Love the makeover and comfy new seats. Had a very good beef Sunday Roast (plenty of tender beef and tasty veg for the £22 price tag) in civilised fashion - while watching Arsenal beat Spurs - what more could you ask for? Like the addition of the dog beds too :) PS - we asked for a little extra gravy for the massive yorkshires - well worth it

Always liked this pub, but this visit was a little off , unfortunately. Clearly understaffed and relatively busy, the two seemed to struggle and the stress was visible. That aside, they did the best they could and the food and drink more than made up for it. Another downside was the air con being off and it was too warm to be comfortable. Apparently it was broken, both units, which seemed unlikely...

Visited with sister and daughter. After reading previous reviews we were disappointed that 2 of the Sunday roasts were sold out, our booking was at 2pm not particularly late for a Sunday! Staff were pleasant enough and the food we had was good but disappointed we could not have the roasts we went for

We went to Duchess to try their Sunday roast and we were definitely not disappointed. I ordered the trio of roast which is a great choice if you wanna have a bit of everything and it was delicious. The portion was a proper big one like from your grandma. All of the meat was perfectly cooked and the trimmings with gravy were delicious as well. My boyfriend went for the pork roast and said it was lovely as well. We even went for dessert. We’ve got sticky toffee pudding to share and that was a perfect end to our food experience. They have great selection of draft beers so we got couple of pints with our meal. Atmosphere is very cosy as it is quite a small nice pub and service was top level. Our server was friendly and very attentive. We had a lovely experience and will be coming back soon!

Had a table booked for the England game on Saturday , pub was full , and i tell u what an atmosphere and what the end of the game ! Members of staff where very attentive and helpful , had some buffalo wings and chicken burger as a snack during the game , was finger licking to be honest. Service fast and prompt. Thank you all staff for making us feel like we watching game at home ! We will be back definitely!

Had a family lunch over there , all of us had starters and mains , service was fast and attentive by members of staff , we had some nibbles for a starters ( scotch eggs, calamary, humus ) was sooooo tasty .For main we went for a classics ( fish n chips , bangers and mash , pie ) massive selection of ales beers lagers , and prices are reasonable. Thank you very much , we will definitely coming back for another family lunch and much more :)

This is my third time coming here for lunch since I had my baby and I keep coming as it’s a lovely place. Food is excellent and staff could not be more accommodating!

We always go to the Duchess before or after games at the Emirates. On Saturday 17.2 we had a table booked after the game, we were quite a bit earlier than the table was booked for but the staff made sure we could sit down early. Staff are always brilliant and attentive. We’ll be back!

Great atmosphere and excellent service from the guys. Visited on an arsenal home game and the experience is unbelievable! Roast chicken is a must try. Definitely visiting again.

We went for Christmas lunch - the food was nice and plentiful.The pub was not overcrowded and had a pleasant atmosphere.

The ambiance exudes classic elegance, and the service is top-notch. Delighted with the menu variety, though a tad more vegetarian options would enhance the dining choices.

TERRIFIC PUB WITH GREAT SERVICE. Was here with my son and wife for a pre-christmas visit. Had a few pints and some terrific appetizers.This a real pub...and the one I basically used as a comparison to all the others we went to.

…with an excellent selection of beer, lots of places to sit and a decent atmosphere. Not too far from H&I station plus much nicer than some of the pubs closer in.

Booked our Christmas lunch here for 11 of us. The online booking and handling of queries was excellent leading up to the day. The service and food on the day was excellent and they were very accommodating of specific requirements around dietary requirements and splitting out the bill. The sustainable crackers were a nice touch, especially being an environmental organisation. Overall we were very pleased with everything and would highly recommend.

Was there for pre match dinner. Great food great service, great atmosphere the only reason why not 5 star was they never allowed standing in the restaurant area of the pub on match days and it distracted from the Great Gastro pub it is

Really nice little spot. Had a lovely Sunday Roast while the football was on. The staff were very attentive and friendly and customer service was great. I also really enjoyed the Roast and it was actually one of the most enjoyable vegetarian meals I’ve had in London! Will definitely be coming back.

We booked a table ahead of going to an Arsenal game. It was a Sunday with a choice of roasts or other options including vegan. The staff were really helpful and courteous, food was good and choice of drinks. We’ve booked again, enough said.

Great for a pre-match lunch prior to the Arsenal game at the Emirates, but noticing a steady decline - the staff are wonderful, friendly and as attentive as they can be, but there are not enough of them - we waited 40 minutes just to order - when I approached the lady in charge of the dining are she explained that she was covering the entire section (easily 50 covers) - thats ridiculous Youngs!!! In the end we used the App to order to table, but it wasn't up to date and didn't have the Sunday roast as an option (which we really wanted) - this experience won't stop us coming as its part of our pre-match ritual and we enjoy it very much, please just sort out the staffing levels...!!!

This place is great for a casual night out. As well as a good range of beers, they also served some interesting cocktails, as well as coffees.

Lovely, cosy furnished pub with attentive and professional bar stuff, clean. Music not too loud and adding to that vibe.

We booked for Christmas lunch here for 5 people as usually it is a nice pub with good food. We sat down at 12.45pm and were served our desert at 5.10pm. We were told, only part way through the endless wait, that two chefs hadn't turned up and there were delays. We were clearing our own table some of the time and when the food finally came, it was nearly cold, but we daren't send the main back as we had already waited 2 1/2 hours for it! The waiter was very apologetic and obviously it wasn't his fault but there didn't seem to be anyone in charge to explain what was going on or how much longer we would have to wait - the poor waiter just didn't know. It ruined Xmas day to be honest - there was just so much wrong, I could go on and on.

My daughter and I wanted to go out for Christmas dinner this year but since we decided last minute, we thought how lucky we were to find this pub with bookings still available. I came across it on google and after reading the reviews on how good their roast was, I went ahead. She wanted to look elsewhere but I went ahead with this since it was fairly near to home and I was getting panicked that they would be fully booked. I should have listened to her ! We arrived on time, to what seemed quite a busy atmosphere. We were kept waiting for a table only for a few minutes, but when we sat down, the table was not laid ready, still dirty Unfortunately we were not told, and should have at this point, that they were understaffed due to staff not turning up, and they were very delayed in serving. The beginning of the 4 course menu was a glass of cuvee with tasters. The cuvee we got, only one taster was brought over but after the starters which should have been the other way round. Three hours of being there, we finally got our mains. I ordered the turkey with trimmings, my daughter beef steak We had the same vegetables which were hard and cold. The meals were presented nice but lacked in flavour. Considering it was so slow, we stayed quite calm, unlike other people who walked out. We had drank so much alcohol just to pass the time. But We had enough after 4 hours that in the end we took our dessert with us in the taxi home. We gave the two waiting staff a generous tip as they really tried hard to keep calm and serve everyone as best they could. Management was of no help at all, did not make any attempt to apologise or offer compensation Was looking forward to this so much, left very hungry and out of pocket !

We really enjoyed this pub, it’s got a great atmosphere and good selection of beers, and all the staff (especially Bart) were very accommodating - loved it and definitely recommend!

We visited for Sunday lunch and really enjoyed it. The last time we visited we were somewhat underwhelmed but this time it was much better. I found the ordering on the app a little bit of a faf and not as good as some other chains..

So we ended up here by complete accident when the previous place we’d booked had oven issues on a Sunday, which was rather unfortunate. Not knowing what to expect, we were accommodated as a group of 6 at fairly short notice. It was such a friendly and welcoming establishment. Very homely/comfy feel. Real cross section of patrons and a few lovely dogs thrown in for good measure. However, the real highlight was the food. It was delicious. Very reasonably priced and the beef, pork and chicken options were wolfed down. We would definitely return. A real find and a complete gem!

Myself and my family visited the duchess. We had a amazing food and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. I had the steak and chips which I enjoyed. My mother had the plant burger which she said she enjoyed. Will definitely be back 👍

I have just had a perfect lunch with some friends here. We all had roast dinners and all devoured them entirely. The food is tasty and the ambience is friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to others!

Visited here with friends before a football match at Emirates Stadium. They allow away supporters in the pub ,unlike many others within the vicinity of the Stadium.

Tuvimos un gran almuerzo en la duquesa con excelente servicio. Habíamos tenido una mala experiencia anteriormente y Seb, el gerente, nos había ofrecido una comida de cortesía para compensar, lo cual no era de esperar pero fue apreciado. Fuimos bien atendidos por un personal amable, y la comida era buena con porciones generosas. Elección de cerveza también buena. Estaba muy ocupado antes del fútbol, pero el servicio fue rápido y había un ambiente agradable.

Después de venir un par de veces en el pasado y de tener un asado increíble, fuimos hoy y digamos que debe ser un nuevo chef. Después de 20 minutos de espera, la comida se sirvió fría, ni siquiera tibia. Hablé con el gerente y nuestra comida fue sacada rápidamente para volver 5 minutos más tarde después de haber sido recalentada en un microondas que es peligroso para el pollo y el cerdo, especialmente cuando ni siquiera se recalentó correctamente. Decidimos irnos y nunca volveríamos, lo cual es una pena, ya que solía ser una de las mejores cenas asadas en Islington. Realmente necesitan pensar en un cambio de chef.

Very dissatisfied with the claim that this is the best Sunday Roast in H-I as advertised outside. The beef and lamb were dry (several tables asking for more gravy) and the portion sizes were extremely small. Most of us went out after in the search of food and we saw other patrons asking for more potatoes to compensate for the lack of meat. Very disappointing.

Great service, great food, great staff,quick for the food to arrive couldn't ask for more will definitely be back. Have a fussy mother and even she enjoyed the roast so 5 stars on all aspects of my experience.

We were a group of cancer research scientists getting together to celebrate the new year on New Years Eve. Seb and his team were so attentive and made sure that everyone was having a good time. The staff here were exceptional, as someone who works in hospitality my experience here was fantastic great food and drinks!

Just moved nearby and so happy this is now my local. Food and service are both great. The atmosphere is modern and clean, but still inviting and super comfy. It’s everything you could ever want jn a pub. While you’re there, try the veggie pie with leeks.

This pub is picturesque and cozy! The Sunday roast beats all the trendy spots without the wait and double the charm. The staff is so sweet and polite, plus plenty of beers, wines, and cocktails to please any taste.

This place has had a really nice change with updated decor and new food. It is a real gastropub. Great food and ambiance. But I love the people who work here and the folks that visit. It is such a welcome part of our neighbourhood

Went for work Christmas party. From the first second the staff were very attentive and welcoming. We were seated promptly and the Christmas menu was cooked to perfection. The service was very good. I’d definitely recommend going here!

Been to this pub several times before Arsenal games and never eaten until last night.

We had a bad experience at the Duchess when I went for lunch with my daughter and her friend/dad before the football. We had to wait 55 minutes for our food, and when we asked several times (politely) for an update on our order, the waitress just said 'Oh we're busy'. No apology, no warning there would be a wait, no offer to chase up the kitchen...

Many thanks to Seb and his team for making the Wedding Reception go so well, with great service for both the meal and at the bar, and for making my daughters day so special. Deserves all its success, just what a modern posh pub should be.

Great table service whilst watching a crucial match. Seb looked after us and made sure the food and drinks came quickly and that payment for each separate bill ran as smoothly as possible. Not an easy feat when our party was 20 strong! A great pub with a lot of space and plenty of seating which is rare when watching a big game!

Just paid our third visit in less than a week, my wife opted for the fish pie twice and the lemon thyme roast chicken, enjoying both very much, fish pie full of big chunks of fish and prawns and very well cooked moist chicken, I myself opting for the ox cheek pie which was delicious, the burgers are amongst the best I’ve had,very enjoyable food. Will be back soon,the Sunday roast is also very good.Friendly sevice and very relaxing atmosphere.

Our book group regularly meet in the Duchess and tonight was more than happy with the food and the service. Good menu and helpful staff.

Ruined what was an otherwise perfect family visit. Cold roast dinner served and when I returned it and asked for a fresh hot dinner only to be given back the same plate of food blitzed by a microwave (having waited 20+ minutes mind) none of the staff seemed to grasp that this was unacceptable!

In line with quite a few reviews, this was a very disappointing experience. It seems to be a running them that this venue serve cold food, almost as if straight from the fridge. We returned a plate of food, after having tried a bit of it, as it was cold. We asked for a fresh hot plate of food - instead we received the same plate back 20 minutes letter still cold.

Recientemente renovado a un nivel muy alto y me encanta. Muy buen ambiente para pasar el tiempo y el personal es excelente. El menú es sensacional, especialmente para los carnívoros adecuados como yo, podría elegir literalmente cuatro o cinco cosas, por lo que vuelvo todo el tiempo. Se merece todo su éxito, justo lo que debería ser un pub moderno y elegante.

It’s hard to know where to start with this disastrous meal...

Visited for the relaunch, food was very good. Deep fried oysters in a crunchy batter was unusual and very nice. Steak was well cooked and had great flavour.

As a regular, I was delighted to take them up on the offer of a free lunch, to celebrate their refurbishment. Good food, good atmosphere and good staff.

Comida casera en lo mejor. Siempre tres especiales también. Acogedor y amable: los camareros de esta noche, Erica y Seb, fueron geniales. La selección de comida, vino y cerveza siempre da bebidas realmente encantadoras. No puedo decir lo suficiente. Es un verdadero local que es muy acogedor para los forasteros. Muy frío.
