Duke of Wellington Hotel in West Somerset

Arrived on Thursday for quick bite to eat and was surprised with how beautiful the decor and how friendly the staff especially the one with the beard and curly hair who went out of his way to help us with the menu options Food was lovely and price was perfect too

This hotel is a Wetherspoons a brand that we associate with positive things. The room was great. However outside the window which was an old wood single glazed sliding sash type was a public drinking and smoking area with gazebo so all the noisiest people were there well after closing time. Also the rubbish bins in sheds so staff were dumping stuff late after the evening clear up. In the early morning, apart from the early smokers a staff member started with a leaf blower. Not good! Wifi was iffy, unusual for Wetherspoons. Ordered drinks on the app in evening, had to go and chase 25 minutes later as no show. Morning breakfast great, swift and tasty. Possibly staff problems as this is not what we expect from this organisation. Finally no parking at hotel and no long stay pay parking very close by. Not the best experience but no intention of going to Minehead again ...... maybe some have been using Butlins as their model!

Appalling service from a dozy bar person who was slow and tried to drown us in our own drinks. Food was ok ... chips cold. This is the worst Weatherspoons I've ever had the displeasure of setting foot in. Never again!!

Whenever we go on a trip, we generally go to Weatherspoons for lunch, as they are very good value . However, Weatherspoons in Minehead have set a very high standard in speed of service and quality of food. It is the fastest service we have seen, and the food was both good quality and hot. Thank you very much, we throughly enjoyed our lunch.

Stopped in here for a cheap dinner to escape the bedlam on Butlin's. Firstly, there was a good selection of ales, which was great. However, I was surprised by some of the prices and how different they were to a non-tourist location. I was also disappointed with some of the staff. I was completely ignored at the bar as they were more attentive to some very rude and demanding customers which, frankly, left me feeling that I didn't want to spend my money there. They need to be more attuned to who is at the bar and think about their customer services. The food was fair,though.

I had a mixed grill. The meat was shrivelled into nothing, 14 chips were counted, the peas had an awful re heated taste, and varied between brown and an off green colour. I had 1 mushroom that was no bigger than your thumb. My wife’s steak was 40% gristle and fat. The place was a dark and uninviting. Probably the worst Wetherspoons we have visited. I’d advise the owners to look at the Ilfracombe set up, yes more modern, but how a Wetherspoons should be run properly.

One of the best Wetherspoons; great meal outdoors in the sunshine. The food was great and so was the staff and the flowers.

Asked for steak well done and specially stated NOT BURNED. Manager came out and said if he refunded us we would not be served again because they feel they couldn't meet our "high" standards. All we were asking was for our steaks not to be burned... He blamed the char grill process for it being burned but no where on the menu does it say the steak is chargrilled AND char grilled steak doesn't mean burned. If you do come I recommend not to order steak.....

Went with a bunch of friends for lunch. What I watched was shocking! A member of staff (young lady) behind the bar screaming at a table of lads enjoying a few drinks telling them not to be so loud or she will get the kicked out. She then proceed to swear, and got the security to take them out. After watching the whole thing happen the lads were not doing anything wrong, they were in a pub laughing. It was not a nice experience with families around shocked at the language of the bar lady. Who then also spoke to two girls who was waiting at the bar to “f@cking move and go to another bar as they were asking her not to shout or swear as there are kids in the area. The bar manager did come and take the bar lady off the bar but it was not the point. Discussing behaviour!!

I had a quick Sunday lunch of a small, but sufficient, roasted vegetable pizza with especially good capsicum. A soft drink complemented the food. Staff were efficient as the pub was doing a steady trade. Cost at GNP8.86 was fair. The carpet was in good condition and the tables, seating and small male toilets were all OK, though the loos could benefit from renovation.

I’m a fan of ‘Spoons, but this place was scruffy, tired and not cup to the expected standard. There are alternative pubs in Minehead, more expensive, but clean, tidy and friendly 👋

Great play to have a meal. Food was piping hot and cam out quickly. Love and quiet. Good choice of food. Good price and include a drink.

We have eaten here before and had a nice meal, so took daughter and grandchildren today 28.5.2023 while on holiday. 9 meals came out in less than 10 minutes. They were all lukewarm and seemed quickly microwaved the chips seemed like they had been around for a while. We have eaten in quite a lot of wetherspoons always OK but this was by far the worst meal for us all. Never again here

Ordered on the App, very slow service, had to go to the bar, to chase my order, it eventually materialised. Bar was not busy, must do better. No justification to pay a premium, here, but they expect you to pay one.

We took the Exmoor Coaster bus from Lynmouth and called here for lunch as you know where you are with a Wetherspoons. Food up to the same great standard and quickly arrived considering how busy it was, staff friendly and checking if we were ok. Top marks all round

First of all I would like to say that the staff here were excellent, pleasant and friendly. The food was typical Wetherspoons, so OK, you know what you get for your money. The building however needs a makeover, and the toilets need a serious upgrade. Would have stayed longer (and spent more) if we’d had a comfy seat, you can only sit for so long on a dining chair by a table. It’s a big pub but I think there were only 5 comfortable seats available, which were taken, so after eating we headed elsewhere.

One of the best Wetherspoons I've been to. Happy staff and lovely atmosphere. 5 stars to them all. All smiles from the staff, drinks decent and although it takes a time to be served, it is just the laid back manner.

Monday evening;( 3 days ago) 19.45. Under age groups in the courtyard area running amok,staff turning a blind eye as they are 'just kids and locals'. Local kids spending no money in there and making a nuisance of themselves spoilt the environment,adult males seen buying alcohol for clearly under age girls. We watched so many couples walk in and out while sitting outside,trying to enjoy a quiet drink on what was a lovely sunny evening. Ruined completely by too much dross being tolerated. Not a door security person anywhere on site. Inside even worse with dogs in the bars,and outside in spite of sighs stating 'assistance dogs only'. Monday morning; These signs were ignored and one staff member even said ' the manager is here at the moment otherwise you could come in for breakfast with your dog',again to locals she clearly knew. They sat in the courtyard area right next to the sign saying 'no dogs' and 'no smoking'. Both activities ignored by both couples. Poor management,poor environment,poor service,dirty tables,receipts not provided without repeatedly asked for,staff off hand.Poor quality breakfast / eggs split and buns cold. Will not return or recommend. Whilst there may not be a huge choice of pubs in Minehead,anywhere would be better than this one. Don't spoil your trip by visiting here.

Pop in for a cuppa while on our team building day today, just what we needed the cuppa were amazing!

The barman served me a flat pint and it also tasted flat but because there was Ltd bubbles in the bottom of the glass he insisted it wasn’t flat !! I said taste it yourself and he said I’ll top it up but won’t change it ! It was still flat , very arrogant barman.

We came here for lunch, hoping for better service than the last time! Yes, the service had vastly improved but, oh, the food was not very pleasant. We chose chargrilled chicken with chips. The chicken was full of tiny bones which we had to keep removing with our fingers (not good etiquette). The chips looked fine but very quickly became soggy. Coffee was OK. The rowdy element came in (as before). It must be their favourite place, I guess, but dear me, they are very noisy. Toilet still needs updating. But this is a Wetherspoons, so what could we expect! I have to add, though, that this building is magnificent and deserves better.

Arrived after a tough days cycling on exmoor looking for somewhere warm to stay with some good food on the go From the outside this place looks lovely. Staff were great and couldn’t do enough for us. Room was fab for the money and I got a great meal on a budget which hit the spot I’ll defo be back and recommend a stay here. It’s not the ritz, but it’s cheap, cheerful, cosy, friendly and with good rooms

Popped in for coffee and dessert after dinner elsewhere, no dairy free options available, not even biscuits as they had ‘ran out’ Website states they work with with dietary requirements yet electronic board to advise allergens was out of order. Not impressed.

Booked into the hotel for a mini break with a friend. It was difficult to see how to get into the hotel. A rope had been put up to stop people coming in? Couldn’t tell if the queue was for the pub section or the hotel? A maitre D available for the restaurant but literally no one manning Reception for ages? Room was filthy & dusty. Shocking - considering each room has a sanitised sticker on the door. We were horrified. Loud & cranky noisy air con. Cheap awful toilet roll. Writing rubbed off the remote so you can’t see what any channels are. Pretty devastated really. Why does the person replying to bad reviews just copy & paste ‘I’ll tell the manager’?

There is no parking available, only on street.The reception and staff were very friendly.The rooms were basic, but had everything we needed.The first floor, where we stayed, was extremely hot, owing to the scorching temperatures outside, but a fan was provided.The breakfast was , great, as you would expect from a Wetherspoons

Went to this pub with the family. Ate inside and was shocked by the total relaxation of all covid guidelines nothing was as it should be and the groups of people were not as stated on the sign. Total shambles

Went to this pub for lunch ,ordered on the app .outside area full of smokers totally ignoring signs and one way system. Food average .had to go all way around to get some condiments as waiting staff wouldn't!

i always have a mixed grill at wetherspoons a beer is added and it's great value at just over £11i can't really remember what my wife and son had but they also enjoyed their mealswe also had a breakfast here during our week long holiday, it too was good and great value what stopped me giving a 4* was the fact the toilet should of been cleanerit wasn't terrible, but still unpleasant

Everyone out for their 50% off eat out to help out.Ordering is a nightmare. 1 till open for which you have to queue 10mins - almost as punishment for not using the app to order.Finally get to order. no steaks. Great. Only reason we came inEnd up ordering fish and chips.40 min wait.Fish and chips arrive looking like they’ve been cooking for 40mins. Dark brown batter, chips like charcoal. Peas were okReally can’t be bothered to complain. Some would say “it only cost you 4 quid”, but Wetherspoons are getting the full amount topped up from the government - or should I say, by all of us.Note to self: there’s a reason Wetherspoons are cheap.

Called here of an evening, only stopped for a pint or two, the welcome and the service received during these challenging times was great.

My friend stood at the bar for a full twenty minutes waiting for his order to be taken. There was one customer ahead of him. But there was no-one behind the bar to take the orders! Eventually a barista appeared and took their orders. Then when the food was served they got my order wrong. Instead of Jacket Potato with Cheese, they gave me Jacket Potato with Beans! We did not have enough time to get them to change this as our car was in a timed carpark and we had only an hour to eat! Apart from that, the hotel is very pleasantly appointed in a fabulous building right in central Minehead, although a rowdy element crowded in and took over the place when we were there. Also the toilets, although clean, could do with a freshener! Such a shame, as this place could be really good in this very historic setting!

Rounded off our holiday at Butlins Minehead with a visit to the local Spoons after a chilly walk down the seafront. Fish Friday means delicious fish chips and drinks at a bargain price plus 2 kids meals. Everything was hot and tasty . Good quick service and the pub was lovely and warm on this chilly day. Polite and helpful staff.

7 times we have been for breakfast and ALL occasions were cold. Can the person who cooks the evening meals which a piping hot, please cook breakfast as well please?

Great fish and chips. Ordered small size as didn’t want to overfill. Perfect and a good price. Crispy chips and good mushy peas. Plenty of bottles of vinegar on the side (none of those silly sachets). Used new order from your phone system - amazing. Food came quickly and service with a smile. Topped off with a very reasonable pint too.

Popped in for a drink while we were in Minehead, wow it was busy almost to the point of heaving, but we got served pretty quick and the drinks were of a good quality. We were going to eat there but with no seats around we changed our minds. Apart from that I loved the place, it had a great vibe in a fab old building.

Being locals we like to go out on Sunday to have breakfast.Always use Butterflies or Wheelhouse, but when closed we use The Wellington.Went to the Wellington 3 times in November and each time cooked breakfast is cold.Went their today 1st Dec, breakfast still cold.Wish the kitchen would turn on the coolers.

Our room was clean and tidy,bottled water,tea and coffee,hot chocolate made available.It's a weatherspoons hotel so food and drink is available from the bar from early morning till late at night and we ate there most days the food was always quick and hot with pleasant staff serving and prices were reasonable.Although our room was clean and tidy the rest of the hotel needs a bit of refurbishment,not the first time we've stopped there.On leaving the hotel on our last day the hotel has some steps on the entrance and my wife unfortunately fell ,these steps need to be made more aware to visitors apparently it's not the first time visitors have fallen on these steps.

Can't go wrong best price for a meal in Minehead. Serves until 11pm and breakfast until 8am until 11am

Watching the world go by and you get what you pay, staff turn over is high and may have to wait for service but adds to the atmosphere. Staff try to work hard but you will always find the lazy one on at the wrong time. If people don’t like it find somewhere more expensive

The food came out really quickly , but it was pretty cold , and the women who took our order didn’t put our drinks on the order also the girl who served us at the bar didn’t know what she was doing at all

There was only one person behind the bar at lunchtime which was very busy with people waiting to order meals and drinks, there was staff standing around like a lot of lemons doing nothing, in the end I walked out and went to Costa where the staff are brilliant.

This is a large coaching inn at the ‘top’ of Minehead, currently owned by Wetherspoons, offering the usual drinks and food as well as extremely reasonably priced rooms for guests. We were shocked by the large size of the family room for well under £40 per night, which had a large en-suite bathroom, sporting a large bath and shower. The family room was very comfortable with a double and a single bed and amenities such as TV, Tea and Coffee/Biscuits

what a lovely hotel wished we stayed here staff was very pleasant helpful and with a smile highly recommended

Three meals arrived in good time and all correct. Nice steak’s and a veggie burger. Amazing black pudding. Great beer all delivered to the table as we ordered through the app. We go every week!

The usual Wetherspoons value had a beer at £1.69 Pt and the food is very good here, At times there is a wait at the bar But it is a huge place. The food was great value we had Fish n Chips it was as good as the ones we paid twice the price for The outside seating is shaded in the afternoon and overlooks the square. The locals and visitors chat to each other easily great pub. Again it can get busy so there is a wait and on occasion it can take the busy staff a while to clear tables But pointed out to the bar and they do react

What can I say? The Duke was every bit as good as most of the Wetherspoons which I've visted all around the country.

Stopped here for a couple of hours just for some drinks. Typical of all Wetherspoons pubs and hotels the food is inexpensive and always tasty.I've visited several over the years.

We had a lovely meal here last night. Everything was nicely cooked and the service was exceptionally good. As usual with Wetherspoon it is very good value for money.

I have made several recent visits here, and on a couple of occasions called in for breakfast before walking along the coast path.

Just cannot complain about this place. We often eat here before off to do our 'big shop' in Minehead. Cannot fault it. And the staff are SOOOOO nice.

I understand dogs not being welcome inside but outside ?

We went into the duke of Wellington hotel because we collect Witherspoon but what a disappointment we were in for I ordered sirloin stake rare my wife ordered the chilly ,the stake tasted like cardboard it was rare but bland my wife's chilly was stodgy I had a alcohol free bud she ordered Schrader my drink was all right but my wife's was a pink gardens so we won't be ordering that meal again

It was a wet and windy day when we decided to eat at this weatherspoons as we had our beloved pooch with us and they had tables outside with umbrellas. She sat quietly under the table I must admit I had decided to ignore the no dogs policy as it is absolutely rediculous and must be losing the company a lot of money. The other annoying this is there is a smoking area at the top end of the beer garden and when you are eating the smoke blows down onto the diners at the bottom end that are eating, which is made worse when it's a windy day.

Typical weatherspoons restaurant reasonably priced and food very nice. Staff very friendly. A very big restaurant with plenty of space so you never struggle to get a table.

The food and staff were really lovely as always. Unfortunately there were two old, very rude men smoking inside not far from us. This of course ruined the atmosphere and our meal for myself and my children. The staff didn't seem to do anything. This is why I am giving them 4 starts instead of 5.

Stoped of on way to holiday drinks good price. staff freindly toilets clean , only downside had to sit at a table with dirty cups on slow in clearing tables otherwise it would of had a 5 stsr

Stayed for 1 night. The room was tiny and very hot, could only open the window a little bit. But it was clean and cheap, so accept what you pay for!

On holiday in Minehead and went to the Wetherspoons for a bit of lunch, as we have enjoyed the food at other branches.

Stayed here for a couple of nights with my family. It's friendly and comfortable pub with spacious rooms and good quality beds. There is the option to purchase a good cheap Wetherspoons breakfast downstairs if you choose, or there are various places nearby for a coffee and something lighter. Staff were helpful and the room was very clean. It was very hot when we stayed and we consequently had the window open which did mean a little noise from the pub patrons. The shower in the bathroom could do with a bit of attention, but for the price, it was perfect... possibly cheaper than a dormitory bed in a hostel at just £22 per person per night

Vist with friends, looking forward to a fish and chips lunch, only to be told when trying to place our order that they run out of cod, at 12.30pm????? Went elsewhere.

Visited here on a Thursday evening. Not been before as visitors to minehead. Very busy but served relatively quickly. Didn't have to wait long for food and great value Curry for the money.

I had the misfortune of visiting this venue with a group of guys on a sea angling trip. We arrived in Minehead on a Sunday shortly after the entire ( it would seem), party from nearby Butlins had spent the entire day here topping up on the cheap beer and shots. They ran out of beer and subsequently food apparently due to a freezer failure. Apart from the local oiks smoking door outside, drunks drinking beer at 0730 ( not kidding), this is a lovely building. Wipe your feet in the way out. Atrocious even by Wetherspoon standards. Rarely am I so animated negatively. Dump, poorly managed, has the feel that at anytime would be a public order nightmare. Avoid at all costs

We went to the Wellington to get out of the rain but found a place to where in future we would love to have a little break drinks cheap lovely big bars and restaurant good food and really pleasant and helpful staff .

We visited this pub for the first day of our holiday, my husband is in a wheelchair and we have a dog so sat outside in the sun. Dog was asleep in the wheelchair as my husband sat on a bench. Decided to have some food, dog had been seen by several members of staff, and nothing said, we ordered food, which was very nice, but spoilt by a rude assistant manager, who told us to eat our food and leave, as dogs were not allowed. Despite another couple sitting near us with two dogs, nothing was said to them. My husband was very upset and felt it was because he was disabled, will not be going here again, spoilt what should have been a great day

Have visited before and enjoyed it, however a visit on a Sunday night left a lot to be desired. We had the all day brunch and it was vile the meal had all been cooked for quite a while and just left keeping warm. The beans had a thick crust on them, the sausages were chewy. The only thing cooked freshly was the eggs. I was suspicious as the meal came out too quickly.

Called into the Duke of Wellington for a drink, While visiting Minehead, as we know that they are good value for money, so we stopped for a meal as well. The staff were very helpful and the food when it arrived was nice and hot. Lots to choose from on the menu with the option of a drink as part of the meal.

Okay, it's a Wetherspoons, but it is a very good one. Staff are friendly, helpful and attentive. We had a chicken Panini with salad, a chicken wrap with salad and 2 pints for £13.18. It arrived quickly and we had no complaints. It was very busy when we visited, but the place is huge and we had no difficulty in finding a table.

Tried the Duke of Wellington for our first evening meal when visiting Minehead. Found the staff to be helpful and polite. The restaurant was not too busy or noisy. The menu was extensive and reasonably price. The drinks very reasonable. Service was very quick and hot food.

Large Weatherspoons but noisy as Butlins weekend but staff so helpful and really work hard. Lovely roof terrace and food and online table service works well.

Good value beer and ok food. Busy Saturday afternoon but only one bar open. Small fish n chips was tasty.

Nice surroundings, enjoyed a cold lager here. Staff very welcoming. Will return next time we are in Minehead.

I did not have very long as I had a charter train to catch, but the Duke of Wellington's kitchen and bar staff came up trumps, producing me a pleasant pint of one of their guest ales and a cottage pie very quickly. Just what I needed.

Had a great family meal. Everyone really enjoyed their food. The one bar was closed when we went, but didn't have to wait long at the other, and the food arrived quickly. Overall really pleased

Previously we actually stayed here and all was ok.

Stopped here for a hearty breakfast after doing the Parkrun. Super quick service with the food, which was ok, nothing special but not bad either, obviously already cooked and being kept warm. Place was clean and staff were friendly. For the price, no complaints.

Great place to eat cheap meals and good drinks very reasonable price .could do with more bar staff during busy periods,but good all the same would highly recommend

We called in for coffee before driving home. Buy one refill as many times as you like. Lovely coffee for the price.

Good service, good value, good food, clean, spacious with plenty of choice. I like the calorie count for each meal and healthy option choices, what's not to like!

The food is good, very reasonably price. Sometimes getting a clean table can be a problem. The staff are always friendly. It's ok.
