Prezzo 13 sterline circa a testa. Cameriere italiano gentile.

An old favorite of ours for the past 20 years, the Duke is out of business - for now. The outer shell has been left as a monstrous new works takes place in the updating of the Victoria Station environs, but a worker on site told me to expect a re-opening in two - three years.

I went with some friends to this pub before taking a train from Victoria station. We didn't expect such a nice meal next to the main train station in London for a reasonable price.I had the steak and ale pie, it was one of the best meat pies I have tried. My friends ordered a burger, which was good too.I consider eating there again if I am near Victoria train station.

We stopped here for a drink just before going to the Victoria Palace Theatre. Given it was during the olympics so the pub was busy with drinkers. However, the customer service was terrible, 4 staff behind the bar all of which could speak hardly any/if any english and myself and other customers had to point to which drink we wanted. The drink i had was disgustingly warm and cloudy as if the barrel hadn't been tapped correctly and the cooling system wasn't on. I work in a pub myself so excuses like it's a hot day or it's near the end of the barrel don't wash with me. And if this wasn't bad enough did i mention the prices? A standard pint of horrible beer and small (and i mean small!) glass of rose' wine cost me £10.75 i had to take a double take when she showed me the price on the till (again couldn't understand when she told me the price).Fair to say this duke of york will not have 10,000 men any time soon.

We ended up eating here on our first night in London because it was close to our hotel. The pub has lots of "curb appeal", looks great from the outside. We ate in the dining room upstairs, because we were traveling with a teenager and were told we couldn't be served in the actual pub with a minor. The dining room was fine and the staff very friendly. Service was fine, and they were kind enough to seat us within a half hour of closing time. However, the food was disappointing to us. We ordered fish and chips and roast. All of the food was mushy and so bland, and some of it arrived luke warm, especially the vegetables. I think the food may have been cooked elsewhere or earlier and simply reheated? Sadly, I can't recommend eating here.

Having found this on the doorstep of our intended destination, the matinee showing of Wicked we went ahead to grab a bite to eat and a pint before the show. Food was very nice, service was okay as well. Slight error with our order but rectified swiftly. Seating was lacking, but not a problem for us and the men's toilets were a tad on the smelly side. Would I return, definitely........ yes.

I went to the Duke of York Pub for dinner late in March while on vacation in London. The building looks old and classic and the location is great being right next to Victoria Station and next to the Palace Theatre. However, do not be fooled by the classic pub looks and frendly staff. The food is bad. I ordered fish and chips which were poorly done -- the batter on the otherwise good fish was too thick and too mushy. The chips were soggy and flavorless. I ordered a cheese plate for dessert and while the cheese was good the apple that came with it looked as if it had been dropped many times. This is only a good place to go for a pint but absolutely avoid it for food!!!! There are way too many good places to eat nearby in this area of London rather than wasting an evening here. Go elsewhere and avoid this place.

For Christmas 2011, booked some tickets to see Billy Elliot (next door) for New Years Eve and wanted a nearby pub / restaurant for a meal before hand. I had booked, in person, but that seemed to have been mislaid, however they still managed to get us in, for which I'm thankful. It is obviously an ideal location for shows goers as both Billy Elliot and Wicked are very close by. I was interested in the chicken and mushroom pie but only if it had puff pastry as I'm not that keen on shortcrust. I asked the waitress who was unsure so sent the head waiter who explained to me that a chicken and mushroom pie is made from, yep you guessed it, chicken and mushrooms in a bread box with a top but still couldn't tell me what the lid was! So not wanting to delay any further plumped for the mixed grill. Things were looking good as a starter of goats cheese arrived very well presented and rather tasty. Unfortunately things then went down hill. Lasagne seemed like it was out of a packet, very bland. Steak n chips was dry and just not very nice, and the mixed grill, well, the sausage was nice, the dry chicken tasted like the sausage only not as moist, the lamb chop was blood and fat and the steak, I won't even go there. The chocolate fudge cake again was quite unique in both taste and texture, then we departed to see the Show and midnight fireworks which were by far the 2 best things of the night. Next year I will pick somewhere else and walk a little more to the theatre. It's a shame, as with a little effort, that place could be do much more

Grabbed dinner here during a trip to London with my father, since it was close to our hotel and just across the street from Victoria train/tube station. It looked like a nice place, but the menu is the exact same as a million other pubs in England. Food quality was very poor. I couldn't finish my chicken, because it was just nasty. My father had the Sunday roast and was unhappy with his meal, too, leaving a good deal of it on the plate. Worst place we ate in all our 2 1/2 weeks in England!

We stopped in here for lunch, quite at random one day after sightseeing around Buckingham Palace. I had a "Big Ben Burger", which is common at many area pubs while the mother had a steak and ale pie. The burger was quite fine, but I was sorry I had not ordered the steak and ale. She let me have a taste and it was perfection.Almost any pub in Britain serving food will have a steak and ale pie or something similar, but of all I have tried, this was the best. A couple of days later, we travelled half way across London to visit this pub again and the journey was worth while. With good ale, a good staff, and a convenient location across from Victoria rail and tube stations, this establishment is worth visiting.

The Pub was recommended by our hotel. It is very close to Victoria Station. My traveling companion was wanting cottage pie. We went upstairs to eat as the downstairs area was a bit noisy. It did take some time to get our food, but there was only one waiter taking care of the entire room. My friend enjoyed her cottage pie. I ordered fish and chips, but it was not the best I have ever had. I might try somewhere else next visit.

We dined upstairs since it appeared that the pub downstairs was very crowded and noisy. There are tables, and a lounge area upstairs, which is where we sat. The overstuffed chairs were comfy after a long day of sightseeing, and the room is away from the noise. Only thing is you had a view straight down into the bar/hallway area from where we sat - a little unappetizing. The food itself was just right - reasonably quick and tasty. The fries with the roast of the day were not overly salted (a plus), and the mash & meat were also good. The chicken skewers and salad were so tasty I finished them all. A variety of beers and ales are on tap as well as imported varieties. DH sampled an ale that he enjoyed, but whose name escapes us. We were joined by a friend for drinks, and DH was surprised how reasonable the total bill was (under $50).

This traditional looking English Pub is next door to the Victoria Palace Theatre so is ideal for a drink and food before a show. We visited on Tuesday evening 3rd November 2009 On the night we were there it had a great noisy, busy atmosphere. This is a Punch Pub part of a very large chain but I think with self employed managers. The food menu is exactly the same in every Punch Pub but with the actual cooking and presentation in the hands of the "kitchen" This from my experience has a huge impact on the food. This night we ordered Chicken Tikka £7.40, House salad £5.85 and a jacket potato with Cheddar cheese £4.60. My wife and daughter thought the food "OK". I found the Chicken Tikka week and thin, almost a soup.We would return for drinks but would eat elsewhere.
