too. We ordered 3 beef ribs, each £98, between 8. All agreed the meat was pretty tough. If you’re going to charge £98 for a steak, it had better be good.

Three of us went in for a main course and a drink. Quality fresh food as always. Never had a bad meal or drink in all the times I've been. Very friendly. Love the place. The garden is amazing too over looking the sea in the close distance. Excellent daily food choices on the chalk board.

What a shame! We have visited the Dun Cow on many occasions during our frequent visits to North Norfolk and have always loved it. Also recommended it to many friends and family over the years. Today however we drove all the way from Holkham for a pint and something to eat with our dog in the front garden overlooking the marshes as we always do. We were told that they weren’t serving food in the front garden - just inside or on the rear patio because ‘they didn’t have the staff to be running around delivering food outside….’ The rear patio is outside - just through a different door! We even offered to collect our food and take it to our table ourselves - but were bluntly refused. Had a quick drink - which we didn’t finish - and moved on. Not sure where the friendly staff who can’t do enough for you were today - but we were very disappointed and you lost our custom for a decent meal. Strange way to run a business which must rely on its food sales! Must have caught you on an off day I guess. Shame.

We found this little gem on Google, searching for dog friendly pubs in the local area we are staying. We have driven past before but had never had the chance to go in. We are a family of 4 with a toddler, we were greeted with a friendly face and kind staff straight away. All the staff were very friendly, attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The food was outstanding. There were lots of delicious choices and good value for money. The service was excellent and quick. I would highly recommend this pub. If you are in the area, put it on the top of your list to visit. It’s so refreshing to visit a pub with such lovely people who work there, topped with amazing food which made it such a nice experience.

Lovely relaxing lunch. Amazing views. Delicious food - fish stew so tasty and rarely available rabbit dish. The goats cheese on the dessert menu was also a surprising treat. Friendly service. No negatives. Will be back again soon.

Went for lunch with some friends on Monday, one in a wheelchair. We were made comfortable at a convenient table. The menu was innovative and the food served excellent. I had Hake fillet served on risotto - very tasty. We’ve been here quite a few times and the good just gets better.

I would highly recommend a visit here, the staff were really welcoming and friendly, food was delicious and the restaurant itself is really well designed with great views out towards the sea.

Had a lovely dinner here tonight. Beautiful setting, very cosy atmosphere and super friendly helpful staff. All the food looked and smelled amazing so was very hard to choose but I ended up having the crab and pea tartlet which was very flavoursome and my husband really enjoyed the potted salmon. I had the crab linguine main which was a special and tasted really fresh and interesting, they weren't stingy with the crab either. Highly recommend their sticky toffee pudding as well!!

Visited for Easter Sunday, food was average and didn’t have much flavour, especially the fish dish with lemongrass. Service was average, the waitress was wearing a cardigan with large sleeves which was touching our food when leaning over the table, not hygienic. Could do with some improvements, didn’t live up to the good reviews it has!

Ok.. booked for sunday lunch but they had run out of roasts when we arrived at 1.50 which seemed odd. Alt options weren't that interesting or filling and we left feeling underwhelmed by it all. There were also 6 dogs in the restaurant which i know seems to be the norm for north norfolk but for me paying £20+ for a main meal.. I'd rather taste the food than the smell of dogs. Hey ho if restaurants prefer non paying dogs to customers that is their choice i guess. win some lose some.. sadly won't return.

Sensational food - particularly the fish stew! Tried oysters, baked goats cheese, tuna tempura, salmon pot, mussels, basque cheesecake…. (There were 4 of us!)

Popped in for a quick drink after a walk on the beach. Very cosy in the winter.

Place is a bit hard to find and we drove in circles until we saw the Cow image on the side of the building wall. Parking is horrendous at lunch time and lots of cars parked on every space that does not have a double yellow line nearby. Service is cheerful, food is good, esp the halloumi fries and burger. Smallish place, so make reservations. Price wise, on the high side. Some tables has views of the sea. Nice place to chat over a meal because it is not too noisy.

Lovely food - bit more pricey for the area, but clearly pitched at restaurant level. The small plates are, in fact, quite small; they make an effort to put a unique spin even on classics like fish and chips. I had the potted/smoked salmon and halloumi fries which were both very well done: lots of fresh flavours with the salmon, and freshly fried halloumi fries with aioli.

Great food. Warm welcome from friendly staff. It is among our favourite places to eat.

One of my favourite restaurants in North Norfolk; we almost always come here when in the area. Fish & chips is always good and the steak tonight with Miso butter was very tasty. Good local beer too and always very friendly.

Toilets could do with a service! Door won't shut and the loo seat falling off! The sign says "Shut the door!" Haha! Someone has a sense of humour!

A wonderful cosy dining experience. We were a party of three and all chose different meals. All really well cooked and presented. The black pudding stuffed partridge and the fish stew particularly good. Our server was Debbie - friendly, welcoming and helpful.

Just visit the restaurant. I'm very disappointed about the tualets, excuse me if you have only one tualet for so many tables, it should be cleaned more regulary🙈 The food and drinks are pricy. If you choose a dish from a small menu, the portion will be really small. Also, it is not a big option on the menu. Just giving all stars only to personal, they were nice, polite, and always with smile.

We have just finished one of the Best Sunday Lunches ever! The Dun Cow exceeded my expectations on quality of food and service. Our first visit but you are welcomed like you every other day. The staff are very engaging and effciently cater for all your needs. The sirloin of roast beef with five vegetables all cooked to perfection certainly left me satisfied and full and their homemade Dun Cow burger was the stuff that fast food chains even Byron can only dream about. The menu is consise but innovative with something for everyone, with quality locally sourced ingredients cooked to perfection! If you visit you won't be disappointed! I promise you I have only give this level of recomendation a few times in my lifetime! 22.10.23 - Update to my original post after our visit today - all remains very good, food, service & atmosphere however my only criticism is they no longer offer a Sunday roast which leaves the experience while still excellent with something missing in fact the guests on the tables either side of us were all looking forward too Sunday Roasts - Dun Cow owners this is a mistake.

Visited on a very wet Wednesday night. Place was fairly quiet but service was prompt and friendly. Food was ok, lamb burger very tasty. Fish and chips ok, chips perhaps a bit overdone but I think we were a bit late and the last orders for the kitchen so maybe that was the reason. The (cold) “pea ketchup” was and interesting twist, I’d probably stick with a hot pea offering personally but I’ve no doubt others will like it.

Had a great table in the bar area with a view of the sea. Excellent service! My friend had moules and fries, which were great. My seabass special was very tasty but quite small for the price.

Best fish and chips I've ever had! Lovely friendly service in the most idyllic setting....

Came on a Monday booked was still quite busy. Very pretty barn with fairy lights to decorate the wooden trusses. Some nice specials on to compliment the menu. What was advertised on the web site, and the menu supplied after booking did not include a few dishes that had interested me once we were provided the menu on arrival, which was a shame. We had halumi sticks and both had a burger which was really very nice. We then treated ourselves to the poshest dessert Raspberry soufflé with Raspberry sorbet ice cream which was to die for and prepared to perfection. Definitely worth a visit would love to return when in the area again.

Stopped here on a recommendation. Only wanted a quick light lunch and we got both. Food was delicious and the service by some great young men was polite, considered and efficient. If only we were local we would visit regularly

A great first visit here last Thursday evening. We really enjoyed the buzz of the bar and restaurant which has real character mixed with something a bit different from other pubs and eateries. Service was excellent, friendly and fun and all our food was delicious ( devilled crab tart and kidneys for starters followed by fish stew and burger for main).Really impressed, thank you to all the team.

I visited the Dun Cow a few years ago in the middle of winter and enjoyed it, so returned this year with high expectations which were more than met. It was a gloriously hot day and we ate in the large garden, overlooking the stunningly beautiful marshes. The food was delicious - I had grilled mackerel, chosen from a good menu. They have a very efficient ordering system, which seems geared up to coping if they are very busy, although it wasn't especially busy that day, and the service is friendly. The whole experience was a delight. Nearby there are numerous walks, including up to the beautiful old church, from where there are lovely views. The church also has an interesting, and sobering, exhibition about the 1953 flooding.

Had a fantastic evening meal at this fine Inn. Didn’t have a reservation but the staff made room for us somehow. Will definitely make reservations when visiting again. Can’t recommend this place more highly. Thanks also for the brilliant staff!

Delicious food and good value for money. Only issue is that they have a strange ordering process even on quiet days when you get a time slot for when they will accept food order to reduce waiting times. Accept that this might be of benefit on busy days but seemed odd on the day we went when it was obviously quiet.

Delicious food and good drink selection. They have a system where you have a time allocated when you can order food. It does get busy so booking appears to be a good idea. Food is high quality and the atmosphere is great. They have a couple of parking places up front and there is parking on the village green in front. They offer pescetatrian options, but I am unsure if there were vegan or vegetarian options. Personal is very friendly and accommodating.
