Duke of Wellington in Wellingborough

Well, I don't know what to say here to be quote honest. We came to this establishment for a dinner reservation, it started off nicely with the Barman mark i think, promptly addressing us and seating us at the table and giving us menus and he said our waitress wpuld be with us shortly to take drinks order. We saw him tell the lady we had arrived and that's where it went wrong. The body language on this woman (didn't get her name, big blonde European maybe) was dismissive. She told another memebr of staff to "deal with this table" while she was on her mobile phone. Needless to say, very rude. The lady took our order Kiyro I think her name was, very lovely and smiling almost made us forget about the other lady, Almost. We had our drinks, starters and main and when I came to dessert, we had seen and heard enough so we asked for the bill and we left. Unfortunately we won't be coming back, the food was beautiful and Mark? and Kiyro were very welcoming but the other lady I think was their manager wasn't at all. If you do go to eat here, I'd suggest the bar area, staff are lovely there.

Lovely modern/traditional interior. Menu reads well. Wine was very good - I had a glass of Sauvignon blanc. My starter - prawn pil pil - consisted of 4 prawns of which 2 were still raw. I was offered the dish for free or a free dessert plus apologies from the chef. My main - fish and chips - was ok. Chips were tasty, fish was nice but very deep fried with thick batter. Service was attentive. Wouldn’t rush back.

Lovely pub in good setting offering a variety of drinking and eating experiences. The food was good but the service wasn’t great.

We came to the duke last minute for my sisters 18th birthday, as we had a bad experience at a local wine bar minutes before. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, they even moved chairs and tables for us, they were great with my 6 month old baby. The food was excellent! I would highly recommend their steak and ale pie, big chunks of tender steak that melted in your mouth. A great atmosphere and experience!

We were visiting my sister who we hadn't seen for a while and we wanted somewhere pleasant to have lunch together. The staff were great and the atmosphere was excellent. There was a good choice of food and what we had was really good. We would definitely go there again!

Visited this pub in December 2023 on Christmas day, the previous year was very enjoyable. Do not book here, short staffed, had to wait over 20 minutes for drinks order to be taken, waiter complained how busy he was. Our starters eventually arrived, another long weight. We had to wait an hour for our mains to arrive, my order was wrong, despite instructions emailed to them in advance, a record of our order was also on our table. Quality of the turkey was questionable. Christmas day should have been an enjoyable and relaxing meal. No offer of a refund when I complained, the Events Manager offered an apology and an investigation as to why there was such a delay. This was never relayed back to us and if I wanted to discuss further I could call her. What was there to discuss? Service was terrible

Spur of the moment booking…, good choice of food, good prices. Meals selected were very well presented, tasty and filling. The only issue was the room temperature…. Very warm…..No air con and we all started to suffer by the end of the visit. Overall we enjoyed the menu, staff are fantastic, food great….., but you need to do something about the restaurant temperature.

I had to soak up two hours....sort of layover. This visit could not have been more successful. Staff great. Food great; lamb shank huge and plenty of supporting veg. Best dessert crumble ever - serious firm fruit under a brilliant crumble. Price reasonable. Excellent stop. Would like to return.

Disappointed that they refused to take Scottish £20 note. Very angry that a small village pub has the cheek to fine you for parking in their car park. They obviously do not want to encourage you to visit this pub. Quiet visit on a Monday night cost me £100 fine!!!! Will NOT VISIT AGAIN. How can you do this to customers. Never known it in a pub before.

Was taken here by the family for father's day!! And just wow!!!! The food was outstanding (my Lamb Shank was to die for!) The service was also spot on! A hidden gem in the area shall defo be going back!

Food was OK but expensive. We got a parking ticket in the rear carpark. This came via a parking enforcement company for £100! When I called the pub, they did not want to listen, it's a discrace! Will never ever go back.

Raven and Elise are amazing, the service was impeccable and couldn’t fault the attentive service at all. Couldn’t recommend enough.

Made the mistake of booking for an evening meal when the most awful band were playing. May I suggest you put the band in a room so the rest of us dont have to hear it, it truly was so loud we couldnt even have a conversation. It was truly horrific. Sounded like a strangled cat. We cut our meal short and headed home. Would definitely come again but not when that noise is on.

I am writing to express my disappointment and frustration with the service I experienced at The Duke of Wellington during my recent visit for my birthday celebration. Despite being a regular patron, the experience was far from satisfactory. Upon arrival, my family and I were subjected to a lengthy wait before being seated in what I can only describe as an unpleasant atmosphere. To make matters worse, the language used by some staff members was inappropriate and unprofessional, particularly from a male employee. Once seated, the service was slow and inefficient, prompting me to personally address my concerns at the bar. Despite voicing my dissatisfaction, there seemed to be a lack of interest from management in resolving the issues at hand. This level of disregard for customer satisfaction is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the professionalism of your establishment. Furthermore, I am deeply disappointed by the lack of response from management following my complaint. It has been weeks since the incident, and yet, I have not received any communication regarding the outcome of my complaint or any efforts to rectify the situation. This demonstrates a complete disregard for customer feedback and reflects poorly on the management's commitment to customer service. As a result of this experience, I am compelled to share my dissatisfaction with others and advise against patronizing The Duke of Wellington. It is evident that the venue and its management are not equipped to provide a satisfactory experience for their customers, and I have no intention of returning. I urge you to take this feedback seriously and address the issues raised to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. Customer satisfaction should be a priority for any establishment, and it is disappointing to see such a lack of concern from The Duke of Wellington

It’s lovely building a great village with some friendly staff and they’re busy spending money on refurbing the rear patio area. it’ll be great in the summer however if you like real ale they only sell Greene King. I don’t support Chinese owned breweries so I’m afraid it’s a no from me. I suppose if I want some food and wine or lemonade one lunch I’ll try it.

Sunday lunch was delicious. Amazing portions. Very well trained staff. Also a take away option for our daughter and she was very pleased with her roast beef. We are back in the area in the summer so we will be back.

We celebrated a milestone birthday and the experience was seamless from start to finish. We booked the snug for 10 people. A large display was accommodated for without fuss, and our supplier (Balloonfully yours- highly recommend) was able to set up the display a few hours in advance. We were asked to preorder, so as you’d expect the food was served in a timely manner, and all correct. The food was lovely (we have come to the Duke often, and never had a bad meal), portions were decent, everyone was full. The service was brilliant 👌🏽. Our waitress checked on us periodically. The birthday cake came out with about 5 or so waitresses singing Happy Birthday to my husband ☺️ This is the 2nd time we’ve celebrated in the snug for a special occasion, with both sides of the family now, and both times we’ve not been disappointed. I actually originally booked for a different restaurant nearby as like I said we come to the Duke every so often. But the other restaurant couldn’t guarantee an area (and I wanted to put up a display), advised I could book a room for a fee. However at the Duke, all wishes accommodated for, no extra fee, no stress, great food and service, which is all you can ask for a very special celebration for a very special person.

First time visitors, this is a great place for Sunday lunch, food is very good and service is excellent, its always nice when using a restaurant for the first time to be able to leave such a positive review, definitely recommend.

Happy to leave a 5 * review here for others to enjoy this treasure in Stanwick, a chocolate box, picturesque village, greeted by a friendly chap who made my friend and I welcome immediately. Thank you.

OK, I suppose I might be biased as I can walk to this delightful pub. Having said that, the food, the presentation, the ambience, all the staff are second to none. Certainly London standards, it makes me proud that this is our village pub. Finally, great acknowledgement and praise needs to go to the chefs, the quality and presentation of ALL the food is absolutely outstanding. All the other "nice to haves" in a pub would mean nothing if the food wasn't as excellent as it is. It is a must visit venue, worth the drive or in my case, worth the walk !! Congratulations to all.

I feel I need to leave a review after reading a few recent bad reviews on here for poor service. We had a lovely meal today with family - all of us had roast dinners which were great, fab portion sizes, and pudding to follow. Service was really good, there are plenty of members of staff working who are nearly always busy. Special mention to “Mrs Hill” (she works at my daughter’s school) who was our waitress today - thanks for being attentive! Would definitely return. Not really sure why it’s my first visit here to this lovely pub when I live down the road!

We had a table at 7pm on March 11th. We had two young men servers, we all said how friendly and helpful they were, joking with our table the whole night. They were lovely! I sadly did not get their names but hopefully from the time and date you can identify who they were and pass on our thanks. The food was wonderful as normal. Starters, mains and puddings all cooked to perfection, all hot and fresh and tasted wonderful. It made for a lovely birthday meal.

Family celebrations for 10 people. The Duke of Wellington is now favourite place to eat in the Wellingborough Rushden area. Fantastic food and attentive staff for who nothing to much trouble. Thanks for a great experience.

The best roast dinner I have ever had outside of my own house! (And a vegan one at that!) wonderful food, so tasty and crafted with attention to detail, fresh and colourful. Staff were super friendly too, Christian was lovely. Amazing experience :) plus fab vegan options which is appreciated

Was treated to a meal with friends yesterday. I had travelled from london and we dont get to see each other often so it was a big deal. We had seen good reviews so decided to try here for a sunday roast, drinks and a nice catch up... big mistake! The service was awful, it was busy but some of the attitudes of the staff was awful, we heard how they spoke to other customers too. We were very abruptly told we "wouldn't recommend dessert as the kitchen was so busy and it would be a long wait" .. my friend actually cried as this was supposed to be a special treat for us. Sadly we felt an inconvenience for the staff and what should have been a great catch up was ruined by terribly unhappy and snappy staff. On a positive, the food we had was amazing just let down by rude staff that made us feel like we didnt matter

What started as a lovely meal ,for a 60th birthday ended as a very marred experience, we were seated for 1pm,we were leisurely given the menus and and not rushed the staff brought a cake to the table and sang Happy Birthday.Dessert menus were given out at 2.50pm and we were informed that we needed to vacate the table at 3pm for other customers ,please tell me how we are supposed to decide, eat dessert and drink coffee in 10 mins,2 members of staff came and spoke to us,we then asked for the manager ,who duly told us of the 2 hr time frame, this was not explained when taking the booking by phone,we expressed our disappointment of our treatment, so it was decided we could have an extra 30mins,but we felt we had to rush our desserts then we was told we could have coffee to many conversations going backwards and forwards, we just wantedthe bill, even though the manager took the desserts and wine off the bill as a gesture .Moving forward the time frame need to be reminded to the customer when greeted for seating.

Absolutely fantastic place and service. Can not fault anything. We hired the barn for our dad’s wake after his funeral. The staff in the actual pub helping us book and organise beforehand and the girl behind the bar on the day were so helpful, friendly and efficient. The room was fantastic, all laid out ready for us and the buffet food was great. Plenty of it and loads of choice. Nothing was too much trouble. Four of us had between us: two steaks absolutely cooked to perfection, one belly of pork which was absolutely mouthwatering and the salmon that I'm told was superb. Starters were delicious too and it was all fairly reasonable. They obviously have an excellent chef who takes pride in his work and it must be an ethos throughout as the waiting staff were polite, very professional and extremely friendly. Visited as a large party of 16 and it was our first time at the Duke - criminal really as we only live in the next village and after last night will definitely return. service was good , food excellent , portion sizes are not big but perfect if you have a starter and dessert. All reasonably priced for the quality of food - the menu selection isn’t massive but a good selection to suit everyone with specials available. 5 star as couldn’t fault anything and looking forward to a return .

Last night had an exceptional meal at The Duke. Four of us in our party each selecting different meals. We all raved about our own dishes which were generous portions beautifully presented. Service was warm and attentive. Prices up a touch but having just spent 21 nights walking the SW Coastal Path eating out, they seemed reasonable (and I think all hospitality businesses are paying their staff a little more to retain the gems.)

Really nice pub in rural Northamptonshire. Our food was lovely (see pictures), the service received was also excellent and we were cared for very well. The only thing I would say is remember to get cash out (for a tip) beforehand as there are no cash points in the village (obviously not the pubs fault)

On Sunday 27th June 21. We went for a family meal out. The table had been booked for a month. We’re advised of my allergies. Yet the chef couldn’t tell me if it was safe for me to eat garlic bread.My main course which we paid £15 was shocking. I ordered roast pork. It turned up with pork, runner beans and mangetout and some kind of potatoes.(salad ones, tasted like he microwaved them).The pudding arrived and wasn’t anything I expected all you could taste was the gold spray.The next day my mouth felt like it was swimming in grease. Also stomach ache for two days.No one ate the Yorkshire puddings as they tasted like cardboard. .Definitely not recommended

My wife and I had the Sunday roast, I chose the Pork and the wife chose Beef. On arrival my wife found the beef rather tough, this was quickly put right and changed for pork. The pork was excellent as were the vegetables and the portions large, more than we could manage, with a couple of glasses of wine the meal was excellent. The bill was very reasonable.

We had a post lockdown family lunch. Between us we had pork , lamb , chicken and fish and chips . All were amazing and pubs Covid precautions were good . The pub has now got a lovely area at the back that has been extended to provide more outside seating . Highly recommend.

Been using the Duke for years now and actually had our wedding reception in the barn. We visited today for lunch and was so disappointed. The food here used to be exceptional. Great quality and good produce. The last couple of times we’ve been here the food quality is poor in comparison.I had lamb today with bubble and squeak with a red wine jus. The lamb was exceptionally tough, the bubble and squeak was tasteless and so dry I couldn’t actually eat it (this is obviously pre cooked and warmed) The jus was tasteless. My wife had chicken which again, she didn’t eat as it was so dry. It’s such a shame as it’s a lovely pub but it is just that now...a pub which does pub grub which should just concentrate on simple food but try to get it better.

Unfortunately trip advisor do not give you a ‘good’ option. The experience here wasn’t ‘very good’ nor was it average. It was good. Having said the above and whilst the food was indeed good and that’s what really matters, be aware of their misinterpretation of Tier 2 rules. You cannot order a drink before you order food and you cannot have one afterwards. I think they’ve taken the legislation verbatim rather than understanding the point of it. I would even suggest that it’s financially motivated which I’m afraid also means I would not return once the restrictions finally come to an end. It is a shame.

Food excellent; the Lebanese BBQ chicken perfectly cooked, lovely paprika chips and coleslaw. The roast beef was a huge portion with several vegetables and a large Yorkshire pud. Table service only because of lockdown. Limited choice of beer and wine, probably also due to lockdown, but, enough to make a good choice, including a brilliant Barolo. Will definitely be back!

Went here pre lockdown. Food was very good and service was quick. The staff took great care of us and will definitely back post lockdown. Keep up with the terrific work.

Not been before, last meal with a group of friends before lockdown! Was lovely, the food ordering took quite a while, we waited a good 30/40 minutes to have our order taken but the food was amazing. The presentation was superb. Was gutted they had no white chocolate cheesecake, was looking to forward it all day, but the sticky toffee pudding was just as lovely. Understandably a few items on the menu were sold out, I seemed to pick everything that wasn't available, but it will only mean I need to return and have the pork belly and cheesecake on my next visit! Staff extremely friendly and polite. Fabulous visit.

Food was amazing, restaurant was packed out so must be a very popular place! Was our first time here and would definitely go back! Just a shame they wouldn’t send me home with free white choc and ginger cheesecake as it was incredible and the best I’ve ever had!
